The Manchester United thread 2006/2007 - featuring BBB leaving early

tbh Gooners will laugh at us for signing Mascherano for £15m as they were able to snap up Rosicky of £8m.

We'll get laughed at by all for signing Carrick for £15m.

We'll get laughed at for a multitude of reasons if we sign Torres, Klose, Ribery, Diarra, Yaya, or Zakora.

We cannot right off players just because their arrival will make the others laugh.

And I know a few Scousers and Gooners who wouldn't mind Hargreaves playing for them.

The other great thing about them, is when they use quotes to make things up.

They'll pull two lines out of an interview, talking about two different things, put them together and come up with instant quote and massive new story.

I fully believe that If papers provide quotes from anybody, they should also provide the question the personw as asked as part of the quote.

When we won the CL in 99 we went all out to win games and score lots of goals. It's the cautious crap that made a mockery of us in Europe last season. Games at OT against Lille and Villarreal when we sat back and payed them too much respect.

United Interested in loads of Portugese children icon14.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Manchester United are understood to be keeping a close eye on the progress of a number of the talented young crop of players at Sporting Lisbon.

Reports in the Portuguese press claim that United despatched a scout to Lisbon last weekend to take in Sporting's league clash with Pacos de Ferreira.

Sporting actually slipped to a 1-0 home reverse in the match, but United's intended targets all got a run-out.

The Premiership outfit were believed to be running the rule over centre back Miguel Veloso (20), midfielder Joao Moutinho (20, pictured), left winger Nani (19) and striker Djalo (20).

Veloso, Moutinho and Nani all played the full 90 minutes, while Djalo was summoned from the bench at half time as Sporting searched for a goal.

All four of the quartet have come through Sporting's youth system, a production line that also developed the skills of current United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

United have a good relationship with the Portuguese club, especially following the transfer of Ronaldo, and are now looking to ensure they are at the head of the queue for any emerging stars.

However, they are not the only club monitoring Sporting's latest batch of prospects with, unsurprisingly, Chelsea and European champions Barcelona also keeping up to speed with developments at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Chelsea director of football Frank Arnesen has also visited the Portuguese capital this season to make a personal check on Sporting's youngsters, while Barca - who along with Chelsea are known to be chasing Porto's highly-rated Brazilian teenager Anderson - are keeping tabs as well.

Sporting have refused to comment on the speculation, with a spokesperson stating: "No club has contacted us on this subject."

Would still have been nice to see Ronaldo actually attack the full backs instead of cutting in.

Also, how many corners do we need before we learn how to get the ball past the first man?

if you take what you expect to happen to us, losing two more games before the end of the season is likely, especially with us going to Chelsea. But to take that in isolation as the lead gone assumes Chelsea dropping no more points, which isn't likely at all. They're in worse form than us at the moment, still have injuries, and have two, probably three, extra games coming up with the Carling Cup. So you could even say it's not unreasonable to expect that the lead could grow before it starts to shrink.

None of that is to say i'm confident, just to say there's too many twists and turns to come to start worrying as well.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> ********IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR LIVERPOOL FANS********

Following the recent takeover of Liverpool FC, the new owners - George Gillet and Tom Hicks - wish to reassure fans that the history and worldwide reputation of the club will not be taken for granted, and that they wish to fully recognise and honour the traditions of the club. For example, talks are ongoing with Adidas to produce a new Liverpool FC home shirt for the 2007-2008 Champions League season containing not only the 5 gold stars over the club crest, but 39 coffins underneath it in order to fully recognise all of Liverpool FC's achievements in Europe. Rumors of the shirt containing 5 black stars (one for every year English clubs were banned from Europe) and the words "It wasn't us, it was all Chelsea fans, lah" on the club crest are unfounded.

Additionally, it has been reported that the fans of Liverpool FC are concerned that relocating to a new stadium will result in a loss of the 'special' atmosphere for visitors to Anfield, for which Liverpool supporters are renowned all over Europe. The new owners would like to reassure Liverpool supporters that they will do their utomst to retain this 'special' atmosphere by allowing all supporters who are serving ASBOs or suspended sentences to sit in the tier directly above the away supporters for a reduced price - on production of a valid Giro slip. The club will also provide cups of urine - free of charge - for supporters on the first 2 rows of the upper tier. In addition to this generous package, the club will ensure that all fans are provided with at least 2 stanley knife blades (separated by a matchstick) and a brick upon exiting the stadium, where a club official will distribute detailed maps of the visiting fans' police escort route back to the city centre. Of course, the club would like to remind supporters that this exclusive package comes at a price and therefore, cuts must be made elsewhere in the budget. As a result, we are cutting the matchday police costs by ensuring that Merseyside police allow only the most dim-witted, baton-happy officers to patrol the stadium and surrounding areas on a matchday - which has always been the case at Anfield. In addition, Merseyside police have promised that supporters of Liverpool FC will be given total immunity from prosecution for football-related disorder.

I hope that this letter will dispel your fears over the recent takeover and thankyou for your continued and loyal support. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Smith must play. Regardless of any other considerations, assuming Larsson isn't staying, he needs games to be ready should he be needed in the run in, and much as i'd love us to do well in the FA Cup, this is the least important game between now and the end of the season in which to play him.
