Friday 22nd October:

Lokeren managed to keep Anderlecht at a draw as the game ended one all.

Saturday 23rd October:

Genk can’t stop Brugge.

This evening Genk tried to put Brugge’s good form to a stop at Fenix Stadion, but it didn’t work. Brugge made the difference in the second half thanks to a Casas goal and a Mendoza goal. It looked like Genk could come back in the game after Thijs converted a penalty, but a few moments later Mendoza added his second of the evening to settle the final score.

In the first half we saw that both teams tried to score but both Butina and Carini did their job very well. In the second half it looked like Brugge waited long enough as they pushed for goals. When Ceh chipped the free kick in the area Casas jumped higher then the rest and headed the ball into the back of the net. A good ten minutes later Van der Heyden played the ball up to Ceh, who now had the ball on the left wing. He played it in front of Mendoza, who was unmarked, and you know what happens then? Indeed he scores. In the 77th minute Genk got back in the game when the referee awarded a penalty for a little foul by De Cock on Roussel. Thijs converted it and the fans of Genk believed in it again. But they didn’t believe in it for long as Kallstrom played a nice trough ball for Mendoza, which he finishes off.

Final score: Genk 1 – Club Brugge 3

Scoreline: Casas 48 min 0-1; Mendoza 61 min 0-2; Thijs pen 77 min 1-2; Mendoza 82 min 1-3

Attendance: 22757

Bookings: Mokoena, Kpaka,

Player ratings: Butina 9, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 6, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 8, Mendoza 9, Ceh 7

Because of this victory we maintain our unbeaten run in the league, which now is already eighteen games without a defeat.

Antwerp managed to win at home against Sint-Truiden with 3-1 while Charleroi and Mouscron didn’t find the way to the net. The last game today saw Germinal Beerschot win in and against La Louvière with 0-2.

Sunday 24th October:

Cercle Brugge trashed Lierse with 3-0 while the newly promoted teams faced each other. Neither Roeselare nor Oostende found the way to the goal. AA Gent - Beveren ended 4 against 2 while Standard drew level with Westerlo. The final score was two all.

Monday 25th October:

Fans favourite isn’t in manager’s plans!

Today Gert Verheyen asked his manager, Björn Noppe, if he could place him on the transfer list. The gaffer accepted it, which is quite strange. Last season Verheyen was picked as the fans player of the season and now he can just leave. But Gert told us that he understood it. I’m 34 year old and with the arrival of Aghahowa, who is young and talented, I’m not good anymore. The question is, which club will want to buy a 34 year old player? Manager Björn Noppe told the press that he wouldn’t mind if Verheyen stayed untill the end of the season as he is still a great player. To be continued…..

Wednesday 27th October:

Brugge get lucky point against Real Madrid.

Club Brugge’s third game in the Champions Cup ended great as they managed to get a point at home against the great Real Madrid. The Spanish star team had the best chances over the whole game but Brugge wasn’t out played. Although Brugge lost their striker Casas with an injury after 18 minutes, he isn’t out. So that’s also good news.

Real Madrid were determined to not make the same mistake as AC Milan did as they didn’t pushed forward from the first minute. The game started slowly with both teams trying their luck from distance. After 18 minute Casas was injured and replaced by Lange. After that Real started to push forward. The likes of Beckham, Raul, Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane,… were all stopped by Butina, who is playing his best season so far here at Brugge. Diogo also played another great game as right back. Brugge had some chances also trough Mendoza and Kallstrom but Casillas stopped all of them. And so Brugge march on in the Champions league so far. They are on top with 7 points.

Final score: Club Brugge 0 - Real Madrid 0

Attendance: 29969

Bookings: Beckham, Figo

Player ratings: Butina 9, Diogo 8, Van der Heyden 6, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Verheyen 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 5 (Lange 18 min 7), Mendoza 7, Ceh 7

Elsewhere at San Siro Milan surprisingly lost against Rangers with 0-1 as Michael Ball’s penalty goal in the 44th minute was the only goal of the game. Here are the standings so far:

Little stop for Brugge

AA Gent were the first team that didn’t lose against Brugge this season in the league. But they didn’t win also as the game ended in a draw. Everyone thought Brugge would lose their first game this season when Ribus opened the score for Gent. But a minute later Kallstrom opened his account with a great 25 yard freekick. Herpoel came out as the deserved match winner.

The first half started slowly as Brugge’s players were still a bit tired after the Champions Cup game from Wednesday. Casas, Aghahowa and Mendoza both had some chances in the first half but a great playing Herpoel kept his team up. In the 57th minute Ribus headed in Machethe’s corner to take an undeserved lead. One thing was for sure, Brugge wouldn’t leave it like that and a minute later they equalised as Kallstrom scored a beautiful freekick from 25 yards out. They even pushed on for more but Herpoel was the reason why the game ended square.

Final score: Club Brugge 1 – AA Gent 1

Scoreline: Ribus 57 min 0-1; Källström 58 min 1-1

Attendance: 19353

Bookings: Dever

Player ratings: Butina 6, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 8, Casas 7, Mendoza 7, Ceh 7

Cercle Brugge can’t stop their neighbours

It was a nice game to watch this evening at Jan Breydelstadion as Cercle Brugge tried to stop their neighbours, Club Brugge. It was the “away†team that won the game thanks to goals from Mendoza and substitute striker Lange. Nobody can blaim Cercle that they didn’t try because they had also six chances to score.

Just like every year when these two teams meet each other, you know you’ll get a nice game to watch. First half chances from Jbari and Frigard were stopped by Butina and on the other side Begeyn stopped Casas and Mendoza. In the second half Källström chipped a corner kick into the area which was headed in by, who else, Mendoza. Björn wasn’t happy with 0-1 as he substituted Ceh for Stoica and Casas for Lange. That last change was a good one as six minutes before the end of the game Lange finished off Aghahowa’s perfect pass and Brugge march on…

Final score: Cercle Brugge 0 – Club Brugge 2

Scoreline: Mendoza 67 min 0-1; Lange 84 min 0-2

Attendance: 28469

Bookings: Vandenbussche; Clement, Van der Heyden, Casas

Player ratings: Butina 8, Diogo 8, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 9, Englebert 8, Kallstrom 7, Casas 7 (Lange 70 min 7), Mendoza 10, Ceh 8 (Stoica 70 min 7)

AA Gent drawed 2-2 against Germinal Beerschot while Antwerp easily won against Beveren with 4-1. Genk lost surprisingly at home against Oostende with 0-1 while Mouscron won in and against La Louvière with 0-1. Lokeren beated Sint-Truiden with 2-1 and Roeselare - Charleroi ended one all. Standard easily trashed Lierse with 3-0 while Westerlo won against Anderlecht with 2-0.

Saturday 6th November:

Brugge too big for the First division

As expected Brugge won against Antwerp this evening. A first half goal of Englebert and a second half strike by Mendoza sealed Antwerp’ faith. It wasn’t all bad that Antwerp did as they gave a bit work to Butina also, but he managed to get his 9th clean sheet of the season. For the first time this season Casas played a bad game and got away with a rating of four.

When Antwerp enterd the pitch, you saw that they didn’t came to win, but to defend as much as possible. So Brugge tried their luck from distance and it worked as Englbert’s 30 yard strike in the top corner was unreachable for goallie Feys. Brugge pushed on and had chances enough, but they had to wait until the second half to see their lead getting doubled when Van der Heyden played a superb long ball for Mendoza. The Peruvian striker controlled it well and then blasted the ball past Feys, who turned around for the second, and final, time this evening. It wasn’t a slaughtering for Antwerp, but they did almost everything to prevent from being slaughtered. Brugge had a new personal record as they were unbeaten for 16 games so far.

Final score: Club Brugge 2 – Antwerp 0

Scoreline: Englbert 33 min 1-0; Mendoza 62 min 2-0

Attendance: 17348

Bookings: Diogo; Evens, Cissé

Player ratings: Butina 8, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 4, Mendoza 9, Ceh 7

Anderlecht easily won against Roeselare as the game ended 3-0 while Germinal Beerschot couldn’t win against Cercle Brugge. The game ended one all. Lierse took distance of Lokeren in a 3-0 win while Mouscron won against Genk with 3-1. Sint-Truiden were in last position after a 2-3 loss at home against Westerlo.

Sunday 7th November:

Oostende defeated AA Gent with 1-0 to climb up to the fifth position which is superb for them. Charleroi got their ass wooped at home as they slumbed to a 1-4 defeat against La Louvière. The last game of the tenth playday saw Beveren and Standard ending into a 1-1 draw. After ten games we were eight points clear of our first followers, Anderlecht, who had 20 points.

Tuesday 9th November:

I received an e-mail from West Ham in which they asked if €850K upfront and another €150K after 10 goals was enough for Alin Stoica. They would even give me a 40% sell on clause. I send back that I was very happy with this deal and that his agent will contact them very soon.

Not yet Real Madrid…

Would you be surprised if I told you that Brugge lost at Bernabéu? I don’t think so. Brugge are maybe untouchable in the first division, but against teams like Real they can’t win so far. Raul scored in the first half and Ronaldo and Castillo did in the second half. Four minutes after Real’s third goal, Brugge pulled one back trough Mendoza, who dreams about a transfer to Real Madrid.

Ok, Brugge managed to get a draw at home against Real Madrid, but whoever thought that they could do the same at Bernabéu is ready for the doctor. The first goal of Real came trough Raul as he finished off Ronaldo’s nice cross. Just before half-time Verheyen had to go off with an injury to be replaced by Stoica. In the second half Real pushed forward as they wanted more then 1-0 and they got what they were looking for in the 58th minute when Ronaldo scored a fabulous strike from 20 yards. Seven minutes later Castillo made it three nill with a diving header. But Brugge were determined to fight back at least a bit and they found the goal they were looking for in the 69th minute when Mendoza headed in Ceh’s cross. Mendoza was very happy with his goal and he hopes that he has impressed the scouts there, to make an offer on him.

Final score: Real Madrid 3 - Club Brugge 1

Scoreline: Raul 35 min 1-0; Ronaldo 58 min 2-0; Castillo 65 min 3-0; Mendoza 69 min 3-1

Attendance: 68936

Bookings: De Cock, Clement, Englebert

Player ratings: Butina 6, Diogo 6, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Verheyen 5 (Stoica 45 min 7), Englebert 6, Kallstrom 7, Casas 7, Mendoza 8, Ceh 7

In Scotland it didn’t went as I hoped as Rangers lost with 0-2 against Milan. Shevchenko scored both goals, one in the 10th and one in the 20th minute. Everything is still possible for all of the teams, but the Gers have the baddest papers.

Friday 12th November:

AA Gent and Mouscron played the first game of the 11th playday. The final result was a goal each.

Also today Alin Stoica came into my office to tell me that he would move to West Ham on the 1st of January 2005.

Saturday 13th November:

That’s called finishing.

If you would see the final score of 1-3 for Brugge this evening away at Standard, you would think that they walked it. When you are thinking that, you are thinking wrong as Brugge only had four shots on target, while Standard had four shots on target and nine off target. Englebert opened the score for Brugge. Standard equalised trough a penalty which was converted by Cavens. In the second half Casas, who hadn’t scored in his last five game, finally scored again and eight minute after that goal Mendoza added one to his account.

Football is a sport where you have to finish your chances as it are the goals that count and not the chances. Brugge understood this and used it this evening. After 17 minutes Englebert opened the score with a half volley on Aghahowa’s cross. A few bit later Standard were level again as the referee awarded a penalty for a foul from Van der Heyden on Cavens. Cavens stepped up and converted the penalty to make it one all. Standard was the better team but all of their shots went over the bar, or otherwise were stopped by Butina. In the second half Brugge had their second chance, and second goal, of the game when Ceh centred the ball. Casas hitted a fierce left footed strike and it went in. In the last five games Casas didn’t score and his manager hopes that he will score again now. Eight minutes later Ceh played a lovely ball for the unmarked Mendoza. He rounded the keeper and finished off Brugge’s third chance of the game. So you see, sometimes it’s enough to have three or four chances in a game.

Final score: Standard 1 – Club Brugge 3

Scoreline: Englebert 17 min 0-1; Cavens pen 34 min 1-1; Casas 67 min 1-2; Mendoza 75 min 1-3

Attendance: 25175

Bookings: Turaci; Van der Heyden (misses next match), Aghahowa

Player ratings: Butina 5, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 6, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 6, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 8, Mendoza 8, Ceh 8

Antwerp and Germinal Beerschot didn’t found the way to the goal as the game ended in a scoreless draw while Genk beated Charleroi with 4-1. La Louvière lost at home against Roeselare with 0-2 while Lokeren -Beveren ended two all. Sint-Truiden have won again after 12 games without a win. They won against Anderlecht with 2-0 while Lierse won in and against Westerlo with 0-1.

Sunday 14th November:

Oostende managed to defeat Cercle Brugge in their own stadion with 1-2.

Sunday 21st November:

A gap of class.

Brugge have qualified for the next round of the Belgian Cup after they easily dispossed third division side Seraing. Mendoza opened the score for Brugge in the first half. Two minutes of the second half he made it two. Twelve minutes before the end of the game Lo Bello pulled one back for Seraing but Casas goal in injury time cliched it for Brugge.

As everyone thought Brugge controlled the game and they took the lead in the 21st minute when Casas crossed the ball for Mendoza. He scored with a diving header to give his team a one goal lead. That score last until the second minute of the second half as once again it was Casas who crossed the ball and Mendoza who scored again. Mendoza is really playing superbly and the question is, how long will it take before a club comes knocking on the door for his services. Butina was surprised when Lo Bello scored a goal in the 78th minute. Brugge didn’t feared a thing as they just went on with controlling the game. Casas’s perfect evening was crowned with a goal in injury time as he headed in Ceh’s corner. So even in the Belgian Cup everything is going well for Brugge.

