Acidburn - A little spoiler,we kick off our Europa League campaign at home to Lech in the Playoff!

AK22 - Cheers fella :D I don't think they will trouble me too much this season but Wrexham are the big spenders with £6.5 million while Newport have spent £160k ehile we have spent £5k!

Sunderland - nPower League 1 - Pre-Season - 2027/28

Club Information - Facilities - Boardroom Overview - Expectations

Pre-Season Transfers

A lot of players left as they were not good, not good enough and high wages or just earning too much for my liking but we made £450k off transfers which helped us make a profit on transfers so far which is a rarity for me!We managed to bring in 9 players for the grand total of £5k,out of the 9 players, six of them are current u21 internationals which means they have a bright future at the club. The two to look out for are Joesph Hunt and Basilio Madureira (released by Porto!) as they will be key players this season. So far we have a made a profit of £445k from transfers which is pretty damn good.

Pre-Season Fixtures

Not the best of pre-season results but I didn't really field a strong squad in any of the games so I know we can definitely improve. We all know pre-season doesn't really count anyway!

The Team

Tactics - Team Report

Key Players

Joseph Hunt - GK

I think he is the proof that Mancini had got senile by the end of the season as he sold a u21 international for £5k.He will be a future international if he can fulfill his potential. From his report,he is a consistent performer but his weakness is rushing out so I know what to work on for his training. He is rated as a good Championship goalkeeper so it is brilliant to have someone as good in League 1.Also pleased with how much he cost as I would have had to pay £3 million on a pre-contract but he was transfer listed and was cheap due to being in his last year.

Andre DaCosta - DLC

Solid centre back who will be first choice for the next season and will easily be good enough for League 1 as he is a regarded as a leading League 1 player.A regular in the England u19 team who always makes himself known in important matches and is very quick to gather loose balls. My only concern is that he is quite the hot head as he received 7 yellow cards and a red card so hopefully he can try and keep it cleaner this season.Looks like he will play for England in the future even though he was born in Bull Bay,Jamaica.

Jay Clarke - MC,MR

He is probably the second best player in the team behind Keith Peters.Clarke is rated as a leading Championship player, has good speed but is weak in the air but I don't really expect him to do many aerial battles though as he is more of the attacking MC.He performance's last season saw him called up to the England u21 squad where he appeared twice and scored twice.I feel he will take the Europa League by storm this season as he is a cup specialist which includes both goals against Newcastle!Hopefully his form will continue this season.

Keith Peters - ST

Was last seasons top scorer with 50 goals which was a brilliant return from the youngster. His main strengths are speed and consistency with his weaknesses being jumping and aerial ability.I would personally put penalties into his strengths as he doesn't miss,7 penalties and 7 goals last season which to me is on Mario Balotelli level! Now an England u21 international with 4 caps and 2 goals which is pretty amazing. This season I will be happy with 20-25 goals from him but if he performs like last season then he will probably get 50+ due to added games due to participation in Europe!

Manager's Thoughts

To say I am pumped up for this season is an understatement,I cannot wait to take on the Europa League and I think we will do alright to be and could possibly be among the top teams in a group but that depends on if we can get there and who we draw.I will be looking for good cup runs this season to keep the finances in tact in which hopefully the attendances will be up on last season as that will help increase the income.I've kept the finances lower than needed so I can adjust them if things go badly wrong so we are in a good position. As for the league, well we are predicted for 20th place which means we just avoid relegation,I feel we will be fighting for a playoff spot at minimum as I am a lot more optimistic than the media!

No upgrades have been made to facilities and coaching as I feel we don't necessarily need them as we are at a good enough level for a few more seasons,I won't need to upgrade them till we are in the Premiership. My contract is till 2030 but I feel I will stay longer than that as this is a good challenge compared to previous challenges which were far too easy for my liking. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter,we are slowly becoming as good as we were once and I will take over Newcastle to mock them some more after last season!Let the fun and games begin!

Cheers fella :D We won the second leg 2-1 so we go through as 5-2 winners.

As for the group stage,we're were seeded second which I don't understand as I thought we should have been 4th!We've been drawn against Genk,Ternana and Buducnost.I really only know about Genk so I am pretty clueless with regards to the other two teams

What a brilliant season, especially that cup run. I love those players you brought in, once you make it to the PL there won't be any need to buy players, all of them will have already been developed by you. Good luck in Europe this season!

the last two clubs you've been at have made this a brilliant read - definitely my favourite thread out there at the moment :D. Can't quite believe all of the achievements you've managed, doing seriously well over there

Acidburn - In the draw,I honestly believe Ternana will be the strongest then us or Genk followed by Buducnost.Never thought I'd see the day when the English representatives in the competition are ourselves,Burnley and Newcastle!

