Your spider senses could be right! Another great season Raware Quite a lot of draws in the league though. What's this down to? A bit of complacency? Or are the opposition parking several buses?! Cheers AK. I was surprised at the amount of draws we had too. I think it was probably a bit of both complacency and teams playing more defensively against us. With the team now walking the league every year, there must be some boredom creeping into the squad so a bit of competitiveness must be good for the squad. I had a brief spell in South Korea on FM09/FM10 (can't remember which) and enjoyed it then. Pretty impressive stadium, hopefully you can fill it (eventually!) Good luck in Seoul! Thanks AK. We've sold nearly 30000 season tickets and it holds 66080 so it should be at least half full every game. Wow! Now that's a stadium! The club have already played 7 games and despite ‘languishing’ in 8th place, they’re only 3 points off the top, for which the previous manager was sacked for! I come in to the job knowing the pressures and high expectations of this club so I think anything other than a league win will probably see me given my P45. On arrival, the squad looks half decent with some real gems amongst it so I can be confident of at least pushing for a play-off place (top 6 finish). If not then I deserve the sack! Raware Posted June 1, 2011 Author Share Posted June 1, 2011 FC Seoul Season 2031 : Mid-season update South Korean K-League : With the club sitting in 8th place when I took over (even though they were only 3 points off the top), we’re now sitting top of the table as we reach the halfway mark of the season after winning 5, drawing 2 and losing 0 (league games). Much of that is thanks to our two strikers, Karim Amrouche who’s scored 13 goals in 21 games and Kohei Munakata who’s netted 12 goals in 23 games so far. There’s still along way to go yet though and we need to carry on this form into the second half of the season if I want to keep my job. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Raware Posted June 2, 2011 Author Share Posted June 2, 2011 FC Seoul Season 2031 : Review South Korean K-League/South Korean K-League progress/South Korean K-League fixtures : With a fairly decent first half of the season under our belts, we grew in confidence as the season went on and finished top of the table, qualifying for the Playoff Final. The league system works in a similar way to the Australian A-League which I’ve just left in that the teams who finish 6th and 3rd play each other and the teams in 4th and 5th play each other. The winners of those two ties then play each other with the winner of that playing 2nd. Then the winner of that game plays the team who finishes in 1st with the winner of that particular game being crowned as the league champions (so in theory, the team who finishes 6th could still be crowned champions if they go all the way to the final and win it). I’m sure that if we hadn’t of won the title my job would’ve surely been on the line as it sits at insecure at the minute due to my failure in the ACL (despite our league win). South Korean League Cup : The board weren’t bothered about this competition…but I was. Needless to say that I was quite disappointed when we went out to Gyeongnam 2-0 . Asian Champions League/Asian Champions League Group Stage : Our qualification from the group stage was fairly straight forward as we were paired with fellow South Koreans Suwon in the 2nd round. We managed to grind out a tough 1-0 victory over them to set us up with a tough game against Al-Hilal (who I always seem to meet no matter which club I’m with!). It was a two legged affair in which both teams looked very evenly matched but it was the Saudi Arabians who qualified courtesy of the away goals rule . The board were expecting us to at least reach the semi finals in this competition so with us only reaching the quarter finals, this has reduced my job security to insecure. Transfers : I only made one signing this year, that being goalkeeper Park Ji-Won for £425k from Gyeongnam. The other players that joined us were signings from the previous management and honestly, they were all rubbish. Squad : Despite the club winning the league, I do feel that the squad is fairly weak defensively and could use 3 or 4 defenders to bolster the back line. Saying that though, we do have some great players in the form of Kohei Munakata who finished the season as the clubs and leagues top goal scorer as well as claiming the K-League Player of the Year award and Karim Amrouche who went on to score 16 goals for us this season. Finances : Not looking good as we can’t stop losing money. We seriously need to look at getting the wage bill down if we’re wanting to make any kind of profit. It is rather odd how they set their expectations considering there's no seeding...and with Al-Hilal always in the competition and with me always seeming to struggle against them, I can guarantee that I'll meet them early in