Final score: Seraing RUL 1 – Club Brugge 3

Scoreline: Mendoza 21 min 0-1; Mendoza 47 min 0-2; Lo Bello 78 min 1-2; Casas 90+2 min 1-3

Attendance: 10517

Bookings: Vandenbroucke

Player ratings: Butina 7, Diogo 7, Gvozdenovic 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 6, Aghahowa 8, Englebert 8, Kallstrom 7, Casas 9, Mendoza 6, Ceh 8

Tuesday 23rd November:

The draw for the 7th round of the Belgium Cup was today. In the next round we play at home against first division side Lokeren.

Wednesday 24th November:

It’s the new boy.

Brugge have won their 12th game in the First division. At home against Lokeren, they were never in danger as they dominated the game. New boy Casas was choosen as the man of the match after he scored a brace. Ceh is playing in Björn Noppe’s good books as he played another great game on the left wing.

When the game started everyone thought that Lokeren would beat Brugge as they started very furious and they had the first two chances of the game. Like against all the other teams Butina played once again superb and held his team up the first ten minutes. After that Brugge took the game in their hands and controlled it until the end. In the 21st minute Casas opened the score after a superb pass from Ceh. Two minutes into the second half he doubled his tally as he finished off Lange’s nice pass. Lange started the game as Mendoza was in need for a rest after such a brilliant display week after week. It looks like the First division is already played and all the other teams can start fighting for the second spot.

Final score: Club Brugge 2 – Lokeren 0

Scoreline: Casas 21 min 1-0; Casas 47 min 2-0

Attendance: 16082

Bookings: De Geest

Player ratings: Butina 7, Diogo 7, Gvozdenovic 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 5, Aghahowa 8, Englebert 7 (Vandendriessche 79 min 7), Kallstrom 8, Casas 9, Lange 7 (Saeternes 79 min 7), Ceh 9

Anderlecht won against La Louvière with 2-0 while Beveren easily beated Westerlo with four against one. Charleroi lost at home against AA Gent with 1-3 while Germinal Beerschot and Standard couldn’t score. Lierse humiliated Sint-Truiden as they trashed them with 4-0. Mouscron – Cercle Brugge ended 3-0 while Oostende managed to get a 3-3 draw against Antwerp. Roeselare lost at home with 1-3 against Genk.

Saturday 27th November:

So it is possible to win against them.

For the first time this season Brugge lost in the competition as Westerlo inspired by De Langhe and Dosunmu managed to defeat them. Aghahowa made the score level again before Westerlo scored their second goal of the evening. So Brugge lose and this is just before their game with AC Milan in the Champions Cup.

It’s a good thing for the competition that Westerlo beated Brugge this evening. Brugge lost Lange very soon in the game and he was replaced by Stoica. Stoica changed position with Aghahowa so that the Nigerian was playing upfront for the first time this season. De Langhe opened the score in the first half for Westerlo but it last only five minutes as Aghahowa equalised in two times. Westerlo managed to fight on and believed in their chances when Dosunmu scored a nice goal in the 55th minute. It remains to see if the other teams have taken profit of this loss.

Final score: Westerlo 2 – Club Brugge 1

Scoreline: De Langhe 34 min 1-0; Aghahowa 39 min 1-1; Dosunmu 55 min 2-1

Attendance: 9980

Bookings: Haraldsen, Delen; Diogo (misses next match), Englebert (misses next match)

Player ratings: Butina 5, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 6, Lange 5 (Stoica 10 min 7), Ceh 7

After the game I received more bad news as Casas and Lange are both out for two weeks with injuries. Talking about a bad day.

AA Gent0 and Roeselare couldn’t score as the game ended like it started while Genk defeated La Louvière with 1-0. Lierse won against Anderlecht with a small 1-0 while Sint-Truiden lost at home against Beveren with 0-2. Oostende lost after nine games without a defeat against Standard with 3-1.

Sunday 28th November:

Cercle Brugge defeated Charleroi with a nice 2-0 while Lokeren – Germinal Beerschot ended two all. The last game of the 13th playday was between Antwerp and Mouscron. The final score was 0-0.

Barcelona have signed Valencia’s David Albelda for a fee of €11,5M. Manager Frank Rijkaard hopes that he can turn the things around for his club.

A flashback?

This evening there was Champions Cup football again and Brugge had to travel to San Siro to play against Milan. Just like last year Brugge managed to get away with a draw from Giuseppe Meazza. They have only one person to thank for that result and that is Tomislav Butina. He stopped a total of 10 shots and came out as the man of the match. Brugge almost win but Ceh couldn’t overcome his nerves as he missed the penalty.

It was a real shooting practice for Milan as they dominated the game most of the times. First half chances of Kaka and Shevchenko were saved by Butina and Brugge even created two chances in the first half but both Englebert and Mendoza were stopped by Dida. With a half hour gone Brugge had to replace Saeternes as he was injured. Stoica replaced him. In the second half Milan pushed forward even more and it couldn’t last long before they would score but a really superb performances of Butina prevented Milan from scoring. Milan almost lost the game when Laursen used his hands to prevent Mendoza from heading towards goal. Referee, Michael Weiner, saw this and awarded a penalty. Just like always Ceh stepped up to give his team the lead but Dida choose the right corner as he saved the penalty. A slot offensive from Milan didn’t help them as the game ended 0-0.

Final score: AC Milan 0 - Club Brugge 0

Attendance: 58897

Bookings: Van der Heyden

Player ratings: Butina 9, Diogo 6, Van der Heyden 5, Clement © 6, De Cock 7, Verheyen 6, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Saeternes 5 (Stoica 29 min 7), Mendoza 7, Ceh 6

Rangers Champions Cup campagne is over as they lost with 1-2 at home against Real Madrid. Zidane scored the first goal nine minutes before the end of the first half but Lovenkrands equalised on half-time. In the second half Portillo scored to give the Spanish side a 1-2 win.

More news today as Betis won’t be happy to see Denilson, one of their starplayers, being injured for 5 months. The injury came in the Champions Cup match against Partizan.

Friday 3rd December:

Mouscron – Standard was the first game of the 14th playday. Although both teams wanted to win the game, the final result was 0-0.

Saturday 4th December:

Beveren managed to keep the three points at home against Lierse as they won the game with 2-1 while Charleroi fought to get a convincing 4-1 win against Antwerp. Germinal Beerschot won with 3-0 against Westerlo and La Louvière lost at home against AA Gent with 2-3.

Sunday 5th December:

This afternoon Oostende defeated Lokeren with 3-2 while Roeselare lost again at home against Cercle Brugge with 0-1. At six o’ clock we had a game to play.

From revelation to canditate for relegation.

Club Brugge easily overcame last season’s revelation Sint-Truiden. Sint-Truiden are currently in last position and if they continue to play like this then they should be happy with second division football next year. Mendoza scored a brace in the first half and just before the end of that same half Aghahowa made it 3-0. A boring second half saw one great highlight as Kallstrom scored with a nice freekick.

If this game was going to be played last year, you knew that it could be exciting, but this year Sint-Truiden are in a bad form and they were easily putted away by champions Club Brugge. When the 27th minute came Clement played a great long ball for Mendoza and the Peruvian striker finished it off as he rounded the keeper. Three minutes before the end of the first half Mendoza scored his 20th goal of the season as he hitted a left footed volley into the topcorner when Ceh centred the ball. Just when everyone thought the first half came to an end Aghahowa made it three nill as Verheyen played a nice trough ball. A boring second half saw some chances of Sint-Truiden and one more goal from Brugge. Kallstrom scored a nice freekick as he bended the ball like Beckham, over the wall into the net.

Final score: Club Brugge 4 – Sint-Truiden 0

Scoreline: Mendoza 27 min 1-0; Mendoza 42 min 2-0; Aghahowa 45 min 3-0; Källström 82 min 4-0

Attendance: 14342

Bookings: Maertens; Dello

There was one game that had to be played after our game and it was planned for this evening. Anderlecht lost at home with 1-2 against second placed Genk

Friday 10th December:

Lierse help Brugge.

This evening Lierse helped Brugge a bit as they scored the first goal in Brugge’s 1-2 win over them. Wils doesn’t score much but when he does, like this evening, he scores against his own team. Mendoza added another one three minutes later and Hegelmeer’s goal looked nothing else then a consolation goal.

You can’t say that Lierse didn’t try as they created some good chances trough the game, but you know who stopped them? Right, Butina. After 28 minutes Wils was unlucky as he score an own goal to give Brugge the lead. Three minutes later Mendoza scored after a superb pass from Aghahowa to make it 0-2. From then on both teams had some chances with the best one’s being for Brugge but Mardulier prevented a slaughtering. Lierse tried to score but they had to wait until the 93rd minute to get their goal. It was Hegelmeers who scored after a long throw-in from De Wilde.

Final score: Lierse 1 – Club Brugge 2

Scoreline: Wils 28 min (own goal) 0-1; Mendoza 31 min 0-2; Hegelmeers 90+3 min 1-2

Attendance: 14508

Bookings: Verheyen

Also today it was time to play the Inter-Continental Cup as Lazio played against Boca. It was the Italian club who won the cup thanks to two goals from Inzaghi.

Cheers Brammeke, Nice to see you support the blue army to icon14.gif

Monday 13th October:

Real Madrid have signed two new players today. The first one is Inter’s Killy Gonzalez. They paid €24,5M for the Argentinian left winger. About the second player they bought I will give a little bit of history lesson as he is an old familiar to the club.

Who is Timmy Simons?

Timmy Simons is a Belgian defender/defensive midfielder who can play central or on the right hand side of the pitch. He started his career at Diest. He stayed there for two season until he moved to Lommel, who were a first division side at that time. In his first season at the highest level he played 32 games and scored his first ever goal. The season after that he played even better as he scored four times in 32 games. In 2000-2001 he made his big move to Club Brugge, who were vice-champions at that time. In his first season with “the blue army†he played 34 games and managed to score twice.Timmy kept improving as in season 2001-2002 he score three times in 34 games and became vice-champions with Brugge. His third season was one of the best he ever played as he managed to score six times in 34 games and became once again vice-champions with Brugge. Several sub-top clubs and even bigger teams like Man Utd, Juventus and AC Milan came knocking on the door for his services. Simons decided that he wanted to stay at Brugge for a while but in the winter-break of season 2003-2004 he moved to Spanish side Deportivo for a whooping €10M. And still he kept improving as he scored five times in 39 appearences and three substitute appearnces spread over two seasons. Now he moves again a step higher as he signed a 46,000/week contract at Real Madrid. I hope that he can live up to the expectations and that he doesn’t dye away in the “B†team.

Timmy is and always been a calm nice person who wouldn’t hurt a fly. At his age of 28 he still can learn a lot and he will learn a lot if they give him a chance. Maybe one day we will meet again.

Career Stats of Timmy Simons:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1996-1198 Diest appearences unknown.

1998-2000 Lommel 64 appearences, 5 goals

2000-2004 winterbreak Club Brugge 128 appearences, 14 goals

2004 winterbreak-2005 winterbreak Deportivo 39 (3) appearences, 5 goals

Tuesday 14th December:

â€Second round here we comeâ€

Club Brugge have surprised the football world as they qualified for the next round of the Champions Cup. A convincing 3-1 win against the Rangers was enough to qualify and if Milan wins against Real Madrid, then Brugge are groupswinners. Casas opened the score for Brugge and Mendoza scored a brace in two minutes time. Just like the game in Scotland Rangers pulled one back in injury time trough MacLean.

Everyone thought that Brugge would win this game after they easily won in Scotland against the Gers, but still every game has to be played. In the first half both teams had some chances. Brugge trough Mendoza and Casas and Rangers trough Lovenkrands, Wright-Phillips and de Boer. But Klos and Butina kept the game excited. In the second half Brugge pushed more forward and they found the first goal in the 64th minute trough Casas. Ten minutes later Mendoza dribbles round the keeper before he slots the ball home. Another minute later he dribbled past Ball and Ricksen before he blasted the ball in low. Rangers were defeated but still they wanted one goal for their fans and they found it in the 93rd minute trough MacLean.

Final score: Club Brugge 3 - Rangers 1 icon_razz.gif

Scoreline: Casas 64 min 1-0; Mendoza 74 min 2-0; Mendoza 75 min 3-0; MacLean 90+3 min 3-1

Attendance: 29973 (new record)

Bookings: Moore

Player ratings: Butina 7, Diogo 8, Gvozdenovic 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Verheyen 6 (Stoica 45 min 7), Englebert 8, Kallstrom 7, Casas 8, Mendoza 9, Ceh 8

And now the result from Bernabéu. If Milan win Brugge go top, if Real Madrid win Brugge are second. And it’s AC Milan who have won the game thanks to a 38th minute goal from Kaka. We are groupwinners. What a shock, I didn’t even dream about this.

Geneve, 15 o’clock:

Live draw for the second round of the Champions Cup.

Just like last year me and my assistant, Rene Verheyen, were sitting here in Geneve. To hear some words from Sepp Blatter before he started the draw.

Sepp Blatter: Lady’s and gentlemen, managers and assistant managers welcome in Geneve for the live draw of the second round of the Champions Cup. But first we will have a review of the Group Phases, and we’re starting with ….

