After dismissing reports of a move back to Lazio last week, the 36 year-old is now inviting the club's new owners to make him an offer. "In the first place, I am happy for the social aspect that Lazio has been saved, this was fundamental," said Di Canio. "I am training here in London, I only just signed a new contract with Charlton, but if they (Lazio) called me I would be very happy. "It's true that the fans still love me, even after all these years they know I'm one of them. "Every summer the club gets about 15,000 people signing a petition to try and get me back - I was successful when I was there and they have always kept up with how I've done in the Premiership. "It makes me proud, but I won't be going back as I love playing for Charlton at the moment." He added: "Lazio are in a bad situation at the moment, they have lost the manager Roberto Mancini and they are going to have to sell players. FMaddick
2-0 up and we lost 3-2 to their reserve side We played almost a full strength team and Euell missed a penalty at 2-
Scoham
Well nothing suprising about the friendly, Kishishev was bound to eventually score from really far out, shame he wasted it in a friendly Wouldn't be suprised if we were never going for Flamini anyway. Also we probably will sign someone no one has mentioned.
FMaddick
I'm getting quite annoyed now though We were promised 6 or 7 signings that we all expected to be quality with the Scott Parker money. The only really decent signing IMHO is Rommedahl. We desperately need a decent striker who can score 20 goals a season
Scoham
Everyone expected 6/7 signings that are big names, meaning El Karkouri and Hughes are bad signings/not good enough before they have even played. We still have time to get a couple more signings which we are meant to be. Defintly must be 1 striker at least though, not really sure who it could be though, and it probably won't happen until after the China tour.

FMaddick
According to the Daily Mirror, Fulham want to sign Claus for £1.5 million. I don't know why everyone thinks he's leaving us, i'd say he's our best player along with Matt Holland His contract expires in the summer though Everyone on the net addicks board just accept he#s leaving, i dunno hwy though
FMaddick
Claus just signed for Fulham for £1.25 million What is happening to us?
King Jeff
Jesus :/ I know he wasn't willing to sign an extension over the summer, but I had no idea he was on the verge of leaving. Also that fee seems really really low. *optimism quickly fading*
RedRob
He's our most skillfull player, I really don't understand the move unless there are a couple of really good players coming in. Basically the only money we've spent is probably 1m each on the Bryan Hughes and El Kakouri, 1m on Andersen, and 3.5m on Rommedahl - (including all the wages) Getting back 1.25m, and having a 14m kitty i'm expecting some serious business otherwise i'll be very annoyed
FMaddick
My hope at the end of the season was sky high, now it couldn't be less I suppose the club couldn't really do anything to keep Claus, but now they've got to sign some quality players and soon

Cottager
To expand on that, he seems to be non-existant in some of the games I've seen, but whilst he can tackle sometimes, he is really more of an attacking midfielder

FMaddick
I was worried when I saw Carrick but they've rejected the offer of £2.5 m Which means we'd have to pay more than that But having got rid of Jensen, do we want a player who in my opinion really is no better We're going downhill IMO I desperately hope Curbishley pulls 2 amazing signings out the bag but i'm starting to doubt that now

URZ- ReAdInG fC
Former Addick, Steve Brown has had to call his career off, after a niggling knee injury.
quote:
STEVE BROWN has officially quit football after finally being defeated by his long-standing knee problem. The central defender has come to an agreement with Reading Football Club over the final year of his contract and is now off the pay roll. Brown exclusively revealed in the Evening Post in May that he suspected his career was over, and after seeing a specialist last week his worst fears have been confirmed. He has a piece of floating bone, measuring 3x3 cm, in his right knee. And Brown yesterday revealed: “There was just no point carrying on if I didn’t want to cripple myself. “There was no real decision to be made. I still want to be able to play football with my kids in the park. “When I was first told I may have to call it a day it was a real shock, but it’s not too bad now. “Football has been my life, but I don’t want to over-step the mark and cause serious damage. “Being a footballer was never anything other than that. I feel extremely lucky to have been doing the job I did – something a lot of people would love to do. “In that respect I will miss it. I already miss the banter with the lads, but when I first started in football the aim was to play until I was 35. “I had a serious injury at 20 and I’ve carried on until 32. I have tasted the Premiership and have some good successes. “The only real shame is I really wish I could have called it a day on my own terms. “I was honestly thinking of stopping playing at the end of next year when my contract was up as injuries had taken their toll, but having to stop 12 months early is still a disappointment.†

Baptista_8
If you sign those three that would be good but Curbishley doesn't seem to have an eye for quality players. You finish in a top position and buy players like Hughes, El Karkouri, and give Ba a trial. While Hughes and El Karkouri are ok players, Curbishley should be attracting a higher calibre than that. Ok, youve signed Rommedahl but is he really going to be that big a success in the prem?
FMaddick
We've signed Murphy for £2.5 million! Re the above post, I personally believe we are not attracting players because of our low wage budget Though it's reasonable to believe there is something wrong as we don't seem to be able to attract big names

We have signed much worse players before, Hughes is only seen as bad because we didn't sign him from a bigger club. El Karkouri you really need to let him play some games this season first before saying he isn't a good signing. Murphy good signing hopefully can be better than Jensen and tackle! We are meant to be going for Jeffers but is there any other strikers? I think it is the wages that are the problem, top wage is meant to be around £20k a week, so we can't always sign everyone we would like to.
FMaddick
Totally agree with you Scoham Dunno if there are any more strikers, I think we have have run out of possibilities in the Premiership and so might have to turn to Division One ie. Earnshaw
T!mbo
Murphy looks to be a perfect signing to fill the void left by Jensen's departure (Which was a bit of a suprise given that you've recently signed two other Dane's). Bryan Hughes is certainly capable of doing a job and El Karkouri is far from rubbish and is also a much needed signing for you after sadly losing several defenders. I still think that you need one or two new defenders to keep up the progression but the new signings fit in with the ethos of the club with the exception of Rommedahl, who could be something of a luxury player. (but he's a cracking player who will expose the lack of quality left backs in the Premiership ) I think Julio Arca would be an excellent signing for what it's worth
King Jeff
I like the pick up of Murphy, and if we get Jeffers and Barton as rumoured I'd be pretty happy headed into the year. Scoham
Jeffers has just signed £2.6m 2 year contract.
quote:
Second England transfer coup Charlton have captured their second England international in the space of 24 hours after completing the signing of striker Francis Jeffers. The 23-year-old has signed a two-year contract after agreeing to move from Premiership champions Arsenal in a deal worth £2.6m. Addicks boss Alan Curbishley said: "We are delighted that Francis has agreed to join Charlton. "Arsenal paid a lot of money for him a few years ago but he found it difficult to claim a first-team place because of the competition at Arsenal. "He needed a change and he's exactly the sort of player I like to sign because I feel he's angry and hungry after the last couple of years. "I'm hoping that we can put his career back on track." Jeffers shot to prominence as a teenager with Everton, scoring 20 goals in 70 games in his first spell with the Merseyside club. And he has been prolific at international level, scoring a record-equalling 12 goals in 12 games for England U21s and celebrating his first senior appearance with a goal against Australia in a friendly at Upton Park in February 2003. Jeffers moved to Arsenal for £8m in summer 2001, but the player dubbed the 'Fox in the box' made just 39 first-team appearances in three seasons with the Gunners, and spent several months on loan back at Goodison Park last season.
