Not looking good with Mota and Breno wanting out. icon_frown.gif We seem to be lacking a consistent goalscorer as well.

Quick question Corinthiano - is the Superliga running on full detail this time? Or are Mayobamba just not that good? icon_razz.gif

KUTGW mate.

KUTGW mate.

I made sure the Superliga was run on full detail both times, along with the Sudamericana, Libertaodres, CWC, WC Qualifying , WC, Confederations Cup and Copa America. Just to make sure that the Superliga players always play games on full detail icon_smile.gif

Might have to add the African competitions now we seem to be getting more and more of them in Peru icon_biggrin.gif

I am not quite sure what the problem with Mayobamba is this season. They are not as unexperienced as in the first season and actually have two decent strikers in Wilmer Aguirre and Hernan Rengifo. Maybe the pressure of trying to match Los Incas is getting to them. icon_razz.gif

Mind you they are doing better than in the first season, at least they are still in touch with safety this time! icon_wink.gif

Very impressive performance in Libertadores though. You appear to have not put up pictures for Ciudad v Atletico though. Wait a minute... brilliant in the cup...poor in the league...

Is the Superliga coming to Trujillo???? Didn't think the season woul dpan out like this. I can't believe I ever lost faith in the team!

Shame the goals have dried up from Palacio though. If it weren't for Tevez it'd be a very different story.

2010 End of Season Update

League Standings

The three top sides after the Apertura contined their amazing form and were miles better than the rest of the league. Another gear above everyone else were Los Incas, who didnt let go off top spot from Matchday 29 onwards and finished the league with a 5 points adantage over second placed World Starz, who just edged the automatic Libertaodres place in front of CDT. Los Osos will be delighted with their season though and look forward to their first crack at Libertadores football. Renato Gaucho worked his magic at Lima and their good form in the last few games of the season earned them a Sudamericana spot, just as Puno who are still overly reliant on Sergio Aguero. Norte Chico ran out of gas in the final games and missed out on South American football for the first time in their history. Mayobamba had a very good Closing Stage and managed to stay clear of relegation, the losers in the whole stroy being Westfields FC. Quite amazing how a side who qualified for the Libertaodres last season just didnt perform as expected and dissappointed their fans massively.

Rival Watch

Capital Rivalry

World Starz still have the upper hand over all their Lima rivals only losing two games against capitals sides this season. Westfields didnt have the upper hand on any of the other Lima sides, which reflected their poor position in the league. Lima and LW FC delivered very tight and high emotion matches, just as in the last two seasons.

Southern Rivalry

An unfamiliar sight in the South this season as Puno were riding high and Atletico Arequipa only finished 6 points off safety. Puno were also very dominant this year in the derbies, something Los Blancos never managed to do. The Panthers remained unbeaten against "the hippies", winning two and drawing two.

Atletico Arequipa vs. Puno

Mountain Rivalry

One of the Mountain Derbies was back this season with the promotion of Mayobamba, although there wasnt much compettition in the matches. Los Incas won 3 out of the 4 clashes and Mayobamba wont care too much as they are happy to just have survived this season.

Los Incas vs. Mayobamba C.F.

The Northern Rivalry

It is the first time a Northern side havent won the league, but the rotation of the top northern sides continues with CDT having the best performance in the league. They also had the upper hand against their rivals, the biggest highlight being the 7-2 thrashing of Cudad at the Estadio Oso Paddington. Ciudad had a psoitive record against Norte Chico, but the Huaraz side wont care too much as they will be playing internationally next season and Ciudad not.

Sudamericana Watch

First Preliminary Round

Atletico Arequipa

Los Blancos were up againt Deportivo Cali, a side that has already cause plenty of problems for Peruvian sis in the past. The first leg at the Estadio Misti started brightly though with Donny Neyra and Pedro Lozano putting the Arequipa side 2-0 ahead in the first half. It all seemed to be going well, with Atletico Arequipa taking a very good lead to Cali until the Colombians scored 2 goals in the last 12 minutes, the equalizer being in the 90th minute. The situation changed dramtically and Los Blancos would have to score goals in Colombia. They conceded instead though, being 2-0 down in the first 15 minutes. But the game turned out the same way as the first leg though, the only difference being that Atletico Arequipa scored their two goals in the first half. Manasseh Ishiaku and Maxi Rodriguez the scorers taking the tie into penalties. Neyra, one of the players of the tie, was one of the players to miss for Atletico and Deportivo Cali knocked another Peruvian side out.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Norte Chico

Norte Chico were up against their feeder club Once Caldas and anything but a win over the two ties would be considered a failure. The first leg in Manizales was higly entertaining and ended in a 3-3 draw, with Robinho grabbing a hattrick. Norte Chico should have won the tie really as they were 3-1 up at one point and a lack of concentration allowed the Colombians to get back into the tie. At the Estadio de Aspero there was certainly no concentration missing as Norte Chico went 3-0 up within an hour. Once Caldas pegged one back but it wasnt enough and the Peruvians were securely into the second preliminary round against Deportivo Cali.