Group A:

Personnaly I found Group A a nice group. But I’m a bit surprised with the standings. Man Utd ended on top like everyone expected. The “Red Devils†collected 14 points, which is five more then second placed Monaco. The French team did very well in this group and they should be proud that they qualified for the next round. Partizan ended on the third position so they will play Uefa Cup football after the winter break. They collected one point more the Spanish side Betis, who are left with nothing. I’m really surprised that they didn’t finished any higher.

Group B:

In Group B we have a very clear view about who ruled the Group as Juventus ended on top with 14 points. Juve only conceeded two goals in the group matches and they had six points more then second placed Sparta Prague. The team from the Czech Republic collected eight points just like Benfica but a better G.D. and better results between the two teams sended Sparta trough. Benfica will go to the Uefa Cup while Olympiakos are left with nothing.

Group C:

This was one of the nicest Groups of them all but there were a lot of surprises here. The roupswinners here are Club Brugge from Belgium. Congrats guys. The Belgian Champions earned 11 points. Mendoza is one of the reasons of their succes as he scored six times so far and is placed on the 4th place in the list of the topgoalscorer. In second position came AC Milan with 10 points. Milan are qualified because they won two times against third placed Real Madrid, who also had 10 points. The Spanish giant won’t be happy with Uefa Cup football I think. In last position came Rangers with 3 points, which they took against Milan in San Siro.

Group D:

Liverpool ended in first position here as they collected 13 points. Liverpool have a G.D. of +7 which is really good. In second position and also qualified came FC Bayern. The German club earned 9 points in this group which is only one more then third placed Besiktas. The club from Turkey will progress to the Uefa Cup. For the second time in two years PSV are left with nothing as they only collected 3 points.

Group E:

It was quite a surprise to see Dinamo Kiev ending on top in this group. They collected 16 points and managed to win at home against Lazio and in Olimpico they won also. They didn’t lost any of their away games. Lazio qualified on the last playday in this group which isn’t what they expected. They earned 7 points which is two more then third placed Maribor who will go to the Uefa Cup. In last position came Real Sociedad, who qualified for the second round last year. Now they have to be happy with nothing.

Group F:

Inter Milan easily won this group as they collected 15 points and won all of their home games. They have six points more then second placed Ajax. Last year they reached the Quarter finals and now they can do the same or even better. They will count on Wesley Sonck, who scored 7 times so far in the Champions Cup. In third place we have VFB Stuttgart who ended a place higher then last year. Anderlecht earned only 6 points and were left with nothing. Although Seol have left a good impression as he scored five times in the Champions Cup this season.

Group G:

Last year losing Semi-finalist Chelsea ended on top of their group with 15 points. They almost had 18 but they lost on the last playday against second placed PAO. The club from Greece collected 9 points which was the same as third placed Dortmund. The German team will have to be happy with Uefa Cup football for the rest of the season. Last placed Dinamo can relax as they are out of everything as they only collected 3 points.

Group H:

In this last group we have the current top goalscorer. And he is playing with first placed Arsenal. His name is Thierry Henry an he has scored nine times so far. Arsenal collected 16 points which is six more then second placed Porto. Last year they ended in third position and now they do even better. In third position we have french team Lyon, who collected 7 points in this group. They will go to the Uefa Cup, something that M. Haifa can’t say as they only collected 1 point and ended in fourth position.

Sepp Blatter: Now that the review is over we can start with the draw for the second round.

And the first team that comes out is Czech Republic’s Sparta Prague. They qualified in Group B which wasn’t very easy. Now in the second round they will face Premier League team Man Utd. If I may give one hint to Sparta, I would say mark Van Nistelrooy as he scored eight times so far in the Champions Cup.

The second draw excists out of Club Brugge. They lost last year in this round and they will try to do better against FC Bayern which isn’t very obviuos. I wish both teams the best of luck and Bayern better watch out as Brugge have a good home reputation.

The next draw will see Liverpool playing the first game at home and they will try to beat Italian side AC Milan. This looks like a very nice draw and I wouldn’t dare to say who will come out as winner.

Monaco are the first team that comes out in the fourth draw. The French side are verry happy to get so far in the Champions Cup and now they will try to progress even further. But if you ask Juventus’ opinion they say that the French team is out and they will have to wait until next year.

The fifth draw is between Dutch side Ajax who came in second position in their group and they will try to knock out Dinamo Kiev in the second round. Dinamo Kiev played a superb round as they beated last-years winners two times, so Ajax are warned.

The sixth draw will see Porto at home in the first leg. And they will welcome English’s Champions Chelsea to their stadion. Let’s see who will come out as winner in this game. Chelsea’s millions or Porto’s work rate.

The 13th team coming out of the draw is Greece’s PAO. It really is a nice achievement that they qualified for the second round but I think that this will be their final round as they meet Arsenal. Arsenal lost last year in this round and they will try to do better then last year.

The last draw consists out of Champions Cup holder Lazio, at home, against Serie A side Inter Milan. I don’t think they will need to scout much as they know each other very well from the Serie A. This will be a nice game to watch.

Sepp Blatter: I wish all of the teams good luck and I will see eight of you guy’s back here for the draw of the Quarter Finals.

Well tbh I did beat them, I did it even two times icon_razz.gifYour comment on Bayern says enough PM

I think we will be out of the Champions Cup in this round as FC Bayern reached the semi final last year. I will do my scouting brief a week before the first clash with them.

Friday 17th December:

Germinal Beerschot easily won against Lierse with 3-0.This was the first fixture of the 16th playday.

Saturday 18th December:

Brugge full of confident.

If you saw Brugge’s way of playing this evening, you saw that they were full of confident as they dared anything. Casas opened the score for his club and three minutes later Lange, who started in Mendoza’s place, made it two. Just before the end of the first half Yaya helped Brugge a bit with an own-goal. In the second half Clement scored his first goal for Brugge under new manager Björn Noppe, to make the humiliation complete.

Game after game Brugge keep improving as they march on in the First Division. Brugge always seem to wait a while before they push in the gaspedal. In the 29th minute Casas scored after he picked up Ceh’s nice pass. Three minutes later Lange doubled their lead with a nice goal. The assist came from Aghahowa. A minute before the end of the first half Yaya wants to head a ball over his goal, but he was under pressure and he headed the ball into his own net. In the second half Brugge shifted down a gear or two and let Beveren control the game. But the fourth goal of the game came from Clement as he headed in Kallstrom’s corner, at the first post. If Brugge don’t get a bad form, then the competition is already played.

Final score: Club Brugge 4 – Beveren 0

Scoreline: Casas 29 min 1-0; Lange 32 min 2-0; Yaya own-goal 44 min 3-0; Clement 75 min 4-0

Attendance: 14874

Bookings: De Cock

In the other games Anderlecht lost at home against AA Gent with 0-1 while Lokeren won in and against Charleroi with 0-2. Genk beated Cercle Brugge with 2-0 while La Louvière - Antwerp ended 1-1. In the last game Mouscron lost at home against Westerlo with 0-2.

Sunday 19th december:

Chelsea’s Frank Lampard moved to Celta this evening in a deal worth €8,25M. The English midfielder didn’t play much at Stamford Bridge and hopes he can get in the International squad by impressing manager Steve McClaren with his performances in Spain.

Oostende defeated Sint-Truiden with 3-0 while Roeselare couldn’t score against Standard. The final result was 0-0.

Wednesday 22th December:

Easy Cup victory at Jan Breydelstadion.

Brugge continued their good form this evening as they easily qualified for the Quarter Final of the Belgian Cup. Their opponents Lokeren were easily out played. In the first half Aghahowa scored his fifth goal of the season and right from the kick-off in the second half Casas made it two for his club. When Zéré was sent off twelve minutes later, Brugge could sit back and relax.

Lokeren, who are on the 13th place in the competition weren’t real opponents for Brugge in the seventh round. It looked like Brugge was playing against a third division club, as they were over classed and out played. In the 24th minute Mendoza had the ball on the left wing when he spotted the run of Aghahowa. The ball flew into the area and the Nigerian midfielder gave his team the lead. It could have been two-nill before the rest but Mendoza was denied by the post. From the kick-off in the second half Mendoza played the ball up to Casas, who rounded Milojevic, before he slotted the ball home. Twelve minutes later Mendoza was clean trough behind the defence but Zéré, a 34 year old defender, tackled him from behind and the man in black pulled out a red card. From then on Brugge started to relax but they could have scored more if they wanted. Casas had a great chance but he was also denied by the post. And so the game ended in an easy victory for the Champions.

Final score: Club Brugge 2 – Lokeren 0

Scoreline: Aghahowa 24 min 1-0; Casas 46 min 2-0

Attendance: 14425

Bookings: P. Van der Heyden; K. Van der Heyden, Conté

Friday 24th December:

I was informed by my assistant manager that the draw for the Quarter Final of the Belgian Cup was today. He told me that we would face Germinal Beerschot there. The first leg is played at Kiel on 26th January 2005 and two weeks later they will visit our stadion. The winterbreak also started today so we were free until the 21st January 2005.

League round-up on 30th December 2004:

Belgium:

After 16 games in the Jupiler League of Belgium, there is one team standing way out above the rest. Club Brugge have dominated the Competition from the start so far as they only lost one game and one game ended square. In the other fourteen games Brugge dominated and won the games. The closest follower, Racing Genk are 11 points behind and they have on their turn four points more then third placed Standard. In fourth place we have newly promoted Oostende, who surprised friend and enemy with the way they are playing. They have one point more then fifth placed Anderlecht, who started the competition very well but are now falling behind because of their own fault. At the bottom of the league we have Sint-Truiden. â€The kanaries†were the big revelation last year, but can’t find their form this year. Everyone is waiting to see how long it will take before manager Jacky Mathijssen is workless. Charleroi have the same ammount of points like Sint-Truiden, but for them, everyone knew it would be a hard and long season.

England:

In the English Premiership there are two teams leading so far. Man Utd and Arsenal have 45 points both after twenty games. They have a six point lead over third placed Chelsea, who won the Competition last year. Everyone is waiting to see how long it will take Les Bleus before they can challenge the leaders. West Ham are currently in 20th position with 12 points out of a possible 60. Manager Alan Pardew, knew it would be hard to stay up after their promotion last season from the First Division. In 19th place we have W.B.A., who have one point less then 17th placed Leicester. Last year they ended on the 14th place and the fans thought that they could do better this season, but that isn’t true so far. All these three teams need are just a couple of wins to get them on the right track again.

Italy:

In the Serie A it is Inter Milan, who are leading as they are seven points clear of last year’s Champions Juventus. Also AC Milan and Lazio Roma have 37 points out of a possible 54. It’s going to be a close battle for the tittle if Inter Milan lose two or three times in the “second†round. The teams that are in the relegation zone are Atlanta, on 20th place, Napoli, on 19th place and Piacenza is the best placed of all the relegation candidates. Andrea Mandorlini’s men of Atlanta have only nine points and it won’t take long before a new manager is being appointed there.

Spain:

La Liga is totally controlled by Real Madrid, who haven something to make good with their fans. They have an eight point lead on Celta and nine points on Betis. Every team is trying their best to win against the star team but Ronalod and Raul are scoring with their eyes closed. Barcelona is in a dissappointing 8th place and there’s a lot of pressure on manager Frank Rijkaard. The teams that are currently in a relegation spot are Tenerife, Rayo and Mallorca. It’s going to be a race against the clock to see who of those teams can avoid the drop.

30th December:

Several players over the whole world knew that their contract would end in six months. I offered contracts to a lot of other players and I hoped that some of them would like to join my squad. For my team I knew that Mendoza’s contract was going to expire. I offered him a new contract although he wasn’t intrested in one. Other clubs like Anderlecht, AA Gent also offered him a contract.

Past Winners: Gianluigi Buffon – Juventus - 2004

European Defender of the Year:

One of the biggest reasons for Juvetus’ succes is the winner of this award as Gianluca Zambrotta is playing great season after season. He held of PSV’s Kevin Hofland and last year’s winner Alessandro Nesta, who is playing for AC Milan.

Past Winners: Alessandro Nesta – AC Milan - 2004

European Midfielder of the Year:

European Striker of the Year:

This was a very well deserved award for Arsenal’s Thierry Henry (15 goals/25 app this season) as he played great last season and also this season. He ended before Liverpool’s El-Hadji Diouf (12/25) and he received more votes then Alessandro Del Piero, (11/21) who is scoring goals for Juventus.

Past Winners: Jan Koller – Dortmund - 2004

Also today Alin Stoica moved from our team to West Ham United in a deal worth €1M.

9(15) app, 0 goals, 1 assist, 0 MoM, and an average rating of 6.92

I hope for Alin that he will play some games in England and I wish him the best of luck.

More transfer news today as Liverpool have signed midfielder Martin Andresen for a fee of €8,5M. Martin moved to Mallorca in 2003-2004 after he made a great start to the season with his former club Stabaek. He played one season and a half in Spain before he was signed by Liverpool today.

Today I received a phone-call from Bizzarri’s agent as he told me that his client accepted our contract offer and that he would join our club on Friday 1st July 2005. One of the biggest reason why he joined our club was that he wanted to prove himself in Europe and he wouldn’t do that with his current team Valladolid. I was very happy to have signed this goalkeeper.

There was also some bad news as Mendoza accepted Anderlecht’s contract offer. He said that it is a blessing to be finally leaving Club Brugge. I’m mad at Anderlecht, but I will still use Mendoza this season.

Sunday 9th January:

Liverpool’s Emile Heskey has joined FC Bayern on loan until the end of the season. This is another player who will try to get us out of the Ch. Cup.

