Jupiler league first division, game 1

Brussels vs. Club Brugge

Last meeting: -

Venue: Stade Edmond Machtens: 11991

Weather: Wet, 29°C

Brussels is one of the two newly promoted teams and they are going to do anything they can to stay up and you could see this clearly today as after seven minutes Culek opened the score for them. Brugge were schocked and started to push forward. Eight minutes after the opening goal Kallstrom crossed a cornerkick into the area, where Guayre picked it up before he scored. Brugge kept dominating but when the first whistle came the game was still level. In the second half there were four dull minutes as Kallstrom scored to give his team the lead, which lasted three minutes as Dekelver scored the equaliser. A minute after that goal Guayre scored his second of the evening to restore their one goal lead. Seven minutes before the end of the game Ernst was sent off as he pulled down the last man just before he entered the area. Brugge took profit of this as Aghahowa scored the fourth and final goal two minutes from the end of the game.

Friday 12th August:

Owen Hargreaves moved today from German side FC Bayern to Serie A champions Inter Milan for €17,75M.

Top goalscorer: Guayre (3) - Asubonteng (3)

Weather: Dry, 22°C

Both teams were looking to continue their good form but both of them knew that there could only be one of them who did this. Brugge started furious at the game and had a lot of chances early on. In the 16th minute Van Zundert played a long ball towards Asubonteng, who picked it up and fired it past Bizzarri. GBA took an undeserved lead. After that they started to defend in numbers and Brugge controlled once again. But neither in the first half or even in the second half they could score, despite having a great amount of chances. Club Brugge must feel discouraged by this as everything they tried was stopped by Verbist, and so Brugge lost their first game of the season very early.

Wednesday 17th August:

Champions Cup third qualifying phase first leg

Club Brugge vs. Kaunas

Last meeting: -

Venue: Darius ir Gireno sc: 10819

Weather: Strong Wind, 16°C

Club Brugge would be happy with nothing else then a win, so much was clear before the start of the game. The game got underway on a very low tempo with Kaunas looking like they would be happy to defend and search for a goal on the counter attack. Because of this, Brugge didn't have much room to create chances and when they did, they fired wide or their shot was saved. In the last minute of the first half it was Guayre who opened the score as he fired in Kallstrom's nice cross. Just after that goal Brugge stole the ball from Kaunas and played it up towards Ceh. He got to the byline before he crossed the ball into the area. Casas jumped higher then the rest and scored his first goal of the season with his head. After the restart Kaunas defended more then in the first half and Brugge started to relax and so the second half didn't have much to offer for the fans, but still the Brugge fans are almost sure that they will progress.

Top goalscorer: Saboga (2) - Guayre (4)

Last meeting: Union SG - Club Brugge 2-2

Venue: Stade Joseph Marien (Parc Duden): 7482

Weather: Dry, 11°C

Both teams had met each other for the first time in the pre-season before this season. The game ended then in a 2-2 draw and Brugge didn't have it easy in that game. Now they had to face each other for the competition and the first half was, despite no goals were being scored, a pleasure to watch as both teams created a fairly amount of chances. In the second half it was the same thing, but this time, in the 52nd minute Kallstrom opened the score with a nice volley on Ceh's cross. It was his last important action of the game as a bit later he was injured. In the dying minutes of the game Kallstrom scored a second time, with Massaro being the one who gave the final pass.

Champions Cup third qualifying phase second leg (Brugge lead 2-0)

Club Brugge vs. Kaunas

Last meeting: Kaunas - Club Brugge 0-2

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 15978

Weather: Dry, 8°C

Brugge were almost certain that they would qualify for the group phases as they won the first leg with 0-2. And so they didn't push forward at the start of the game, but all of a sudden they got a penalty as Aghahowa was fouled in the area. Clement stepped up and converted the penalty. Kaunas looked like they would be happy to end the game now, but they still had a long way to go. In the 39th minute Casas played the ball to Guayre, who needed two attempts to score. In the second half Brugge relaxed but still had some chances, which they failed to finish of course. And so Club Brugge easily qualified for the Group Phases.

On first sight it looks like it's going to be a tough group but if it follows my explanation we should be able to qualify. Against Rangers we have won two times last season and if we can win our other two home games we should qualify as then we have 12 points which normally is enough.

If we look at the statistics of the past meetings of these two teams we expect Brugge to win, as they have met each other five times before and five times it was Club who won the game. Lokeren will look to score their fist goal against Brugge since Björn's arrival. When the first half was gone, it didn't looked like Lokeren would score as they didn't even created a single chance. Brugge totally outclassed them but found a magnificent playing Milojevic on their way. The second half started like the first one ended as Brugge kept up their dominance and Lokeren could do nothing else then clearing the ball. On 73 Kompany recieved his second yellow card of the game and he was sent away for an early shower. Lokeren took profit of this to get in the game but couldn't score and when Brugge started their slot offensive they knew it would be hard. First it was Englebert who scored and three minutes later, in injury time Casas added his goal to make sure the points stay at home.

Cheers Simon. it's always nice to see somebody new replying on your story. If you keep reading you will know if we keep the titleicon_smile.gif

Saturday 10th September:

Real Madrid are the favourites to win this year's Champions Cup according to the bookies, who placed them at 5-1. FC Bayern are placed at 7-1, Man Utd at 8-1, 9-1 will be for Valencia, Juventus is at 10-1 while Inter Milan is placed at 11-1.

The bookies given us 20-1 to win it and feel we will struggle against most of our opponents. I think that they haven't seen our performances last year.

Sunday 11th September:

Bryan Robson, the manager of the Nigarian international team, is appointed as Man City as of today.

Saturday 17th September:

Oostende came up to the First Division last year, where they achieved a nice 12th position. They haven't scored against Brugge and they will look to break that curse today. The game starts slowly and the first chance is for the visitors as Casas fires just inces wide. Twelve minutes later Aghahowa dribbles by two players before he chips the ball into the area where Guayre give his team the lead with a nice header. But three minutes later the score is level again as Vermast tips in the ball after Bizzarri saved his first attempt. In the second half both teams have some chances but it is Brugge who finishes them off as first Guayre fires in Ceh's cross and twenty minutes later Guayre complete his hat-trick as Casas isn't selfish and plays the ball up to him.

Champions cup group f, game 1

(GER) FC Bayern vs. Club Brugge

Last meeting: FC Bayern - Club Brugge 1-1

Venue: Allianz-Arena, München: 57334

Weather: Dry, 14°C

Last year both teams met each other in the second round of the Champions Cup were Brugge eliminated them. This year FC Bayern would be more then happy to take revenge. When the game reached half-time it looked like they would be able to do that, at least if they finish the chances they create. Brugge had the first chance of the game but the post denied Casas' long range effort. From then on it was all Bayern, but Bizzarri played a great game. Nine minutes after the restart Bayern took the lead trough Ballack, and it was more then deserved. Bayern weren't happy with only one goal and they kept pushing forward. Twelve minutes from the end of the game Santa Cruz doubled their lead and the game was played. Brugge, who played a mixed game took the last five minutes of the game for their credit and in injury time Kallstrom even scored a consolation goal when Englebert send him away.