2nd Leg

First Preliminary Round Overview

Second Preliminary Round

Deportivo Cali continued to prove that they were a nightmare for Peru sides as they went 2-0 up at home. There was a good response from Norte Chico and they equalized the match with goals either side of the half-time wistle. However it was not meant to be and the Colombians took the lead once again and held on to it, meaning they would have a slight advantage for the second half. Norte Chico werent pleased with the defeat but, ahppy at two away goals that could provide to be crucial. They werent though as Norte Chico largely outclassed the Cali side at the Estadio de Aspero, beating them 3-0 and guaranteeing an easy qualification to the first round proper.

2nd Leg

Second Preliminary Round Overview

First Round

The last 16 stage pitted Norte Chico against Colo Colo, who had knocked out World Starz at the same stage last season. Just like agains Once Caldas, Norte Chico had an amzing start to the away leg at the Monumental in Santiago. Robinho and Rodriguez Alvarez putting them 2-0 up in the first half an hour. Colo Colo reduced the lead in the first half, but the score remained the same for the second half and Norte Chico had managed an impressive result. Boris Sagredo tested the nerves of the Peruvians early in the first half by putting the Chileans in the lead, but Robinho managed to pull the score level. Boris Sagredo hit back though and another tie went to penalties. Norte Chico kept composed and are thefirst side to reach the Sudamericana quarter finals.

2nd Leg

First Round Overview

Quarter Finals

And now there was a real test with almighty Boca standing in the ay fo a semi final slot.It seemed like it was going to be a long night for Norte Chcio as Leandro Gracian opened the scoring in the 9th minute at La Bombonera. Robinho once again equalized for Norte Chico to put the side in a good position going into half-time. In the second half the steam ran out for Norte Chico and they took a hell of a beating with the game ending on a bitter 4-1. Robinho revived the slim hopes Norte Chico had in the second leg by scoring just before tha half hour mark. Franco Cangele equalized before the first half ended though and there was no hope for Norte Chico in the second half.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Quarter Final Overview

River made up for their defeat in the Libertadores final by conquering the Copa Sudamericana.

Awards and Statistics

Norte Chico impressed everyone with their attacking football and were the side with the most goals in the competition. Robinho also grabbed himself the Golden Boot Award to sum up a very respectable campaign for the northeners.

Managerial Changes + even more new Peruvian Citizens

There was activity and short-sightedness from the Escobar brothers yet again. Freddy Ternero lasted a whole 3 months at Atletico Arequipa before being sacked. The replacemtn was a big surprise as Diego Simeone left leaders Los Incas to move south. Former Bolognesi boss Juan Reynoso has been his replacement and managed to improve a side already on the top and is being labelled as a young and talented manager. Victor Esparrago reitired at the start of the Closing Stage and LW FC brought Milton Cruz from Brazilian giants Sao Paulo. After he didnt perorm as was wished he was sacked at the end of the season and Dunga is now in charge of The Warriors.

Due to the poor season at Allpay Park, Hector Cuper was sacked with 3 months of the season left to be replaced by another young manager with potential, Pierre Ruiz from Deportivo Municipal. He didntdeliver though and was sacked at the end of the season with Wanderley Luxemburgo being handed the taks of bringing the club back to the Superliga. After two seasons in the Second Division with no success, Ramon Quiroga has left Cusco Athletico and Ricardo Soria is the current caretaker.

All players that were originally transferred at the start of the Superliga have Peruvian nationality, meaning there are many open spaces for foreign talent to be imported.

Manager list in Arequipa...

Passarella

Vera (3 months)

Luxemburgo (4-5 months)

Ternero (3 months)

Simeone could do with spending some of the big wad of cash imo. Rubbish season, but Ishiaku is shaping up well. No wonder, mind, as Benavides and Acasiete are spending their time on the bench.

Ivan Sánchez looks the goods. A bit on the tiny side for a defender though.

what a great season! after being predicted 12th we , well aguero pulled out all the stops. An amazing 5th place finish with Aguero going like the clappers and scoring around half of the teams goals. We still let in loads though. Hopefully with some new talent from europe brought in we could push for the title

Cusco Athletico are terrible. Got relegated then they sell Daniel Alves leading to them not gaining promotion. Next season was no better with more players being sold and none bought. Manager was sacked, finally, and so hopefully this will mean a change in fortunes for the club. icon_frown.gif

Seeing as where the 6th richest club in the world you'd think the club wouldn't just sell players for the money so hopefully they are just saving up and will look to Europe next season for some transfers.

