nimmospurs
i was wondering what is the best holding midfield role in the centre midfield position I know there is lots of options I want the best one to partner a centre mid on support or a box to box midfielder on support for my 4-2-3-1 system
yonko
In general, I would say DLP-D or CM-D. But it would be better if you have two sitting midfielders in 4231 or the fullback on the side of the CM/BBM-S is also conservative role (FB-S/WB-D)
nimmospurs
I have both full backs on support with no player instructions and 2 centre backs on defend on close down less
westy8chimp
Defensive transitions there is not much difference in a DLP D and CM D Offensive transitions: DLP D if you want specific passing patterns ... i.e. encourage the defence to play to a DLP who in turn can be the heartbeat, or play direct passes, instead of defenders bypassing the midfield. CMD will suffice if you are content to let more generic TI/PI combo take precedent.
dcaine100
I find a BWM(D) and CM(S) with FBs on support work well.
borivoje213
DLP (D) all the way. In addition to what Westy said, as an attack begins to break down a little, your more advanced players will more often use him as an outlet rather than being forced to play something stupid as a last resort. Good for high possession teams. Provided you have someone capable of course.
isignedupfornorealreason
Personally, I prefer the CM/D, mostly because it is more generic, but I also feel it closes the midfield a bit better than the DLP/D, who may drop back a bit too much for my liking. That can present a problem if the opposition run an attacking midfielder, depending on your own set up.
Johnleegriffin
For 2 holding mids i would go for DLP/S and CM/D
