And I'll like to say that I'm nearing the end of another season at Real Oviedo. And in a 3 way dogfight with Sevilla and Villarreal for 3rd spot. I'll hopefully be able to write up an update tomorrow...

Man this game is so rigged. My player is in the middle of my half and clears the ball. It hits one of their players and it flies over all my players, lands at Ricarco Oliveira's feet where he has an easy finish. Before that they scored where my player tries to clear it but it hits the centre of my post and spins in....

I guess maybe I should tick counter attacking as well. :D

I'm done another season. Champions League football again, although I finished 4th (again). I have no idea how I am going to break the Real Madrid-Barca stranglehold on the La Liga title...

EDIT: Glad you like it Chelsea4Lyf. I use variations of this tactic in most of my saves. :)

Holidaying is slow :p I need my computer for other things so I am going to can it for now in December and do it overnight tonight. Then I will have a team when I wake in the morning. :)

I am not surprised to see counter-attacking turn it around, it has worked for me on numerous saves, my team just starts to look bad, so i send them out defensively and get them playing the basics and they slowly turn it around :) Though I never have true strength in the middle (Well I spose I regularly have a great DM/AM combo in my diamond formation :)

I'm gonna tweak your tactic a bit to suit my team. My team isn't good enough for a fast'ish short passing game. I lost 2-0 to Valencia which isn't too bad. I was expecting a thumping. Now I have to play them again except this time in the Spanish Cup. I lost the first leg 2-1 away.

No. Start with a temporary mananger. Holiday for a year. Add yourself as a new manager to a team that has been promoted from a non-playable division. Retire the initial manager.

Read the first post thoroughly and you'll be on your way.

Okayy so il be using Germany as my only nation let the fun begin :D

Good luck mate. But take a lesson from me. Don't get promoted to the top tier too quickly because it's almost suicide. Rancer's tactic saved me. I tweak it a little bit every game based on how my team is going. But seriously don't do it too quickly or you will get hammered in the Bundesliga and you will risk getting sacked. Anyway good luck. This is a great challenge :thup:

Breaking News VFB Lubeck has appointed Scottish Born Stewart as there new manager after being promoted from the 4th tier of German football they have giving the inexperianced manager a chance to prove him self

this is to prove they wasnt in the 3rd divison 2nd divison

AD Universidad de Oviedo - Segunda Division 2B - 2009/2010

So, at Christmas, we were relatively comfortable in 10th. The only activity in the transfer window was the removal of some non-playing unhappy people and I got in a bit of defensive and wing cover.

First match in 2010 was a respectable defeat to Navalcarnero. We then completed the double over Marino.

It then went wrong, very wrong; 7 straight defeats and only 2 points in 10 games. Some of the defeats were respectable, some were horrific (twice teams in the relegation zone without wins in 8 games beat us). This run dragged us closer and closer to the drop zone albeit not actually into it. We then somehow halted this run with a thoroughly unexpected 2-1 win at a good Vecindario side and followed that with a good draw at home to promotion chasing Leganes. However all the other teams around us had come into form at the same time so we weren't breaking away. Burgos then thrashed us before we managed a magnificent 1-0 home win over 2nd placed Atletico B (first home win and clean sheet since mid-November :o).

One point in the next 2 games and we were in big trouble, in 16th and the relegation play-off. The only positive from this is that we were only 3 points from 12th and that our next game was against said 12th placed club, Pajara Playas. We dragged another 1-0 victory out of the bag and with results going our way actually climbed to 12th. A quick look at the last day fixture list told me that there was no way all 4 teams below could overtake so we were safe. Phew. We celebrated this with another home victory (against Navalcarnero). We actually finished the season 4-3-2 which is not bad, especially considering what went on beforehand.

So in the end we finish in a boring-sounding 12th place. Boring and calm it definitely wasn't, as this shows.

I'd have accepted 12th before the start of the season, hell, I'd have accepted at Christmas. I would just have preferred not to have got involved in a totally unnecessary and nerve-wracking relegation fight.

One disconcerting stat was that one of the goals in the last match was the first goal that any of our strikers had scored since January :o. That and the home win, clean sheet thing were principally the reasons behind our struggles....

Final Squad

Transfers - considering he used to regularly play for Sevilla during their UEFA Cup period, Jesuli was most disappointing, a few of the early purchases were unnecessary but I was not to know that at the time. Otherwise, most performed well

Final Summary - making a nice profit without doing anything, not used to that!

