LPQR
December 2027 a very busy season for us so far, given the number of competitions we're playing in. We're doing well in the league, albeit winning matches with some minimal scores. 6 more matches to play after the break, and then the playoffs, so it's early to make predictions, but I can see us finishing well if we improve our game further Europe I was delighted with the win against Anderlecht as well as with the draw against Man Utd, as we were big underdogs in both encounters. Painful losing like that to Ajax, but it's important not to forget we're still very young and nowhere near the level of the Dutch giants these results mean we finish 3rd in the group: we qualify for Europa League as a result, and the draw is as tough as it gets:
LPQR
February 2028 Europa League First Knock-out Round after registering a decent performance in the first leg where we were beaten 2-1, Roma completely tore into us in the second leg and we're out of the Europa League yet again... Can't really blame the boys as we were big underdogs for this tie, however I'm hoping for a little bit more luck in future draws [edit] the match was attended by the Romanian NT boss, and it looks like we might have a number of debutantes in the near future

LPQR
June 2028 - Season Review Champions Playoff Final League Table A fantastic season for us which means we've now won back to back the League and the Romanian Cup. Our performance in the Champions League has been the particular highlight of the season, as we made it to the group stage despite all expectations. Slightly unlucky in the Europa League draw, but that's football and we'll hope for better luck next year if we have a similar progression in Europe Squad Awards Key Players Ciprian Kereszy Cezar Dobre Tiberiu Vladila Cornel Marin Fantastic performances from these four this season. Sparta's golden boys, Kereszy, Dobre and Vladila lead the way with some fantastic attacking displays. They have now matured into what can easily be considered the backbone of this team. Shame about Kereszy's injur proneness as he missed a big part of the league games this year, however given the number of competitions we were involved in he still managed 31 appearances during which he registered a highly impressive average rating of 7.40. Marin stole Penescu's place at right back this year and he impressed a lot, given his much better defensive ability and an imposing physique. Youth Prospects Alexandru Negruț Florin Stuparu We only have two U18 players that have been given a chance in the first team this year, as our squad is getting increasingly larger and older. Alexandru is that very Moldovan guy that I was excited about in last year's intake. He has come out of nowhere to be rated as the most exciting young player in the squad as well as a potentially really well rounded defender. Stuparu is the revelation of this year, as his development boomed up after he was given a first team role. His contribution might have been just about decent, however his stats have improved to the point where club legend, Alexandru Nica seems like a reserve option when compared to him. Really excited about his future, as he's already considered to be a very good player for Liga I standards, and I'm very happy I've got a player like him in the squad given our limited attacking options. Youth Intake A fantastic intake marked by recruitment of three very exciting players, out of which the left defender seems to be the best and the most encouraging one, as we really lacked numbers or quality in that position. Good attributes for the key areas I'm looking for in my team as well as some good depth, however.... no decent attacking players yet again.... I might have to re-train some of my wingers into forwards or attacking mids as we can't rely on one or two players to constantly do all the magic. Romeo Voican Costin Plopeanu Angelo Boiangiu all three look fantastic, and Boiangiu could make his way to the first team pretty soon, despite the already massive number of talented players we have in that position. A potential top box-to-box midfielder for this level, I'm really excited about how he'll develop. Plopeanu might be re-trained to full-back due to how well his stat distribution fits that role. Club Developments a massive increase in numbers in our commercial department due to the fantastic European campaign this season another set of facilities upgrades to be completed by mid-season next year, as well as a much awaited stadium expansion which will see us play our matches at Steaua's 28.000 capacity stadium next year, as our Sparta Bucuresti stadium will be closed for works in other news, Liga I gets another CL place! and the highly impressive European campaign we've had this season means we've moved up a few dozen places in the European rankings as well

