Suffering from Craig Williams syndrome; does this sod of a chairman ever stop being so ridiculous with finances? Finished 9th in my first season as Palace and I want to take us up to the next level but this guy is unwilling to put any finances into the club...

Started a Palace save recently, still in the first season and i am challenging for the automatic promotion places :).

Ive brought in Fabio and Gibson from Man Utd, Tafer from Lyon, Javier Portillo, Barazite from arsenal, Malaury Martin from some french team, all on loan:D

I sold a couple of players, the young lad Djhali (sp) and one other.

Currently 7 games unbeaten, winning 6.

The takeover stuff is getting annoying, constantly on and off for months now!

I pray that you don't get Williams taking you over, he even lowered the wages per week I was allowed for my second season...what a sod. Barazite and De Laet were beautiful loanees for me. Barazite was a little slow to get going, but by the end he was insane. Sears also ended the campaign like dynamite, bagging two hat-tricks in consecutive matches on one occasion! One good striker signing I made was Leigh Griffiths (from Dundee I think), got him for an initial 950k up front, and the fans love 'im.

Look on the bright side, at least under Craig Williams we're not in administration...

Inspired by Crystal Palace's FA Cup run and the fact that they are my local-est side I have decided to possibly give them a go on FM.

I have a few questions though?

I have heard they do not own their own stadium, is this true? and if not do they still earn the amount any other club would from it?

What is more, what is the support like on the game? Would they be likely to get an expanded/new stadium? And would it get filled?

I'm playing as Palace so I can try help. Although I believe it's the case irl that Palace do not own the stadium they don't pay any rent in FM it seems to me.

Also I'm in 2013 about mid-table in the premiership and we are getting sold out most of the time, so it would seem there's potential for a new stadium if you are successful.

Is it difficult to try and build a quality premiership squad with such a small stadium?

Well I got promoted first season using loanees and a few transfers and the squad already has a fair few good prospects. Alot of players become premiership standard because of the championship football they get first season I found aswell e.g Craig Cathcart, Gael Kakuta, Vladimir Weiss etc. and the transfer budget is very good after promotion so I'd say not really.

Welcome to the 2010 thread of

Crystal Palace F.C.

Crystal Palace Football Club is an English professional football club based in South Norwood, London. The team plays its home matches at Selhurst Park, where it has been based since 1924. The club is competing in the second tier of English Football, The Championship for the 2009-2010 season.

A Brief History of Crystal Palace F.C.

Crystal Palace was formed in 1905 by workers at The Crystal Palace. They did not reach the top division of English Football until 1969-70, and did not reach a major final until 1990. Relegated from the top division in 1973 and once again in the following season leaving the club playing in the third tier of English football for the 1974-75 season, before being promoted back to the top level by 1979-80.

Crystal Palace's most recent successful period began in 1988-89, when the club finished third in the Second Division and were promoted to the First Division. Reaching the 1990 FA Cup Final only to lose the replay against Manchester United and finishing 3rd in the First Division in 1990-91. Palace were a founding member of the FA Premier League (1992-93) but were relegated that season. Since then Palace have been relegated from and promoted to the FA Premier League on a number of occasions, their most recent relegation from the top flight was in the 2004-05 season. This is all despite the club being almost bankrupt in July 2000.

Squad Report

Goalkeepers

As a team overall Crystal Palace need a lot of improvement but luckily GKs are an area which isn't needed to be rectified immediately. Your number one should be Speroni, he is a decent shot-stopper and will be good at Championship level for a few more years with Flahavan as a decent back up. For the long term you'll need a better back up than Flahavan and a younger keeper to replace Speroni as you have no young keepers in the reserves.

Best for Position - Julian Speroni

Youth Prospect - N/A

Ideal Targets - Henk Timmer (Free), Asmir Begovic (Loan), German Lux (Loan)

Rightbacks

You start with 3 right backs but most likely Brighton come in with an offer for Danny Butterfield and your chairman accepts it so you'll be down to 2.

