Desperado83
Hi, I'm also looking at this laptop for fm use, just wondered if you purchased it? If not what else did you find similar than can run fm ok. I really don't want a big heavy 15" laptop
cufc1111
I mostly link to 15.6 inch screens as it's probably the most widely used at a budget..It would depend on what you want to do with those programs.. to clarify, I mean, general photoshop work isn't that intensive, but when you take into account image editing and processing, you'd ideally want a very decent screen, a decent graphics card and a good SSD (as you are usually calling 100's if not 1000's of high res image files into and out of PS). So for image editing/processing you are looking at a more specialised laptop. That being said, the same things that make a laptop great for image editing will also be great for FM. So as with everything it would depend on budget, baring in mind you might be paying extra for the functionality to image process efficiently. As an example, I've just thrown this together, which is of a similar budget but caters more to what you need..Cosmos Series: 17.3" Matte HD+ LED 16:9 Widescreen (1600x900) *larger HD screen* Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4710MQ (2.50GHz) 6MB *quad core, multithreading* 16GB HyperX IMPACT 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 8GB) *More than enough ram, more than you need infact and good quality* INTEL® HD GRAPHICS MEDIA ACCELERATOR 4600 *Not a dedicated graphics card, but capable, can swap in a graphics card in lieu of ram etc if necessary* 480GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W) *480GB of space, but in SSD form, important when image editing* Price : £760.00 Which was made on pcspecialist btw. Loads of great advice there, thanks. Yes, it would be image processing and editing in Photoshop rather than general graphics, and I've always done that on a PC before rather than a laptop, but this time around I'd like a laptop with the ability to process images. If I was to get a dedicated graphics card as well, is there one you'd recommend for say another £100-ish? As you can tell, it's several years since I've chosen a laptop or PC and I'm very out of touch. I'll have a look at pcspecialist now. Thanks again. danielrosamond
Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere! Played CM/FM since mid 90s and always done so on a desktop. However, I am going to purchase a new laptop but of course want to make sure FM16 will run smoothly preferably with the 3d match engine. Will this laptop be sufficient? http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-aspire-f5-571-15-6-laptop-black-10137492-pdt.html Sorry for my ignorance but computers move on too quick for me since leaving school 12 years ago haha. frank_olaf
I'm not getting a new laptop at the moment but am considering upgrading the RAM in mine and was wondering if anyone here could tell me if it's worthwhile or not. I currently have 4GB of ram with a Intel Core i5-2430M processor @2.40GHz (the laptop was bought it 2011). It's a 64 bit system. I'm considering upgrading to 8GB (or possibly even 16GB) or RAM. Would this be a worthwhile upgrade? Will it run FM faster or is FM speed more based on the processor? FM15 ran fine and FM16 works ok as well (it does seem a little bit more lagey). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
danielrosamond
Just for the record I bought this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4243038.htm and FM is running great.Full graphics settings and processes really quickly. Very happy. When u say full graphics settings does this include 3d engine?

CameronAshworth1981
When u say full graphics settings does this include 3d engine? Hello Yeah It can run full 3d match engine. The AMD A10 CPU also helps the GPU out graphics wise I think. I am not fully clued up on the subject however. It runs Football manager really well tho so far. Maybe somebody with a bit more knowledge can help.

Depends on what model you buy. If you spend 500 quid on a PC laptop you'll get a 500 quid experience. If you spend 2000 quid on a Mac then you'll have a much better experience. But spend 2000 quid on a PC and you'll have a much better experience than that Mac. Generally speaking, of course. Tartan Tourist
Hi guys, Been reading a lot in this thread and I have learned a lot. I think this would be an excellent laptop for a good few years to come: Windows Intel® Core™ i7-5557U Processor Memory: 16 GB Graphics: Intel® Iris™ Storage: 1 TB http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-aspire-v3-574-15-6-laptop-silver-10133297-pdt.html?srcid=369&xtor=AL-1&cmpid=aff~Reevoo~Editorial%20Content&istCompanyId=bec25c7e-cbcd-460d-81d5-a25372d2e3d7&istItemId=lrmlqllla&istBid=t&awc=1599_1446993976_ce37e75046738b541ef3e6e5ce6115c5 I am confident in the power of the processor (i7) & 16GB RAM. My only query, does anyone know about the specific graphics card in this one? Intel® Iris™ Graphics 6100 It's always hard to know the difference between them. I would be keen to be able to have the option of playing FM in 3D with max settings. Any joy with this one?
Markmilan
This is best laptop I can see currently for <£600 ... http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/CB-CZ5840-1010SP-Cube-Chameleon-CZ-5840_1811157.htmlBare in mind, it is probably overkill if your needs are just casual fm gaming.. but it really is a great deal for the price, I'm not quite sure how it is that cheap tbh. Has a great CPU (most important factor Re. FM) Plenty of RAM Loads of HDD space (no SSD though, in case that was important for you) and a 2gb dedicated graphics card as well... It'll play anything you throw at it decently ... Quite tempted myself. I went for this one. Thanks to Welshlace and Smurf for their advice above and on the previous page. With integrated graphics you can never be 100% sure as it usually depends on the load on the rest of the system too, but I have looked into that exact laptop a few days ago for someone else and the Iris is on par with say a GeForce-820M, which while an entry level card, should run fm with no issues at all in my opinion. Can't really fault your choice tbh.

