Lost to Greece 3-0 in an away game.

@WW: I do know that we see the teams usually but couldn't remember it that time, thanks for the quick response mate ^^

In the Premier Division it seems that 5 from the bottom 6 will go down, but with Kazakhstan not having a March friendly and some of the other nations having a game, it will be a nervous wait for Jason Demir.

Typical - I think Kazahkstan have only had 3 or 4 friendlies since this entire thread began!

Magnus Donaldson again stays at the top of the charts, but the other superstars are lining up to overtake him, with now Joo of Russia within the overall top 10 and cannot be ruled out of contesting the overall title if he and Russia hit goalscoring form in Brazil this summer.

The Premier Division relegation battle has been concluded, with Ryan Andrews being the lucky one and surviving by the merest of margins, with only 3 points separating 5 places at the bottom of the table!

In the Second Division, the 3 automatic relegation places are pretty much sown up and it remains upto Arthur Li of Montenegro to scrap out of the playoff zones, with Jim Alex of Romania looking nervously on as it is he who is likely to fall into those dreaded playoff places.

Fulham finished bottom /o\ hopefully I'll jump ship in the summer to stay in the Premiership.

12 goals in my debut season at that level is quite good icon14.gif also an average rating of 7.00 which must be good for a relegated side.

With 13 European squads travelling over to Brazil for the World Cup, an impressive 11 superstars also made the trip with their respective nations. Only Holland & Portugal did not contain a superstar (but as the superstars for those nations have yet to be capped, that is not such a surprise).

So with 11 superstars making the trip, would any of them make a lasting impression on the world stage and indeed would any of them be coming home a the end of the tournament with the trophy in their arms?!?!

World Cup 2014 Group Stage Report Part 1

Group A

Spain & Montenegro

For these 2 nations, the World Cup had completely different backgrounds, for Montenegro this was there first ever World Cup since gaining independence of Serbia. For Spain, they were coming to Brazil ranked as the World's No.1 nation and as defending champions... no pressure then!

Spain got off to a good start with a 3-0 win over Egypt, with Tom Collantine getting 2 assists. Montenegro also got off to the perfect start with a 2-1 win over Paraguay, Arthur Li getting the decisive 2nd goal for them.

In the next round of games both European sides faced off and Spain gave Montenegro a thumping, winning 4-0, with both superstars playing for their sides. With Paraguay losing 2-5 to Egypt, it set up a tense final game between Montenegro and the Egyptians.

In the final round of games, Fernando Torres scored a hattrick as Spain won 3-1 against Paraguay, with Tom Collantine again starting upfront but not finding the net.

However, possibly the story of the whole of the group stage was in the Egypt v Montenegro game. Egypt had a better GD so only needed a draw, but Montenegro went into injury time at the end of the game 2-1 up. Then in the 4th minute of injury time Egypt won a corner, up came their keeper from the back and he smacker his header into the net and the Egyptians went bananas! Arthur Li played in the game but didn't score.

Montengro Heartache

Group B

England & Russia

England went into the tournament as 4th ranked in the World, Russia ranked 20th. Both sides won their first games but with neither superstar scoring. Then they both drew 0-0 against each other to have 4 points each and with Japan beating the Ivory Coast 1-0, the Africans were out already.

However, this group had some legs yet, England drew 2-2 with the Ivory Coast in their last match, Yhon Wi scoring twice and getting the MoM award. However, they would be disappointed as after Reo-Coker was sent off in the 70th minute, England conceded twice in the last 10 minutes and could only settle for 2nd in the group.

However, the winners of the group weren't Russia - with Japan beating them 2-1 after Joo had put the Russians ahead.

That meant Japan would face Egypt in the 2nd Round, whilst England would play Spain!!!

Group C

France & Italy

France went into the tournament ranked 7th, Italy 5th. From the outset it looked like they would overpower Costa Rica & Chile and they did!

Bob McBob shone for France in their first game scoring a hattrick and they smashed Costa Rica 4-0. Not to be outdone, Italy beat Chile 3-0, with Larry De Poopinho scoring the opening goal.

In the 2nd round of matches France beat Chile 3-0, Bob McBob with another goal and Italy beat Costa Rica 5-0, Larry De Poopinho scoring twice.

In an even last match with both teams already through, France beat Italy a tad harshly 2-0 to secure top spot.

