Thanks for that mate. As I'll likely be getting £220 off that littlewoods one, so effectively it'll come to around £400. Would you say it'll be a decent PC to run FM on? As I say, it'll be mainly used for FM and general use/browsing like. Thanks again.

Yes, it'll run FM just fine, and like the Athlon based one you linked previously does have good integrated graphics.

But do carefully consider what you're buying - I know you've said you have the credit note with them, but you could spend slightly more on that cash price on the one in PC Specialist (which also offers finance) and still have your £220 Littlewoods credit to spend on something else.  I'm assuming you mean £220 in pure cash credit rather than via a credit facility that you need to repay.

If the £220 you're alluding to is a cash based credit you have, it does seem like a massive false economy to use it on a computer which is almost £200 more expensive than a virtually identially specced one from somewhere else.

Think I may have found the laptop I was looking for.

https://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?mancode=GA401IU-HE017T&manufacturer=ASUSTEK&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIntLamNTG7AIViKztCh0aKQDcEAQYDCABEgI79_D_BwE

I've looked around for a 13"-14" screen but this seems to be the best I can find.

Open to recommendations from elsewhere :)

Spec-wise it's a beast.  Very high end CPU and strong graphics card to boot.

One thing that does worry me though is that it suggests at least one of the sticks of RAM is soldered into the board.  Strikes me as odd as I've never heard of that before.  Maybe @Smurf has heard of that before?

I'm assuming the credit is from returning something previously bought from Littlewoods so if it were me I'd be thinking of that £220 as cash in my pocket. So buying either of those PC's isn't really at any sort of discount

The first question I would have is what else you'll be using the laptop for.  You'll get decent performance for FM, but it's suitability would depend on your other intended uses for it.

For example, if you play other games as well, it's probably not going to be adequate.

The one I linked has more RAM, and this one has a higher specced version of the graphics card.

If you're going to play other games aside from FM, then I'd definitely choose the one you've just linked due to the slightly better graphics card.

If FM is the only game you play, I'd probably go for the other one as the 2GB version of the graphics card will be just fine for FM's 3D at higher settings, but you'll get the advantage of having more RAM in the machine.

Just wanted to say thank you mate, I went for the higher graphics card as I have 16gb ram lying around just waiting to he plugged in haha so I have the best overall machine I could have gone for. It arrived the next day too! Bring on Fm 2021!

Ok, you'll want to make sure the RAM you have is compatible with the new machine, but enjoy!

Hey, thanks for the fast response!

So i'd love something that would be fast and comfortable to work at as a student and considering games I want to play just fm  basically without lagging at 3d if possible at this budget.

Any other recommendations at this budget ? (600-800 euros)

Thanks in advance once again

If that one is still available it's probably about as good as you'll get within the price range.  You probably want to be looking at a Ryzen for decent 3D performance on FM without a dedicated graphics card, and this is probably about the strongest Ryzen processor within that price range.

Thanks a lot bro.

Okay newbie question alert and probably it is mentioned somewhere in the 96 pages of the forum but :

Could you point me out what should I be looking for specs-wise on a laptop in order to have a smooth experience in football manager?

Is processor the most important? The graphics card? Ram space  and SSD hard drive ?

Thanks and sorry for the spam.

The processor is the biggest consideration, followed by RAM.

In terms of RAM, you really want 8GB at least, but 16GB is ideal.

Type of storage (SSD or HDD) is not much of an issue for FM, but you will get faster overall computer performance with an SSD.

Graphics card only really affects the 3D match graphics, and all laptops even without dedicated graphics cards will be able to display 3D to some capacity so a dedicated graphics card isn't essential. You will find that AMD processors will generally be able to have the 3D graphics settings in higher settings than Intel, as the AMD processors tend to have stronger integrated graphics capability.

Another thing to consider is FM is most suited to a full HD resolution (at least 1920x1080).  Lower resolutions will hinder the experience a little as there is less info on screen on match day.

Can only second this. These guys helped me an wow my fm love is back where it was 6+ years ago. Forgot how amazing of a experience it could be with all the bells an whistles.

graphically on a decent screen my saves looks beautiful now.

This is the laptop I currently have and I have been using it since 2013 with no problems (except it has slowed down a bit but this probably bound to happen at some stage).

I am interested in the 'soldered' part as I have no clue as to what it means.