Club Brugge had the advantage in the past four games between them and Westerlo, but they didn't have it easy as they lost once, won twice and the other game ended in a draw. Westerlo got off to an amazing start as Jef Delen opened the score for them after only three minutes of football. They even stayed the best team during the next 20 minutes but couldn't extend their lead in that period. After that it was almost one-way football as Brugge started to control. But their game was sloppy as they only tried long distance effort. When a half of an hour was past Englebert played a shot/pass towards Casas, who nicked it in with his head. So the game was level and there were still sixty minutes to be played. In the first fifteen minutes nothing really happened, so the fans of both teams had still hope in a victory. Brugge got out of the dressingrooms as the better team and this resulted in some nice football at some moments. Van der Heyden played the ball to Ceh, who was on teh left wing, and he played it into the area where Guayre took the ball on his chest before he blazed it into the net. Brugge had taken the lead and got confident because of this while Westerlo got a mental knock. Three minutes later Aghahowa was pushed in the area by Nkokolo and the referee placed the ball on the spot. Vandendriessche, who replaced Kallstrom, stepped up and scored his first goal for Brugge. He's only 21 years old and has the time to develop. The game didn't offered anything after that and so Brugge kept the points at home while Westerlo still have to win their first game of the season.

Beveren is the team that made Brugge suffer their biggest defeat in their first season under Björn's management. They lost 0-3 then and they're looking to do even better tonight. But it didn't looked like they would be able to do that as Casas opened the score after four minutes. The lead didn't last long as two minutes later Yaya made things level again with his head. Beveren pushed forward and looked and found another goal trough Vleminckx six minutes after they scored the equaliser. Beveren had the lead and were the better team on that moment. It looked like Brugge woke up from that moment and they started to bring some nice football from then on. Although they were the better team from then on, they couldn't found the net and the 2-1 lead for Beveren was still on when the second half started. Club knew that they had to do something if they wanted to close the gap with the top of the league and they took the game in their hands. On 61 Guayre scored his tenth goal of the season to make things level again. Three minutes later Guayre had the 2-3 at his foot but it was pushed away by the goallie, little did he know that Casas was there to tip in the rebound. Brugge had taken the lead in three minutes and they were ready to hold on to that result. Guayre had two little chances at the end of the game, but he didn't score. Björn wasn't mad at him for that as he told us after the game that Guayre is playing very well and that he adapted himself very well here in Belgium.

Champions cup group f, game 2

Club Brugge vs. Rangers (SCO)

Last meeting: Club Brugge - Rangers 3-1

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 29591

Weather: Dry, 10°C

You must remember last year's meeting between these two teams. Rangers won't have any good memories on these games as they lost twice with 3-1. "Rangers will overcome Club tonight" were Alex McLeish's, manager of the Gers, words before the game started. Björn's reply was simple but very clear. "We will prove that we weren't lucky last year." The first half was splitted up between the two teams, as Brugge took care of the first twenty while Rangers took the other twenty-five minutes. Brugge played very solid and like a team in the first twenty minutes, unlike Rangers. They faced even bigger problems when Casas opened the score after eight minutes. Rangers' dominance in the last twenty-five minutes wasn't as great as Brugge although De Boar was very close with a freekick attempt. In the second half the match could have gone either way but it stayed like it was until the last official minute of the game. However in injury time Van der Heyden played a great ball towards Guayre, who showed his class by placing the ball in the right top corner from a difficult angle. Now who said Brugge was lucky last year?

Top goalscorer: Guayre (11) - Bastiaensen (3)

Last meeting: Club Brugge - SV Roeselare 2-1

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 13766

Weather: Dry, 8°C

Roeselare came up last year along with Oostende and they have managed to stay up. Maybe they didn't have a great margin but at least they stayed up. So far this season they're in last position and have only won one game out of seven. The first half was pretty easy for Club Brugge as Roeselare didn't pose any threath. They let Brugge play how they wanted and all Roeselare did was clearing the ball. Because of this play, the game wasn't a beauty to watch and the openings minutes were really boring. When the nineteenth minute came Ceh tried an inswinging corner and it worked well as Kompany headed home his first ever goal for Brugge. Brugge became confident and spreaded the ball superbly over the pitch. Roeselare didn't knew what hit them first as they were totally outclassed. Despite playing in such a great way, Brugge didn't found the way to the net easily and they had to wait until the last minute of the first half to double their lead. Englebert played a long ball to Guayre, who beated his marker before he fired in the 2-0. In the second half Brugge tried a quick attack and it resulted in a goal for Casas. The few fans that travelled with Roeselare to this stadion were leaving already. They didn't miss much as Brugge shifted down a gear and the match just ran out it's time with a clear winner in this game.

This is always a special match for both team as they want to proove to their fans that they're better then their neighbours. In the past two years it was mostly the Club fans who knew that their team was better, in fact the last game was the only game of the four that they've lost, so there will be a big question on everyone's lips. Were Cercle lucky last year? Or are they just better then us? This game will also alow former Club Brugge player, Tim Smolders, prove that it was a stupid decision to let him go. The game started on a high tempo and it was the "home" team that took the best start. Labun opened the score for them with ten minutes gone on the clock. The rest of the first half saw a lot of chances for both teams but neither of them could score. In the second half it was the same scenario, only this time the goalkeepers conceded some goals. First it was Kompany who scored his second goal of the season as Van Der Heyden flicked the ball up to him in the area. The score was level again and both teams had the chance to take the lead. With fifteen minutes left on the clock it was Thompson, who scored to give Cercle a one goal lead. Five minutes later though Guayrechipped the ball into the area from the left. Aghahowa headed the ball towards goal and a little deflection of a defender made sure the keeper was on the wrong foot and the ball ended in the back of the net. The game was level once again and there were over ten minutes left to play. When Englebert played the ball to Casas and he, on his turn, dribbled past his marker and fired in the goal, there were mixed reactions in the stands. Some were cheering while others where yelling boo, but nevertheless Club won the derby, wether they were lucky or not.

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 29952

Weather: Dry, 3°C

Since Björn arrived at Brugge, both teams faced each other four times and Anderlecht never managed to win against "the blue army". Two wins for Brugge and two draw are the statistics. Although we must say that Anderlecht got off to their best start in this third season so maybe today is their day to win against Brugge. Anderlecht started with a defensive kind of 4-4-2 while Brugge chose for the more attacking kind of 4-4-2. The game got off on a very high tempo with the home team controlling very well. After six minutes Kallstrom played a great long ball towards Casas, who was free of the last defender. He chipped the ball over de Vlieger to open the score. It was a fantastic goal and a fantastic start for the current champions. Another six minutes later Aghahowa played a long ball to Guayre, who headed it on towards Kallstrom. He rounded the keeper before he putted the ball into the back of the net. Anderlecht were playing weak and in the 17th minute Brugge added a third trough Casas as Anderlecht made one defensive error after another. The fans didn't believe their own eyes as the game was played after only seventeen minutes. On 24 Ceh crossed the ball into the area from the left and Guayre was there to head in the fourth goal. And still it wasn't done as seven minutes before the end of the first half Kolar played a very weak backpass to the keeper, which was intercepted by Aghahowa and he was unable to miss the ball as he putted the forfait score onto the scoreboard. In the injury time of the second half Aghahowa scored another goal when Diogo played a great ball towards him. He dribbled past his arker on the right wing before he struck the ball into the topcorner from a very difficult angle. The second half wasn't such a beauty to watch as Anderlecht lost their self-confident a long way back in the game and Brugge were taking it easy. Still they scored one more time trough Casas as he completed his hat-trick, with Guayre being the one who gave the final pass. And so the game ended as Brugge played their best game ever against their greatest rivals. Never had the fans seen anything like that in their whole life.