Group D

Denmark & Portugal

Portugal went into the tournament as 2nd favourites, being ranked 2nd in the World, whilst Denmark were 13th.

Portugal quietly dispatched the Aussies 1-0 in the opening game, but Denmark suffered a setback losing 2-3 to Ghana, Julius Kapono scoring a late consolation in injury time for the Danes.

Denmark came back strongly in the next game though, with Kapono scoring a hattrick to help Denmark to a 4-2 win, but with Ghana again surprising some people by beating Portugal 2-1, it meant that the European faceoff would decide who would go through to the knockout stages.

In a game in which Portugal showed their class, they won 1-0 to leave Denmark to go home early. Ghana got a point against the Aussies to secure topspot.

France would therefore play Portugal and Ghana v Italy in the 2nd round.

World Cup 2014 Group Stage Report Part 2

Group E

Germany & Holland

Like Group C, this group looked like a walk in the park for the European nations and it was.

Holland came into the tournament ranked 11th and got off a to a great start, beating Ecuador 4-1. Germany, ranked 6th at the start, began steadily with a 1-0 win over Iran, James Knowles playing.

In the next round of matches, as Holland slightly stumbled drawing 2-2 against Iran, Germany made their move, with a secure 3-0 win over Ecuador thanks to a hattrick and MoM performance from James Knowles.

In the last round of matches, Iran won an epic encounter 4-3 over Ecuador thanks to an injury time penalty, but it wasn't enough as Holland had a better GD despite going down 1-0 to their bitter rivals Germany, James Knowles playing again.

Group F

Belgium

Belgium knew that with home team Brazil in their group, they were in a fight for 2nd with Mexico. The 19th best side in the World went narrowly down 0-1 to Brazil in the opening game, but Mexico only drawing 2-2 with the Saudis, they knew after scraping past Saudi Arabia 2-1 thanks to 2 goals from Benjas Kyriagkos that they had the advantage.

Brazil won their other 2 games which meant that a draw would have been good enough to secure Belgium 2nd spot, but they won 2-1 thanks to a goal from Benjas Kyriagkos.

Brazil would therefore meet Holland in the last 16, Belgium meeting Germany!

Group G

Greece

Greece were lucky to be drawn in what was probably the weakest group of the eight and they took full advantage winning all 3 games.

Going in as the 18th best side in the world, they won 1-0 in all 3 games, with Pendros playing all 3 games and scoring a penalty in the opening game to give Greece the win over South Korea.

The shock of the group was Peru, who were ranked 60th before the tournament and surprised everyone with wins over Cameroon and then S Korea to snatch 2nd spot in the group.

Group H

Scotland

Ahh Scotland, they went into the tournament ranked 30th in the world (a slight comedown from their top 10 position just 18 months ago), hoping to break their curse of not getting past the opening group stage at a World Cup.

They started in terrific fashion, beating the USA 3-1 thanks to 2 goals from Jason Healy. Scotland were top of the group on GD from Argentina who beat Nigeria 1-0.

That wouldn't last for long though as the Scots were sent back to earth with a 4-1 thumping from Argentina, although Jason Healy had earlier given Scots cause for delight after scoring the opening goal after 7 minutes. This meant that with Nigeria only drawing 2-2 with the USA, a draw might suffice aginst Nigeria if the USA didn't beat Argentina.

However, the USA did pull off a shock winning 1-0, but that didn't really matter as Nigeria anhilated Scotland 5-1, Jason Healy with the consolation, to send the Scots home early again - finishing last in their group!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Argentina won the group so would face Peru, whilst Nigeria would face Greece in the 2nd round.

Jason Healy becomes the first person ever to reach 200 points in a season, but with James Knowles & Pendros just behind him and both still in the tournament, then it seems unlikely that he will become the Champion this season.

Julius Kapono who has had a decent World Cup, will get no better than 4th max as Denmark went out in the group stages as well.

Arthur Li was counting on a good World Cup to lift him out of the relegation places in Div 2 and that is what he has done, leaving Jim Alex of Romania to pick up that dubious honour of relegation to Div 3.

Great performances from Bob McBob & Larry De Poopinho have seen them shoot up Div 3 from absolutely nowhere and now both are looking for a playoff / promotion place which will see them in Div 2 next season.

As a sign of how high the scoring is for this season, dafuge has 129 points and isn't on the top 10 leaderboard, a score that 4 seasons ago would have seen him lift the title!!!
