As the initial annoyance dies down I can very much see ACou's point to be honest, personally I don't think it is right to compare it to Beckham, they're very different people with different agendas.

But then I also agree with the others that he's gone about it entirely the wrong way and it does appear to be a way of him getting the move that he wanted.

So yeah, I'm fence sitting icon_frown.gif

It really is ridiculous that, prior to the World Cup, almost every England fan disliked Hargreaves, yet paying 13m is now considered acceptable. Portugal's head coach, Luis Felipe Scolari, appears to have made another enemy by accusing Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant, Carlos Queiroz, of being underhand and economical with the truth in an escalating row about Cristiano Ronaldo's fitness.

In a sustained and typically outspoken attack Scolari also alleged that Queiroz is orchestrating a campaign to replace him as Portugal's head coach. He claimed that the man who preceded him in the job from 1991 to 1993 was "using the media" to promote himself and questioned why Queiroz repeatedly turned up at their Under-21 games.

"I don't understand his [Queiroz's] role in football but it seems to me that he is trying to return to the Portuguese national team, where I am already in charge," said Scolari. "It seems he is working on his candidacy for the position of national coach."

Queiroz has not responded to the allegations other than to point out that he is fully entitled to watch Portugal's younger players as part of his job. "We have a constant strategy whereby we always have a number of players we examine and give our attention," he said.

He has repeatedly been linked with vacancies away from Old Trafford, the latest being that of US national coach, but has often stated that he has no desire to leave England. United are dismayed by Scolari's handling of the matter, however, not least because Ronaldo returned from Wednesday's 3-0 defeat of Kazakhstan with a twisted ankle. The 21-year-old was withdrawn 56 minutes into the Euro 2008 qualifier having exacerbated an injury he picked up in United's 1-0 win at Blackburn. An ice pack was used to reduce the swelling.

Photographs of him grimacing in pain will cause United consternation before their game at Sheffield United tomorrow, particularly as Ferguson and Queiroz had questioned at the start of the week whether he should be withdrawn from the Portugal squad. "Ronaldo was fine to play," said Scolari, the man who this year turned down the chance to be England manager. "The issue here is that Queiroz has to maintain his image in front of the Manchester United fans. Publicly he said Cristiano was injured but, to us, he said he was well and that he would be OK to play. It is all a question of image."

Ronaldo will be tested today to determine if he can play tomorrow but United have one eye on Tuesday's Champions League tie at Celtic and may rest him anyway. Ryan Giggs is another concern, coming off at half-time in Wales's 4-0 defeat of Liechtenstein with an ankle problem.

Bayern Munich have warned Manchester United that €30m (£20.3m) in January would not be enough to tempt them to sell Owen Hargreaves, the 25-year-old England midfielder who is currently sidelined after breaking a leg two months ago. "We have thought about what to do if Manchester United make a good offer but we will not sell him," said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the Bayern president.

Back operation for Terry

Chelsea captain John Terry has undergone a successful operation on his back.

Terry has missed the club's last four games with the complaint, but underwent surgery on the problem on Thursday.

The club have confirmed the operation was a success, but have not put a timescale on when the defender will be fit to return.

"The operation to remove a sequestrated lumbar intervertebral disc was successful and everyone at the club wishes John a speedy and full recovery."

During Terry's absence, Chelsea have kept just one clean sheet in four games - the 1-0 Carling Cup win over Newcastle United.

In the three Premiership fixtures Terry has missed, The Blues have conceded two goals in each match and now trail Manchester United by four points in the title race.

he is the one person I just completely want to leave the club entirely so I never ever have to see his face again.

O'Shea I will always have some appreciation for because at least he was great - one year. Silvestre was pretty decent for a time and has done some good things down the years.

Richardson has NEVER been anything more than lower league level sh*te and all he's done is score a couple of long rangers - even they dont always deserve to go in.

The fact that even now he's worse than Silvestre/O'Shea/combined sums it up.

I had the exact same thought during the match. I think his qualites at breaking up play would have suited a match like this perfectly. Their midfield became more increasingly in control as the match went on - I think he would make a telling difference.

The match was so so annoying but kind of predictable. Still, I'd have taken maintaining the six point gap before the weekend.

James and Keyser worse than me by a mile. Getting ****ed off during a match because his poor passing or finishing is hardly hate.

My stance has always been that hes a good squad player but really needs to work on his end product.

People say Giggs was awful yesterday, but some of his and Evra's link up play in the first half was fb.

Evra becoming first choice over Gabby possibly the least expected thing to have EVER happened during my time as a United supporter. He was utterly utterly utterly abysmal at the start, and Gabby was fb.

Top class performance in first half, took our foot off the gas in the second. I don't think anyone can say anthing else about Ronaldo, his overall contribution today was outstanding and (I'll probably get stick for saying this but ah well) I REALLY liked seeing him in the middle driving towards defenders and them not having a clue which way he was going to go.

Rooney had his best game in ages and took his goals really well, especially his second and he looked like the Wazza of old (lets just hope this continues). Also thought Park and Carrick both had very good games, Park in the first half worked his socks off and deserved his two goals and Carrick did well to stop balls being threaded into Anelka and Diof. The back four looked top notch again Heinze had another good game at left back (we have some excellent competition with him and paddy in this position), Rio & Vida had their usual top class game and never put a foot wrong and Wes was back to his best.

Only real thing that unerved me today was Kuszack, cant remember him doing that much wrong tbf, but every time theres a cross into the box , he looks as if he's going for it and then goes back on his line, it must be a nightmare for Rio & Vida as they dont know if he's coming for the cross or not.

Said before this that the Blackurn game was worrying me more than this and I still belive that is a tough game, with the form they are in , just hope Wayne & Ronnie rip them to shreds like they did today.

2nd: Rooney/Park/Carrick

Affg: Not sure, didn't really get a good view of it, will comment more after Motd.

Bolton fans so awfully crap, soon as third goal went in saw a few go down stairs in their enclosure into the concourse's . We out sung their support in first half, I don't remeber that happening before (maybe bar Liverpool this season), or at least thats what it sounded like from North Stand, Such small time supporters.

well we spent £12.5m on Ronaldo wasn't it. That appeared to be quite expensive at the time but has turned out to be an absolute snip.

Both of these players are being signed on deals which will no doubt see a lot of the money played dependant upon future success. Future success that if they do provide will no doubt be worth every penny. Also from what I've read its about 25 million euros for each of them. Which is possibly slightly overpriced but damn sure beats Shevchenko at £30m.

Building such an awesome team for the future.