Trilderos - Cheers fella :D I feel my World Class Rep has helped massively, their decision to joining the club was working for me.Think I only really need a decent back up keeper and we will be set but I will carry on my transfer strategy of buying youngsters as it has helped at previous clubs!

b101 - Thanks mate :D I normally keep them fired up as morale is important for me as that helps our run to keep going.I honestly hated HSV when I was at Bayern as they kept doing me over and I don't think I will ever forget being on the wrong side of a cup upset against Aue

Manager's Thoughts

A very impressive first month,we won three out of three in the league although the players do need to pick up their performances as we are not finishing as well as we should be.Keith Peters continues his streaks with penalties which is up to 5 for his career without missing!Europa League was the big story for us as we beat Polish side Lech in the Playoff with a 5-2 aggregate victory. We've been drawn into a group with Ternana,Genk and Buducnost which outside Genk is an unusual group as Ternana are making their first appearance in Europe and Buducnost have never made the group stages before!

September is quite a busy month for cup competitions as we have to play in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 1st round against Rotherham in which I will be looking at defending the trophy which is definitely achievable due to having a stronger squad than last season. We have the Carling Cup to play in as well as we travel to London again but this time we face Chelsea who are the current reigning Premiership champions! We kick off the group stages with ties against Ternana and Genk,if we can get results in these two games then we stand a massive chance of qualifying! The league is a bit quieter as we play two games which are against Cambridge and Nottingham Forest, looks like the games will start piling up quite quickly!

Manager's Thoughts

Well that was quite a frustrating month. We drew both games in the league as we just couldn't finish our chances especially in the Cambridge game where we had over 20 shots! The Capital One Cup was an absolute disaster and a very spineless performance even if was against Chelsea, there was no excuse for what I witnessed.Made a winning start in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy against Rotherham,it was extremely comfortable and we could even have won by more.Europa League saw us face probably the two hardest teams in the group,to beat Ternana 3-0 on their own ground then beat Genk 4-0 is absolutely stunning and gives us a bit more money in the bank!

October is quite a busy month with 7 games and we really need to kick it up a notch in the league after the poor performances of September. We have five league games and I want a minimum of 10 points from them!We only have two cup games in October,we are away to Notts County in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy which will be a tight game as they are not a bad side but just had a below average start. The other cup game is in the Europa League as we face Buducnost at home,I felt that this was the easier game when the draw was made,if we can win it then that gives us 9 points and a massive chance of going through to the knockout stages!I really do hope we can kick it up a notch as I know we are not performing to our fullest!

Dexter_Morgan - It maybe hideous but the sadistic part of me is actually enjoying it.The annoying thing about the Chelsea game was that the scorers were Elvis Tetteh and Richard Oatway.Tetteh was at FS Stars when I was there and Oatway was a Bayern Munich youth product when I was there and they score against their former manager!

Raware - I know,it's just a false position for now :D For the most part no,Everton are down here due to financial difficulties, most of the others have had many years of under performing and not strengthening.Makes it interesting when you have the likes of Newport and Wrexham spending loads!

Manager's Thoughts

A very short month due to international call ups and re arranged games so we ended up with four games for the month. We finally kicked it up a notch in the league as we beat second place Doncaster 5-1 which can be seen as a statement of intent to the rest of the league while we destroyed Coventry 6-1 which has really helped our goal difference. We made more progress in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as we beat Notts County 4-0 and I didn't even need need to start Keith Peters!Europa League saw another victory although it was probably over the weakest team in the group as we made it 3/3 and top the group,if we can win the return game then we will have qualified!

November is a busier month on paper with 9 games in 28 days! This will change due to internationals and re-arranging fixtures so even I don't know how many we will actually play! The only games I know we will play are the Europa League against Buducnost,Oldham in the FA Cup and Ipswich in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Not sure how many we will play in the league but we need to continue to wrack up the points to help in my quest for a playoff spot which isn't too far off.Wrexham will definitely be a big problem when we get round to them!

Manager's Thoughts

We continued our impressive run so far this season as we made it 4 wins out of 4 in the Europa League which meant we will be playing in Europe after Christmas! The FA Cup was a simple run in which Oldham never really threatened,we also progressed in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy as we easily beat Ipswich to move on to the North semi-final.The league I give it a average grade as our attacking force was pretty brilliant but our defence did make silly mistakes but I can let them off as we are still unbeaten in the league although we have a lot of games to catch up on!

December should see us start catching up on some games as we play 8 in 26 days which is pretty hectic. We have the remaining two Europa League games against Genk and Ternana in which I will be looking to get results for financial reasons. We are away to Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup which should be a winnable game as they are one of the weaker teams in the league but I can't take anything for granted. We have five games in the league in which I will be looking at eleven points, the major game in the league is our return match against Everton which will be at the Stadium of Light. All I can say is bring it on!