Friday 14th January:

Peter Ballett has been sacked by Heusden-Zolder today. Last year his team relegated from the top flight and this year Heusden are in last position in division two. The chairman couldn’t laugh with this and sacked his manager.

Sunday 16th January:

Just to say how sweet revenge is I heard the pleasant news today that Anderlecht’s Vincent Kompany accepted my contract offer. He rejected offers from Everton and Roma to join our club. He is an 18 year old defender and one of the greatest talents Belgium has ever known.

Wednesday 19th January:

Chelsea have signed defender Wes Brown. His former club, Man Utd received €4,4M for their player.

Thursday 20th January:

Eric van Kessel was appointed as the new manager of Heusden-Zolder today.

Friday 21st January:

Another sweet revenge.

This evening Brugge have taken another sweet revenge against rivals Anderlecht as they trashed them with 1-3 on their own pitch. It was Englebert who opened the score and on the half hour mark Kallstrom doubled the lead. Seol pulled one back for “the mauves†but in the second half Brugge kept controlling and dominating. When Casas added a goal to his account the game was certainly over, but Brugge had the chance to score again as Ceh missed a penalty.

Everyone knew that this was a game that Brugge certainly wanted to win especially after the “Mendoza-affairâ€. Brugge got off to a good start when midfielder Englebert opened the score after Casas’ nice pass. Anderlecht fought back and had some nice chances too but Butina prevented everyone from scoring. When the fans had seen 30 minutes of football they saw another goal as Mendoza crossed a nice ball to Kallstrom, who was just out of the area, and he finished it off with a powerful effort. Eight minutes after that Seol pulled one back for Anderlecht to give them a way back into the game. But Brugge were full of confident in the second half and when Casas scored his goal the game was over. Ceh had the chance to make it 1-4 from the spot but he blazed the ball over the bar and so they left with 1-3 and another sweet revenge icon_biggrin.gif

Final score: Anderlecht 1 – Club Brugge 3

Sunday 23rd January:

Cercle Brugge easily disposed AA Gent with 3-0 to complete the 17th playday.

Anderlecht manager Hugo Broos is unemployed as of today as he was sacked by the chairman. Anderlecht are currently in a dissappointing 5th position.

Wednesday 26th January:

Liverpool have signed worldclass midfielder Claude Makélélé from Chelsea. It’s rumoured that they’ve splashed out €9,75M for the French player.

Cup defeat for Brugge.

In the quarter finals of the Belgian Cup, Club Brugge lost on the pitch of Germinal Beerschot. The first half saw two beautiful goals. One from GBA’s Agyeman and one from Brugge’s Casas. In the second half Asubonteng scored his first goal for GBA to give them a 2-1 lead for the second leg.

The game started slowly as both teams were looking afraid to push forward. In the 19th minute Agyeman opened the score for the home team with a nice chip over Butina. Brugge got their equaliser thanks to a great goal from Casas. He stole the ball from Van Dooren before he dribbled past Hoefkens and smashed it into the bottom right corner. The game was level again and although both teams had several chances neither of them could score until eight minutes from the end when Asubonteng scored his first goal this season for GBA. It was a nice and deserved win for the home team, but will it be enough for the return?

Final score: Germinal Beerschot 2 – Club Brugge 1

Scoreline: Agyeman 19 min 1-0; Casas 32 min 1-1; Asubonteng 82 min 2-1

Attendance: 12357

There was also first division football this evening as Antwerp easily defeated AA Gent with 3-0 while Beveren did the same against Oostende. Lokeren scored three times against La Louvière, who scored twice. Sint-Truiden - Charleroi ended one all while Standard won against Genk with 3-2. The last game this evening ended in a 2-2 draw between Westerlo and Roeselare.

Sunday 30th January:

Today Sint-Truiden chairman Leo Schepers sacked manager Jacky Mathijssen as he failed to get his team out of the relegation zone. Last year he was one of the best managers, now he isn’t even a manager.

In other news today, Chelsea brought in FC Bayern’s Jens Jeremies. The English billionaire team paid €11M for the worldclass defensive midfielder. They didn’t stop spending their money as they also brought in FC Bayern’s Roy Makaay. The German club received €16,75M for their cultured striker.

And there was more transfer news today as AC Milan have paid €22,5M plus Massimo Ambrosini for Arsenal’s flamboyant winger Robert Pires.

Two players decide the game.

On the 18th playday Brugge easily defeated Oostende. Two players were in great form as both goals from Casas were set up by Verheyen, who started the game because Aghahowa was away with his national team. Both goals came in the first half but there could have been more if it wasn’t for keeper Willequet.

Casas is surely a quality striker and he’s proven this once more. When the 14th minute came he scored his first goal as he headed in Verheyen’s nice cross. Oostende were totally blown away as they didn’t managed one shot on target. Just before the end of the first half Verheyen passed the ball to Casas. He controlled the ball before he curled it into the top corner from out of the area. In the second half Brugge had enough chances to score more but Oostende goalkeeper Willequet prevented his team from being humiliated. With the league just being over the half, it’s almost certain that Brugge will take the First Division tittle once again.

Final score: Oostende 0 – Club Brugge 2

Scoreline: Casas 14 min 0-1; Casas 45 min 0-2

Monday 31st January:

Sint-Truiden have appointed my assistant manager Chris Van Puyvelde as their new manager. Luckily I have another assistant manager at the club but I will look for another one if possible.

When the evening came I had already two new assistant managers appointed. The first one was Maurizio Costanzi an Italian and the other one was a Belgian named Serge Van Den Plas.

Wednesday 2nd February:

Five goal thriller at Jan Breydelstadion

This evening 17305 fans saw an entertaining five goal game at Jan Breydelstadion. After 10 minutes there were already three goals as Casas opened the score for Brugge before Victor equalised from the spot. Seven minutes after that Kallstrom scored a nice goal from 30 yards out. From then on the game slowed down and the last two goals came in the last three minutes as first Englebert scored to make it three-one and two minutes later Snelders scored a consolation goal.

The game got off to a stormer as Casas scored in the first minute with a nice chip. Two minutes later Victor equalised from the spot after the man in black awarded a penalty. Kallstrom restored Brugge’s one goal lead with a magnificent 30 yard strike. From then on the game went into first gear and the fans had to wait a while to see some entertaining. Three minutes before the end of the game Englebert made it 3-1 but GBA fought back on 89 when Snelders scored a consolation goal. One thing is for sure GBA has and will be a difficult task for Brugge every time.

Final score: Club Brugge 3 – Germinal Beerschot 2

Scoreline: Casas 1 min 1-0; Victor pen 3 min 1-1; Kallstrom 10 min 2-1; Englebert 87 min 3-1; Snelders 89 min 3-2

And here are the results from the other games this evening. La Louvière crunched Westerlo with 6-1 while Lierse defeated Mouscron with 2-0. My former assistant manager is doing a nice job as he leaded Sint-Truiden to a 2-5 win in Roeselare.

Friday 4th February:

Anderlecht easily beated Antwerp with 3-0 this evening.

Saturday 5th February:

Close win for the champions.

Despite controlling the game from start to finish Brugge managed only a 1-0 win over Mouscron. It was Casas who scored for the eight game in a row. His partner upfront hasn’t scored in the last five games and didn’t score in this game also.

Brugge controlled the game from start to finish but thanks to great work from Mouscron ‘keeper Vandendriesschie Brugge could only score once. In the 28th minute Kallstrom set up Casas with a nice pass and he blasted it past the keeper. The Argetinian striker is in sensational form as this was the eight time in a row that he found the way to the goal. The next game for Brugge is at home in the Belgian Cup.

Final score: Club Brugge 1 – Mouscron 0

Scoreline: Casas 28 min 1-0

Attendance: 16857

Wednesday 9th February:

Brugge stroll trough.

In the second leg of the Belgian Cup Quarter finals Brugge managed to go trough on away goals. One goal from Casas was more then enough to seal the faith of GBA. It was very obvius that Brugge wasn’t in their best day as from their 20 chances that they created they only managed 8 on target.

One thing was sure before Brugge started this game, they needed to score at least once. Aghahowa started upfront as Mendoza was on the bench and Verheyen in midfield. Brugge had some nice chances in the early stage of the game but Verbist was keeping it all out, until the 22nd minute. Ceh had the ball on the left wing and he crossed it to the far post, Casas was waiting there and he headed the ball in very simple. Brugge pushed for more to be certain of their qualification but they always find Verbist in goal. But Brugge were never in danger as Germinal Beerschot didn’t creat a single chance.

Final score: Club Brugge 1 (2) a – Germinal Beerschot 0 (2)

Scoreline: Casas 22 min 1-0

Attendance: 23790

The draw for the Belgian Cup Semi Final was today. We would play at home against Kapellen in the first leg. In the second leg we will visit the third division club.

Saturday 12th February:

Last placed Charleroi difficult opponent for League leaders.

Charleroi got away from their own stadium with a 1-1 draw against the league leaders Club Brugge. Di Gregorio opened the score for the home team in the first half and they even had chances to make it two. In the second half Brugge had the best chances and they found their equaliser trough Mendoza.

Charleroi had the best chances of the first half and were awarded for their play in the 41st minute when Gregorio opened the score for “de zebra’sâ€. They could have made it two nil before the end of the first half but Butina was placed well on Gregorio’s shot. Brugge got furiuos out of the dressingrooms and it was Mendoza who scored the equaliser. In the second half Brugge had the chances to take the lead but in the end both teams got away with a deserved point.

Friday 18th February:

Parma appointed Giovanni Vavassori as their new manager today. He will have the difficult task to lead his team back to a high mid-table position in the reamaining of the season.

Saturday 19th February:

Brugge win the game in the dying minutes.

Before the game everyone thought Brugge would walkover Roeselare but despite dominating the first half from start to finish the entered the dressingrooms with a goal down as Vervaeke scored an undeserved goal. In the second half Mendoza equalised and in the 91st minute Casas scored the winning goal.

The first half ws tottaly controlled by Brugge but they failed to hit the back of the net. The disaster was complete when Vervaeke scored in the 45th minute. Just like in their previous game Brugge started very furious at the second half. Mendoza scored the equaliser on 69 and Brugge pushed forward to get their winning goal. Both fans and he manager may be very thankful to Casas as he scored with a fine strike in the 91st minute. And so Brugge stay unbeaten in their own stadium, in the league.

Mouscron - Anderlecht ended two all this evening.

Saturday 26th February:

Bad preparations before Champions League game.

In their last game before the home game against FC Bayern, Brugge lost in and against la Louvière. Despite getting off to a flyer as Mendoza scored in the first game Brugge were 1-2 when the first half ended as Hiligsmann and Vervalle scored. In the second half Verheyen, who started because Aghahowa was away with his national team, equalised but six minutes later Klukowski scored the winning goal.

Brugge got off to a nice start as Mendoza scored in the first minute of the game. La Louvière fought back and scored twice before the first half ended. First Hiligsmann and then Vervalle found the back of the net. In the second half Verheyen scored the equaliser with his head but La Louvière were determined to win this game as they pushed forward. It was Klukowski who scored the third and final goal for La Louvière. The question that is going trough every Brugge fan is: Are we ready for Bayern?

Final score: La Louvière 3 – Club Brugge 2

Scoreline: Mendoza 1 min; Hiligsmann 16 min 1-1; Vervalle 34 min 2-1; Verheyen 79 min 2-2; Klukowski 3-2

Attendance: 13116

In the other game this evening Antwerp won at home against Westerlo with 3-1.

After the game Mendoza came to me to tell me that he was unhappy to be substituted in the game against La Louvière. He gave me an ultimatum as he said that he would be allowed to play entire games or he would leave. I showed him one finger before I showed him his contract that expires this season. I wrote on it that he transfers to Anderlecht at the end of the season and that was when he understood how stupid his ultimatum was.

Sunday 27th February:

Cercle Brugge lost at home against Sint-Truiden with 0-3 while Roeselare lost with the same result at home against Germinal Beerschot.

Who are FC Bayern?

We will meet FC Bayern in three days and I thought now was the time to give you my opinion about them. They are a great club who always been a dominant force in the Champions League. Last season they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and they are willing to to the same or even better this season. In the group stages They ended in second position after Liverpool and before Besiktas and PSV.

Their current topscorer in the Champions League is Claudio Pizarro as he scored three times this season. I’m very happy to see that they sold both Jeremies and Makaay to Chelsea as they were two starplayers. They even sold Deisler to them. They received €42M for these three players but the pressure is on manager Ottmar Hitzfeld now as the fans expect him to progress to the next round of the Champions League.

To be totally honest I think we have a fair chance to progress if we can pick up our great form we had in the Champions Cup. We will now the first half of the answer in three days when they visited our stadion. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

March, to progress or to fail?

Tuesday 1st March:

The board and fans were still, just like every other month, delighted with the way I’m performing.

My manager profile looked like this:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Ability to handle pressure 8 same

Ambition 11 same

Loyalty 11 2 up

Media handling 20 1 up

Professionalism 16 2 up

Temperament 16 2 up

And then it was time for the goal of the month:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1) Baseggio for Anderlecht vs. Standard

2) Imschoot for Sint-Truiden vs. AA Gent

3) De Mul for Sint-Truiden vs. Cercle Brugge

Wednesday 2nd March:

Great result for the return

This evening Club Brugge managed to get a nice win against FC Bayern. It was Casas who opened the score. Six minutes before the end of the first half Ceh made it two from the spot and gave Brugge some hope. In the second half Mendoza made it three but Bayern scored a vital goal a minute later trough Scholl.