Some of the better players were:

Best GK - Chema - actually the only gk (apart from the hoards of 16yos), played every game and was acceptable, a couple of nightmares, a couple of wonder shows, the rest efficient, perfectly respectable for this division, no active plans to replace him unless I stumble across something better

Best Defender - Eneko Herrera - turned 17 a couple of months ago, only missed 2 games, a towering rock in centre defence and our best penalty taker by a mile, he is very good, there are Segunda Division clubs sniffing around, I hope he stays and stays a fair while, he will be far too good for this division before too long

Best Midfielder - Nevado - started off fantastically, then faded and then came back well in the last few games, nice player who chipped in with a fair number of goals and assists, more of the same please

Best Winger - Jorge Espeleta - a strange one, only bought right at the end of August as I realised I needed back up on the RHS and his versatility attracted me, turned out he was quite good and made MR his own and played very well there as well, voted player of the year, that said, it is not sure he will be there next season as his age is making me hesitate in giving him a new contract

"Best" Striker - Juan Sanchez - 13 goals is not bad, the 15 hours between the 12th and 13th goals is, to be fair at least he scored, no other striker has done so in 2010 yet, he is a good enough striker for the division but I would prefer more consistency, whether he will be first choice next season remains to be seen...

I would obviously like improvement wherever I can find it but the big need is strikers and at least one DC to partner Herrera.

If I can get into the top 10 (and stay there) I will be happy...

The notables players I bought include Englishman Colin Welch, American free agent signing Karl Figueroa, former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, and Italian striker Roberto Perrone. Sold Mesut to Real because I had a midfield congestion from all the midfielders I had...

Key Players

GK - Raul Perez Rodriguez - Another consistent year

DL/DC - Javier - YP4 - Another solid year

DC - Alberto Rodriguez Nebreda - My favourite player in this save, just edging out Javier-YP4

DC - Neil Herrera - A good year from the 30 year old American.

DM/MC/DC - Krisztian Lukacsi - A solid year playing mostly at DM.

MC - Antonio Guillen - YP3 - His best season at the club

MC - Jesus - A great year. In my top 5 favourite players in this save.

ST - Matias Rodriguez - A solid year, and about the most I'll get out of him.

ST - Riccardo Villa - A disappointment in a way, as he scored 20 league goals last year, and only 6 this year. Although to be fair, he was injured quite a lot, and he did score some key goals in the Champions League.

I was willing to make a loss this season if it meant Champions League football. It was a bumpy ride as I was hovering between 3rd and 5th most of the time, although I never actually was 3rd, and always a couple points behind Sevilla.

I have the same problem every year. I can't score enough goals to compete. :(

I'm hoping Perrone and Welch will fix that. I'm very tempted to switch tactics, but I probably won't. :p

And there's no question Javier is the best player on earth. I just need to win him some La Liga trophies... :(

Looking through you're squad, I think you do need more goals from midfield. Especially Welch. He's got the ability to score plenty looking at his stats. Will probably need a change of tactic but if they chip in with 12+ every season those are the goals that make a difference imo.

Yeah, a midfielder is on my shopping list this year. My current 3 CMs are Welch, Jesus, and Guillen. I think Welch and Guillen can get me the goals I need. I rarely play Lukasci at CM (only 2 games) so I'm not worried if he scores or not. I think Arnau and Junior are expendable and I wouldn't mind getting rid of them - only if the right offer comes though. Arnau for between $12-$15 million, and Junior for $5-$7 million (and if I can find a buyer for Jesus for $25-$30 million) would allow me to offset most of the cost of getting a great CM. I might reacquire Javier Karanka...I have other targets as well though. I'll see what transfer kitty I get from the board, and work from there. :)

EDIT: and very interesting that Riccardo Villa took Spanish citizenship in hopes for playing for Spain since Italy never selects him for internationals...

I'm looking at a 28 year old Swiss CM from Newcastle, as my scout says he'll be a leading star in La Liga, but will cost me $28 million...and the Toon which means I need to sell 2 of either Arnau, Junior, or Jesus (the CM one of course, although the ST one might be out too, to give my son more playing time. ;))

I negotiated $35 million for the Swiss CM and confirmed the transfer. Jesus (MC) is sold to AC Milan for $30 million.

I'm not sure if Villa can get caps for Spain tbh... :(

EDIT EDIT!: noteable changes in the first season were Rijkaard taking over at Milan, Van Gaal at Lazio, Vialli at Juventus and Di Biasi at Napoli.

Inter won the Scudetto, on goal difference from Samp, after the games between them were both draws! Barca won the Champions League.

Nice work on your season rancer. Good luck for season 13. I'm sure you'll get 3rd this time and then the season after you can have an attempt at challenging the big 2.

Anyway my goal for my season is to come around 13th. That would be a solid debut season I reckon. The season after hopefully I can break into the UEFA Cup spots.

Oh by the way, I reckon you should expand your stadium a bit more.
