Nick OGS20
jeez, i'd forgotten how nervy run-of-the-mill home games get when you're challenging for the title. that really was your typical 'ground out win when playing poor'. best thing to take out of it is that we'd quite likely have drawn that last year. feel sorry for Ali having his first game in ages be that dire. Saha was utterly abysmal, worst i've ever seen him play - no first touch, no movement, no effort or workrate and never looked like scoring the chances he had. Giggs wasn't an awful lot better. even Scholesy was poor by his standards. really can't think of anyone who stood out, bar Henke when he came on (such a class act. Saha should be made to watch videos of him for 10 hours a day). Fletch had a decent game, getting reeeeeeally ****ed off at the way he gets stick for any/everything, usually unjustified. delighted to see him get a goal, might have celebrated that a bit excessively. Park's header was surprisingly good as well, excellently placed. atmosphere was woeful first half, f**k off with that 'stand up and support your team' crap already. dunno whether it was sandy busby and robbo appearing at half-time or a conscious decision to make some noise to keep warm and entertain ourselves (because the game sure as hell wasn't doing that) but it was MUCH better second half, the 15 minute or so version of the calypso was ace. Song wasn't bad, better than i've seen of him for Arsenal but still nothing special. no idea what Wenger sees in him. immense swallow dive during the first half as well. Bougherra was pretty good, although my nan could have marked Saha out of the game today. Zhi was pretty much anonymous.

I also love the Kanchelskis hat-trick in the 5-0 win over City. Especially the goal where he plays the one-two with Cantona but has run the whole length of the pitch in about 3 seconds to get back on the end of it. Young Jimlad
What Nick said basically about the atmosphere and type of game it was today, glad we won but we were several notches short of coming anywhere near a decent performance. Luckily Charlton are pretty much utter pap, despite us being annoyingly wasteful for long periods. Park, Fletch & Kanchelskis love MOM is a tricky one today just because of the style of game, and almost everyone ****ed about at one point or another. I guess I remember thinking more often than not that Rio did pretty much everything right today, so I’ll give it to him. Second place I’m tempted to give to Larsson since he was quality when he came on, especially when he lobbed the ball way up in the air and then moved to receive it himself even though it wasn’t his original intention, but I actually think I’m going to give it to JSP, just for the work he put in and the fact that he was involved in a few of our better moves and the goal as well. But given that we weren’t putting a whole lot of cohesive stuff together I could quite easily given it to one of a few other players. MOM: Rio Ferdinand 2ND: JSP More moderate rotation for Reading next week. Saha to play some part just to get him back in the swing of things a bit more before Lille, Ole/Larsson to be involved as well. Fletch & JSP to start again. Gabby in for Evra. Don’t think any of that’s out of the question. Finally, glad in some respects that we’ve got three away fixtures after the cup game, even if they are tricky because the pitch looked **** today and it could do with some rehab.