Before the game started manager Björn told us that he believed that they had a chance to beat FC Bayern. Thirteen minutes into the game Casas scored after a nice pass from Englebert. With six minutes left in the first half Saba made a stupid foul on Casas in the area and referee, Stefano Farina, awarded us a penalty. It was Ceh who stepped up and converted the penalty. The 27000 fans in the stadium were celebrating. In the second half Brugge kept playing nice football and when Mendoza scored with a nice chip, after Englebert’s trough ball, it looked like Brugge were ready for more in Europe. But Bayern were sure to get at least that vital away goal and they got it a minute later as Mehmet Scholl scored from a freekick. The big question now is, is three – one enough for the return leg or will Bayern get some confident out of their away goal?

Final score: Club Brugge 3 - FC Bayern 1

Scoreline: Casas 13 min 1-0; Ceh pen 39 min 2-0; Mendoza 78 min 3-0; Scholl 79 min 3-1

Attendance: 27229

Bookings: Clement; Hargreaves

Player ratings: Butina 8, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 6, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 8, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 8, Mendoza 9, Ceh 7

And then there were seven other games that were finished this evening in the Champions Cup. Ajax lost heavily at home as Dinamo Kiev continue their good form with a 0-3 win in Holland. Lazio won against Inter with 1-0 while Liverpool – AC Milan ended one all. Juventus won in and against Monaco with 0-1 while PAO managed to get a draw at home against Arsenal. The final score was two all. Chelsea got away from Porto with a 1-2 win while the last game ended in a 0-2 win for Man Utd over Sparta Prague.

There was also first division football today as AA Gent beated Lierse with 4-2 while Charleroi trashed Oostende with 5-1. Mouscron - Beveren ended 3-1.

Friday 4th March:

Anderlecht managed to beat Lokeren with 2-1. I really wonder when they will appoint a new manager.

Saturday 5th March:

Another draw for Brugge in the league

In their last four games, including this one, Brugge only managed to get one win. Surely they shouldn’t fear to lose the Competition but still the fans are worrying about the recent form in the league. Against Genk they started the second half trailling one goal as Roussel found the back of the net. In the second half it was Casas, with his 25th goal of the season, who equlised.

It’s good for the league that Brugge didn’t win against second placed Genk as otherwise they would have 20 points lead. In the 44th minute Roussel opened the score with his first goal of the season for his club. Both teams had chances to score in the second half but Butina and Carini were playing great in the second half. But Brugge were determined to score at least once and they did this trough Casas. It was his 25th goal for Brugge this season, which is surely more then him and his manager expected from the Argetinian striker. With ten games left to play Brugge have 15 points more then Standard who jumped over Genk in the table.

Final score: Club Brugge 1 – Genk 1

Scoreline: Roussel 44 min 0-1; Casas 73 min 1-1

Attendance: 23235

Bookings: Gvozdenovic, Aghahowa (misses next match); Wamfor, Sigurdsson, Fadiga

Player ratings: Butina 8, Maertens 6, Gvozdenovic 7, Clement © 6, De Cock 6, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 8, Mendoza 7, Ceh 6

In the other games Beveren defeated AA Gent with 3-0 while Germinal Beerschot did the same against La Louvière. Lierse – Cercle Brugge ended two all while Mouscron beated Charleroi with 2-0. Sint-Truiden and Anwerp scored both three times while Standard won in and against Westerlo.

Sunday 6th March:

Oostende managed to beat Roeselare with 2-0, which leaves Roeselare in last position.

In other news Liverpool won the English League Cup on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Newcastle. Makélélé and Diouf put Liverpool on roses after 15 minutes but goals from Jeffers and Bellamy made things level again. In the penalty shoot-out it was Liverpool who came out as 6-7 winners.

Monday 7th March:

Former Anderlecht manager Hugo Broos was appointed as the new manager of Charleroi today. His task for the rest of the season would be to get them out of the relegation zone.

Wednesday 9th March:

There were three games today in the first division as Anderlecht won against Cercle Brugge with 2-1 while Genk demolished Beveren with heavy 6-1 results. Standard kept up their nice form with a 4-2 win against Lokeren.

Sunday 13th March:

There was a game sheduled for this evening as Roeselare managed to get a win against Mouscron. When the final whistle came the scoreboard showed a 2-0 win for the home team.

Wednesday 16th March:

Brugge make history!

This evening Brugge qualified for the Quarter Finals of the Champions Cup and because of this they are one of the eight best teams in Europe this season. At half-time it was still nil each and Bayern had the pressure om them as they needed to score. But it was Mendoza who scored the first goal of the game. Bayern pulled one back in the 79th minute from the spot. It was Riedl who converted the penalty.

This is unbelievable, Brugge confirmed their statute as sub-top club in Europe. They beated German giants FC Bayern 4-2 on aggregate score. When the first half ended Bayern managed four shots from eight on target, but they were all saved by Butina, who is unlikely one of the biggest reasons of Brugge’s succes. Brugge managed three of his four shots on target and knew that they had a real chance to qualify. In the 55th minute 615, of the 47236 fans in the Müncher Olympiastadion were celebrating as the much criticised Mendoza fired in Casas’ nice cross. Bayern had to score at least three time from now on to get extra time. But the German fans knew that this wasn’t going to happen especially not with Butina in a magnificent day, like today. On 79 De Cock handled the ball in the area and the man in black pointed at the spot. Riedl, a very promising 21 year old German striker, stepped up and fired it past Butina. It wan unbelievable how concentrated the player was, and on his age that’s admireable. But still Bayern couldn’t score anymore and Brugge made it to the last eight.

Final score: FC Bayern 1 (2) - Club Brugge 1 (4)

Scoreline: Mendoza 55 min 0-1; Riedl pen 79 min 1-1

Attendance: 47236

Bookings: Kuffour, Scholl; Englebert

Player ratings: Butina 8, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 6, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 6, Englebert 4, Kallstrom 7, Casas 7, Mendoza 8, Ceh 6

Geneve, 15 o’clock:

Live draw for the Quarter Finals of the Champions Cup.

Sepp Blatter: Welcome back everyone. I see some schock results have happened? Let’s have a look at the second round.

First game: Ajax vs. Dinamo Kiev

In the first leg Ajax lost surprisingly at home with three – nil. Dinamo Kiev is putting on a real display with some nice results troughout the whole campagne so far. Gavrancic, Nanni and Belkevich were the players that scored the goals for the team from Ukraine. In the second leg at Ukraine it was 0-0. And so Ajax are out of the Champions Cup and Dinamo Kiev is our first Quarter finalist.

Second game: Club Brugge vs. FC Bayern

The first game was in Belgium were the home team got away with a 3-1 victory. Casas, Ceh and Mendoza were the ones that scored before Scholl pulled one back for the German team. Bayern needed to win the return leg with 2-0 but instead they got a draw as Mendoza opened the score before Riedl pulled one back from the spot.

Third game: Lazio vs. Inter:

The current holder of the Champions Cup got a 1-0 victory in the first leg. A goal from Stankovic was the only goal at Olimpico. In San Siro it was Mihajlovic who scored the only goal of the game and Lazio progress to the Quarter Finals on 2-0 aggregate.

Fourth game: Liverpool vs. AC Milan:

The first game was played in England and ended one all. Kaka opened the score for the Italians but in the second half Kristiansen pulled one back. Everybody knew it would be a hard task for Liverpool but somehow they managed to get a 2-2 draw their, to go trough on away goals. Although Shevchenko gave Milan a 2-0 lead but a penalty goal from Nakata and a fine strike by Owen made things level again. And so we have our fourth Quarter Finalist.

Fifth game: Monaco vs. Juventus

Everyone knew that this was going to be very hard for the French team and in their home game they lost with 0-1 as Di Vaio scored the only goal of the game. The same result came in Delle Alpi but there it was Del Piero who scored the only goal of the game.

Sixth game: PAO vs. Arsenal:

An entertaining first game in Greece saw each team scoring twice. Olisadebe opened the score for the home team before Henry scored a brace to give his team a 1-2 lead. Loannou pulled one back for PAO but surely it wouldn’t be enough for the return. In England that same Loannou opened the score after 7 minutes but two minutes later Henry pulled one back. From then on Arsenal took control over the game and a goal from Edu and another one from Henry made sure that the team from London progressed.

Seventh game: Porto vs. Chelsea

The first leg was in Portugal and after nine minutes Chelsea took the lead trough Joe Cole. But two minutes later Yuri made things level again. Chelsea pushed forward and just before the end of the first half Mutu scored the last goal of the evening. In the return leg at England it was really a spectacular game. Deco opened the score for Porto and everyone thought that Porto were ready to shock the football world. But one man stood up as Hernan Crespo scored an amazing five!! Goals and another one from Veron to make it 6-1 and 8-2 on aggregated.

Eight game: Sparta Prague vs. Man Utd:

The first game in Prague ended in a 0-2 victory for the Red Devils as Keane and van Nistelrooy scored the goals there. In the return game in England Poborsky opened the score but goals from Solskjaer, Fletcher and Ernesto Perez made sure that the team from England were trough to the Quarter Finals.

Sepp Blatter: So this was the review of the second round of the Champions Cup and before we start the draw we will have a look at the five best goalscorers this season in the Champions Cup. On the first place we have the great performing Frenchmen, Thierry Henry from Arsenal with 13 goals so far. He is followed by another player from the Premier League, Ruud van Nistelrooy. He has scored 9 times in the Champions Cup this season for Man Utd. On third place we have a Peruvian, who is playing in the Belgian First Division. Andres Mendoza has scored 8 times for Club Brugge. On 4th place we have Hernan Crespo, who has scored 7 times for English club Chelsea. And with the same amount of goals on the 5th place we have Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from Man Utd. All these players are still in the competition so they can still score a lot of goals. Last season’s top goalscorer Simone Inzaghi had 18 goals last season in the Champions Cup. This season he has only scored once for Lazio.

Sepp Blatter: Now let’s get the draw underway…..

The first team that comes out the box is English side Man Utd. They will welcome Belgian side Club Brugge to their stadium. It will be intresting to see if Brugge can shock us once again. The first game is played on Wednesday, 30th March 2005.

The second team that’s coming out is another English side as Liverpool will face another Italian side, Juventus. I’m sure that Juventus will try and take revenge for Liverpool’s win against AC Milan.

The third game will see Chelsea at home against Ukrainian side Dinamo Kiev. An interesting game as Dinamo Kiev has nothing to lose. Maybe they can schock us also once again. But the English superstars are redy for them they say.

And the fourth and final game will see Arsenal at home against Serie A side Lazio. So the current top goalscorer and his team against the current Champions Cup holder. Intresting to say the least.

Sepp Blatter: So all the English teams will play at home in the first leg, it’s a bit strange but what can we do about it? I would like to welcome four of you guy’s back here for the draw of the Semi Finals of the Champions Cup.

Ok. We will play against the current leaders in the English Premier League. I’m confiident about it. Not because we have a chance to win – as we don’t in my opinion – but I’m confident because we have nothing to lose, not even our pride. That game means a lot of money for the club and a good training session against the Top of the World.

Friday 18th March:

Anderlecht couldn’t get a win against Westerlo as the game ended two all.

Saturday 19th March:

It’s unbelieveable…

This were the words of Club Brugge manager Björn Noppe after the derby game with Cercle Brugge. Despite having numerous chances troughout the whole game Brugge failed to score and were punished in the 89th minute when Svetlicic scored to one and only goal for the visitors.

The better Club play in Europe, the weaker they play in the league as they slumped to another defeat, this time against neighbours Cercle Brugge. Man of the match Olivier Van Impe stopped every shot of Club Brugge as he played a magnificent game. Cercle Brugge even left the stadion with an undeserved win but they won’t stop sleeping for this. Svetlicic scored the one and only goal in the 89th minute. He was only nine minutes on the pitch then. Maybe there’s still hope for the other teams to take the First Division title.

Final score: Club Brugge 0 – Cercle Brugge 1

Scoreline: Svetlicic 89 min 0-1

Attendance: 17070

Bookings: Verheyen; Vandenbussche, Kubik, Frigard

Player ratings: Butina 7, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 6, Verheyen 7, Englebert 6 (Saeternes 10 min 7), Kallstrom 6, Casas 7, Lange 7, Gvozdenovic 7

Beveren won against Antwerp with 1-0 while Hugo Broos won his first game with Charleroi. They defeated Roeselare with 2-0. Germinal Beerschot walked over AA Gent in a 4-0 win while Lierse won against Standard with 1-0. Mouscron defeated La Louvière with 3-2 and Sint-Truiden won at home against Lokeren with 1-0.

Sunday 20th March:

Jaime Pacheco is no longer the manager of Mallorca as chairman Mateo Alemany sacked him today. Mallorca are currently in 19th position which means they will be relegated if results don’t improve soon.

In other news, there was one game sheduled this afternoon as Oostende lost at home against Genk with 0-2.

Wednesday 23rd March:

Barcelona have won the Spanish Cup thanks to a two – one victory over arch rivals Real Madrid. After only three minutes Motta opened the score for Barca but five minutes later Ronaldo made the score level again. Barca and Real had both the chances to win the game but in the end it was Marquez who gave Barca the Spanish Cup with his goal in the 78th minute.

Easy Cup win for Brugge.

You could clearly see the difference between Club Brugge and Kapellen this evening as Brugge easily defeated them with 5-0. A brace from Casas were the first two goals of the game and later in the first half Englebert added his goal. Two minutes after the restart of the second half Mendoza made it four and with 15 minutes left on the clock Englebert added another one to his account.