Champions cup group f, game 3

(SPA) Betis vs. Club Brugge

Last meeting: -

Venue: Manuel Ruiz de Lopera: 38502

Weather: Dry, 14°C

Never ever have these two teams met each other so it's hard to tell what we can expect from this game. Betis ended 4th last year in Spain's La Liga and on this moment they're in tenth position. Club Brugge will perhaps feel very confident after their last game, where they trashed Anderlecht with 7-0. We will see what this game will bring us. The first half was a pleasure to watch as both teams created a fairly amount of chances. Brugge looked very confident and that resulted in a goal in the eleventh minute when Casas opened the score. Nine minutes later Betis were unlucky twice as Varela fouled Ceh in the area and the referee placed the ball on the spot. Guayre stepped up, but his penalty was saved only to tip the ball in in the rebound effort. Twelve minutes later Brugge showed how they reached the semi-finals last year as a superb team move was finished off by Kallstrom as the ball went in off the post. In the second half Betis were the better side as they pushed forward and played some nice football. Capi's freekick effort ended on the post as Betis didn't have lady luck on their side. With twenty minutes left to played Betis were in more trouble as Melchiot was sent off with his second yellow card of the game. After that the game didn't offered much and Brugge took the three points with them to Belgium.

Last year Antwerp managed to win for the first time against Club Brugge in two years. The statistics points out that Antwerp are finding it hard to score against Brugge, while Club seems to find the net rather easily. I wonder how it will be today. When the referee whistled to start the game Casas passed the ball to Guayre and he dribbled the whole half of the pitch before he scored. It was an amazing game and never ever had Björn seen this before. Antwerp were schocked and were only prevented from being slaughtered because of their goallie. In the twenty-fifth minute Casas dribbled himself to the byline before he centred the ball into the area. Guayre dived onto the ball and scored with a diving header. This was really his game. But this time Antwerp weren't really afraid as they pulled one back two minutes later trough Defays. It was only their first chance of the game, but they finished it in style. The second half brought the same scenario, Brugge were dominating and Antwerp were trying their best not to be slaughtered. Ten minutes from the end of the game Aghahowa picked up his goal as Kutuzov served him. Two minutes later Guayre scored his third and Brugge's fourth and final goal of the game. Brugge are really gaining a momentum, but you all remember last season I think? Where they had 20 points lead that were reduced to 5 points lead in a moment. So don't overrate them.

The game crashed before I played my game with Genk, but luckily I saved it after the Antwerp game, which means that Casas isn't injured now icon_smile.gif

Both teams have met each other five times and the last meeting was the first time that Genk managed to get a point against Brugge. The other four games were always won by Club. The statistics also show us that the game is very even with the scoreline, so we can expect a tight game this evening. The first half didn't offer much as both teams looked very nervous. The chances that were created vame from Brugge but they failed to finish of their chances. In the 33rd minute Mokoena pushed Casas in the area and the referee pointed at the spot. It was Clement who kept his nerves and blasted the ball past the goallie to give us the lead. The second half was also dominated by the home team, but still they needed to much chances to score. Fifteen minutes before the end of the game Guayre doubled the lead with a nice action and shot. But Genk pulled a goal back three minutes before the end of the game trough Oostvogels to make it thrilling minutes until the last minute. The game ended in a victory for the home team, but if they play like this in the Champions League, then it could be that they lose rather soon then late.

Champions cup group f, game 4

Club Brugge vs. Betis (SPA)

Last meeting: Betis - Club Brugge 0-3

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 29941

Weather: Dry, 4°C

Betis were looking to get some revenge after the 0-3 humiliation at home last time. But the game didn't start like they would have thought as David Rivas was sent off after twenty-one minutes. The reason for his early bad was because he tripped Casas. Despite having a man less on the pitch they still took the lead as Assunçao converted a penalty kick. Even after the goal, the game was still fairly even as both teams had some chances. Four minutes from the end of the first half it was Kallstrom who equalised after Diogo sent him away. In the second half Betis wasn't overrun but they couldn't control the game either and when there were twelve minutes left the fans of Betis were hoping to get away with a point. But their hope was blown away when Kutuzov made it 2-1 with eleven minutes left on the clock. Six minutes later Brugge were sure that they would keep the three points at home when Kompany headed in Kallstrom's corner. And so when that was done Betis were left stunned as they wanted to take revenge, but it didn't work. Anyway Brugge kept the three points at home and because of this they've taken a serious option to progress to the next round.

Jupiler league first division, game 13

5th Lierse (LWWWX) vs. Club Brugge 1st (WWWWW)

Top goalscorers: Janssens (4) - Guayre (18)

Last meeting: Club Brugge - Lierse 4-0

Venue: Herman Vanderpoortenstadion (Lisp): 14527

Weather: Dry, 3°C

Lierse will look for their first victory against Club Brugge since the arrival of Björn Noppe. In fact they only scored once in the previous meetings, which ended all four in a victory for Brugge. Because of this Lierse will be extra motivated to take the three points from Brugge. This motivation resulted in a goal in the 13th minute when Tchoutang finished off the first chance they created. Brugge did not knew what just happened and Lierse kept pushing forward. Twelve minutes later Hegelmeers doubled their lead. From that moment Brugge woke up and four minutes later they pulled one back trough Guayre. The fans had seen an entertaining first half in which the home team took the lead by a single goal. In the second half Brugge was the better team but Mardulier kept his nets clean at the start of the second half. Until the 59th minute that is as then it was Aghahowa who headed in the equaliser. The game was level again and there was another half an hour to play. Just past the hour mark Hegelmeers scored his second of the evening to give his team the lead again. Lierse finished at 100% as that was only their third shot on goal. But Brugge was determined to fight back and in the 69th minute Casas equalised when he headed in Aghahowa's perfect cross. Another three minutes later Brugge got what they deserved as Ceh's corner was headed in by Kompany to put the fourth and final goal on the scoreboard. It was a pleasant game with seven goals and another win for Brugge, which brings them on 11 wins in a row, and that's a new record.

Sunday 20th November:

Belgian cup 6th round

D3B Liège vs. Club Brugge D1

Last meeting: -

Venue: Le Pairay, Liége: 10611

Weather: Wet, 5°C

Today is the first time that both teams played against each other. Liège were the underdogs as they played two divisions lower then the current leader in the First Division, Club Brugge. Just like everyone thought Brugge controlled the game and created a lot of chances. Much credit must go to Liège's 'keeper, Descamps, as he kept his nets clean in the first half. Bizzarri did the same, but he didn't have any work to do there. Brugge kept up their dominance in the second half and this resulted into a goal after fifty minutes, when Guayre volleyed home Ceh's cross. It was a real hit for Liège who kept hoping on a penalty shoot-out. They started to push forward a little bit, but the only attempts they got were saved by Bizzarri. Fifteen minutes after the opening goal, Kallstrom doubled the lead for his team and Brugge were in a cushion. From then on the match just ran to his end.