Good performance in the Copa Sudamerica from Norte Chico this season, no surprise that we couldn't overcome Boca but the 1-1 draw at hmoe should inspire some confidence. It's good to see the Peruvian clubs progressing further and further in the continental competitions; I wonder how long it'll be till someone brings some silverware back home to Peru!

Bit disappointed with our league performance, we've gone from 1st to 4th and now to 6th meaning we miss out on even the Copa Sudamerica next season. I've heard rumours of bribery from the the CDT camp, I mean how else could they finish above us in the table?? Pleased to get one over on Cuidad this season nevertheless.

It's interesting to see that (apart from the first season) the teams that have been the most successful are those that have made the most signings, what with Cuidad in 2009 and now Los Incas in 2010. Seems to suggest that bringing in players from abroad is the way forward; as far as I can tell none of the newgen Peruvian talent has really made an impact on the league yet with the big name foreigners still stealing all the awards and headlines. It'll be interesting to see if this trend continues in future seasons or if the clubs that have made less signings and allowed their youth players to develop with the help of some first team football start to see that gamble pay off.

Really cool updates Corinthiano, keep it up! If I can annoy you with more requests, I'd quite like to see the Norte Chico best XI every now and then, maybe not every season. Also might be cool to post the Peru Under 20 best X1 so we can check out the most exciting Peruvian prospects.

True, making more signings has been the best recipe for success at the moment. I think that this is because the regen talent is still very young. In a few years the squads will be a bit more balanced and I think we wont see the superstar strikers hitting the 40 goal mark too often!

I dont mind any requests at all, do you want to see the Seasons Best XI or the All-Time Best XI for the club sides?

To everyone, if you want to see something included in the updates or think some of the information wirtten on them isnt necessary please let me know. Any constructive criticism and improvement suggestions are very much appreciated icon_smile.gif

The cheek of it!!! (Sings "just because you're losing, just because your losing!!! icon_razz.gif)

But seriously, it is good to see the best team in the north showing the potential I knew they had. The best supported team in the league alst season too! Mabe it'll be us bringing home the Libertadores Championship!!!!

It is interesting to see CDT lead the overall team goal scoring charts for the Superliga since it started. As I keep saying, shore up that defence and the team will be unstoppable!

2011 Pre-Season Update

As another season is upon us, this could be the year where we see a lot of investment made again as all original foreign players brought in have Peruvian nationality and have freed up two foreigner spots in the squads. In terms of promotion, Cusco Athletico will remain another bitter year in the Second Division as the club keeps selling and not buying. The two promoted sides are Juan Aurich, who never had any tradition in Peru and Melgar who were Peruvian champions in the past.

Transfers

Atletico Arequipa

No transfers in, only the sales of Jair Baylon to LW FC and youngster Santiago Rivas to Alianza Lima. 5 players also went on loan to feeder clubs.

Transfer History

CDT

No transfers in at CDT as well, just 3 players going on loan at feeder club Oriente Petrolero from Bolivia.

Transfer History

Ciudad

Again no transfers in, there was quite a clear out at Ciudad, Juan Flores getting old and being sold off to Sport Boys while two very attacking players where sold off to Superliga opposition.

Transfer History

Cusco Athletico

After selling off many players Cusco have made one major signing this season.

Junior Ross - The striker changes clubs as often as his socks and will be playing Second Division football this season.

Youngster Antonio Calatayud has gone in the opposite direction and has joined Westfields FC. A few players got too old and were released while a couple went off on loan.

Lima

The club finally replaced the two big sales of the last couple of seasons, Miguel Villalta and Claudio Pizarro.

Christian Ramos- A young ver good central defender who will certainly fit in well at Stadio de Lima

Jose Paolo Guerrero - Finally a big name up front for Lima, he will surely be a good enough replacement for Pizarro.

Kerwing Peixoto - Another good defender, snapped up fom Mayobamba for a measly £500k

The only transfer out was the sale of youngster Pedro Vallina to Alianza Lima.

Transfer History

Los Incas

There was only one transfer for the reigning champions:

Juan Cominges - The striker comes form Ciudad and will add attacking options for the Cusco side.

No players have left, only a few loan signings to feeder clubs.

Transfer History

LW FC

The club with by far the biggest investment this season, if recent logic applies this season they can be considered favourites for the title.

Ailton - The striker comes from Flamengo in Brazil and is a very decnt acquisition

Carlos Ismodes - Midfielder from UNiveristario who will add a bit of experience in the centre of the field.

Jair Baylon - Another journeyman striker who hasnt really proved he is worth all the money and fuss, another £25 Millin splashed out on him though.

Johan Sotil - Brought over from Pachuca of Mexico, he plays in the same positions as Carlos Ismodes and will be fighting for a place in the first team with him.

Johan Vasquez - Another midfielder from Universitario, he plays mostly down the left though.

Leandro Ezquerra - And yet another midfielder, this one with a bit more potential.

Martin Tenemas - Signed from recently releagtes rivals Westfields, the Peruvian National rught back is a great addtion.