Welshace
The Acer has a considerably better CPU.. i'd stick with that one. The only thing you'll gain from your newest suggestion is a better graphics card, and while it is better, it's not a huge jump in terms of running FM. That being said, if you prefer the look and the screen, you might be happier with that one.. Suffice to say, both will run FM perfectly fine (and certainly more than the few leagues you were running previously) Just to throw a spanner in the works though... How about this for cheaper... Welshace
Macs are great for image editing etc, but they are vastly over priced for the general photo editing at home kinda stuff. You can spend £500- £600 and get an up to date system which will run FM perfectly with whatever you throw at it as well as anything else, especially if you've already got an OS,Monitor etc.
Smurf
Macs are great for image editing etc, but they are vastly over priced for the general photo editing at home kinda stuff. Not really true. And perhaps you're talking in generalities, but I'd like to address this from my PoV. There's a free photo editing software called GIMP that is extremely similar to Photoshop - it doesn't really have colour managed workflow - or support spot colours - but it's an excellent open source photo editing program that allows saving to common file types, tiff, gif, jpeg, png, etc. I've never used it - but I hear it's good. (I use photoshop). And there's plenty of really good free photo editors for the PC. Just not to dwell on the Mac vs PC argument, I am a user of both and have been for about 18 years for professional work. 18 years ago Macs were superior for photo/video editing, heck even 10 years ago. But it's simply not the case anymore. PCs have really caught up - and most software is cross-platform compatible, that is, your Adobe suite can be installed on Mac or PC. Some software is still still OS restricted, Like corel draw is restricted to Windows only. I wouldn't recommend a Mac to my worst enemy. That's to say - there's no point in getting a Mac and blowing your lot of 1500 quid on a Mac because you heard they're fancy. Yes, you will look cooler in Starbucks! If you're playing FM and you want to get the best experience - spend your money on a really really good PC. Unless you have OS restricted software (like programs you need that only work on a Mac) then there's no need to spend a lot of money on a Mac. For a 1500 price tag on a Mac, you can put together a better PC worth 1000 quid. If your work centers on a Mac environment, say like graphic design, where all the fonts must be compliant with a Mac - then sticking with a Mac is good enough reason for me. If you buy a PC and everyone else has a Mac you might get cross-platform issues, such as font compliancy. If you own Apple TV, an iPad, an iWatch, or want to go that route, then get a Mac. But for FM - I always recommend following your wallet and get a really really good PC for less than you'd pay for a Mac.

Smurf
Pretty sure you're preaching to the crowd there Smurf... not sure where what I said contradicts you Absolutely - I just wanted to make clear that photo editing can be done any platform, it's the software that allows that, not the OS. And wasn't saying anyone contradicted me I just wanted to make it clearer. @SmurfNobody has advised to buy a mac unless they're already very invested in the ecosystem or if they want to buy this just as a status symbol. Absolutely, but people are asking if buying Mac is worth their while for FM (over a PC), and the answer is "NO" - my advice has always been to invest that same money in custom PC and you'll have a much better FM experience. Of course if you're already heavily invested in the Apple system with other products, then it makes sense to keep going that way. But it is a fact that some people associate owning a Mac as a status symbol and I encourage people that are buying for FM to forget about all that and focus on the core components that make FM run very well. Of course if someone wants a Mac - then have at it - and good luck to them. They are fine computers and I'm sure they'd have a great experience with them. fabioke
I completely understand Smurf my sense of reality get's challenged every time I speak with Apple owners. I would never advise someone who isn't in the ecosystem to join it, but the placebo is so strong that getting someone out of it is too much hassle. Benchmarks, real life test, being lectured by non-technical people, confronting them with facts(hey, dude you had to bring in your mac several times and paid a lot of money) hasn't helped. Big-Murph
My Acer TravelMate P253-E ticks all the minimum requirements for Football Manager 2016, minus the fact that the Intel® HD Graphics video card is only 128MB dedicated video RAM (256MB is required to run Football Manager 2016 at a minimum). However, the Intel® HD Graphics video card has shared memory, which in theory should allow me to increase the dedicated video RAM to the required amount. Am I right in saying this? Or will I also be needing to buy a new laptop?
Welshace
You are correct, but if in doubt, wait for the demo and check.. That being said, if you've been playing fm15.. you should be fine.

Yeah FootMan 15 has been fine to run for me, however I have read that apparently games will reject the ability to play them if the MINIMUM dedicated video RAM doesn't meet requirements, which in my case would be 128MB. Welshace
No even if your system doesn't up the vRam automatically, you can do it yourself ... I'd put money on you being able to play.... If not , steam now refunds any game as long as it is within 14 days and has less than 2 hours play on it.

I assumed so to begin with but when I checked with Can I Run It? it suggested that I didn't fit the minimum requirements for FootMan 16 because of the dedicated video RAM.
