Worcester City Researcher
OK - this may come down as a "stream of conciousness" opening post - but I cba at this time of the morning to edit to any great extent. We've seen now that we can create new leagues, change rules in existing ones etc. - but I'd like to advice and possible help with formulating a plan to accomplish the following. I'd like to recreate the East German League system, and with it - the National Team. Basically - split Germany back into two seperate nations - as it was pre-1989. I'd like to have the League function as it did back then (but without the massive Government interference as I don't think there's an option for that in the editor ) - including with European qualifiers - and have the National Team entering the qualifiers for the European Championships and World Cup. So - initial thoughts are above - I'd need some input and advice on dividing the two - mainly connected with the Cities, Clubs and making sure players are reassigned with the correct nationality based on birthplace. The Amazing Dale Watkins
Yeah, it's an interesting project that I've thought about, too. It's easy enough to create the league and find the historical information on which clubs should be in there, but the main difficulty should be letting the clubs enter continental competitions. Some of the other idiosyncrasies are also not implementable, like no transfers across the iron curtain.
The Amazing Dale Watkins
You'd also have to rename a bunch of clubs or recreate them, and get rid of the new ones.
Worcester City Researcher
I was thinking of swapping out the Co-Efficients with a middle ranked nation - basically shifting all those below down a place - which should initially give me the Euro Qualifiers. As for making sure that players are the correct nationality - will that be automatically be set if I change the nation of the relevant city? iirc I noted that both East and West Germany exist in the database as extinct nations - what would I need to do to reactivate them to be used in the game instead of the modern Germany? I might make a start on this in a short while... You'd also have to rename a bunch of clubs or recreate them, and get rid of the new ones. Can you point me in the direction of which ones I should look at - and why?
sakpase
I have tried this already for Basque and it took many hours, from what I learn is that their is no quick way to change players nationality en masse. for East Germany with having more city and more teams it will be the much more difficult. I have made a list of East German football teams as I plan on doing myself when I have time. I can share this with you if you wish?
Worcester City Researcher
Certainly - if it's going to be fairly straightforward to accomplish then I'll press on. Will come back to you if we do proceed
DanGLiverpool
Is it not possible to create a macro or the like to change nationalities en masse?
El_Ricardo
Unfortunately not. That is the worst thing with this editor. It can take an hour to do such edits (I can become very tedious!), when I'm sure it can easily be done in a few clicks.
spartans5
It is possible to set a macro to do such a thing, in fact I have used a macro to do edits and it works well if you do it correctly
Cadijk van Kaarhandel
This might be useful, the tables and results from the last East German season http://rsssf.com/tablesd/ddr90.html There’s also a load of notes on the clubs at the bottom. And there’s this page which lists all the many name changes throughout each club’s history. Might be useful for determining which city they played in. http://www.rsssf.com/tablesd/ddr-names.html

DanGLiverpool
Care to share the method? Yeah, that would imo be a very useful thing to have in terms of editing large amounts of data quickly i.e. turn all players from one nation into that of another nation. The Amazing Dale Watkins
I don't see how a macro could be used for changing nationalities of players en masse. The XML only holds changes to the db; you can't get the original IDs to replace. In order to make the change, the XML needs to have a record for each player to be replaced. Unless you have a list of player IDs ready, I don't see how this could be achieved.
paokkerkir
Have done this in FM2008. But didn't care enough to make nationality changes for all players; I just replaced Austria and made the national team fake. Very weak league it figured out to be. Was about to do it again, but then I found this thread. Suppose I can wait

spartans5
When you search for players, be sure to sort them by nation after they have been filtered and set the macro to click on the top player and change their nation and when it is sorted their name will no longer be at the top and it will continue to do that until the nation you are changing them to gets to the top, at which point you re-click on the nation and it will sort from Z-A (or A-Z depending on which you did first). And repeat, when that batch of a thousand players is done, start the process again until all the players you want to change have been changed. slappy_bag
Auto Hotkey would be a great program for a macro like this. Just google it. It has a recorder if your not able to code the macro (useful for coordiante programming).
paokkerkir
Yeah, but would this be effective? This will change all German players to east german. If you sort them by city of birth it can be done though, but much less players would show up at a time.
The Amazing Dale Watkins
so, did you run out of steam yet or is this moving forward? The regular German League update is about done, so now I'd have a little time to help you out on this.
Heartwork
If you bring back East Germany you need to find a way to fix all the games in BFC Dynamo's way, so they always win everything.