Omar Estrada - He will add some much neede experience to the goalkeeping position at the club, another positive is his Libertadores experience in case the club qalifies for South America in future.

Transfer History

Mayobamaba C.F.

Mayobamba also didnt invest much, only one player coming in.

Francisco Alex - Comes as a replacement for Sergio Mota, although he isnt really up to the same standard as the former midfield maestro.

Miguel Mostto was relased after his very small impact on the side and Kerwing Peixoto was sold off to Lima.

Transfer History

Norte Chico

The Norte Chico board have once again showed very little ambition and the only notable activity was the sale of Felipe to Valencia.

Transfer History

Puno

Again no transfer movement in, only Mario Gomez being relaeased and a youngster off to Tigre on loan.

Transfer History

Westfields FC

The Lima based club have adopetd the same strategy that Mayobamba succesfully used when relegated. A lot of players from the Second Division hae joined the club, none really amazing but the squad is Second Divsion fit now.

Antonio Calatayud - The young goalkeeper was signed from Cusco Athleitco and is supposed to have a good future ahead of him.

Jair Cespedes - The biggest name to join Westfields, he was playing his football at Morelia in the Mexican First Division.

Javier Molina - The decent left back joined from Universitario, who have incidentally sold about half of their first team in recent years.

Jean Pierre Cancar - Comes as a replacement for Martin Tenemas, clearly not as good as his predecessor but good enough for the Second Division.

Joshuap Begazo - Another half decent signing coming from Ciancianp this time.

Karlo Calcina - He will provide competition for Javier Molina, but it is likely he will be in the first team as he is clearly stronger than Molina.

A lot of half decent signings made and two big players gone, this worked for Mayobamba in the past, it reamins to be seen if Westfields FC copied the formula effectively.

Transfer History

World Starz

The quietest of all teams, and that is a big achievement with the less than exciting dalings made by the other clubs.

Transfer History

All in all a very dissappointing transfer window with only LW FC and Westfields adding their squad with a few players, I expected there would be much more signings from Europe or other South American countries

Another disappointing transfer window for Norte Chico - not only did we fail to sign anyone but we went and sold off Felipe. Media prediction puts us 3rd this season but I have a feeling we'll be struggling at the other end of the table icon_frown.gif

The positive thing is that neither Cusco nor CDT seem to have shown much ambition in the transfer market either, hopefully we can get one over on them this season!

great updates corinthiano, KUTGW,

good to see the ambition LW FC has made this pre-Season,couple of decent players signed, but shocked with our 25m signing, he looks AWFUL.

I know, the thing is he had potential but just hasnt improved over the years. I think this comes from his constant transfers, he hasnt been able to settle at any club.

It is a first option deal, hopefully some regens will come up at the feeder clubs and we could see some of them moving over to Peru.

On another note, I wont be posting updates until Thursday as I have been having to drive my boss home (he has a one month driving ban) and been getting home relatively late + I dont want to miss the Champions League matches!

As I am off work on Thursday and Friday I ll be able to make up for it icon14.gif

2011 Mid-Season Update

League Standings

The title race looks like it will become a two horse race after the mid-point. CDT and Lima started very brightly but dropped off the pace, leaving Los Incas and LW FC with some space between them. Los Incas' good recent form has seen them gain a 4 point lead over The Warriors but there is plenty of time to change that around.Further behind from CDT and Lima are Ciudad and World Starz who have battled for the last continental qualification place for the last rounds. No Escobar side is in real danger of relegation, with 10th place Puno 9 points ahead of Melgar and JuanAurich are pretty much relegated after collecting a pathetic 4 points in 22 games. The teams in the lower reach of the table will have to improve a lot if they want to get that 5th place though.

Libertadores Watch

Preliminary Round

CDT got a tough draw aginst the traditional Nacional from Uruguay. All the talk of CDT's inexperience playing a part in the tie were whiped away after 15 minutes at the Estadio Oso Paddingtin when Tevez scored a double. The match was comfortable for CDT and it looked like they would be taking a good advantage to the Centenario, but Nacional popped up with a goal in the 86th minute to make the second leg a more interesting prospect. Tevez again scored early in the second leg to take away Nacional's away goal advantage.Rodrigo Palacio added another goal through a penalty before half-time and CDT were surely through. There were four goals in the second half, although two for each side meanng CDT were through to the Group Stages.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Group Stage

Group D - World Starz

World Starz were drawn in a comfortbale group, with Olimpia, Independiente and Deportes Concepcion. There were two foremer champions in the group, but they arent what they used to be. And so World Starzx absolutely dominted the group, only dropping points away to Independiente.

Group Table

Group E - CDT

CDT were drawn into a much tougher group along with Internacional, Danubio and El Nacional. The Brazilians and Uruguayans were very togh opposition but CDT cruised through the group and remained unbeaten, only dropping points in Montevideo and Porto Alegre, whilst ding the double over El Nacional.