Before the game started everyone expected Brugge to win, and they did it, but not in the way the fans expected. It became a real goalfestival. After 19 minutes of football Casas opened the score for his team and seven minutes later he made it two. Brugge had a lot of chances and Englebert’s first goal of the game putted Brugge on roses. In the second half Brugge kept controlling the game and when Mendoza made it four the game was played. Englebert’s second goal of the game made sure that Brugge shouldn’t worry for the return. Brugge played very well and this was what they needed after a slightly dissappointing First Division moment.

Thanks SoS, It was only against a Third Division side...

Thursday 24th March:

There was a little worry in this morning’s trainingsessions as Rune Lange picked up a torn groin muscle and he will be out for two months. Which means he will be out for the rest of the season.

In other news Mallorca appointed Manuel Amieiro as their new manager today. It’s a big step up for the Portuguese as his former job was being the assistant manager of Osasuna.

Saturday 26th March:

And yet another defeat. What’s going on?

Club Brugge, the team that looked unbeatable at the start of the season is now in a minor crisis as they lost against Antwerp. A fourth minute penalty goal from Ribus was more then enough for The Great Old.

Although Brugge have still one game in hand and six points lead over their first followers, the fans can start to worry a little bit. Brugge played very weak against Antwerp and Björn will have to do something to get his team on the right track again. After four minutes Kallstrom made a foul in the area and the referee awarded a penalty. Ribus stepped up and converted the penalty to make sure that his team got away with the three points.

Final score: Antwerp 1 – Club Brugge 0

Scoreline: Ribus pen 4 min 1-0

Attendance: 16643

Bookings: Ceh (misses next match), Aghahowa, Kallstrom, Englebert

Player ratings: Butina 5, Maertens 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 6, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Casas 7, Saeternes 6, Ceh 5

In the other games AA Gent defeated Oostende with 3-0 while Cercle Brugge – Germinal Beerschot and Genk - Mouscron both ended in 0-0. La Louvière drew 1-1 with Charleroi while Lokeren and Lierse couldn’t score. Roeselare kept the three points at home against Anderlecht after their 2-0 win and Standard did the same against Beveren. In the last game Westerlo defeated Sint-Truiden with 1-0.

Wednesday 30th March:

A loss with option to get a victory.

Club Brugge almost schocked the football world for the hundreth time this season as with 17 minutes played they were leading 0-2 at Old Trafford. First it was Saeternes who scored and six minutes later Casas put the Brugge fans in a dream world. But the fans were wakened up by Man Utd as Ruud Van Nistelrooy pulled one back for the end of the first half and a goal from Kluivert and Van Nistelrooy once again made it 3-2 when the game ended.

Brugge really got off to a good start as they finished their first two chances they created. First it was Saeternes who headed in Casas’ cross and six minutes later Clement chipped the ball in the area. Casas picked it up before he blasted it past Barthez. But Man Utd woke up and on 36 Ruud van Nistelrooy scored to make it 1-2. Brugge scored once again trough Casas, but only to be called back by the referee who whistled for off-side. A few minutes later Ceh hitted the crossbar with his freekick attempt. In the second half most chances were for the Mancunians and a goal from Kluivert in the 55th minute made things level again. They pushed forward as 2-2 wasn’t enough for them and the fans. Van Nistelrooy scored his second goal of the game to give Man Utd a 3-2 lead for their return in Jan Breydelstadion.

Final score: Man Utd 3 - Club Brugge 2

Scoreline: Saeternes 11 min 0-1; Casas 17 min 0-2; van Nistelrooy 36 min 1-2; Kluivert 55 min 2-2; van Nistelrooy 62 min 3-2

Attendance: 56053

Bookings: O’Shea, Kluivert, Phil Neville; Clement (misses next match)

Player ratings: Butina 8, Maertens 6, Van der Heyden 5, Clement © 7, De Cock 6, Aghahowa 7 (Verheyen 72 min 6), Englebert 7, Kallstrom 6, Casas 8, Saeternes 6, Ceh 5

In the other games Arsenal defeated Lazio with 3-0 while Liverpool lost at home against Juventus with 0-1. The third and final game ended in a 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Dinamo Kiev.

There was also one First Division fixture. Charleroi lost 1-2 at home against Anderlecht.

April, the season is running to his end

Friday 1st April:

The board and fans are, just like the previous months, still delighted with the way I’m doing my job.

Loyalty 11 same

Media handling 20 same

1) Aluspah for Charleroi vs. Oostende

2) De Decker for AA Gent vs. Lierse

3) Yaya for Beveren vs. AA Gent </pre>

Saturday 2nd April:

This evening Belgium showed their class by beating Kazakhstan 2-1 in a World Cup Qualifying Section Group 4 game. Although Belgium could have run out with a heavier defeat if they should have at least finished 30% of their chances.

Sunday 3rd April:

With the “B†team starting

With a lot of the first team players away on international duty, Brugge easily bruished passed Kapellen as they ran out 0-3 winners. First on the scoreboard was Casas and he was followed by Saeternes before he added another himself. And so Brugge go trough with an 0-8 aggregated score.

There were a lot of changes in the starting line-up as a lot of players were either away with their national team, injured or even banned. But it didn’t hurt Brugge as after seven minutes Casas opened the score with a strike from 20 yards. Eight minutes later Saeternes doubled the lead with a fine header. Aghahowa was the man who chipped the ball into the area. Casas second goal was a rebound shot as Kapellen ‘keeper Ferket stopped his first shot. Brugge shifted down a gear and let Kapellen make the play as they were certainly trough to the Final of the Belgian Cup!

Final score: Kapellen 0 (0) – Club Brugge 3 (8)

Scoreline: Casas 7 min 0-1; Saeternes 15 min 0-2; Casas 22 min 0-3

Attendance: 3478

In the final we will meet Mouscron, who are currently placed 7th in the First Division.

Wednesday 6th April:

Things are going from bad to worse at the club as today I received the news that my star striker Casas is out for at least two months after he picked up the same disease like Lange. This means he’s out for the rest of the season, just now when we needed him more then ever.

In other news our national team lost against Portugal with 2-1. They could have got more out of the game but once again, they need to finish their chances to do that.

Saturday 9th April:

Björn needs to do something.

Club Brugge failed to win against Standard this evening as the game ended one all. Brugge had at some point in the competition 20 points lead on the 2nd placed team, now they only have six with a game in hand. It seems like it’s going to be a long hard way to the finish.

The game started great for the “blue army†when Mendoza opened the score for Brugge. But from then on it went downhill as Standard took over the game and the only playing on a normal level was goalkeeper Butina. But in the 64th minute he was also defeated as Walasiak fired in the equaliser. It’s the fifth game in a row that Brugge fail to win in the competition and with eight games left to play the competition isn’t over.

Final score: Club Brugge 1 – Standard 1

Scoreline: Mendoza 18 min 1-0; Walasiak 64 min 1-1

Attendance: 22950

Bookings: Rondeux

Player ratings: Butina 5, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Saeternes 6, Mendoza 8, Ceh 7

Beveren lost at home with 0-2 against Lokeren while Lierse easily won against Westerlo with 3-0. Mouscron humiliated AA Gent as they ran out 5-0 winners.

Sunday 10th April:

Germinal Beerschot won with 3-0 against Antwerp while Oostende – Cercle Brugge ended one all. Roeselare defeated La Louvière with 3-1 while Charleroi lost at home with 0-1 against Genk. Anderlecht won with 1-0 against Sint-Truiden to complete the 28th playday.

Monday 11th April:

Anderlecht defender Vincent Kompany joined our squad today in a free transfer deal.

Wednesday 13th April:

Thanks you Scholes and Saeternes.

Club Brugge keep shocking the football world as this evening they have qualified for the Semi Finals of the European Champions Cup. But they had that bit of luck that otherwise the big teams have. Paul Scholes missed a penalty and nine minutes later Saeternes scored on a counter-attack. Man Utd will be disappointed as they could have won the game very easily, but therefore they need to finish their chances.

Club Brugge’s two goals in Old Trafford are worth gold as they're qualified because of the away goal rule. The game started with Man Utd in dominating role and Brugge also tried to bring some nice football. In the 25th minute Maertens pushed van Nistelrooy in the area and it looked like Brugge’s dream was over, but Butina stopped Scholes penalty attempt. With Brugge getting confidence out of that and Man Utd who got a mental hit, the way was open for Saeternes on the counter attack. Maertens played a long ball to Mendoza, who passed it to the Norwegian striker. He approached Howard and fired it in low and unstoppable into the back of the net. Brugge were trough on away goals, but had still a long way to go. Although Man Utd had dozen of chances, they couldn’t beat Butina as it stayed 1-0 and Brugge were trough.

Final score: Club Brugge 1 (3) a - Man Utd 0 (3)

Scoreline: Saeternes 34 min 1-0

Attendance: 27751

Bookings: Maertens, Diogo, Mendoza; Silvestre, Ferdinand

Geneve, 15 o’clock:

Live draw for the Semi Finals of the Champions Cup.

Sepp Blatter: So four of you left to battle for the oh so respected Trophy with the big ears. Let’s see how the Quarter finals ended.

First game: Arsenal vs. Lazio:

Arsenal is the team with the best home reputation in the Champions Cup this season and they proved it against Champions Cup holders Lazio as they easily overcame them in a 3-0 victory in the first leg. Lazio were doomed to lose when Zauri was sent off after only 39 minutes. But the first goal came in the second half when Henry added another goal to his tally. Bergkamp added a brace to give them a serious option to qualify. In the return leg at Olimpico Lazio fought back and with 15 minutes left on the clock they were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Fiore and Muzzi. But it was to late for the Italian giants as they didn’t found the net for a third goal and so England has gotten his first team in the Semi Final.

Second Game: Chelsea vs. Dinamo Kiev:

After 12 minutes Dinamo took the lead as Shatskikh opened the score. But the team from London fought back and a goal from Geremi was soon followed up by a goal of Joe Cole. Dinamo Kiev weren’t really in the game but in some moments they brought some nice football and when Belkevich scored in the 38th minute they had two away goals which could be very good for in the return. But the return didn’t offer what most people expected as none of both teams scored and so Dinamo Kiev shocked us once again as they dismiss Chelsea with the away goal rule.

Third game: Liverpool vs. Juventus

The first game was at Anfield and a 33rd minute goal from Di Vaio was the only goal of the game. So Liverpool would have the hard task to win in Delle Alpi. But they couldn’t as in the same minute in Torino Nedved proved himself by scoring the only goal of the game and so another English team is out of the race.

Fourth game: Man Utd vs. Brugge

The fourth and final English team were schocked by Brugge as after 17 minutes they were trailling by two thanks to Saeternes and Casas. But Man Utd. Fought back and two goals of van Nistelrooy and one of Kluivert saw Man Utd leading 3-2 when they visited Belgium. All the pressure was on Man Utd as Brugge had nothing to lose. Paul Scholes will have a hard time to forget about his penalty he missed as soon after that Saeternes scored the one and only goal of the came to give his team a place in the Semi Finals of the Champions League.

Sepp Blatter: But before we start the draw I would like to congratulate the most valuable young player so far in the world. Fernando Torres has bagged 15 goals so far in 31 games and he’s making the weather for Atlético Madrid. He’s already being 8 times capped for the Spanish national team in which he scored once, but he has still the time to break every record at Spain and I’m sure he will break some records. So good luck, son.

Sepp Blatter: Now let’s get the draw underway….

The first team that’s been picked is Belgian side Club Brugge and they will welcome Juventus to their stadion. It will be an interesting game to say the least, but then again every Semi Final game is intresting.

So this means that Arsenal will try to eleminate Dinamo Kiev. I wish all teams good luck. The first game is played on Wednesday, 27.04.2005.

Friday 15th April:

Anderlecht manage to win in and against La Louvière with 0-2.

Saturday 16th April:

AA Gent lose at home with 1-2 against Charleroi while Antwerp easily defeated Oostende with 3-0. Genk did the same against Roeselare while Sint-Truiden - Lierse ended two all. The last game between Westerlo and Beveren ended 2-0.

Sunday 17th April:

Silvio Berlusconi, the chairman of AC Milan, has sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti today. He feels that a new manager will bring a fresh approach to the team. AC Milan are currently in third position in the Serie A and went out in the Champions Cup 2nd round vs. Liverpool.

In other news Cercle Brugge won against Mouscron with 3 goals against 2 goals while Standard won with 1-0 against Germinal Beerschot.

Just like the old days…

Brugge have won their difficult away game at Daknam against Lokeren. And they did it in a convincing way as Kallstrom scored a hat-trick before Mendoza added a fourth. It was a great game for the Brugge fans, who are hoping now that their team is back until the end of the season.

The game started like a nightmare for Lokeren as they were trailing 0-1 after the first minute as Kallstrom fired in his first goal of the game. He was having a stormer as fifteen minutes later he doubled the lead on his own. Lokeren had their own chances also but Butina was confident at the back and stopped everything coming at him. In the 38th minute Kallstrom completed his hat-trick as he fired in a third as Mendoza followed his run, before he crossed a nice ball to him. Just before the end of the first half Englebert needed to leave the pitch with an injury, but it couldn’t stop Brugge as Mendoza fired in his first and Brugge’s fourth game of the match. Just like in the first half, Lokeren had their chances but Butina stayed unbeaten for the whole game.

