batch
Hi, Probably going to look at getting a new PC over the summer. My current desktop is close to 10 years old and was pretty decent at the time but struggles a little now. Bit stuck though - I'm not sure if I should look at a laptop instead. Back when I got my current desktop you got miles more bang for your buck if you went for a desktop over a laptop - is this still the case? - or can you get similar specs on both laptop and desktop for the same money? Probably looking to spend £800 max and use for FM (and the other strategy game) and a bit of photo editing. Edited June 18, 2020 by batch

Yeah I'd get a new monitor - current one I have works fine but it's 15 years old now so no point investing in a new system and still running it on that. It doesn't even have HDMI connection I don't think. Mice and keyboard I have. Edited June 18, 2020 by batch

But Razor laptops are very good game machines. However, FM isn't a typical game. Most games need a mid-ish processor and a mid-high end graphics card. FM needs a very good processor and a low-mid range graphics card. 9 hours ago, Garethjohn79 said: Anyone know why Box refuse to price match Currys PC World? I don't know if they do - if the graphic settings are set to Auto then it would obviously automatically try and match your settings to your specs. But I honeslty don't know. Read some reviews. To find the right ones, copy the model number (of the laptop) from the product page and the google it with "review" added. Decent reviewers will include the model number in their review. Personally I don't think the 4800h laptops are giving you enough more performance (other things being equal) to justify the extra price, but that's usually the case when you get to higher tier tech I guess. Look out in the reviews for comments about build quality, the screen, thermal performance, noise and battery life. If these areas are better it would help to justify the higher asking prices. Or these? https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-series-3-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-256-gb-ssd-10205977-pdt.html vs https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=133W8EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB Based on the processor the HP is going to be the fastest, but the Lenovo from Curry's wouldn't be too far behind. The ones from Box are all 1-2 years old and the AMD ones in particular will be significantly behind. Edit: as I always recommend though, check online reviews for the specific laptop model you're considering. This will help you avoid choosing something with a deal breaker like a terrible keyboard or that overheats. Edited June 23, 2020 by Gangor
Malicious Penguin
Thanks @Gangor - I think the HP is so new, the reviews are lacking right now! Is it fair to say that's the max spec I can get for sub £700?
