If I understand it correctly, the one under "Nation Rules - England" is ID# 100000085, which I assume would be the one the game would actually use. I don't know if the other FA Vase (ID# 89022624) is messing anything up other than cosmetically. Would it be safe to just delete it? It does have History filled out though which 100000085 does not. The SI game isn't geared up for this level, so what I do is bring in my own restrictions. In this case, I simply wouldn't touch that money. I'd check in the team stats list the wage budgets of your league rivals and take one at or near the bottom to be my limit. Another thing I do that I've never seen any LLaMas mention is with staffing. Even with the tiniest amateur pub team you're allowed to start off with a DoF, HoYD, assman, 2 coaches, reserve staff, youth staff, scouts and physios. That's unrealistic. What I've done is sign an assman whose secondary role is HoYD, a coach who doubles up as DoF and the youth manager who is our sole scout. Can't do that with a physio so I've advertised and it took until December to get one in. I'm managing Millbridge FC...didn't see a Marjon in that league. I do hold some standard...i have few staff....and a lot of non-contracts.

funnylittlefrog
Is there anything I can do to the fine to make regional first divisions start the season on Saturday 11th August rather than the following midweek? As I’m sure you’ll know some clubs have an FA Cup extra-preliminary round that day which seems to skew the start date for the league season for all level 8 clubs. It isn’t a game breaker by any means but I’d like to change it if I can.

funnylittlefrog
It was a bit fiddly to do but I got there in the end. Another change I’ve made is to stop the extra-preliminary round pulling in level 8 clubs. In real life some do enter in that round, however whilst the file was also pulling in a handful of the same level 8 teams for every year of testing which is similarly unrealistic. In the absence of any knowledge to make having to play in that round completely dynamic (so dependent upon finishing low enough in the league) I decided instead to pull through extra teams from level 10 (all level 9 teams participate anyway. Not true to life but as I don’t intend to play below level 8 it suits me better to have the slight lack of realism lower down the ladder.
funnylittlefrog
I reversed the above change in the end as it messed around with entry rounds for national north/south teams. I’ll just have to suspend my disbelief at Coleshill Town starting a round earlier each year. Got the dates sorted, that was the main thing. I can get cracking with my Loughborough Dynamo save tomorrow evening now. Edited March 12, 2019 by funnylittlefrog

You can only use the kids that come up in your youth intake. It's my view that at this level, playing the game the regular way is far too easy - any chump can win the league year after year, so the youth challenge adds a significant level of difficulty. It's still the case, however, that if you start below about level 9, you'll still do very well but at least it won't be a walkover. I've just this minute finished my first season in a new save doing this and I won the title and promotion in the last 30 minutes of the season at level 12.

Start with 'add players' to get a squad of all ages. Use the squad but never bring in any more from outside. You can extend contracts. 2. Same as above but you can't extend contracts, so older players will be with you for the first season only. 3. Don't 'add players' and in your first pre-season bring in players aged 18 or below, then no more until intake day. Depends on the level of difficulty you're going for. The lower you start, the easier it is, so generally, we all start either in Vanarama North/south if we play FM 'out of the box' or better with one of these editor databases. If you use Dan's work here, any level from about 9-13 would be a good place to start. I'm not sure any of Dan's teams are amateur. It does make a key difference though. Players on amateur forms or non-contracts can leave at any time, and you can't replace them. Sometimes before intake day, I'm down to a full squad of 18 or fewer players. At least with semi-pro contracts you can keep your players. For me, the terror of losing your best players at a moment's notice adds to the fun!

Your leagues don't have levels included and you have 90 teams in your amateur league that aren't put into discrete divisions in the editor. I make it 12 levels altogether in that it takes 11 promotions to get from the lowest playable league to the top. I am using your earlier version of this but I had to do a lot of editing to make it compatible for a Journeyman career. I think if you put more care into it like Dan does, such as sorting out league and club reputations, it would be a great database.

So I started at level 12 with a basic hoof-ball, but I've moved to a level 10 side who have slow lumbering defenders but are decent passers up the park. It all depends on what you've got, but one general rule I follow is KISS!

Loda
Are there any loan limits, in terms of long-term loans & match-day limits, which apply below the VNN/VNS? I can't seem to find any info. for this, this low in the pyramid. Neither this or @lionel messi's mod. place any such limitations which means you could field a squad of loanees. I've tried to fill out the squads at step 3 and I'm pretty sure I haven't come across any side which has more than 5 long-terms (that doesn't take into account the first half of the season though and potential long-term, 'half season loans' up to January. Just squads as they are now). Maybe this is coincidental and there aren't any limits but personally I'd be surprised and thought it was worth questioning. rufnek1980
Not sure if this has been discussed but if I could do with a few opinions on what is the most realistic approach to transfers starting at level 13. As we are all probably aware you can easily fill your team with 40-year-old 5-star experience players or get 5-star players to easily walk the leagues until you go semi-pro/pro or hit the conference leagues but just wanted to get your thoughts as to what is the accepted approach? I understand that maybe following the youth challenge rules is probably the most realistic but I don't want to be that rigid, just up until I reach semi-pro really or maybe pro So do I only go for my own youth players and make no transfers? or should I only look for transfers within my current league as they are local cos I do know teams still do poach other players in the lower levels (or they did when I played Sunday league anyway as a 16 yr old) Just need some opinions really as I don't want to feel I am cheating myself and want to keep as realistic as possible but not make it as rigid as the youth challenge either. just while I am an amateur team is what I am seeking guidance on regarding transfers? By the way, cheers Dan for all your hard graft on this database. I know many have said the same but hats off to you for bringing this to the community by adding depth to this already deep game. I appreciate all your hard work, frustrations and challenges you put into this and getting this DB to where it is in FM19 and FM's before. phnompenhandy
^ It's the Youth Challenge for me, but other realistic options would be players from your league (in booting up a game, add players from the local leagues around you and a division or two above), or you could go through the laborious process of checking the hometown of every player the scout brings to your attention - if he's from within 50 miles of you, he's kosher (google maps helps here). I have always followed the Youth Academy Challenge 'to the letter'. I've never got far enough to turn full time, but my intention would be to maintain the philosophy even then. Right now I'm doing my first ever Journeyman save which means I don't stick around long enough to see my youths develop, so I've switched to a Director of Football challenge there. I find, which you've noted, that if you don't set yourself some proper restrictions, the game's far too easy at this level and guaranteed promotion year after year bores me.