Following for a while now. thanks and good to have you around we haven't really made any money from sales yet as I've tried to keep my best players at the club, sometimes even at the cost of them being unhappy for entire seasons. Due to the club recruiting better and better players as the years went by, a lot of previous potential stars were now considered mere reserve choices. As a result, a lot of players have been let go on free transfers (averaging 8 per season), as the Romanian market isn't really abundant in cash. Our biggest transfer ever is Sorin Stefan's departure to ACS Berceni for 115k. We've had a bid of 4 Million for Constantin Ivan (our ML/LB) this summer, however I have no reason to sell him as our finances are great and I don't have good enough options left to cover his absence. 18 minutes ago, ExiledKopite said: Outstanding thread LPQR - inspiring to see somebody make such a success out of a small Romanian team! Remember that this is Romania, and you don't get amazing superstars through intakes even when you reach the top football level in your nation. In FM terms, Romania is ranked lower than for example England, France, Spain or the top footballing nations in the chances of producing high-level talent. LPQR
August 2028 Tactical Re-vamp We've been sticking to our fancy, knee-twisting 4-1-2-2-1 for a few years now, and it has undoubtedly been one of the most successful and interesting as well as challenging systems I've developed in FM. Very tricky to get right when it comes to getting player movement/roles set up correctly, however I feel we've done more than a good enough job in the last 5 years using it. This is the final version of the system that won us 5 trophies in two years: compared to the previous version, which used a SS(A) and a F9(S) instead of an AM(a) and DF(s), these changes happened for a number of reasons: Kereszy needed to have more influence in midfield due to his great passing skills and lack of finishing/off the ball, thus a change to AM seemed perfect. Now what we lacked was that incisiveness in the final third I kept talking about. Changing the striker role from F9 to DF seemed to alter the height of our A-line, as the forward would come back really deep to defend, thus Kereszy(AM) would be positioned ahead of the forward in most of the counter-attacking situations. Given that both of them were still not close enough to the opposition goal to provide an effective threat, the D-line has been pushed up a notch. The defensive forward role was what got Nica, a club legend, however a third-rate striker by Liga I standards to score 44 goals in 55 appearances two years ago. He drops deep, roams from position and is everywhere on the pitch helping the team create extra pressure when chasing the ball. So yeah, all well and good, why change what works already? While we were creating some beautiful attacking moves (i'll post a couple of gifs later) and pulling players out of position like mushrooms from a basket, we had a few defensive problems: - the left flank was a massive problem, as I needed my IF to be on attack duty, and thus the fullback supporting him and defending the miles of space the IF leaves on the left wing. Now our best player in that position, Ivan, is actually incredibly bad at defending: tackling - 7; positioning - 10;, marking - 11; bravery - 9 - the fullback role wasn't making him advance enough forward, while the wing-back role made him very (very!) irresponsible in defence, as well as having that crossing issue discussed earlier. Additionally, that gap on the left put a lot of pressure on the LCM who had to commit to the left a lot, leaving open space in the middle for the opposition to exploit - as much as I loved watching the football we where playing, I had to accept the fact that our players might be good enough to pull off that kind of style in the league, where the opposition would be more or less of our level, however even there it was far from perfect. We made a lot of mistakes due to players not making the right runs, decisions, dwelling too much on the ball, and so on. These are issues related to the overall tactical and technical ability of the players and it was plain to see we were missing the quality to make it tick like it was supposed to tick. - our increasing presence in European Football means we'll face, in most cases, opposition that is better than us... most of the times miles better. So we need a system that is articulated to that position and allows us to exploit the best out of our team with minimal chance for error. - one of the key players for this system, the WP is actually better suited for a Winger role due to his relatively poor passing(12) and much better crossing (14) - we've had a number of exciting prospects at CM or DM positions come through the intakes in the last years and I want to exploit that Pastures New having re-analysed the squad, I noticed that most of our central midfielders have a really good physique and defensive skills whilst also being able to perform in the DM positions too. This means I can spread out the defensive responsibility a bit more, by providing further cover to our defensive line using my midfielders. Two of our strongest players (Vladila and Dobre) are wide players and they're most suited to the Winger role due to relatively poor physique, but good technical stats and speed. Additionally, we've improved a lot technically over the last few years and we have some really good overall stats for passing and decisions as a team, and