Final score: Lokeren 0 – Club Brugge 4

Scoreline: Kallstrom 1 min 0-1; Kallstrom 16 min 0-2; Kallstrom 38 min 0-3; Mendoza 65 min 0-4

Attendance: 11225

Bookings: Zanzan, Zéré, Gretarsson; Ceh

Player ratings: Butina 8, Diogo 8, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7 (Kompany 45 min 7), Kallstrom 10, Saeternes 7, Mendoza 10, Ceh 7

Wednesday 20th April:

Steve Gibson, the chairman of Middlesbrough, has sacked manager Steve McClaren today after some dissappointing results in the Premier League. Boro are currently in 16th position.

Brugge back on the right time.

It seems like Brugge is back right on time to win the First Division this season. Today they faced AA Gent in Jules Ottenstadion as both teams had a game in hand. Zézéto opened the score for the home team but Brugge fought back trough Mendoza and Aghahowa. In the second half Ribus equalised the score for AA Gent but all effort was done for nothing as four minutes later Mendoza decided the game with his second goal of the game.

The home team fans were pleasantly surprised as Zézéto opened the score after five minutes. Brugge fought back and pushed forward. They were rewarded for their attacking football as Mendoza equalised the score with his goal before Aghahowa gave Brugge the lead with his sixth goal of the season. The game slowed down and everyone was happy when half-time arrived. In the second half Gent were looking for points as they pushed forward early in the second half. And they seemed to find points when Ribus scored to make things level again, but nothing was true. Mendoza dribbled past two players before he played a one-two with Kallstrom. Because of this he was unmarked and so he shoved the ball under De Wilde to make it 2-3.

Final score: AA Gent 2 – Club Brugge 3

Scoreline: Zézéto 5 min 1-0; Mendoza 14 min 1-1; Aghahowa 33 min 1-2; Ribus 54 min 2-2; Mendoza 58 min 2-3

Attendance: 12694

Bookings: Vanhees

Player ratings: Butina 5, Diogo 8, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 6, Aghahowa 8, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 7, Saeternes 8, Mendoza 9, Ceh 7

And so after this game we took a nine point lead with five more games to play. One thing’s for sure, we can’t afford to drop points.

Saturday 23rd April:

Good things and bad things.

The good things for Brugge were their two goals as Saeternes and Mendoza found the back of the net. Another good thing was that they didn’t conceed a goal, but the bad thing was Butina’s injury in the last minute which will rule him out for a week and this just before the inmportant game with Juventus.

This game was one-way football as Club controlled from start to finish. Mendoza opened the score for the “blue army†after 15 minutes. It was Saeternes who delivered the final pass for Mendoza. Westerlo couldn’t do anything back and they could only hope that they weren’t slaughtered. And they weren’t but that was all thanks to goallie Deelkens, who played a great game. Three minutes before the end of the game it was Saeternes who scored the goal which gave a lot of people a smile on their face. It was Englebert who chipped the ball in the area, to crown his wonderful game. When the referee ended the game, Butina became injured when he made a fist of his hand to jubelate, which created his injury as he is out for a week with a sprained wrist.

Final score: Club Brugge 2 – Westerlo 0

Scoreline: Mendoza 15 min 1-0; Saeternes 87 min 2-0

Attendance: 13557

Bookings: Mendoza; Stassin, Serbest, De Langhe

Sunday 24th April:

Boro have appointed former Denmark manager Morten Olsen as their new manager today. The fans hope’s that he has the skills to guide his team to glory.

There were also one game to be played this evening. Mouscron easily defeated Antwerp with 3-0.

Wednesday 27th April:

We won’t give up.

It’s almost certain that Brugge are out of the Champions Cup this season as they lost 1-3 in the first leg of the semi-final against Juventus. On 29 Di Vaio opened the score and in the second half Camoranesi doubled the lead before Di Vaio added another. In injury time Mendoza scored a consolation goal.

You could really see the difference in class, if you watched this game. Juventus were dominating and controlling without getting in second gear. Their dominace and possesion rewarded in a goal after 29 minutes as Di Vaio headed the ball past Stijnen. They had a lot of chances but Stijnen was playing very well in the first half. In the second half Juventus wanted to score at least once more as they started very furious. Three minutes after the restart Camoranesi doubled the lead and Brugge were almost certain out of the Champions Cup. But it didn’t bother the fans as they kept supporting their team. Two minutes before the end of the game Di Vaio made it three, with his second goal of the game and Mendoza’s goal will be nothing else then a consolation goal and for the statistics.

Final score: Club Brugge 1 - Juventus 3

Scoreline: Di Vaio 29 min 0-1 ; Camoranesi 48 min 0-2 ; Di Vaio 88 min 0-3 ; Mendoza 90+2 min 1-3

Attendance: 27118

Bookings: Diogo (misses next match), Englebert (misses next match); Legrottaglie, Nedved

Player ratings: Stijnen 7, Diogo 7, Van der Heyden 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 6, Aghahowa 6, Englebert 6, Kallstrom 7, Saeternes 7, Mendoza 7, Ceh 4

The other semi final ended in a 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Dinamo Kiev.

There was also First division football this evening. Beveren lost 0-3 at home against Sint-Truiden while Cercle Brugge won with 2-3 in and against Charleroi. Germinal Beerschot humuliated Lokeren as they trashed them with 4-0 while Oostende lost at home from Standard with 0-2. Roeselare defeated AA Gent with 2-0.

Thursday 28th April:

Rudi Völler is the new manager of Anderlecht as of today. The German legend has managed Germany and Bologna before he arrived here in Belgium. His task will be to lead Anderlecht to glory, and so to push us of the crown.

Friday 29th April:

He didn’t make a good debut as manager as he lost with 1-0 in and against Genk.

Saturday 30th April:

AA Gent beat La Louvière in a record high-scoring game with 5-3 while Antwerp and Charleroi didn’t found the way to the goal. Beveren managed to win 1-3 in and against Lierse while Lokeren lost with 0-1 at home against Oostende. In the last game of today Germinal Beerschot won in and against Westerlo with 0-1.

May, the last football month:

Sunday 1st May:

The board and fans are very pleased with me and the way I’m doing my job.

My manager profile looked like this when I checked it:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Ability to handle pressure 8 same

Ambition 11 same

Loyalty 11 same

Media handling 20 same

Professionalism 16 same

Temperament 16 same

Reputation good good

And then we also had the goal of the month:

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

1) Miklos for Charleroi vs. Cercle Brugge

2) Asubonteng for Germinal Beerschot vs. Lokeren

3) Thompson for Germinal Beerschot vs. Lokeren </pre>

Cercle Brugge lost heavily at home as Roeselare won with 1-4 while Standard easily beated Mouscron with 4-0.

A draw against a familiar face.

Sint-Truiden vs. Club Brugge was a game between the former assistant manager of Björn and Björn himself. The game didn’t started like Rene Verheyen expected as Bodor was sent off after 8 minutes. Even with 10 man it was Sint-Truiden who took the lead as Janssen fired the ball past Stijnen. Brugge wasn’t playing their best game ever, but still they had the chances to win the game very easily but they had to wait until the 90th minute when Mendoza scored the equaliser.

Bodor’s dismissal was a bit to harsh as he received a red card because he upended Aghahowa, but what the referee say’s is the law on the pitch. Six minutes after his dismissal it was Jochen Janssen who struck the ball on the half volley before it beated Stijnen. Brugge looked surprised and started to search for a goal. Despite having the ball most of the time and controlling the game from then on Brugge couldn’t found the net until the 90th minute when the ever-scoring Mendoza equalised with his 36th goal of the season. And so Brugge aren’t still certain of the First Division title.

Final score: Sint-Truiden 1 – Club Brugge 1

Scoreline: Janssen 14 min 1-0; Mendoza 90 min 1-1

Wednesday 4th May:

La Louvière did a good job against relegation as they won against Genk with 3-0.

Friday 6th May:

Easy victory against 6th placed Lierse

This evening 16547 fans saw Club Brugge win with 4-0 against Lierse and because of this they clinched the First Division title for the second time in a row under manager Björn Noppe. Saeternes opened the score and two minutes later Van der Heyden doubled the lead. Five minutes before the end of the first half Kallstrom made it three and the game and Championship was decided. In the second half it was Saeternes with his second goal of the game, who putted the final score on the board.

Every fan and player of Brugge knew that if they won this game, they were crowned to First Division Champions. And after 17 minutes they were on the right track as Mendoza crossed the ball into the area, where Saeternes volleyed it home. Two minutes later Van der Heyden tipped in the rebound after Kallstrom’s freekick attempt was saved. Brugge wanted to make this an evening that the fans didn’t forgot soon and when Kallstrom scored the third goal of the game everyone was singing and cheering. Lierse also had there own chances but with Butina back in goal, Brugge looked unbeatable. In the second half Saeternes scored his second goal of the game to put the final score on the scoreboard.

Final score: Club Brugge 4 – Lierse 0

Wednesday 11th May:

Let’s say it started well

Club Brugge have failed to reach the final of the Champions Cup this evening as Juventus trashed them at Delle Alpi. Although it started well for Brugge as Saeternes opened the score after seven minutes. From then on Juventus had enough of it and a brace from Miccoli made it 2-1 at half-time. In the second half Davids netted a brace in two minutes and Trezeguet’s goal in the 77th minute made the trashing complete.

Brugge had the first chance of the game and they finished it as Mendoza played the ball to Saeternes, who fired it in hard past Buffon. From then on it was almost one way football and Miccoli score a brace to make it 2-1 for Juve at half-time. In the second half they pushed forward for more and midfielder Edgar Davids netted a brace also, but he did it in two minutes! The score was 4-1 and Club Brugge were certainly out of the Champions League. But the trashing wasn’t over as Trezeguet tipped in a rebound shot after Di Vaio’s shot hitted the post. It was a great lesson for Club, who can be very happy about their campagne.

Final score: Juventus 5 (8) - Club Brugge 1 (2)

Scoreline: Saeternes 7 min 0-1; Miccoli 29 min 1-1; Miccoli 33 min 2-1; Davids 61 min 3-1; Davids 62 min 4-1; Trezeguet 77 min 5-1

The other finalist will be Arsenal as they won 1-3 in and against Dinamo Kiev as Henry added another two goals to his tally.

Sunday 14th May:

A fair game with a convincing win for the away team.

This evening it was time to play the 33th game of the competition for this season. Beveren played at home against Club Brugge and although it was a fair game, in which both team had several chances, it was Brugge who won with convincing 1-3 numbers. Kallstrom opened the score before Boka equalised for the home team. Four minutes before the end of the first half Saeternes and Aghahowa added their goal to put the final score on the scoreboard.

Club Brugge looked recovered from their beating in the Semi Final of the Champions League as they arrived in Freethiel to play against Beveren. After 11 minutes Kallstrom opened the score after Verheyen played a trough ball to him. Both teams had chances and so Beveren equalised trough Boka. But their lead didn’t last long as four minutes later Saeternes restored the one goal advantage of Club Brugge and anoher two minutes later Aghahowa made it 1-3. In the second half Beveren had some chances to get back in the game but Butina was solid at the back. Clement even had the chance to make it four from the spot but he blazed it over the bar.

Sunday 22nd May:

The Belgian Cup Final.

This evening it was time for the Belgian Cup Final. 41234 fans saw Club Brugge and Mouscron fighting to get the Trophy to their ground. When the final whistle came the Belgian Cup went to Jan Breydelstadion as Kallstrom netted a hat-trick in the first half. To be completely honest, Mouscron didn’t even had a chance to win it as they were outclassed for most of the time.

Club Brugge was the big favourite to win this game, but in football every game has to be played. After 18 minutes Kallstrom fired in his first goal. Ten minutes later Englebert gave his second assist of the game to let Kallstrom score his second goal of the season. And another ten minutes later he fired in his third to complete his hat-trick. This time it was Mendoza who gave the assist. In the second half Brugge relaxed, but because of Mouscron’s uninspiring way of play they had another handful of chances, which they failed to finish. But the three goals were more then enough to give manager Björn Noppe his first Belgian Cup Trophy since he arrived there.

Final score: Club Brugge 3 – Mouscron 0

Scoreline: Kallstrom 18 min 1-0; Kallstrom 28 min 2-0; Kallstrom 38 min 3-0

Player ratings: Butina 8, Diogo 7, Gvozdenovic 7, Clement © 7, De Cock 7, Aghahowa 7, Englebert 7, Kallstrom 10, Saeternes 7, Mendoza 8, Ceh 7

Wednesday 25th May:

Could’ve been better.

In the last game of the season for Brugge, they only managed to get a draw at home against Anderlecht. They could have easily won but their finishing was really poor today. It was Aghahowa who opened the score for Brugge but in the second half Jestrovic scored the equaliser.

Brugge were really dominating the game from start to finish today but poor finishing saw the game ending in a draw. The first goal of the game came in the 38th minute when Saeternes’ shot hitted the upright before Aghahowa tipped the ball in. By then it could have been already two or three nil. Just before the end of the first half Kolar pushed Saeternes in the area and the referee pointed at the spot. Ceh stepped up but he blasted the ball right into the keeper’s arms. In the second half Brugge kept dominating but once again they couldn’t finish and when Anderlectht created their first chance of the game, the game was level once again. And so the season ends with a draw.

Season 2004/2005 review:

Transfers + the squad:

When I prepared myself for the start of my second season I was very pleased to have Casas and Diogo in my squad. I expected a lot of them and they really lived up to my expectations. Casas scored more then I expected and if it wasn’t because of his injury at the end of the season, he would have ended as my top goalscore this season I think. Diogo was very solid at the back and he has still a lot of time to develop. When Aghahowa arrived at the club, I knew that I didn’t have any money left for trasnfers, but to be honest he was worth every cent and I don’t regret it that I’ve bought him. The rest of the squad was also good enough as I knew them from the previous season. Stoica was the only player who left my squad, but we received almost €2M for him which is good money for a player that isn’t in your plans.