Would 8gb ram still be sufficient?

I’m looking to get back into the full FM experience (I’ve only played the mobile game over the last couple years after developing an addiction to FM11 which led to crap GCSE Mock results after spending the best part of entire revision period leading Man City to world domination with Connor Wickham spearheading the team) however I’m looking to purchase a laptop and utilise it for no other reason but to play fm21. Would this laptop be ok

https://www.studio.co.uk/shop/electricals/computers---laptops/laptops---macbooks/141-inch-windows-10-laptop-p-pln337693?swatchColour=Rose Gold ?

@Smurf is there a laptop priced under £300 that you’d recommend? Thank you so much

I've seen box.co.uk linked a few times here.

I will be getting it delivered to Ireland so just wondering if anyone on here has had any experiences with this?

Not to Ireland but I’ve experience using box.

Product I received. Top notch. Very happy.

customer service? Could be improved. I enquires about blue light discount for serving emergency workers. Received a rude reply saying simply no discounts. Didn’t even get the standard professional company lines justifying it etc. Just no discounts.

There websites is awful. Which for a company selling technological products is baffling. Spend well over £1000 an didn’t even get a confirmation email to say the product was on the way. Noticed the money was gone so checked my box account an it said I had no outstanding or pending orders. Scary times. Especially when the wife noticed 😂. I think the error come about due to box also owning another differently named laptop site (slips my mind) and somehow the account I made on that website 10 odd years ago is causing some kinda issue on box (not that they admit or have fixed that issue).

ultimately the products are cracking as you’d expect. The service and communication as a company needs a lot of work. Especially when customers are spending a lot of money.

That's a cracking laptop.

I'm in Ireland, but no experience buying from Box.

Here's the same one on Elara - an Irish site

Might be better if you needed a return or something.

Agreed about Customer service. I emailed them a few times and basically found out through a bit of research, they are just a reseller linked to a database - you're just placing the order through them. They get a percentage of the sale, as far as I know.

And their website being awful, I disagree, I only use them to find computers, as the filterrs are better than  most out there.

I'd always encourage to look elsewhere if needed.

But I find their website one of the easiest to use.

Oh no sorry smurf. In terms of the website it’s fine. Easy to read an has good filters. (Good prices too).

just frustrated with the member services. Your info about it being a reseller makes sense as I’d never used box prior to purchasing my laptop. However after purchase when I logged in it said I had no orders....but oddly it had my saved delivery address as an old work one which I haven’t worked at for years. I can only assume one of their linked sites I’ve used years ago an my new profile is bleeding through somehow. Just wasn’t an easy process for me personally.

would use them again for the deals an quick delivery though.

Ah that will be it! I used that site for my ASUs about 10 years ago lol. That’ll explain why my account is messed. They don’t seem to listen/care to my concerns about this. No big deal though. Got my laptop thankfully.

Hi all, Posted in the wrong thread, sorry admin.

After 9 years of service I want to upgrade my PC. I don't even want to think about how many hours it has run FM!

I am looking at upgrading to the following, FYI I don't play FPS and really besides home use the only other game I play is Blood Bowl, so graphics is not super important. I will be using some prexisting parts such as my case (Antec 1200v3). Any feedback on if this is over/underkill let me know. I was told a Ryzen might be better, I am only really familiar with Intel so any advice is appreciated. I  would like to play most leagues at a high level of detail. Thanks in advance My budget is about $1500 Australian

Processor

Intel Core i5 10600K Hexa Core

@canberraguy The new Ryzens are out in November and they look superb.  I'm an Intel guy myself but I think with these new processors they will catch up with Intel for a standard FM setup and will be a LOT better if you aim to run in higher detail - check out the FM20 Performance Benchmarking Thread.  Benchmark 3 has the detail level ramped up.

Your choice of graphics card seems sensible enough based upon your needs as are your cooling and storage choices.

It's all preference though really as I'd personally go for a cheaper SSD and probably an air cooler so that I could sink all of my funds into getting the best processor I could afford because it's the most important thing FM-wise

Do you have a PSU already or does that need to be factored into the cost?