especially in midfield. So this is the new set-up - stay narrower as a team and relatively deep to form a compact block of players defending and looking to quickly transition to attack when getting the ball back. The fluid team shape helps us in both scenarios - Wide players are positioned fairly narrow when defending to help the team challenge for possession in midfield if needed, but run wide when attacking - the DM's get further forward when the team is in posession or attacking transition, especially the right DM who has PI to 'get further forward'. The player in that position (Nicola) has very good stats for speed, as he will have to act as a defensive minded box-to-box midfielder in this system - Kereszy's creative ability is exploited to its' maximum in this system as he is the central focus of the attacks. Dropping in holes, dictating play, making decisive passes, as well as getting into the final third, he really is the key player of this system. - the focus of the attacks will look to alternate between channeling play centrally via our playmakers or exploiting the pace and technical ability of the wide players, depending on the situation of play - the CWB's are the initial experimental idea for the full-back role, as both the FB and WB role configuration and how they made my players move have really disappointed me so far. Given the additional protection we get via the DM's we can afford our players in that position to venture forward a bit more and contribute to the midfield too when in possession or attacking - simplified player movement and roles, allow for a reduction in the number of mistakes that over-specialization and too much reliance on complex player movement brought before. Stay disciplined as a squad and look for space to pass into with a calm, normal tempo. typical transitions defensive phase attacking phase example of narrow, compact shape when defending: 10 men behind the ball and the AP getting involved in challenging the opposition for possession example of team being spread out in attacking situation: notice the RW and LW making wide runs and the DM(S) steps un midfield to help the team create pressure in the opposition half
LPQR
August 2028 European Journey Due to the low rankings of the league last year, we still have to go through the qualifying rounds in CL, despite winning the league. Round 2 confident performance here as we were favourites. Starting from the second leg I started to experiment with the system described above, so we made a few mistakes here and there, but we're through Round 3 Still experimenting tactically at this point, we pull off a massive 8-0 win at home to give us the luxury of playing some of the younger players in the second leg Playoff Maccabi again! huh, well, this year we won a lot more convincingly and we're off to the group stage yet again! ...... aaand we're out of the CL! I don't even want to say anything... Our star player is proving to be a wanted man, attracting offers from some of the top clubs in Europe. I'm lucky he still has some time left on his deal and I really hope I can keep him as he's fundamental to this squad. LPQR
player spotlight - Florin Stuparu part of the 2026 intake, Florin is a player who was once rated as a mere potential rotation option. His development since he was brought to the first team is nothing short of sensational, as he scored 18 goals for us last season and has 13 to his name in as many appearances this term. His outstanding finishing as well as his ability to play with both feet has been of particular importance in that regard, and he is now thought to be one of the most promising stars of the squad according to our scouts. noikeee
Starting to dominate Romania, starting to make the CL group stages... all looks pretty good. I have one tactical question though, people in the Tactics Forum in the past have told me that width (the play narrower/wider instruction) makes no difference to the shape whilst defending, and only affects shape with the ball... but your new tactic seems to rely on an assumption that the opposite will happen! You're using "much narrower" to keep a tight shape when defending, yet still expect to unleash both attacking wingers when transitioning to attack... how is this possible? And I'm actually not sure that's what I'm seeing in the screenies, the wingers seem to take a mildly neutral position in both screenies, neither particularly narrow or wide? I'm just rather confused about this setting and would like to have it cleared up... perhaps it's worth opening a thread in Tactics forum and make a few experiments with every setting, to clear this up once and for all. Plus, the RW is drifting inside in this particular move. What matters is that we're narrower than the opposition is when defending and if not wider at least 'as wide as' the opposition when we're attacking. Take a look at the space between the 2 CB's and the general width of the backline in the screens, given that they're more neutral roles and are subject to be influenced by team width more. You can actually see the CWB's who are roles that naturally stay really wide sitting narrow when defending. I'd love to do that, and I've got so many ideas of threads and topics I want to talk about, however each requires at least a day or two for testing things out and coming up with viable conclusions and I don't really have that time now. But good idea for the future Width, space, variety and shape are definitely up there on top of my list as key concepts of the game