Group Table

Group H - Los Incas

The main opposition in Los Incas group were giants Boca, but Los Incas managed to gain a draw at La Bombonera and beat the Argentinians at home. A double over Atletico Nacional and Cerro Porteno guarantedd an almost perfect group stage.

Group Table

Last 16

CDT

CDT got a really tough draw and would have to knock out Boca Juniors to progress further in the Libertadores. The first leg was at La Bombonera and there was much talk of the return of the home boys Rodrigo Palacio and Carlos Tevez. Many thought that they would crumble under the pressuer, but Palacio shut everyone up with two goals in the first 15 minutes. Boca scored a goal ealy in the second half but Los Osos managed to come away with this impressive win Buenos Aires. CDT totally dominated the return leg at Estadio Oso Paddington and a 1-1 draw saw them cause a major upset!

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Los Incas

Los Icas were also drawn against Argentinian opposition, 7 times champion Independiente were the opponents. The first leg at Avellaneda was very exciting and eventful and the first half already saw each team score a goal. Pato gave El Club de Oro the lead on the 60th minute and it looked like the Cusco side were going to take the win in to the second leg. However Independiente scored two goals in the last 6 minutes to turn the game around and give them the edge in the tie. However Los Incas gave the Argentinians no chance at Arena Machu Picchu and trahsed them 6-0, with four of the goals coming in the first half.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

World Starz

The Kings got the easiest draw out of the Peruvian trio and had to face Millonarios. The game at El Campin started really well with Roberto Jimenez opening the score after 13 minutes. World Starz dominated the rest of the match but were unable to extend their lead. The ineficiencey was punished for when Hugo Rodallega equalized the game with quarter of an hour to go. With all to pay for in the second leg it was a vey tight and tense affair. Just after the break Cedric Konan gave World Starz the lead and it was all defence for the rest of the match. The Lima side just about held on to the result and qualified for the next round.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Quarter Finals

CDT

Yet again, CDT were facing a top South American side in the Libertadores. This time it was Sao Paulo, who had come to Trujillo determined to get a result. However CDT defied the odds again to go 2-0 up at half time. though Alberto Prado and Paolo de Haza. Just after the break the Sao Paulo side pulled a goal back before Alberto prado restored the 2 goal lead again. Diogo pulled a goal back with 10 minutes to go to make the return leg an exciting prospect. And this tie it was Sao Paulo who started well and were two up at half time. CDT went all out but couldnt find their way through and to make matters worse Edu Salles scored on a counter attack to make it 3-0. Thats when the star of Carlos Tevez shone through scoring one and setting up one to take the tie into penalties. However Palacio missed the first penalty, which proved to be crucial and CDT were out.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Los Incas

Los Incas had to go past the reigning champions Aerica (MEX) if they wanted to get through to the semis. They started the tie extremely well with a 0-0 draw in the extreme altitude of the Azteca in Mexico City. The only negative was the fact that they didnt manage to score an away goal, so the defensive side would also have to be watched out for at the Arena Machu Picchu. They didnt have to worry about that though as they absolutely outclassed the Mexicans, beating them 4-1 at home.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

World Starz

World Starz faced another recent winner in Botafogo and it all started off very badly at the Engenhao when Renan scored after 9 minutes to give the Brazilians the lead. However The Kings manage to draw the game still in the first half through a Gum own goal and then took the lead early on in the second half. This win was a massive result and World Starz were favourites to progress. They controlled the first half at The Starz Palace and Roberto Jimenez put them in front jsut before the break. Tulio Souza equalized just after half-time to give the home fans a bit of a scare, but Richarlyson mae it all clear scoring the winner at the 66th minute.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Semi-Finals

The Semis pitted the biggest Superliga clash of all times as World Starz and Los Incas were battling it out for a place in the final. With Los Incas riding high in the league and World Starz having the best record in South America this was surely going to be an interesting battle. The first leg was in Lima and World Starz started off the better with that man again, Roberto Jimenez scored early in the first half. World Starz managed to hold on to the lead and went into the second leg at Arena Machu Picchu with an important advantage. A mixutre of a lacklustre attacking display from Los Incas and very solid defending from World Starz resulted in a 0-0 draw and the progression of the capital club into the Libertadores final.

Final

Not an extremely traditonal club in the final for World Starz, however Cruzeiro have already won the Libertadores in the past. The first ahlf at The Starz Palace went like pretty much all first halfs in this competition, with a Roberto Jimenez goal and a 1-0 lead, which was also held for the rest of the match. This meant the Lima club could go into the Mineirao defending a lead to win the title. It didnt go to plan though and on the 28th minute Marcelo Moreno put the tie level again. After the break World Starz conceded another goal and just didnt have the strength to get back into the game and lost out on the title.