The rule of thumb is that FM likes higher frequency in normal setups but if you ramp up the detail it likes higher core and thread counts

one more thing is that your RAM choice is probably overkill for an intel system but would be spot on for Ryzen

I'm close to a new build myself and I'm really undecided which way to go as I do like to do a spot of overclocking which would make me lean towards Intel but as I say the Ryzens do look fantastic

Of course it remains to be seen whether FM21 is further optimised for more cores and threads which could change everything

I agree the Ryzens look great - and they are, and I'm not a Intel vs AMD guy...

What I look for for FM is single core performance, and Intel has this at the moment. A lot of the game is processed in single core.

It's hard to know how the AMD will do for FM - as it's unproven. So I'm skeptical promoting it for FM.

But on paper, looks delicious! But I'll have to wait and see how it's going.

Definitely

I can't wait to start the benchmarking thread for FM21 and I'm hoping the new AMD desktop chips have the same gains as the new mobile ones have.

You're right about recommending Intel though, most situations have them out ahead, I only recommended Ryzen in this case because he'd mentioned using high detail on another thread

The higher end AMDs in the 4600h and higher have great specs.

So my desktop is i7 8700k, 1070, 32gb ram which obviously runs FM great for probably years and years to come lol. But im away a few times a year with work and holidays etc and decided id like to play FM when away from home. It would literally only be a laptop for general things like netflix, browsing the net and gaming wise only FM so based on that and FM not being a demanding game i ordered this to pick up Wednesday...

I can upgrade the SSD if needed but would this run at least around 4 nations 12 leagues? and would it run match in 3D not to fussed on the 3D to be honest.

Many thanks.

Hey everyone, Im looking to upgrade my laptop for general purposes, including FM, and thought I could ask for some help.

My current specs are:

i3-5005u processor @2ghz

8GB ram

2tb storage

Option 1:

Dell XPS 13 8390

  • Intel Core i7-10510U (4 Core), 1.8 GHz (4.9 GHz Max Turbo)
  • 16 GB (2 x 8 GB Fixed), DDR 3, 2133 MHz Ram
  • 512 GB Solid State Drive (M.2 SSD)
  • 13.3 inch 1920 x 1080 FHD, IPS InfinityEdge, Anti Glare
  • Intel UHD Graphics

Option 2:

Dell Inspiron 13 7391 2-in-1

  • Intel Core i7-10510U (4 Core), 1.8 GHz (4.9 GHz Max Turbo)
  • 16 GB (2 x 8 GB Fixed), DDR 3, 2133 MHz Ram
  • 512 GB Solid State Drive (M.2 SSD)
  • 13.3 inch 1920 x 1080 FHD, IPS Truelife LED-Backlit Touch
  • Intel UHD Graphics

Option 3:

Dell Latitude 15 5501

  • Intel Core i7-9850H (6 Core), 2.6 GHz (4.6 GHz Max Turbo)
  • 32 GB (2 x 16 GB), DDR 4, 2667 MHz Ram
  • 512 GB Solid State Drive (M.2 SSD)
  • 15.6 inch 1920 x 1080 FHD, Anti-Glare
  • 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150

Option 4:

Macbook Pro 13 inch

  • 1.4GHz quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645
  • 8GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 512GB SSD storage¹
  • 13-inch Retina display with True Tone

Currently, I'm leaning towards Option 2, the Dell Inspiron because its the cheapest, but I wanted to ask a couple of things:

1. in relation to Option 2 and 3 - What is the difference between Intel UHD Graphics and 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX150? And is this a noticible difference for FM?

2. in relation to Option 2 and 3 - Does going from 16 to 32 gb ram have a major difference for FM? I dont think Ive ever used 16 gb, but if I can get 32 in my price range is it worth an upgrade?

3. In regards to the Macbook Pro, If I was to upgrade either the processor to i7, or the Ram to 16gb, which one should I prioritise? And I know macbook pro graphics are normally great, would this spec be preferable over the other options? Or is there not much benefit to going for apple here?

4. Does anyone have any opinions between the Dell Inspiron and XPS? I know the spec is similar, so its more about the other spec, like keyboard etc, so this question is more about additional stuff.

Many thanks guys, I've never bought a laptop more than basic spec so needing all the help I can!

Processor, storage, graphics card. What's the budget?

£450ish as its just for when im away and needs to be through argos/currys as its a gift voucher i was given for these stores. A lot of the laptops are out of stock where i live (Bristol) as well which is a pain

I thought the CPU would be more than good enough FM?
