luke4387
Guys, thanks to Welshace, I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 approx a year ago for FM16 and onwards. Have had no issues, runs smooth and perfectly, can load lots of leagues (I play with pretty much all Europe, China, USA and some South American leagues) and graphics can't be faulted. Can assure you if anyone reading decides to purchase, it will be money well spent!

Are there any other differences ? Also could anyone tell me what the build quality is like on the MSI? Are the keyboards back lit ? Whats the display like? Scribe
I'm looking for a bit of help on a new desktop please. Four years ago I bought this: "Titan 8700i Pulse" Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ 4.40GHz DDR3 Ivybridge System MSI HD 5450 1024MB GDDR5 Low Profile PCI-Express Graphics Card No Sound Card Upgrade Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-02050) System 12 Months Standard Warranty Microsoft Office Starter Edition Networking Not Selected Intel 330 Series 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive - Retail It's now gone kaput unfortunately, but it was doing a decent job running FM. How much do you reckon I'd need to spend to get something roughly equivalent these days? And any recommendations ? I don't think I'd get something overclocked again (too LOUD!) Shorno
19 hours ago, Welshace said: No cons for me .. Just depends what you fancy i.e... do you want a 17" laptop? or are you happy with a 15"? http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/9S7-16J612-408-MSI-GL62-6QD-408UK_1955707.html In fairness, I don't particularly need a 17 inch. I bought this exactly three years ago, and it's served me very well for playing FM. Always managed to get about 60,000 players loaded, with a large amount of leagues loaded and no slowdown really. But the graphics aren't very good. Playing on medium setting and the 3d games lag a bit - even with crowd turned off. In your opinion, is the upgrade on spec worth the extra money? I know it's hard for you to judge and it's a pretty personal decision, but with my awful knowledge of all things computers, am I likely to see much of an improvement in processing speed etc? Cheers in advance!
Welshace
It's most definitely a big upgrade on your current laptop... significantly better cpu, more ram, better hhd, and a dedicated graphics card... You will definitely see a big difference in performance, and it will last you a good few years..it has the best cpu for laptops you can get without delving into massively expensive desktop grade cpu's in laptops..... but only you can decide whether it's worth the upgrade or not really. Not a bad price but definitely not the most powerful spec you can get for that sort of money.. the cpu is a workhorse, but it is still a U model. martplfc1
It's all relative, I guess. Those specs aren't outstanding tbf, especially the lack of dedicated graphics card. However, the processor is pretty good, despite being a 'U', so if you're happy with the speed, then that's all that matters.

martplfc1
SSD. It wouldn't process FM faster though. In fact, I'd avoid having solely an SSD if possible - as it is a microchip it wears out the more it is used. SSD for O/S only is how I understand it. martplfc1
I believe so yes. It accesses things quicker than a mechanical drive, so you should see quicker start/load/save/quit times but not much else.
