That one is actually the one I was thinking of getting. 128gb is quite a small amount of storage. Not sure if that can be expanded. BluebirdsCCFC
Evening all, hope you're well. Welcome back, Smurf I'm looking to invest in a new laptop ready for FM21. Budget of £600-£700. Will only be used for FM, Remote Desktop to a work server and general browsing. I'd quite like to get it from Argos because I have £200ish worth of vouchers that can only be used there. I see they have 'laptops' and 'gaming laptops'. Should I be looking at a gaming laptop, or are they only really for graphics-intense games? I'm not bothered about using the 3D engine as I've only ever used the 2D dots before. Would be nice to run 7/8 countries with a large DB though. Any advice appreciated - many thanks. Edited September 30, 2020 by BluebirdsCCFC

It's rumoured that the first will be the A14x - but typical Apple, I can't find any information on it's speed, although the only info I found was that it was on par with the i7-8750H - which would make it good for FM. Secondly, FM21 is not yet released, so we do not know the minimum specs required for FM21, although it will likely be similar to FM20. As long as it meets the minimum specs for the game - then it will run. If it's below or close to the minimum specs, expect below and up to minimum performance. The higher it is above minimum spec, expect a higher performance. See i'm willing to spend upto 2.5K pounds for my new laptop, as it will be my daily driver (I only play FM20) so, that is why I would consider laptops like XPS 15 (maybe 13), Razer Blade 15, MSI GS66, or something similar. Can you suggest something in that kinda range?
World Class Keeper
Good Evening guys, Been having a look through and so far no one has mentioned battery life from the 10 or so pages, I currently have a laptop that runs FM okayish and would prefer to renew and future proof so assuming I would get atleast £200/£250 I would have a budget of about £750 give or take £100 and wondering what the best spec laptop I could get that boasts an incredible battery life that won't need charging every 1 hour or so. Cheers

I know its a big budget but I tend to keep my laptops for a long period of time. My current Macbook Pro 15 is from 2013 and still working well, but graphics are weak for today's standard with just 2GB RAM. I got Apple care with it so was sorted for 4 years. I think 17in screen is too big to carry around freely, that is why I had mentioned 15in (I'm ok to get a 14 or 13 in, as long as they have graphic capabilities). I have heard that the new Intel Gen 11 Tiger Lake processors with Xe integrated graphics have good graphics to handle games. I know so far U processors laptops will be available soon and H will come round something in mid-2021. So what would you suggest? Do you think the Xe will be able to handle FM20 and going forward FM21+? Or should I stick to the H processors? Note: I will be using the laptop in work settings too so anything with flashy LED keyboards etc will not work. Mr Tom
Hi, I need help i know that intel are better in single core but don’t know if intel is more optimised and smoother than amd. i don’t know if it worth getting a laptop with a i5 10300h, 512 ssd and 1650/ti. Or is a i7 9750h or 10750h much of a improvement in fm. Because the single core is similar. or get a laptop with a Ryzen 4600h & RX 5500m.

Fola
Hello. My current laptop runs fm very slowly so I am looking for a new one for fm20 and fm21 when it comes out. My budget is around £700. I only use my laptop for browsing the Internet and mostly this site. I dont use it for movies or any other games other than fm. I play 2d classic so don't need fancy graphics. I am pretty clueless on computers so would love some recommendations. My current save takes about 2/3 just to process one day on fm! I run 5/6 countries with a large database usually. I am currently using England only but with a custom lower league database and it is going crazy slow. Pretty much looking for a laptop that for fm is very quick and will allow me to enjoy the game as I hope but I dont use 3d graphics. I would love a laptop to just fly through fm as I do spend a lot of time pressing the space bar! Thanks

It'll be able to play FM at the level you've described really nicely, and the integrated graphics will be good enough if you do want to play in 3D at any point. Thank you, Kev. I really appreciate that. Will be buying it tomorrow.

Is that possible? Yes, generally the RAM is one of the few things you can upgrade on a laptop (but that does depend on the laptop model - it's not always possible). I'd check with your local computer repair store if you have one, but you'd probably be able to upgrade to 16GB RAM.

I am just moving my FM stuff onto on external hardrive then I am going to wipe my computer and start from scratch. Would you recommend that?

Back up anything you want to keep (your FM saves will be in your Documents folder, in case you didn't know). You may see a decent upgrade in performance as a fresh install should get rid of all the bloat you accumulate in your system over time.

I have moved my saves and tactics onto an External hardrive. Everything else can go- I will delete all the facepacks and everything too and reupload. Sorry if this is a silly question but I have never rebooted and wiped a laptop before. Is this how to do it? https://www.techradar.com/uk/how-to/computing/how-to-factory-reset-a-laptop-1318286

I'd follow this guide, as some of the steps in the one you've linked look like they're for an older version of Windows: https://uk.pcmag.com/windows-xp-2/118555/how-to-factory-reset-windows-
Bayern Bru
Hi, would this be suitable for running 2-3 nations saves? I only ever really play one save long term for 10 seasons or so, with top league loaded and nearby nations. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8181756 Budget is about £600. Only requirements out with processor/ram is needs to be 14 inch HD screen. Edited October 1, 2020 by Bayern Bru

What's your budget and we can take it from there. I’m looking at a laptop with a i5 10300h, 1650, 256 ssd and 8gb ram(2933mhz) & laptop with Ryzen 4600h & rx 5500m, 256 ssd and 8gb ram(3200mhz) so don’t know if Ryzen or intel is more optimised for fm? It should work ok, even though the clock speed is below the minimum recommended for FM due to the way these newer processors work. Another one to consider is this one. I can speak from experience with the previous generation of this particular CPU (I have a laptop with the Ryzen 5 2500U) and managed a more demanding game setup than you're after and found the processing to be quick: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9085538

Traditionally, you would say Intel because of their single core performance, but that's not necessarily quite so true these days. With these two CPU's specifically though, I'd go for the Ryzen. The Intel scores marginally higher in single core performance (which is the biggest factor in FM, but it is a marginal difference), but the Ryzen has more cores and more threads so you will see a stronger overall performance from the Ryzen. Terry1406
Hey, new to the forum. I recently got a laptop for my son for his birthday and wanted to know if it would run the upcoming FM game? Sadly I can not afford to get a better one so if it isn't good is there any settings i can use to make it better? He said something about adding a megapack to the game that is 16GB for faces, could the laptop handle that? https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9206197

The CPU is pretty decent. 4GB RAM isn't ideal and may slow things up a bit, but it shouldn't be unusable in any way. He probably won't be able to have the 3D match graphics at the highest settings, but I'd imagine it should handle medium settings well enough. With regards to the graphic packs, that should be fine as long as he has left sufficient space on the storage to download them. Bayern Bru
Thanks for reply. So both of these would run 2-3 nations comfortably then? Worried that Laptop 1 only has "1.6GHz processor speed with a burst speed of 4.2GHz". Would this be sufficient? Laptop 1 Laptop 2 Thanks

Thank you You can generally upgrade the RAM, but I would imagine modifications like that would void the warranty, so I would exercise caution in that regard. If you have a computer repair store locally, ask them what the costs would be to increase the RAM to 8GB, and check with the manufacturer if it would affect the warranty. However, I don't imagine it will struggle to run the setup you've described. 4GB is still above the minimum suggested requirements - it's just not necessarily optimal. I'd see how it handles before looking at any changes though as you may find your son is more than happy with how it runs it all.