Nathanial Clyne has good enough stats for back-up and with him only being 18 he's deffinatey one for the future, Johannes Ertl is good enough to keep his place but id recommend looking around for a better RB and loaning Clyne out.

If you do manage to keep Butterfield then Id focus on improving other areas of the team.

Best for Position -Johannes Ertl

Youth Prospect - Nathanial Clyne

Ideal Targets - Lauren (Free), Rafael (Loan), Javan Vidal (Loan)

Leftbacks

Your only leftback is Lee Hills who is a good prospect but not really at championship level so an older more experienced leftback would be welcome to go straight into the first team and tutor Hills. Clint Hill can fill in when needed but signing another quality LB is a priority.

Best for Position - Lee Hills

Youth Prospect - Lee Hills

Ideal Targets - David Castedo (Free), Jeremy Helan (Loan), Michael Ball (Free)

Centrebacks

You have a decent choice of centrebacks at the club with Clint Hill, Claude Davis and Jose Fonte being great players. Also Fonte is deffinately your best player at the club and you should hold on to him. Matt Lawerence and Paddy McCarthy are ok for back-up but it would be best too sell them both and bring one solid defender to make your back line more solid.

Best for Position - Jose Fonte

Youth Prospect - N/A

Ideal Targets - Sol Campbell (Free), Glauber (Free), Jorge Andrae (Free)

Right Midfield

Your first signing at Palace should be a Right midfielder in my opinion. The closest you have to a natural RM is 18 year old Kieran Djilali who looks a good prospect but is no where near the standard required. Sean Scannell, Darren Ambrose, Victor Moses and Neil Danns can all fill in but a RM who has pace and can cross is a necessity.

Best for Position - Victor Moses

Youth Prospect - Kieran Djilali

Ideal Targets - Vladimir Weiss (Loan), Rohan Ricketts (Free)

Left Midfield

Ditto^^Snap^^. Left midfield is as in dire need of a solid player as right midfield, a creative flairy winger wouldnt go a miss either here as you only natural LM is Ryan Smith who while being fairly fast is just that, fast his other stats arent up to scratch and he doesn't look like he'll improve at all. So sell him and find 2 decent LMs, or more realisticly as you have no funds and a tight wage bill sign one and use Darren Ambrose, Victor Moses or Kieran Djilali as back-up.

Best for Position - Darren Ambrose

Youth Prospect - Victor Moses

Ideal Targets - Kieran Gibbs (Loan), Daniel Jones (Loan), Daniel Sturridge (Loan)

Centre Midfield

For Defensive midfield you have the experienced Shaun Derry who's decent enough for the first season and Alassane N'Diaye as a promising back-up. Neil Danns, Darren Ambrose and Nick Carle make up the rest of your midfield with Danns as your only natural MC with Ambrose and Carle being AMCs. Them 5 should be a decent selection of Midfielders though you may want to have a look for a loanee or free agent to fill a specialised role as none of the latters stats really stand out.

Best for Position - Neil Danns

Youth Prospect - Alassane N'Diaye

Ideal Targets - Mark Randall (Loan), Dietmar Hamanm (Free), John Bostock (Loan), Nacer Barazite (Loan), Jack Wilshire (Loan)

Strikers

You have a decent selection of strikers in your squad with Fred Sears on loan from West Ham, fan favourite Victor Moses, Alan Lee, Sean Scannel and Stern Jon. All of them are decent championship strikers but none are really prolific or are match winners. Id advise pairing Lee and Sears together as their playing styles compliment each other. Try to get a small pacier forward if you are unhappy with the current choices.

Scannel and Moses aren't really first team standard yet and in my game I loaned Scannel out and use Moses sparingly.

Best for Position - Fred Sears

Youth Prospect - Victor Moses, Sean Scannel

Ideal Targets - Henri Camara (Free), Mark Viduka (Free), Federico Macheda (Loan)

Suggested Tactics

I went for a simple 4-4-2 and its working well so far :D

Ignore what players are there as yours will potentially be different.