Saturday 26th November:

Jupiler league first division, game 14

1st Club Brugge (WWWWW) vs. Standard 2nd (WLWDW)

Top goalscorer: Guayre (20) - Dati (15)

Last meeting: Club Brugge - Standard 1-1

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 27883

Weather: Wet, 5°C

Both teams have met each other five times before and the last time was in the Belgian Super Cup Final where the game ended in a one all draw. In the other four games, Brugge won three times and the other game ended in a draw so Standard has never beated Brugge since Björn is appointed. But the Standard of this year were much stronger then last year. They've picked up European expierence and they're in second position in the league. They were also the the ones that took the start of the game for their credit and their nice football gave them a goal after only eight minutes when Walasiak scored. Soon after that goal both teams had some chances but it was Brugge who scored. Aghahowa crossed the ball into the area and Casas was there to head home the equaliser. The rest of the first half was filled with chances by both teams and with some excellent saves too from the goalkeepers. Brugge came very strong out of the dressingrooms as they shifted in second gear. They played the ball round and Standard were shown what was real class. Eleven minutes into the second half and Guayre scored to give his team the lead. Three minutes after that goal came the key moment of the game. Fleur pulled down Guayre in the area and the referee gave him an undeserved red card. Guayre wanted to take the spot kick himself but he blazed it over the bar. There were no reason at all to worry as they had a men more and they were leading. In the 71th minute Guayre scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-1. Seven minutes later Ceh send away Guayre and for the third time this evening he found the back of the net. One minute into injury time the humiliation was complete when Casas scored his second of the evening to bring the total on 5-1. A heavy, but nonetheless, a good result for Club.

Champions cup group f, game 5

Club Brugge vs. FC Bayern (GER)

Last meeting: FC Bayern - Club Brugge 2-1

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 27909

Weather: Wet, 3°C

They have met each other three times before and the score is equally at the moment. Bayern have won once, as have Brugge and there was one draw between these two teams so it's hard to tell who we can expect to come out as winners. The first half started slowly before Bayern took control of it. The chances that they created, they failed to finish off and the chances that Brugge created were saved by Kahn. Six minutes before the end of the first half Pizarro played a great cross towards Santa Cruz and he volleyed the ball into the back of the net and so Bayern took the lead on a great moment, just before the end of the first half. Brugge started more furiuos at the second half and this resultated in some nice chances for them, but also for great counter possibilities for the Germans. When the game entered the last ten minutes the score was still in the advantage of the visitors but Brugge started their slot attack. They pushed forward with everything they had. This resultated in an equaliser by Kutuzov in the 83rd minute. And lady luck was chosing the Belgian's side as Casas finished off Ceh's nice pass. So Brugge kept the three points at home, but to be honest a draw would have been a more fair reflection of the game.

Sure, they have won twice, drew once and lost once, but the times Brugge won or lost it was always with one goal difference. Let's see what we will have today. The first half was very entertaining. Not because there were alot of goals, there was only one, but because both teams looked for the three points. Brugge got under pressure for the first time this season. AA Gent played very well organised, which caused Brugge some problems. Still they managed to take the lead in the 36th minute. A great team move saw a final pass by Casas to Guayre and he finished it off. Some say it was deserved, some say it wasn't. A draw with each a goal would have been a more fair reflection of the first half. In the second half AA Gent were defenitely the better team. This resulted also in the equaliser in the 62nd minute when Mrdakovic fired in his sixth goal for his club. Ten minutes later Ribus even scored to give Gent the lead. The fans were going wild on the stands. But it wasn't over yet as Tom Vets, a sixteen year old youth product from Brugge, scored the equaliser in the 88th minute. It was his first appearence ever for Club at the highest level. It was a very nice game to watch and Gent are the first team that stopped Brugge from winning after twelve games in a row without defeat.

Jupiler league first division, game 16

1st Club Brugge (WWWWX) vs. Mouscron 10th (LXLWL)

Top goalscorer: Guayre (24) - Nechelput (11)

Last meeting: Club Brugge - Mouscron 3-0

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 17041

Weather: Breezy, 4°C

If we look back at the previous meetings between these two teams we can see that Brugge have a great record against Mouscron. In the five times they've met each other Brugge haven't lost against them as they won four times and drawn once. The first real chance came in the 27th minute when Kallstrom's freekick took a deflection off the wall and stranded into the back of the net. From then on Brugge were awake and a nice team move saw a final pass by Ceh to Englebert. He tried a shot from just outside the area. The shot was unstoppable and so Brugge doubled their lead. Two minutes later Guayre was fouled in the area and Clement converted the penalty kick. The game was decided in eight minutes. Mouscron didn't create a single chance in the first half and Brugge kept up their dominance. The second half was just for the statistics as Brugge relaxed and Mouscron couldn't do anything. The only thing they did were shots from distance and these were easily saved by Bizzarri.

Wednesday 14th December:

There was some news today. Our centre-back and captain Clement picked up a torn groin muscle and will be unable to play for the next two months. I asked my physio what would be the best option to cure this and he recommended me a surgery. Because of this surgery he would be unable to play in the next four months.

The other news was that Betis offered us €2,6M for Kallstrom. I don't want to sell him except if they're willing to pay €15M for my Swedish midfielder.

Champions cup group f, game 6

(SCO) Rangers vs. Club Brugge

Last meeting: Club Brugge - Rangers 2-0

Venue: Ibrox Stadium: 43817

Weather: Breezy, shower, 3°C

In the last three times they've met each other it was always Brugge who took the three points. Brugge scored eight times while Rangers found the net two times. Let's see what the team from Scotland can do today. Right from the kick-off Brugge created a chance but Kutuzov's shot was to weak to beat reserve goalkeeper, McGregor. After that it was Rangers who created the best chances. Watson came close twice with a shot from distance and Lovenkrands' header was tipped over by Bizzarri. In the 25th minute they took a deserved lead when Davis tipped in a rebound shot after MacLean's header was pushed away by Bizzarri. After that goal the game rate dropped as the Gers started to defend. Brugge create one last chance in the first half when Van der Heyden sent away Kutuzov, but once again he couldn't finish it off. In the second half Kallstrom dropped a cornerkick into the area where Kutuzov headed it in and Brugge were equal. Until the referee blew his whistle to rule it out, because Casas made a foul into the area. In the 64th minute MacLean doubled the lead with a fine strike and it looked like the game was played. But it wasn't over as eight minutes from the end of the game MacLean added a second to make it 3-0. The beating got even worse when Lovenkrands scored in injury time to make it 4-0. Rangers played a perfect game and the deserved the three points fully.

Geneve, 15 o'clock:

Live draw for the second round of the Champions Cup.

For the third year in a row me and my assistant, Rene Verheyen, were sitting here in Geneve awaiting the draw for the second round of the Champions Cup. Sepp Blatter arrived in the room and did like he did every year, giving us a review of the group phases.

Sepp Blatter: Lady’s and gentlemen, managers and assistant managers welcome in Geneve for the live draw of the second round of the Champions Cup. But first we will have a review of the Group Phases, and we’re starting with ….

Group A:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1st Q Roma 6 4 1 1 10 5 +5 13

2nd Q Standard 6 3 0 3 5 4 +1 9

-------------------------------------------

3rd Newcastle 6 2 1 3 4 6 -2 7

4th Monaco 6 1 2 3 4 8 -4 5</pre>

As expected Roma ended on top of the group. They didn't have any real contest in this group and so it was just like a warm-up for them. They were unbeaten at home so far this season in the Champions Cup. In second place we have a surprising result as it was Standard who were able to qualify. It's their first time in three years that they're in these group phases and so far everything is going fine. Just like Roma, they're also unbeaten at home. But it could be very hard for them in the next round as they weren't able to win an away game. Newcastle ended in third position and instead of playing some Champions league football after new-year they will have to be happy with Uefa Cup football. Monaco did worse then last year, as then they were able to go trough to the next round. Now they're out of all the European competitions.