Ceching You Out
@LPQR @noikeee -- As far as I know there aren't any TIs which affect horizontal defensive compactness. The width shouts are only supposed to affect offensive positioning, although they will have a knock-on effect on transitions; fluidity is only supposed to impact vertical compactness. Would be interesting to see that tested though.

Gutting
noikeee
Did you clear the skin cache? I've had problems in the past with graphics not showing up until I did that.

Gutting Is there a chance that the changes you're making to the configs and stuff are effecting some kind of bizzaro defunct club? However the create a club works, it seems they make the club defunct and replaced with the new club, but keep the old club in the files, with the new name. Look at Bakalorz here, who began his career at the real Munster, before being signed by my create a club. There are two Munsters and the OG is now defunct/unclickable. I wonder are all the codes for the defunct club. Maybe the game has generated new data for the new club?

I have not encountered anything like this. Sparta's ID is the same as the club I've replaced - Juventus Bucharest and still, the graphics you choose from the start are hard-coded it seems

Maybe the new club id is given to the defunct club. Still, it's a shame you can't edit the kits and such.
LPQR
yep...it's definitely hardcoded into the game that you can't change a created club's graphics. Started a new save (unemployed journeyman :D) and when checking Juventus Bucharest's profile (the club I've replaced when creating Sparta) the kits and logo show up: such a shame, and it's something I really see no point in - if you're creating a club surely half the fun is having the freedom to decide upon issues like these - logo, kits, identity and so on... LPQR
June 2029 - Season Review yet another season marked by our complete domestic domination and a very good showing in the CL group stage. Whilst the draws have been absolutely deadly over the last few years, I still feel we're progressing very well as a club and that we're punching way above our weight. The financial gains of our performances have enabled us to invest extensively in facilities, stadium, youth recruitment and staff, all of which form a great environment for our youth-development policy and have facilitated the recruitment and development of some uniquely talented players for the standards of our League. Season Review quite ironically, we played our home matches on Steaua's stadium this season, due to the expansion works on our ground. And guess what? I sense some converted fans there Champions Playoff League Table Champions League with a group like that, a win against FCP and 3 points is actually a good result. Gutted with the draw and failing to qualify at least for EL but it is what it is and we'll hope for better luck () next year. Squad Awards Key Players Florin Stuparu Tiberiu Vladila Cezar Dobre Milas Ionita II Vladila and Dobre continue to be our main men on the wings, and this season has been another step up in their status as two of the most important players in Sparta's history. The first chipped in a very impressive 14 goals and 12 assists while our captain marshaled the right wing as consistently as he always has done with 14 goals and 8 assists to his name as well. Stuparu is truly our go-to man in attack and he exploded this season, having scored 32 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions, a record that makes Nica wonder if it's not time to retire already. Very excited about his future, as I feel he has what it takes to give us that cutting edge in European competitions too. Milas is, no doubt, the club's best player at this point and his level makes matches in the Romanian Liga I look like training ground practice. Dominant against opposition attacks, he's the best player Sparta have produced yet and we'll be wondering how long before he decides we're too small for his ambitions. Youth Prospects Angelo Boiangiu Catalin Turcu Romeo Voican Costin Plopeanu All four of them are amazing prospects that have been given plenty of game time this season. Voican and Plopeanu are the two future fullbacks for either side of the pitch, with the latter being capable of performing at DM as well, a position which we've started using a lot, tactically speaking. Boiangiu seems to be a very all-rounded midfielder, capable of playing at AM as well, which is very encouraging given our over-reliance on Kereszy for that position. Turcu is the sensation of this generation as he exploded in the second half of the season, virtually kicking captain Cezar Dobre out of the first 11. That explosive pace, excellent crossing, technique and work-rate make him a fantastic winger already for our level and he's still just 18! Youth Intake an excellent intake, marked by the recruitment of three 5* PA players with excellent personalities, out of which... a striker! Apart from that, we have a number of players between 3 and 4.5* which is amazing as well. After all, club legend and one of our best players, Tiberiu Vladila is rated at 3* at the moment Really encouraging return from our recruitment system who has reached the top level of infrastructure in the last few years. This is when we start to enjoy life a bit more, I suppose Alexandru Dragan Alexandru Bodea Antonio Dumitriu Club Development quite amazing how much impact participation in the First K.O. round of the Europa League can have. We've lost about 5 million due to failing to achieve that stage this season, whilst this figure is slightly compensated by a doubled match-day income and some increase in sponsorship too. we've taken the ultimate step in improving our facilities, and I believe once this round is complete, we should reach the 'state of the art' criteria I think it's fair to say that the Romanian NT youth sides are completely reliant on us and FC Viitorul at this point. Really proud of that and this shows we're readying the new generation for the national first team some personal news....massive job offer from Valencia, but of course, after 13 years here, I'm not leaving without tasting champagne first fantastic news for the Romanian League as the champions will go straight to the CL groups starting from next year!