Link to post

I think my league form is starting to suffer due to so many games.Although I am still confident of a playoff spot and possibly promotion. On the other hand,Europe has been brilliant,we topped the group with 6 out of 6 for wins!

We now face Terek in the first knockout round. The winner will then face Spartak Moscow or AS Saint-Ettienne,I am pretty optimistic we can win the 1st knockout round but not so optimistic that I could win the 2nd Knockout Round!

I am actually classified as untouchable :D I think that is because the board only want us to avoid relegation, reach the 2nd round of the Carling and FA Cup and learn from the experience of participation in the Europa League,so far we are far exceeding all expectations!

Manager's Thoughts

Very good performances in the cup but we were below par in the league. The FA Cup against Sheffield Wednesday was quite comfortable despite the close scoreline so we move onto the 3rd round which will be played in January. We finished the Europa League group stage in style as we beat Ternana and Genk to finish top of the group with a 100% record and I think we have made nearly £1 million from results and position finish in the group stage! The League was quite a terrible win,we were abysmal against Sheffield Wednesday,MK Dons and Hereford. No idea how we beat Everton, the only game we played well was in the game against Crawley, unfortunately we will lose our fitness due to fixture pile up so the ball is in Wrexham's court!

January is a pretty busy month with nine games to be played in 28 days!We have two cup games at the moment which could lead to more league games being rearranged and cause an even bigger pile up.We face Tranmere in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy,we win that and we will receive a two legged tie!The FA Cup sees us drawn away to Chesterfield which is basically a rematch of last season's FA Cup 6th round match.Hopefully with having so many home games,we should be able to pick up a few points to help push for a playoff spot. The games we have shouldn't be too difficult and I do believe we could pick up 14 or 15 points but that will be dependent on if we progress in the cups!Overall,I want the players to pick up their performance as we drop any more points then it will be extremely difficult.

Cheers fella :D

It will be a difficult and I am expecting to drop some points over the rest of the season. We're very close to a playoff spot so a few more victories and draws and we should easily get a playoff spot.

Cheers fella :D

I'm actually enjoying so far  We've only played 37 games so far,by the end of January we would have played 38 games, god knows how many games we will eventually hit but we're on a mini FA Cup run, beat Chesterfield 3-1 and then drew 4-4 against Spurs at Perryman Stadium.

Manager's Thoughts

Now that is what I am talking about,we had a fantastic month in general. We progressed in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy where we were very unlucky not to win it normal time as we had four goals disallowed! The FA Cup has saw us beat Chesterfield in a rematch of last season and it was by the same exact scoreline as well which is pretty freaky,we had a cracker in the 4th round as we drew with Spurs 4-4,we were 1-0 down, then 3-1 up before going down 4-3 before we equalized to keep any hopes alive. The league saw some brilliant form which has seen us hit 7th place which puts us right in contention now and we still have eleven games in hand!Credit to Nottingham Forest who at least tried to make it a game as they attacked us and defended heroically!

February sees our massive amount of fixtures continue as we play eleven times in 27 days which I feel will really affect the players quite a lot! This can still change due to competing in Cup competitions on three fronts,we have a two legged affair against Barnsley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy,we have the FA Cup 4th round replay against Spurs which is at the Stadium of Light and I do believe we can win!Europa League also kicks back off and we have a lot of travelling to do as we face Terek in a two legged match which I feel is very winnable. In amongst all the cup competitions,we still have six league games to play which could see putting pressure on Nottingham Forest and Dag & Red,I will even accept grinding out results as this month will be very tiresome on my players. Here we go!

Manager's Thoughts

That's the first of the extremely busy months over and done with!We made progress in the Europa League as we pushed Terek aside with an 8-1 aggregate win which also netted us another £173k for the bank.We won the FA Cup 4th round replay against Spurs as we showed we can go toe to toe with some of the best in top flight and now we move on to the 5th round which has been re-arranged for March as we couldn't fit the game in!We also won our Johnstone's North final with a 5-1 aggregate victory which means we will be travelling to Wembley again! The league saw us pick up twelve points from five games and has seen us shove our way into a playoff spot and now knocking on the door for a top two spot. Can't blame ourselves for dropping points against Portsmouth as our players are starting to look tired.

March is the 2nd of the extremely busy months as we play 13 games in 29 days which is very troublesome as my squad isn't exactly that big!We kick off the month playing our 5th round FA Cup tie as we face Arsenal in a rematch of last season's final,we do have the home advantage which should help our finances. We also have the two legs in the Europa League 2nd Knockout round as we face Spartak Moscow which will be a lot tougher than the Terek game but the way we've played,we could possibly stun them. The League is a nightmare,we have ten league games to play, with these games we could possibly get into 2nd place if we can win some of the games in hand.We also face Wrexham for the first time this season and they do have a healthy lead over Dag and Red so they will be tough. My main problem will come down to fitness as I don't know how my players will cope,I will be more than happy with grinding out results.