Group B:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1st Q Ajax 6 4 1 1 11 3 +8 13

2nd Q Arsenal 6 4 1 1 9 4 +5 13

------------------------------------------------

3rd VFB Stuttgart 6 1 2 3 6 7 -1 5

4th KR 6 0 2 4 3 15 -12 2</pre>

In this group there was one thing almost sure from the start and that was that former Champions Cup winners, Arsenal, would qualify from this group. This also happened as they ended as second. They have the same amount of points like first placed Ajax. Both teams deserved the qualification and they had a fair amount of points to much on third placed VFB Stuttgart, who will have to be happy with Uefa Cup football. As expected KR, the team from Iceland ended in last position and they weren't able to win one game.

Group C:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1st Q Sparta Prague 6 4 1 1 9 3 +6 13

2nd Q Real Madrid 6 3 1 2 12 6 +6 10

-----------------------------------------------

3rd FC Copenhagen 6 2 1 3 9 11 -2 7

4th Porto 6 0 3 3 6 16 -10 3</pre>

There are a some surprising things in this group. The first thing is that Sparta Prague ended on top of the group. They won all of their home games and were three points clear of second placed Real Madrid. After last year's humiliation they're back with the great ones. Just like Sparta they've won all of their home games. Their away record could be better for a team of their statut. In third place and able to play some Uefa Cup football after new year are FC Copenhagen. Anyway they've done better then the past two years as this time they were able to end in third position. Porto will be very sad about their poor run this year in the Champions league. It's their worst result in the three years that have passed.

Group D:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre"> 1st Q Marseille 6 5 0 1 14 3 +11 15

2nd Q Valencia 6 3 0 3 8 7 +1 9

----------------------------------------------

3rd Basel 6 2 1 3 6 12 -6 7

4th Olympiakos 6 1 1 4 4 10 -6 4</pre>

This group was totally dominated by Marseille. They lost only one game which is quite an achievement for the team that lost last year in the 4th round of the Uefa Cup. In second place and also qualified for the next round is Valencia. Last year Valencia weren't in the Champions Cup but this year they've done a good job. In third place we have Basel. They're happy to play some Uefa Cup football after the winterbreak. Just like last year Olympiakos ended in bottom in their group. The team from Greece will have to improve if they want to stay longer in the European Competitions.

Group E:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1st Q PSV 6 6 0 0 14 2 +12 18

2nd Q Chelsea 6 2 2 2 8 7 +1 8

-----------------------------------------------

3rd CSKA Moscow 6 0 4 2 5 10 -5 4

4th Sporting 6 0 2 4 3 11 -8 2</pre>

A complete dominance by PSV in group E, isn't what everyone expected before the games started. It is a great way of achieving qualification like this and I would like to warn every team. Chelsea qualified also but they didn't do it in style as they only managed to win two games. It's the third year in a row that they qualified for the second round of the re-newed Champions Cup. CSKA Moscow will be very happy with their third spot in this tough group. Although they didn't win any game they have two points more then Sporting, who ended in last position.

Group F:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1st Q FC Bayern 6 4 1 1 13 7 +6 13

2nd Q Club Brugge 6 4 0 2 11 8 +3 12

----------------------------------------------

3rd Rangers 6 2 1 3 11 10 +1 7

4th Betis 6 1 0 5 7 17 -10 3</pre>

As everyone expected FC Bayern ended on top with 13 points. In second place we have Club Brugge. This is their third time in a row that they were able to progress to the second round and I think it would be fair if we called them a sub-top club in Europe. Let's see if they can do as good as they did last year. The Gers ended in third position and they will have to be happy with Uefa Cup football for the rest of the season. Betis ended in a somewhat disaapoiting 4th position and are out of everything.

Group G:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1st Q Inter 6 6 0 0 17 1 +16 18

2nd Q Lyon 6 2 1 3 7 12 -5 7

--------------------------------------------

3rd Dortmund 6 1 2 3 4 10 -6 5

4th Besiktas 6 1 1 4 8 13 -5 4</pre>

Inter really dominated this group as they won all of their games and only conceeded one goal. So the other teams had to fight it out to get this second place and finally it went to Lyon. The team from French ended with seven points which is two points more then Dortmund who are moved to the Uefa Cup from now on. Besiktas were left with nothing as with four points they were the weakes link. The two teams that weren't qualified will be used to it as neither one of them made it to the second round in the past two years.

Group H:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1st Q Juventus 6 4 2 0 15 3 +12 14

2nd Q Man Utd 6 3 3 0 9 5 +4 12

--------------------------------------------------

3rd Benfica 6 2 1 3 10 14 -4 7

4th Austria Vienna 6 0 0 6 6 18 -12 0</pre>

As expected the two favourites were able to progress to the next round. Juventus ended on top with fourteen points and with an unbeaten record. Man Utd were also unbeaten but only managed to pick up twelve points. Benfica have achieved what they expected before the games started as they ended in third position. And then we have Austria Vienna, the only team that didn't pick up one point. They can concentrate them on other things beside European football for this season.

Sepp Blatter: So now that this is out of the way let's start the draw for the second round of the Champions Cup. The first team that comes out of the bowl is:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">ITA Roma </pre>

AS Roma. They had an easy group and ended on top of that warm-up group. They're currently in 4th position in the Italian Serie A. Their first game of the knock-out round will be at home against

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">ENG Arsenal </pre>

current Champions Cup holders Arsenal. They're currently leading in the Premier Division and that is saying something already. It will be an intresting game between these two giants.

The second game will see

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">ESP Valencia </pre>

Valencia at home. Valencia are in second position in La Liga, which mean they aren't one of the weaker teams in this round. Theire opponents will be

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">CZE Sparta Prague </pre>

Sparta Prague. They ended on top in the group with Real Madrid. They were unbeaten at home in that group and they didn't even conceded a goal at home, so Valencia are warned.

The third game will be between

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">ESP Real Madrid </pre>

Real Madrid, a team that consist out of star players and a good coach. For the fourth year in a row they're on top of their league in Spain but their first round didn't went like they expected, and

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">FRA Marseille </pre>

Marseille, who played a great group phase, will be a tough test. The team from France is looking to get as far as possible and with this squad they're able to be in for a shock.

The fourth game will see

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">BEL Standard </pre>

Standard at home. They're currently in second position in the Belgium Jupiler league. I know a lot of people will see this as a weak team, but they did better then Newcastle in the group phases which is a nice achievement. Besides they will have nothing to lose against

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">NED Ajax </pre>

Ajax. It will be a great derby between Belgium and Netherland. Ajax ended on top of their group leaving Arsenal behind them. So both teams have nothing to lose and it will be intresting to see who will come out as the winners.

The ninth team coming out of the bowl is

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">NED PSV </pre>

PSV. Maybe they don't have a big reputation in Europe but they were unbeaten in the group with Chelsea. They only conceded two goals and they will be hungry to bring back the glory days. Their opponents will be

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">BEL Club Brugge </pre>

Club Brugge. So that's another clash between Belgium and Netherland. Club Brugge went out in the semi finals last year and it's their third time in a row they've reached the second round. So this will be another game you will have to watch.