After the big signing Junior Ross in the summer, there was an investment on another player, but this one not very high profile.

No transfers in or out.

Yessu Cabrera - the versatile attacking colombian comes from La Equidad and is seen as a good prospect for the future.

Transfer History

LW FC

After the shopping spree in the summer The Warriors have added another face to their squad in a bid to keep up with reigning champions Los Incas:

Carlos Alberto - The experienced right back will add that attacking element that every brazilian full-back brings with him.

Squad

Mayobamba C.F.

Alianza Lima were raided for a couple of questionable signings:

Leonardo Aguilar - Mayobamba have been struggling for goals, but it reamins to be seen wether Aguilar will be able to bring them in.

Ruben Mori - With the constant speculation surrounding world class defender Breno, Ruben Mori was signed as a just in case option.

Transfer Hitory

Squad

Norte Chico

After slipping down the league even further this year Americo Gallego was sacked and the former Sao Paulo and LW FC coach was brought in. He had a torrid time at LW FC but his winter signings left everyone at Estadio Aspero with high hopes.

Luis Fabiano - The biggest signing of this transfer window. He is already 30 years old, but still has a top class pedigree.

Miguel Alvarez - The former Westfields midfielder looks a promising prospect and Norte Chico decided to invest in it.

Reimond Manco - Norte Chico decided to splash the cash on the promising winger/striker, spending an amazing £23 Million on him!

Transfer History

Squad

Puno

No transfers in, only one youngster going on loan to Tigre and an argentinian regen that didnt make the cut returning to his homeland.

woot! What a fantastic 1st half of the season! we invested heavily, and to be 2nd with a chance of 1st is an amazing achievement. Hopefully we continue this fantastic form, and win the championship! full credit to the lads, what an UNBELIEVABLE position. wow....

Mayobamba are sitting mid-table but I'm happy with that after our relegation trouble of the past. We don't seem to be doing too well in the transfer market though - if Breno goes, I would be extremely concerned about what kind of replacement would come in.

Lost nine million on the Baylon deal - he's a hot potato...

Good to see Acasiete back in the team though, even better to see us ahead of the puny ones. And Ismael Blanco was a decent buy, turns up anywhere in front of goal.

Fantastic performances in the Libertadores. The Superliga is finally super (as shown by the All-Superliga semi being a snoozefest - though Pato should have buried World Starz in that second leg). Shame about the Bears tossing away a two-goal lead and the ultimate loss by World Starz however.

Fine update once more.

Great updates, Corinthiano. I especially like the Copa Libertadores write ups! I almost thought we were going to go through against Sao Paulo, but maybe next time.

Just need to do a bit better in the second half of the season to make that qualifying spot ours!!!

Cusco Athletico doing slightly better although a central defender, midfielder and a genuine striker are needed in the next transfer window.

Is there any way of telling which teams are likely to be promoted for next season? I think Peru only has one playable league so this may be impossible to tell. Hopefully Cusco can return to the Superliga and stay there for more than one season.

Yes there is only one playable league so I there is no way for me to know which teams will be promoted. I thought promotion form unplayable leagues is based on reputation, so Cusco Athletico should be promoted sometime soon!!

2011 End of Season Update

League Standings

After the brilliant Opening Stage LW FC had, they could not keep up with Los Incas, who were a class above everyone else and finished with 19 points distance to second place. This second place was not held by LW FC either though, CDT were on form in the last few games and managed to overtake LW FC, meaning The Warriors will have to play in the qualifying stage of the LIbertadores. Lima's form had also dropped due to the distraction of the Copa Sudamericana and they dropped to 5th, followed by World Starz, who had a very good Closing Stage. All the other teams were very far away from that holy 5th place, Ciudad in 6th were 12 points off. It was pretty much confirmed at the halfway stage, but Melgar and Juan Aurich were relegated and 10th placed Puno were a massive 32 points ahead of Melgar.

Rival Watch

Capital Rivalry

Even though LW FC were the best Lima side this season they still didnt manage to get good results against their rivals. A win and two draws in 8 derbies is a pretty poor record and many say it is the difference between 3rd and 2nd place. World Starz are still the top side when it comes to derbies as they also had a psotive rcord agains Lima this year, the highlight being a 4-1 drubbing at Stadio de Lima.

Lima vs. LW FC

Lima vs. World Starz

LW FC vs. World Starz

Southern Rivalry

Both clubs had awful seasons and the bragging rights in the derby turned into a much more important matter in this situation. Sadly for both sides they couldnt even do that. Both won their home games and even the goal difference in the clashes evened out. At least Atletico Arequipa can claim they finished higher up in the league and Puno will certainly not be happy with another 10th place after a good season last year.

