Unrealistic contract demands

If you wait and offer them a new contract at a different time, you can find they want a lot less.

The best scenario is to wait for them to trigger the news event where they are complaining about their salary, as they will want a lot less at that point. I've had players on 50K who want 425K when I offer them a contract out of the blue, but when they come to me a month later asking for a new contract, they only want 80K. 

Of course if their contract is running out and someone could sign them, then waiting might not be an option, but if you have time, just wait...