Up next is

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">ITA Inter Milan </pre>

the second in the Serie A, Inter Milan. The only other team that was unbeaten in the previous round. With only one goal conceded they were the best defending team in the previous round. Let's see if

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">ENG Man Utd </pre>

Man Utd are strong enough to beat them. They're currently in third position in the Premier Division and ended just below Juventus in their group. I think they will be out on revenge against Italy.

The last home team for the first leg will be

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">ITA Juventus </pre>

the current leaders in the Serie A, Juventus. They're red hot on the moment and they will be eager to find back the road to the final, just like they did last year. With only one team left means that they will face

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">FRA Lyon </pre>

Lyon in the second round of the Champions Cup. Lyon ended between Inter and Dortmund in their group and with this next contender up, they will have nothing to lose, which are mostly the most dangerous teams.

Sepp Blatter: This concludes the draw for the second round of the Champions Cup. I wish everyone the best of luck and I would like to see eight of you back here in a few months.

Due to some pc problems, it's been a while since I updated this story, but now it seems like they're fixed so let's hope we can get this back on the track.

Saturday 17th December:

Jupiler league first division, game 17

6th Sint-Truiden (LXWWW) vs. Club Brugge 1st(WWWXW)

Top goalscorer: De Mul (9) - Guayre (24)

Last meeting: Sint-Truiden - Club Brugge 1-1

Venue: Staaien, Sint-Truiden: 13656

Weather: Wet, 8°C

In the last meetings between these two teams there isn't really a big difference. Sint-Truiden picked up four against Brugge, while they picked up seven. So let's see how both teams will do today. Sint-Truiden pushed forward early on and looked for an early goal, but Bizzarri kept his nets clean. Until the 25th minute Sint-Truiden pushed forward in numbers and Brugge didn't knew what to do. Luckily for the current champions Bizzarri was playing a great game or they could have been down one or two goals. In the 36th minute Sint-Truiden pushed forward once again but Kompany stole the ball. He played it up to Diogo, who sent away Casas. He was clear of his defender and you know what happens then most of the time, he blasts the ball into the back of the net, just like he did this time. Four minutes later Van der Heyden played a weak backpass towards the keeper, but the ball was intercepted by De Mul, who finished it off of course. Things didn't look good for Brugge in the 50th minute when De Mul finished off a nice individual effort with a shot from 25 yards out, and Bizzarri was beaten for the second time in this game. After that the game just ran to it's end and I just became mad when I saw that my team wasn't even trying. They stood there and let Sint-Truiden control the game and so we lost against a good Sint-Truiden who catched us on a very bad day.

It's the first time that these two teams face each other, so we can't look back in the future to judge a comment on this game, although many expect Club Brugge to win easily against a non division side. The expectation became true when Kallstrom opened the score for the visitors. Ten minutes later Casas made it 0-2 as he fired in Kallstrom's perfect pass. Brugge started to relax which gave a little bit more space to the home team, who had some little chances. They didn't want to give up that easily and when De Cooremeter pulled one back a minute before the end of the first half. The though of getting back into the game in the second half, was alive for a moment as they had the better chances in the start of the second period. But when Diogo headed in Englebert's cross, they knew that it was over. Still there were twenty-two minutes left and so they started to push forward. Brugge started to relax for the second time in this game and when Kallstrom fired in his second of the evening, on the counter attack, the game was decided and just ran to it's end. So the shock troops from Lovendegem are out of the cup from now on.

Sportnieuws - Canvas

Oversea move for Swedish youngster??

Rumours are spreading that Kim Kallstrom will leave Jan Breydelstadion on the first january. It is said that he would join David O'Leary at Aston Villa. The former manager of Leeds United is willing to offer €8,75M for the Swedish cultured midfielder. However manager at Club Brugge, Björn Noppe, is waving away all posibilities of a transfer.

The 23 year old attacking midfielder joined Club Brugge on the 8th July of 2003. Since then he has become a valuable player and he was one of the key factors in Brugge's succes. He has already won six trophy's with his current club. He even reached the Semi Final of the Champions Cup last season, so some are thinking that he wouldn't leave that behind for 13th placed Aston Villa.

"We're not thinking about selling Kim so far. If, and only if, he really insists on a move, then we could think about a possible transfer." was Björn reaction on this rumour. We'll keep you updated, if we hear more about this.

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

There was more news today, as we were told that we would play arch rivals, Anderlecht, in the Quarter Final of the Belgian Cup.

Sunday 25th December:

Barcelona splashed out €48M for Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart. After two season and a half at Ajax, the 22yearAfter old felt that he was ready to play on a higher level.

Friday 30th December:

Dutch striker Roy Makaay traded his Chelsea shirt today for one of Real Madrid. The Spanish giant paid €12.25M for the player.

League round-up on 31st December 2005:

Belgium:

As expected Club Brugge is on top of the league. They have four points lead on second placed Standard. A strong run by them has given them an eight point lead on third placed Anderlecht. On the bottom of the league we see Antwerp and last placed Oostende. They are three and four points respectively from a safe place.

England:

After eighteen games Arsenal are still waiting to see their first defeat. Because of this it looks like the battle is already decided there. The other teams are fighting for the other Champions Cup places. Chelsea, on twelve points from Arsenal, are in second position with a one point lead on Liverpool. The other title favourite Man Utd is in fourth position with only two points less then Chelsea. Blackburn, Sunderland and Portsmouthare in 18th, 19th and 20th position respectively and are fighting to avoid relegation.

Italy:

Juventus is currently leading in the Serie A after a nice run of results. They have a three point lead on last season champions Inter Milan and third placed AC Milan. So everything is still posible in Italy. At the foot of the table we see Fiorentina in 20th position, Como in 19th and Udinese in 18th position. The last two are three points away from a safe spot while Fiorentina is going to have it tougher as they only have seven points, which is eight points away from a safe place.

Spain:

It won't surprise you if I tell you that Real Madrid is on to of La Liga. After seventeen games they have three points more then Valencia who are in second place. The third place is given to Celta while Barcelona is in fifth, only eight points from their arch rivals. So nothing is decided yet in Spain. Murcia is in 18th position with 16 points, which is as much as 17th placed Alavés. In 19th position we have Elche with eight points, and in last position with two points less is Recreativo.

Club Brugge 3 - Brussels 1

First Division - game 18

Friday 20 January 2006

20:30 Jan Breydelstadion - Bruges

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

Club Brugge have easily won their 18th game in the First Division against 14th placed Brussels. Because of this win Brugge are well on their way to grab their third tittle in three years under manager Björn Noppe. The 15181 fans in the stadium saw an almost one way game as the home team controlled everything.

Early pressure

It soon became very clear how the game would be played like. Brugge pushed forward and Brussels couldn't do anything back. Patrick Nijs was soon forced in action, pushing away a distance shot by Kallstrom in first instance and preventing him to score five minutes later. Guayre had a third chance of the game just before the tenth minute, but once again Nijs was there to divert it wide.

Kutuzov opener

The game was finally spiced up when Vitaly Kutuzov opened the score with 22 minutes on the clock. It was Guayre who dribbled his way on the right wing before he set up the Belarusian striker - who now played as attacking midfielder on the right wing. It looked like Brussels would have to do something back if they didn't want to be slaughtered. However, they weren't as the flow of the game stayed the same.