Atletico Arequipa vs. Puno

Mountain Rivalry

It was only Mayobamba C.F. against Los Incas this season again as Cusco still didnt manage to get out of Second Division hell. And agin Los Incas dominated the matches, winning the first 3 enounters. The only Mayobamba win came at the Mayobamba Pit on the last day of the season, when Los Incas title was long secured.

Los Incas vs. Mayobamba C.F.

Northern Rivalry

CDT, the only northern side without a title, were by far the best side of the region again and also dominated the local derbies. The record was 6-2-0 against Ciudad and Norte Chico, including a couple fo trashngs away form home. The once powerful Norte Chico also had a negative record against Ciudad and even got beaten 5-2 at the La Ciudad de Huanuco Estadio.

Sudamericana Watch

First Preliminary Round

Lima

First up for Lima, were the perfectly riming Tolima side, not a very traditional Colombian side, but a decent side. The first leg at Manuel Murillo Toro was a very bad match for Lima and they lost 2-0, courtesy of an Oscar Campo double. That was very wrrying for Lima and everyone was already ruling the side out and a lot of criticism cam Renato Gaucho's way. However the second leg was a fine display by Lima and they trashed the Colombians 5-0, courtesy of a MoM performance and two goals from Renato Augusto.

1st Leg

2nd Leg

Puno

Te Panthers were drawn against slightly beter oppostion in Medellin, but they got to a much better start than Lima, banging in two goals in the first half an hour at the Pwnage Arena. Medellin scored just before the break to destabilisize Puno and they werent the same in the second half. They conceded just after the break and didnt react to Medellins comeback, leaving them very vulnerable fot the second leg. The game was very tense again and Medellin managed to score just before the break once more to put them with a firm foot in the next round. Puno went all-out to try and turn the game around, but with little effectivness. As the game seemed to be lost Humberto Suazo came to the rescue scoring in the 8th minute, folowe by a Jose Carlos Fernandez goal to tutn the tie around in the last few minutes!! However Medellin and their ability to score at the right moment popped up again and the game went to penalties. Puno kept somewhat more composed and secured the all-Peruvian clas in the Second Preliminary Round

First Preliminary Roud Overview

Second Preliminary Round

With Puno having a torrid time in the league Lima were clear favourites for this clash, although we have seen surpises in South American Peruvian clashes before, so nothing was guaranteed. Not this time though, Lima completely outclassed Puno at their own ground and were 3-0 up after 70 minutes. After that the Panthers got their act together and scored a couple of goals in 10 minutes to reduce the difference significantly, however a 3-2 loss at hom didnt leave them with the best odds for the return leg. The situation was made even worst when Puno went down to 10 men after 18 minutes. After that it was all Lima and Puno could consider themselves lucky to have come out of the game with a 0-0.

Second Preliminary Round Overview

First Round

Once again Colo Colo crossed paths with a Peruvian side, the Chilean giants fancied their chances although the recent improvements in Peruvian football should be noted. It was aperfect start for Lima when Renato Augusto scored with 7 minutes to go at the Monumental in Santiago. The lead didnt last long as Colo Colo equalized 8 minutes later. It was a very uneventful game after that until Renato Augusto having another amazing south American performance, scored just before the 70th minute to give Lima a vital away win. Colo Colo were determined to overcome the deficit and played very offensive football at Stadio de Lima. John Jairo Castillo put them ahead halfway through the first half, before Jose Paolo Guerrero equalized ten minutes later. It was a very nervy game for the Lima supporters after that, but a solid defensive display and a strong performance from midfield ensured progression to the quarters.

Quarter Finals

Next opposition for Lima was Gremio, a very traditional side who have a reputation as a strong cup team. Lima once again had a brilliant start away from as Jose Paolo Guerrero put them in fron after only 3 minutes. There was no response from Gremio in the first half, which was completely dominated by the Peruvians. The manager team-talks clearly worked for Gremio as they came out on fire and Edicxon Perea scored the equalizer ten minutes into the second half. After this the game remained tense with both sides going close to getting the winner, however the game ended in a good draw for Lima. Both sides were very nervous in the second leg and only a Leo own goal managed to get the game going for Lima late in the second half. After taking the lead Lima approached the game very defensively and almost payed the price for it. The ref gave Gremio a penalty in the 70th minute, but luckily Sammuel missed and Lima held on to ge thorugh to the semis.

Semi Finals

another Brazilian side came in the way of Lima, Flamengo the opponents this time round. The first eg was layed at the Stadio de Lima this tim, ut it didnt keep Lima from having another very good start. This time it cam a bit later, but the lead was achieved on the 28th minute courtesy of Jose Paolo Guerrero. Flamengo were determined to respond and get a vital away goal, but Jose Carvallo was arock in goal for Lima. Flamengo hearts were broken when on the 88th on a counter-attack there was a penalty awarded for Lima, which Jose Paolo Guerreo promplty scored. This put Lima in a very strong position to qualify for the final!! The pressure was on in a packed Maracana as Flamengo came out determined to overturn the two goal deficit. Their morale all but dissappeared on the 22th minute as Thiago Motta put the Peruvians ahead. This meant that Flamengo would need 4 goals to go through to the final. They only manaed to score two and Lima became the second Peruvian side in a continental final this year.