the competition. Raware Posted June 4, 2011 Author Share Posted June 4, 2011 FC Seoul Season 2032 : Mid-season update South Korean K-League : The pressure is definitely on us to defend our title this year and it’s looking just as close at the top of the table as we hit the half way mark of the season with just 11 points separating the top 6. With each of the top 6 teams looking as if they can beat each other, the title is more than capable of going right down to the wire. One again, we owe a lot to our front two who have been more than reliable in hitting the back of the net as Karim Amrouche has bagged 8 goals in 21 games and Kohei Munakata has grabbed 12 in 20. However, both are continuously whining about moving to bigger clubs, with Kohei Munakata especially moaning as his contract runs out at the end of the season and he’s refusing to sign another one . Raware Posted June 4, 2011 Author Share Posted June 4, 2011 FC Seoul Season 2032 : Review South Korean K-League/South Korean K-League progress/South Korean K-League fixtures : With the league looking as close as ever at the halfway mark, the back end of the season was promising to look just as close…or so we thought. We finished the remainder of the season winning 12 out of our last 14 league games and drawing the other 2 and then beating Jeonbuk 2-1 on aggregate in the K-League play-off final to go on and retain the league title by 11 points . South Korean League Cup : The board weren’t bothered about this competition but I wanted make amends for last years semi final defeat against Gyeognam. We did that as we trounced Pohang 4-0 in the South Korean League Cup final to claim my first South Korean League Cup. South Korean FA Cup : For some reason the South Korean FA Cup is no longer being scheduled and hasn’t been since 2020; definitely a bug. Asian Champions League/Asian Champions League Group Stage : As expected, we qualified from the group stage with relative ease to set up a 2nd round tie against Hong Kong side South China. As a Happy Valley former manager there was nothing more pleasing than dumping them out of the competition, even if we did struggle to get the 1-0 win. This set us up with Chinese Super League side Henan who we comfortably disposed of which then placed us up against my old foe Al-Hilal in the ACL semi final. I was determined to stop the rot of disappointing defeats against them but once again they proved to be my Achilles heel as they sent us packing to go on and win the competition. Pan-Pacific Championship : The board weren’t bothered about this competition and neither was I despite our win to claim our 2nd Pan-Pacific Championship in the clubs history. Transfers : Quite a few new faces joined us this year as I looked to bolster the squad. In came Brazilian Garrinchinha from Desportivo Brasil for £60k, Park Byung-Soo, Claudinho and Lee Min all from troubled K-League side Pohang for a combined fee of 725k, Yusaku Nakanishi who has joint Japanese and South Korean nationality and Park Han-Woong both on free transfers, Kwon Hyun-Doo from Ulsan for £35k, Dejan Stosic who has joint French, Serbian and South Korean nationality from Gyeongnam for £220k and Brazilian born Bruno who also has South Korean nationality from Busan for £650k. Squad : I was very happy with the squad and the editions we made this year and happy that the new players settled in fairly quickly. Kohei Munakata and Karim Amrouche continued where they left off from last season as they scored 41 goals between them while our new signing Yusaku Nakanishi also had an impressive season as he claimed the K-League Foreign Player of the Year. Our goalkeeper Park Ji-Won retained the Goalkeeper of the Year award while our other new signing Lee Min showed his promise as he claimed the K-League Young Player of the Year. As for the future, we’ve got a few players who are 30 or over but the majority of the squad are still in their prime which definitely bodes well for the future. Finances : At least we made a profit this year even if it was just over a million pounds funded mainly by player sales. Last year it was insecure as we went out of the ACL in the quarter finals. Raware, just wondering where you are in the Hall of Fame? I'm top of the English managers Hall Of Fame, top of the Asian Hall Of Fame and 5th in the Worldwide Hall Of Fame . A trophy a season isn't bad if I do say so myself but without sounding too modest, the trophies at Melbourne Victory and Seoul aren't that impressive considering I stepped straight into a big club. The ones i'm really happy with are the first few at Happy Valley as I took over them after they had just been promoted and they were a really poor side. To break the strangle hold that South China had on HK football was pleasing. I think when my time at Seoul is up (maybe in a couple of seasons when my contract expires), i'd like to try something similar to what I did at Happy Valley in taking over a small club again in a small country .