Action and reaction.... and another reaction

Seven minutes before the end of the first half it was Kutuzov again who scored as he headed in Ceh's perfect cornerkick. The home team was in a cushion now but it only last three minutes as Makasi pulled one back with an amazing volley from twenty yards out that left Bizzarri stranded. The game couldn't get any better for the home fans when Casas restored their two goal lead a minute later. Once again it was Ceh who gave the assist from a cornerkick.

Boring second half

As expected the second half wasn't as spectacular as the first 45 minutes as Brussels were unable to do something and Brugge didn't need to do something. Guayre - Brugge's top goalscorer - had some chances together with Kallstrom but both were unable to score today.

Sunday 22nd January:

I decided to offer a contract to Vasilis Seretis, a 20 year old promising defender. After three seasons of Aris, he decided to leave the club as they couldn't offer what he wanted. Now the four times capped Greece player is looking for a new club and has attracted the intrest of several top clubs including Real Madrid, Arsenal, Deportivo, Dortmund and Newcastle. The latter already offered a contract to him.

On that same day I decided to offer a contract to Jonathan Soranio of Deportivo. The nine times U21 capped forward is looking like another great star, and now that his contract is unprotected I didn't want to hesitate and offered him a contract at our club. Should he accept our offer we would have to pay €4,1M for the Spanish striker.

Monday 23rd January:

It became very clear how fast Soranio wanted to leave the Spanish club as a day after I offered him a contract he called me to tell me that he was on his way to my club. I was very happy with this news and it could be that he get his first chance against Anderlecht on Wednesday when we face them in the Belgian Cup Qtr Final.

In the afternoon he arrived at the club and met the players and the coaching staff. Meanwhile it didn't seem like Seretis would join our club as Real Madrid offered a contract to the player.

Club Brugge 3 - Anderlecht 0

Belgian Cup Qtr Final leg 1

Wednesday 25 January 2006

20:00 Jan Breydelstadion - Bruges

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

A few changes were made to the team that won against Brussels on Friday. Maertens was placed back on the bench as Diogo came back in the starting eleven, after his suspension, while Jonathan Soranio got his chance to prove himself despite Guayre. At the back Butina got a chance to prove himself for the first time since the arrival of Bizzarri. The unavailbe players for the home team were Clement and Rozehnal. Anderlecht had to miss Jimmy Hempte this evening. Not that it changed much about the result as Brugge, as expected, won the game to put them in a good position for the return in a fortnight.

Bitter rivals

Ever since 1967 these two teams have been bitter rivals on and off the pitch and this evening it wasn't any better. Those of Anderlecht singing racist songs about the players of Brugge and vica versa. Add to this that Mendoza has left Brugge for Anderlecht last season and the heat lightens up more and more. The start however was kind of nervous as both teams needed a while to create a decent chance.

Mendoza pressure

Twenty minutes were already gone by when the first decent chance of the game came up. Ironicly it was Andres Mendoza who created it. The pitch were he had scored more then a 100 times in the past years was also the pitch where he now played against Brugge. Four shots in twenty minutes time came from his foot, with Butina forced in action for two times. First making a fingertip save on his volley and fifteen minutes later saving a shot from distance. Brugge could only put up one chance during this time, as Kutuzov's shot forced De Vlieger in action. A corner kick was the best he got out of it.

Spectacular second half opening

The second half started way better for the home team and fans. The first chance of the second half was finished off immediately. Kallstrom spotted the run of Casas and played a 45 yard pass forward. Casas continued with his run in the box before the Argentinian striker finished it off with a nice groundshaving strike. Anderlecht didn't knew what him them so fast but four minutes later Brugge were back. Once again it was Kallstrom who played the ball into the box towards Diogo. The right sided defender tried to beat Anderlecht's goallie with a powerful header but De Vlieger saved and deflected the ball clear. Unfortunately for him Soranio readed the game well, and had something to prove on his debut, as Brugge's latest signing made it 2-0.

Home team control

Brugge were safe now and started to relax as it looked like Anderlecht were shocked. The controlling style of football did earn Brugge some chances to score even more but lack of finshing started to play a role and prevented them from scoring. Anderlecht only created one last chance after that second quick goal, trough Quinteros, but Butina proved himself by keeping his clean sheet. In the end it became even worse for Anderlecht when Saeternes headed the ball past De Vlieger to score his first goal of the season for Brugge. A nice result was what Brugge wanted before they started this game, and now 90 minutes later they got what they wanted.

Thursday 24th January:

The race to get Seretis' autograph on a contract offer became hotter then ever. Six new teams offered him a contract today. The likes of Dortmund, Lazio, Celta, Arsenal, Man Utd and Deportivo added them to the list of clubs who are intrested in the Greece defender. I started to think that it will be almost impossible to get him to our club, but still I'll keep hoping.

Milan Baros left his club Liverpool for another Premier League team. W.B.A. will certainly be glad that they have signed such a talented player. It will also be necesary as they are currently in a disappointing 19th position.

There was also a change in our competition today as Rudi Völler left third placed Anderlecht to take control of AA Gent, who are currently in 15th position. It was a strange decision by the German manager, but it was a public secret that the board of directors couldn't agree with his way of working.

GBA 1 - Club Brugge 3

First Division - game 19

Saturday 28 January 2006

20:00 Olympisch Stadion (Kiel) - Antwerp

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

The home team has two players who are unavailable for this game as defender Philippe Leonard is still out for two weeks with broken ribs, while Mohamed Messoudi, a forward, is out with a back strain for a day. For Club Brugge Rozehnal returned from injury - although he still isn't fit enough - while Clement is still out for three months. GBA will play with the same eleven players that earned a draw at home against Turnhout on Wednesday in the Cup. Guayre is back in the team for the visitors as Björn Noppe placed Soranio back on the bench for this game. GBA started very dominant in this game but a quick reply from Brugge, struck GBA and stunned them before Brugge made it worse.

Dull opening

The fans saw a great start from the home team who took the game in their hands from the fist minute. This resulted into a serious test for Butina on shots from Van Zundert and Snelders, but the Croatian goallie kept his nets clean at the start. Just before the first quarter of the game was past Ageyman tried to beat Butina from distance but his culing shot went over the bar. Two minutes later though he finally opened the score for GBA as Ageyman was the first to score against Butina this season.

Guayre's reply

Guayre was very happy to be back in the starting eleven -even after Soranio's succesful debut - and he was also the first Brugge player to fire a shot at target. However Bram Verbist got in his way to prevent him from scoring the equaliser. Three minutes before the half hour mark Kallstrom played an in-swinging corner which was brought down on Guayre's chest. The 25 year old striker didn't hesitate as he fired in the equaliser. Brugge pulled confidence out of this goal and started to push forward. They were rewarded for this as once again it was Guayre who placed the ball against the back of the net. Brugge got back from a goal down to a one goal lead in two minutes trough their Spanish striker.

The right time

GBA looked a bit confused after these two quick goals, which resulted into some bad defending at the back. When Argentinian striker, Casas, gave his team a two goal lead just before the end of the first half, it looked like the game was played. No matter how hard GBA tried in the second half they always found Butina in their way. Because of his good performance, Bizzarri could start to worry about his number one jersey. Soranio also came on the pitch 15 minutes before the end of the game, but he couldn't make an impact on a game that was already won. With four wins out of their last five games, Brugge seem to be back on the good road.

