When the GOAT of one sport tries his hand at another...

Hi all,

I'm back again with a new idea I'm keen to try, in a country that's seldom visited in this forum. Well, it is a country pretty commonly managed in, but the country is home to another principality that's becoming popular, as that country doesn't have their own league.

Yes, I'm going to Switzerland!

More on this shortly......

The Club

I had to holiday a year to get this team, and it involved reloading several times.

A solid 2nd tier team in the 2000s, before having a massive drop to the 6th tier before being promoted back up the the playable 5th division.

Plenty of room for improvement here.

The Manager

Yes.

20 time tennis Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is now the manager of a Swiss 5th division club.

Why?

I was re reading Federer's unofficial biography last week, and it mentioned how he, like most European tennis players, displayed a talent for football as well. It just so happens that Federer played junior football for this club, whereas some of the lesser known Swiss players of his generation played for the much more popular and fierce rivals FC Basel. So I figured I could tap into that a little bit and have a bit of a purpose for this save.

d3709e016fa2fe1921d732986a006b7d.png

It's a little unrealistic in the fact that he was never capped in football, but I thought I could create his mental attributes based on how successful he was as a tennis player and that could possibly translate to respect from his players. Also, despite being half South African, he doesn't speak any of those native languages so that's a little unrealistic as well.

The aims of this save?

To do as well as possible in as little time as possible, using only players promoted from the youth academy. It should take a while, and the eventual goal is to topple Basel as the giants of Switzerland, and then build from domestic glory to continental and possibly international glory. The wealth of second nationalities in Switzerland makes for an interesting time as well.

Let's do this!

Nice twist! Believe it or not, I actually thought about doing a Chicago Fire (or maybe DC United) save with Michael Jordan as manager. :D

Federer has won 20 Grand Slams in 16 years. Will be interesting to see how long it will take you to win as many major trophies... ;)

That's definitely interesting, MJ did play minor league baseball so there's no reason why he wouldn't try soccer 😂

I will definitely win 5 titles in 64 years

It's looking like low quality at a high quantity 😂

2018/19 Winter Break Update

A pretty good start, I'd say exceeding expectations as we only have 13 registered players! Not scoring many, but conceding even less. Having one grey striker out of two certainly doesn't help.

Promoted! Bit of a blip there in the middle but we steadied and carried on with some good wins.

Although with a bit of luck as Servette U21 can't get promoted.

Key Players

No best 11, as we don't have enough for a full team

Mid Season Update

We are scoring plenty, but also conceding more than plenty. It doesn't help that we still don't field a full team of players every week, barely struggling to get 10. That will change once we return, as plenty of our youth players will qualify for registration after the break.

Once we start with a full team I expect to be out of that relegation hole.

We had a better second half of the season, as we had a full squad of actual players, and they pulled us into survival. We had a few close games against strong opposition, so it's fair to say we exceeded expectations.

Winter Break Update

Remember how we were predicted dead last?

My team forgot to read the script.

We had a good start but I didn't think it would last, and then we kept getting result after result and we shot up the table. A bit of a blip towards the end but hopefully the break will sort that out.

My form with managing the team has attracted the attention of other clubs, as I've declined interviews from three different nations.

Speaking of nations, we had our first international callups, with 1H being called up for Albania 19s and 2A for the Bosnia U19s.

An interesting 2nd half awaits!

Ultimately it was that period in the 2nd half where we lost 4 in a row that cost us a playoff spot, but I'm not too fussed. We were expected to come last and we ended up 4th. That's a fantastic achievement in anyone's book!

A vastly different outlook from this time last season, as we haven't been able to string victories together, and concede late due to poor fitness/mental strength that comes with young players. I think we will be able to pick it up as we head into the second half, but we won't finish in the top half.

England take home their 2nd World Cup, but the biggest surprise is Germany, who didn't even qualify for the tournament! Switzerland bottled a massive opportunity to make the last 8, where Sweden were the surprise package of the tournament, bowing out in the quarter finals after defeating Argentina in the last 16. Belgium finished 3rd after defeating Croatia in the 3/4 playoff.

Thanks! We still have one Liechtensteiner but he's nowhere near the first team anymore, will probably be released soon.

A near flawless 2nd half of the season saw us win the league and then we flogged Koniz in the playoff 8-3, so up to the 3rd tier we go!

We are near unbreakable at the back, and all our youth players are beginning to step up, our RB Artur Gomes 4C* is a current Swiss U19 international!