The First Division:

What can I say? The campagne really ran smoothly as we started of unbeatable and dominating almost all of our games. But after a while we didn’t looked convincing anymore and we started to lose our big lead of 20 points. I was even fearing a bit but my team picked up the good form on the good moment and so we ended the First Division with 12 points more then our first followers. I think we will be favourites once again next year and I surely hope that the players can live up to the expectations.

The Champions Cup:

The whole campagne was unbelievable. We ended on top in a difficult group wich included Milan, Real Madrid and Rangers. The home win against Milan and the two wins against Rangers were really nice and keeping Real at a 0-0 draw at home was also spectacular. In the second round we eliminated FC Bayern and the 3-1 home win will stay with me for a long while. But we had more impressing results against Man Utd, as we took a 0-2 lead at Old Trafford, to loose 3-2 in the end. But our 1-0 at home was more then enough to progress to the Semi Final! That was were it all ended and Juventus gave us a really trashing. My conclusion is that we had an amazing campagne and that this won’t happen again very soon.

The other leagues:

England’s Premier League:

For the second time in a row Chelsea ended on top of the table as they had two points more then Man Utd. Arsenal and Newcastle complete the top-four. Three teams were relegated here as West Ham, Wolves and Leicester couldn’t stay up. Will anyone stop Chelsea in the next season or will they easily win their third tittle in a row.

Italy’s Serie A:

There was no contest for Inter this season as they ended twelve points clear of second placed Roma. Former Champions Juventus ended in third position and Lazio ended in fourth. Cagliari, Lecce and Modena are the three teams that are relegated this season.

Spain’s La Liga:

Real Madrid were once again unstoppable in the Spanish First Division. They had an amazing 18 points lead on second placed Valencia. Deportivo and Betis complete the top four in Spain. Xerez, Rayo and Tenerife couldn’t avoid the drop.

Pre-season:

My Pre-season is starting on Wednesday 1st of June. That’s the same day as the Champions League Final. It was Arsenal who were the lucky winners as they won 1-3 in the penalty shoot-out. Henry opened the score for the Gunners but six minutes later Del Piero made the score level again and so the game was decided in a shoot-out. Arsenal may be very happy that they’ve won it as they didn’t deserve to win this game, as Juve controlled for most of the time. Also today I received €5,5M from Champions Cup television revenue. Roma won the Italian Cup with a 5-2 aggregate result against Juventus. There was a real shock in the pre-season as AC Milan appointed unknown Srecko Katanec as their new manager. The Slovenian manager will have a lot to prove. I also picked up Roberto Massaro, a youth product, who was released by AC Milan. I think he might develop in a great player. On the last day of the first month of the pre-season the fans voted Casas as their player of the Year. It’s quiet hectic for the Argentinian striker as there were also rumours going round that he would move to Lazio or AC Milan as both teams are intrested in his services. Also today I received news that my first two youth players were produced. One isn’t looking very promising, Phillippe de Koker, but the other one, Tom Vets, is looking very decent on his age of sixteen. More news today came in as we received €375K for the television rights of the First Division for this season. My board also announced that we agreed a new sponsorship with a local company. The deal is worth €80K over three years. I was more then happy when I heard that I’ve got €23M to spent on new players this season, but with this money we need to win the First Division once again. I don’t think that we will need that money, but it’s greatly accepted. Deportivo signed Real Madrid’s Solari for a fee of €6,5M.

On the first day of July Bizzarri arrived at the club. I’m doubting about which goalkeeper I will use this season, him or Butina. I will see how they perform in the Friendly’s. Also today Mendoza left the club as he joined Anderlecht. I’m very unhappy to lose him as he scored more then 60 goals in the two seasons I’ve been here. Milan bought back Filippo Inzaghi from Valencia. .They paid €4M for him. Arsenal brought in Eidur Gudjohnsen from Sevilla. The club from London paid €7,5M for the striker. Casas, Clement and Van der Heyden all signed a new and improved conract during the pre-season. I brought in another great player from Spain as I bought Guayre from Villarreal for a fee of €2,2M. I was very pleased to have him here as a replacement for Mendoza. Lazio brought in Brazilian striker Gil from Corinthians for a fee worth €12,75M. More transfer news today as Murcia signed Betis’ Fernando for €9,25M. On the 21st of the month Man Utd bought Real Sociedad’s Lee Chun-Soo for €8,75M and Eric Djemba-Djemba. I our first friendly of our pre-season tour we easily defeated Mons with 0-3 as Kallstrom scored before Saeternes added his brace to the scoreline. Against 1. FC Kôln we got a 1-1 draw as Clement headed in our only goal of the game. On Saturday 30th July Inter bought Claudio Lopez from Lazio for €31M which is a new record signing in the game. And with this my pre-season is over as we start the new season.

Squad review:

Before we start the new season I will do a squad review. The total season stats are only those under my guidance, so no other club’s history included.

Goalkeepers:

Albano Benjamin Bizzarri, Argentinian, 27y: Bizzarri has just arived at the club and I can say that I’m more then happy to have him in my squad. He’s a great goalkeeper and has a lot of expierence. It will be a difficult choice to choose between him and his rival, who is up next.

Last season stats: signed on a free transfer from Valladolid.

Tomislav Butina, Croatian (9 caps), 31y: His stats aren’t as good as last year but still I thought he played way better then last year. He was a great reason of our Champions Cup campagne and our succes in the league, but still with the arrival of Bizzarri it could be that he starts on the bench, although I’m not quite sure.

Last season stats: 53 apps, 44 con, 23 cln, 8 MoM, 7,13 avg. r.

Total season stats 100 apps, 77 con, 48 cln, 18 MoM, 7,17 avg. r.

Defenders:

Philippe Clement, Belgian (31 caps/1 goal), 31y: Clement has been captain for two years now and he keeps improving. He played better then last year and even scored his first goal for the club while I was managing. I hope he does even better next year.

Last season stats: 50 apps, 1 gl, 2 ass, 0 MoM, 6.86 avg. r.

Total season stats: 96 (1) apps, 1 gl, 2 ass, 0 MoM, 6.80 avg. r.

Olivier De Cock, Belgian (9 caps), 29y: Olivier played as good as he played last year, so I like that because he keeps the same niveau. He hasn’t scored a goal under my era but as long as he does what I expect him to do I’m happy with him, but it could be that another player will start in his position this year.

Last season stats: 55 apps, 0 gls, 1 ass, 0 MoM, 6.53 avg. r.

Total season stats: 101 apps, 0 gls, 5 ass, 0 MoM, 6.52 avg. r.

Peter Van der Heyden, Belgian (18 caps/1 goal), 29y: He surely played at much more important role to the team this year, although his average rating is less. Everything improved for him this season and I still haven’t found a better player for his position so he will also be there next season normally.

Last season stats: 46 apps, 1 gl, 7 ass, 0 MoM, 6.70 avg. r.

Total season stats: 88 apps, 1 gl, 10 ass, 0 MoM, 6.84 avg. r.

Ivan Gvozdenovic, Serbia and Montenegro (1 cap), 26y: All his appearances this year were starters but still I would like to sell him as soon as possible as I don’t need him. He played better then he did last year but he isn’t good enough to replace Van der Heyden on his position.

Last season stats: 13 apps, 0 gls, 1 ass, 0 MoM, 6.92 avg. r.

Total season stats: 23 (5) apps, 0 gl, 2 ass, 0 MoM, 6.79 avg. r.

Birger Maertens, Belgian, 25y: Has played less then last season but this is because Diogo played on his position. He doesn’t play very well the times he plays and so I would like to sell him also.

Last season stats: 12 apps, 0 gls, 0 ass, 0 MoM, 6.42 avg. r.

Total season stats: 30 (4) apps, 0 gls, 1 ass, 0 MoM, 6.59 avg. r.

Vincent Kompany, Belgian (6 caps), 19y: He arrived when the previous season was almost over and didn’t played much as I didn’t wanted to make any changes during the season. I think I will try him out on De Cock’s position and see if it works out. I expect a lot of him.

Last season stats: 0 (4) apps, 0 gls, 0 ass, 0 MoM, 6.75 avg. r.

Midfielders:

Carlos Diogo, Uruguayan (6 caps), 22y: Although he plays as right back I place him with the midfielders as he is listed as one. He adapted very well to live in Belgium and played very great on his position. He impressed me very well in some crucial Champions Cup games and I hope he keeps improving.

Last season stats: 49 apps, 0 gls, 2 ass, 1 MoM, 7.20 avg. r.

Gaëtan Englebert, Belgian (18 caps/2 goals), 29y: Played way better then last year and involves more in the games. All his stats have improved or stayed the same like last year so that’s fine. He will definitely start in the same position next year.

Last season stats: 52 apps, 6 gls, 7 ass, 2 MoM, 7.15 avg. r.

Total season stats: 100 apps, 11 gls, 13 ass, 4 MoM, 7.13 avg. r

Nastja Ceh, Slovenian (26 caps/4 goals), 27y: Played a great season on the left wing. His crosses are almost as good as Beckham’s and he dribbles quite good. I expect the same of him this year.

Last season stats: 53 apps, 4 gls, 20 ass, 0 MoM, 6.85 avg. r.

Total season stats: 97 apps, 9 gls, 33 ass, 1 MoM, 6.82 avg. r.

Kim Källström, Swedish (19 caps/1 goal), 22y: Magnificent season by our Swedish player. I won’t forget his season’s ending as he scored a lot then. At his age of 22 he has still the time to develop even better, but I don’t think he will stay with us for long as some teams are intrested in him.

Last season stats: 54 apps, 12 gls, 8 ass, 5 MoM, 7.19 avg. r.

Total season stats: 97 apps, 18 gls, 13 ass, 6 MoM, 7.01 avg. r.

Julius Aghahowa, Nigerian (35 caps/14 goals), 23y: He arrived here at the start of the previous season or almost at the start, it was a bit later. I spend all my money on him but he was surely worth it as he is a talented player.

Last season stats: 41 apps, 8 gls, 11 ass, 3 MoM, 7.24 avg. r.

Attackers:

Bengt Saeternes, Norwegian (1 cap), 30y: Only played at the end of te season because of injuries to key players, but he did a nice job as he scored a fairly amount of goals. I surely won’t forget his goal against Man Utd which ensured our place in the Semi Finals of the Champions Cup.

Last season stats: 17 (7) apps, 8 gls, 3 ass, 0 MoM, 6.96 avg. r.

Total season stats: 32 (7) apps, 13 gls, 5 ass, 1 MoM, 6.64 avg. r.

Rune Lange, Norwegian (1 cap/1 goal), 28y: didn’t played much this season as I don’t need him anymore. I would love to sell him but there aren’t any teams who want him, sad.

Last season stats: 9 (7) apps, 4 gls, 5 ass, 0 MoM, 6.75 avg. r.

Total season stats: 47 (15) apps, 23 gls, 11 ass, 3 MoM, 6.50 avg. r.

Gaston Angel Casas, Argentinian, 27y:: What can I say? Superb season by the Argentinian striker. At €1.5M he was a real bargain if you saw what he did this season. Hopefully I can keep him for a while but Lazio and Milan are very intrested in him.

Last season stats: 39 apps, 30 gls, 14 ass, 8 MoM, 7.69 avg. r.

Guayre, Spanish, 25y: I bought him for €2.2M so that’s another real bargain. I think he will be a great partner for Casas upfront and I expect a lot of goals between them. If I watch him in training I can only be pleased to have such a talented player in my squad.

Last season stats: €2.2M signing from Villarreal.

Roberto Massaro, Italian, 22y: When I received the news that he was released by his former club I was more then happy to lurk him to my team. He will be on the bench for most of the time this season, but when one of the two strikers is injured he will be the first to get on the pitch.

Last season stats: Signed on a free transfer.

Also today I’ve signed Vitaly Kutuzov on a free transfer. He was released by his former club AC Milan and I was the first to offer him a contract. Leeds also tried to get him, but he chose for our club.

Thursday 4th August:

The draw for the Third Qualifying Phase of the Champions Cup was today and I received a message from my assistant manager that we would face either Lithaunian side Kaunas or otherwise it would be Armenian side Pyunik. Both teams shouldn’t be a problem but we can’t be too confident.

We played our last friendly today against Aindling. It was a real trashing for them as Kallstrom, Casas, Ceh, from the spot, Englebert, twice and Massaro, also twice, all scored and the game ended in a 0-7 win for us. I think we are ready for the next season.

Friday 5th August:

The first game of the new season was played today as Germinal Beerschot easily defeated Mouscron with four against one.

Saturday 6th August:

Super Cup Final

Club Brugge vs. Standard

Last meeting: Club Brugge - Standard 1-1

Venue: Jan Breydelstadion: 29958 <pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre"> </pre>Weather: Dry, 17°C

The game got off slowly and the first nice moves of the game came after fifteen minutes. Club Brugge started to control the game and on twenty-one Van der Heyden threw in the ball towards Guayre. He turned nicely with the ball and then he blasted the ball past Telemans to give his team the lead. It was his first goal in his first official game for Brugge. Standard couldn't get Brugge in danger but three minutes after the opening goal Standard took profit of a mistake in Brugge's defence as Dati was unmarked when he fired in the equaliser. The game slowed down and the fans started to think why they came to see this game. The second half wasn't any better as Standard made it impossible for Brugge to play. The game needed a shoot-out to decide the winner. The hero after the penalty shoot-out was new goalkeeper Bizzarri as he made two nice saves to give his team their third Super Cup Trophy in a row.