Sunday 29th January:

Great news came in today as Seretis' agent called me to say that his client had accepted our offer. It was unbelievable as he could join elite teams like Real Madrid and Man Utd, but instead he choose for us. He won't regret it and I certainly hope that he will enjoy his stay here at the club.

Club Brugge 1 - Union SG 0

First Division - game 20

Saturday 4 February 2006

20:00 Jan Breydelstadion - Bruges

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

One change was made to the team that beaten GBA last week as new boy Seretis got his chance to prove himself, which meant that De Cock was sent back to the bench. Rozehnal returned was fully fit for this game but wasn't selected in the first 18 players. The visitors, Union SG, had to miss a lot of players today as Robin Mauws (suspended), Cyril Mangin (injured), Thijs Messiaen (injured), Jean-Luc Walschap (injured), Steven Maes (injured) and Umit Bilican (injured) were all unavailable for this game. This meant that Union Sg had to line up some reserve players and that Brugge would have an easy game. This was also the truth as Brugge did have an easy game, but also one of the most boring the fans had seen this season.

Chances, but no real ones

The game started quietly and it took 14 minutes to see the first real chance of the game. Englebert tried a shot from distance, but a fingertip save by Coppens held the ball out of the net. Six minutes later Brugge were awarded a freekick on a dangerous position and a superb save by Coppens was needed to prevent Ceh from celebrating. On the half hour mark Kallstrom had a chance to open the score as he tried a shot from just outside the area but he couldn't keep it down. And so 30 minutes were gone and the fans still hadn't seen a nice build up for a chance.

Who do you think

It didn't last long after that before Brugge opened the score. Four minutes after the first 30 minutes were needed to open the score. Diogo had the ball on the right wing, when he swung the ball into the area. Kallstrom headed it on towards the second post, where Guayre tipped the ball into the back of the net. The home fans were celebrating and thought that this was the thing that the game needed but nothing else was less true. A boring last ten minutes was what the fans got to see in the first half.

Shots from distance

When you will see the match stats you will think that it was a fun game to see, but to be honest, shots from distance were the only things to see in the second half. Union SG can thank their 'keeper Coppens as he was the one that prevented the humiliation for this evening. Maybe it would have been an other game if Union could have ligned up their better players.

Seretis and Guayre

One thing about both players is the last thing in this report. At the back Seretis looked solid and calm and looks to have a bright future at the club. Especially now that Clement is still out for three months, he will get his chances to prove himself and he started here tonight. The thing about Guayre is that he has picked up a yellow card in this game, which means that this is his fifth card of the season and that he will miss the next game away at Anderlecht in the return of the Quarter Final. Good news for Soranio.

Anderlecht (0) 2 - Club Brugge (3) 6

Belgian Cup Qtr Final leg 2

Wednesday 8 February 2006

20:00 Stade Constant Vanden Stock - Brussels

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

Anderlecht only had to miss captain Glen De Boeck this evening as he was out with a torn groin muscle. Otherwise everyone was match fit and available to fight back from their three nill loss two weeks ago. The visitors, Club Brugge, had bigger problems as they had to miss Clement (injured), Van der Heyden (injured), Aghahowa (international duties) and Guayre was suspended for this game. Gvozdenovic replaced Van der Heyden at the back, while Soranio started upfront. It was a classic game to watch as no less then eight goals were scored in this rival clash.

Inspirational Englebert

It didn't last long before the game was beyond doubt as four minutes into the game, Englebert opened the score with a well placed shot from just outside the area. The Brugge supporters were cheering as they knew it couldn't go wrong now. Englebert was also involved in the second goal of the game when he set up Soranio twenty minutes into the game. More then the half of the 26319 people in the stadion were quiet as they saw their team trailing the facts.

30 yard strike

Anderlecht, however, wanted to fight back for their fans and did so when Mendoza pulled one back with an absolutely stunning strike from 30 yards out. Not that the ball was placed that well, but an error from Butina made it so that Anderlecht were back in the game. It could have been a totally different game if Baseggio's freekick attempt would have gone in, instead of hitting the post.

Two goals, two halfs

The game rate dropped a bit after that shot, but when Ceh fired in his freekick attempt just before the end of the first half, the visitors were celebrating for the third time already this evening. De Vlieger couldn't be blaimed for this goal as the ball took a little deflection of Baseggio. Anderlecht stormed forward at the start of the second half and were rewarded for this when Quinteros placed the ball past Butina. Would this be the factor that would change the whole game?

Three goals, one player...

Yes and no is the answer. It did change the game but not for the home team. Brugge started to control the game and when Casas scored his first goal of the evening there were only 23 minutes left to play. That was more then enough for the Argentinian striker as he fired in two more goals. His second of the game came in the 81st minute while he completed his hat-trick four minutes later. This brought his season tally to 24 goals in only 33 games. The home team couldn't temper their feelings and this became clear when Zewlakow elbowed Vets, which left the referee only one solution. The red card.

Friday 10th February:

I watched the draw for the Semi Final of the Belgian Cup. Two First division teams were still in it, together with two Second division clubs. At the end of the draw we were set up with Genk. The first leg will be played on the 22nd of March 2006.

Lokeren 0 - Club Brugge 5

First Division - game 21

Saturday 11 February 2006

Daknam - Lokeren

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

The home team had to make some changes as both Lezou Hugues Doba and Davy De Beule were suspended, while Christian Van Hoeylandt, Kilian Overmeire and Grégory Rondeux were out with injuries. Soranio was back on the bench for Brugge as Guayre returned from his suspension. Lokeren who were in eight place were outclassed as Brugge controlled the game from start to finish.

Golden strikeforce

Once again Brugge didn't have any kind of competition against this Lokeren side. If we look back in time we are shown that Lokeren didn't managed to win against Brugge in the last three years. To be more precise, Lokeren didn't even scored a goal against the current Champions in that time. Today it was the same stuff. Brugge had an early chance when Ceh chipped the ball towards Guayre, but Gretarsson headed the ball over the goal. It was only delay of exsicution as five minutes later they were back. Guayre dribbled his way past tow defenders before he opened the score with a fabulous strike. Brugge were very confident and everything they tried, worked. Five minutes later Ceh chipped the ball into the six yard box and this time it was Casas who finished it off.

Lokeren just watched

Lokeren could only watch as they were played away as Brugge kept pushing forward. Kallstrom tested out Milojevic from long range, while Zoundi managed to get a corner on the other half of the pitch. The resulting corner however was headed away and a counter attack was what followed. A nice team move involving Kutuzov, Kallstrom, Diogo and Ceh was finished off in style as the latter played the ball towards Guayre, who rounded the goallie, before he tipped the ball into the back of the net. Englebert and Kallstrom tried from distance before the end of the first but neither of them could make it four.

Second hat-trick

A six minute double strike from Casas was more then enough to put the forfait numbers on the scoreboard. First it was Kutuzov who served the Argentinian, then it was Swedish midfielder, Kallstrom, who gave the final pass. Lokeren were totally outclassed just like the two previous years. It looks like Brugge is to strong for this competition, and hopefully we can say the same in the Champions League in a few weeks.

Standard fail

With Standard dropping points in two of their last three games, Brugge are now nine points clear with 13 games left to play, and it looks like nobody will be able to stop the blue army from getting their third tittle under manager Björn Noppe. This will then be their fourth consecutive tittle, but that's one less then Anderlecht. They managed to get five consecutive tittles between 1964 and 1968.