Formation 4-4-2

Team Instructions

4032901666_ed1d222754.jpg

Player Roles

Goalkeeper

Goalkeeper/Defend

Pretty simple here, all i want is for my keeper to be just that. Save shots then distribute the ball out.

I have his go Defender Collect to either fullback to try and retain posession.

Fullbacks

Fullback/Support

I play my wide midfielders further up almost so its important to get the fullbacks involved but still retain a defensive role at heart.

Defender Centre 1

Central Defender/Defend

Like Gk not really specialised much just wanting some solid defending.

Defender Centre 2

Central Defender/Cover

Use a fast, agressive defender here to drop back a little from your other defender to stop anyone who happens to break through.

Left & Right Midfielder

Winger/Attack.

Sometime depending on who I choose to play I'll have RM as Winger/Support.

Since my fullbacks play further up I push my wingers further up to link up balls the the attack. They get most of the assists and some goals.

Centre Midfield 1

Ball winning Midfielder/Support

I use my best DMC here as his stats fill the criteria needed. He wins most balls trying to get through the midfield holds off attackers then passes to his more creative team mates.

Centre Midfield 2

Advanced Playmaker/Support

Here to compliment my ball winning midfielder is his more creative pal, needing similar stats but with more focus on creativity. He usually gets balls from my other CM and plays them onto the Strikers or Wingers.

Striker 1

Poacher/Attack

A pacey player with good finishing and off the ball, just need to get in the right place at the right time and bang in the goals from the chances created by the players behind him or his strike partner.

I sometimes play Trequartista/Attack here with one player who excels at it.

Striker 2

Advanced Forward/Attack

Have my best all round forward here to play balls onto the poacher, link up between the attack and midfield or as mine mostly does score fantastic goals that he creates himself.

Well I'm finished, thanks for reading and good luck with managing Crystal Palace, please share your progress and follow mine.

Swalton - I assume you are the researcher for the palace? if so are you planning to upgrade/downgrade players for the 10.3 patch? If so, who are they? Thanks

I normally play as Liverpool on fm10. I thought I would like a challenge so I choose crystal palace. 1st season won the championship using loaned players to get me through the season. 1st season in the premiership was ok finished 11th was given 25 million for transfers and signed squad players to get me through. Didn't have the resources for high wages could have signed some world class players cheap but couldn't afford the wages. Signed michael Owen in the Jan transfer window for £900k which was a good signing with yanis tafer from Lyon on loan and David ngog as back up. So looking forward to my 2nd season in the premiership and push on for European football

Just finished my 2nd season with Palace, my first full one.

Started on an International Reputation.

Started off about Xmas '09 as Warnock got the sack due to them being 22nd in the Champo.

After some wheeling and dealing in the loan market bought in these lads.

2uylxqg.png

Finished the season a reasonable 15th.

The 2nd season, 10/11, started off by clearing all the dead wood out, due to expiring contracts. This in turn freed my wage budget up wholesomely, coupled with a new owner, no administration and a board expectation of mid table found myself with a healthy wage budget. But, a tiny transfer one.

So once again, got a wheelin' and a dealin' in the Free transfers and loans as shown here.

21ki8o2.png

Bojinov and Mifsud being my new strikers, partnering Scannell in a 4-1-2-3 formation. With clinical results. Sadly though, lost my only big youngster Jean Mwanza to United. He really is a top young Somalian Keeper, whom I will be keeping tabs on. Anyhow, with my new look team, taking the average age from 22 to 25 but still plenty of young talent in Scannell, Crncic, Clyne and my Loanees with conquered the Championship, spending the season at the top or around it. Final result was

Pld 46 Won 28 Drwn 13 Lst 5 For 86 Agst 39 Pts 97.

So all in all not bad.

Here is my champion squad, looking to to Premiership with a Relegation Dog fight immenent.