2nd Leg

Semi Final Overview

Final

Another batch of Brazilians stood in the way of Limas first international title, this side a lot less traditional than Gremio and Flamengo though, they have won the Brazilian League once and have been runners-up in the Libertaodores, but Atletico Paranaense dont have the same pedigree as the bigger sides in the country. As always Lima scored early in the first haf at the Kyocera Arena, Thiago Motta popping up with a long range effort. After that it was all Atletico but once again Lima produced a fine defensive display, even after Juan Manuel Vargas got himself sent off in the 70th minute. They managed to hold on to the lead and move a step closer to the title!! You could clearly see that the side was nervous going into the second tie, there were still a lot of youngsters in the team and they werent used to such big games. Atletico Parananense took full advantage of that and went ahead on the 22n minute. So going in at the break, the aggregate score was 1-1 and we would have penalites if it remained like this. Thats when the big players stepped up for Lima, Jose Paolo Guerrero equalized the game in the 60th minute to put Lima ahead on aggregate and Kaka socred on a counter in the 90th minute to put the icing on the cake. Lima had become the first Escobar side to win an international title!!

Managerial Changes

There were a few more changes in management this time, all caused by Norte Chico again. They didnt give Milton Cruz much of a chance and sacked him after 4 months in charge in early October. They somehwo managed to lure Renato Gaucho from Lima, who must have been on drugs when accepting to swap a side doing well in the league and having a good cup run, for a side that changes managers every 4 months and has been oing worse and worse as the seasons go by. Lima didnt take too long to find a replacement and hired Cuca, who also made a step down league position wise, but the prospect of winning an international title was probably enough to persuade him. CDT made a somewhat strange signing. The former Mayobamba C.F., World Starz and Argentina Goalkeeping coach was hired as manager. A very strange appointment, but he has managed to improve the sides form at the end of the season so he probably knows what he is doing!

National Team

Copa America

It was Copa America time and Peru were drawn in a relatively difficult group with Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivia.

vs. Argentina - A very good performance by Peru, a shame that Argentina managed to take the lead so quickly after Robero Jimenez' equalizer.

vs. Bolivia - The Bolivians got absolutely destroyed, the MoM was Jose Paolo Guerrero, who scored a double.

vs. Uruguay - Another very narrow defeat, although this was the worst performance by Peru in the Copa america so far.

Peru finished third as expected behing Argentna and Uruguay, but as the two best 3rd placed sides also qualify, Peru went thorugh to the quarters! Here the Group Tables:

Copa America Group Tables

As Peru just scraped through they obviously got really tough opposition in the Quarter Finals and had to play against Brazil.

vs. Brazil - Peru didnt have an amzing game, having mostly defended, but they were still unlucky to go out to an Miguel Villalta own goal in the 84th minute.

He is unsettled again and is considering his oprions. That is a big negative with Jair Baylon, he is very unprofessional and never really settles at any club... But I agree with you, he was very good this season and is finally turning into the player everyone expected him to.

Another disappointing season from underachievers Norte Chico...oh how the mighty have fallen.

9th in the league with the lowest goals scored of any Superliga club this season, by some distance too.

Good to see Manco arrive anyhow, definitely one to watch for the future. Yet another managerial change this season with Renato Gaucho chosen to take the team forward, although the fans aren't yet convinced; jeering chants of "you don't know what your doing" were heard coming from the home supporters during the closing stage of the season.

Chairman Timote Escobar was quoted as saying he was confused by Gaucho's selection policy, with unknown Spaniard Alverez picked to partner Robinho up front for much of the season, in place of the more obvious choice of Brazilian international Luis Fabiano. Manco seems wasted in the AMC position too; given his pace and skill surely he'd be more useful on the wing or even up front.

Hoping for some decent signings for next season. We need to strengthen down the flanks, particularly fullbacks if the manager persists with that 4-3-1-2 formation.

Congratulations to Los Incas for securing their second consecutive league title. They'll take some beating next season on that form. Well done to Lima too for being the first Superliga team to win a continental competition. Good to see the Peruvian national team start to improve too. Just wondering, have any regens broken into the national squad yet?

Great updates as usual Corinithiano. icon_smile.gif

I'm away this week by the way so won't be able to post until next weekend.

A couple of regens have broken into the national squad, but none have made an appearance so far, the best regen so far is Sanz who plays for CDT, I have posted his screenie und CDT's BHG if you want to have a look.

Thanks for letting us know you re off next week icon14.gif

Oh yeah and regarding good old Timote, I think he is a bit unpatient, his sackings per season rating beats everyones by miles icon_wink.gif
