Casa Pia out of Cup

This week we saw Casa Pia drop out in the 4th round of the Portuguese Cup when they came up against Liga Sagres side Lexaios. A tough game started with them scoring, but Miguel Soares pulled one back only one minute later. This followed with each team getting another goal, and at 43 mins it was tied 2 all going towards half time. The opposition managed to score a third and thats the way it stayed right til the end of the game. While disappointed to drop out of the cup, I was delighted to see the boys taking it so close against a top tier team.

Casa Pia's Streak Continues

Casa Pia invited U. Serra for a visit, at opposite ends of the table at this point of the season meant that it was expected to be a thrashing. Struggling to 0-0 at half time the boys came in a little dejected as they had dominated the game completely before this point. As they went back out, Eduardo managed to make it 1-0 after 60mins, and then at 80 mins a corner deflected off a defender and into the net to make it 2-0. A great game by the boys saw them climb to the top of the table as Pinvalhense lost to O. Bairro. 3 points clear after 12, unbeaten in 11, and looking like league leaders should Casa Pia are delighting their manager.

Ok my season is complete but I have work in an hour so the report won't go up til late tonight. The good news - we finished strongly and made the CL again \o/

Even better is that Roma may not have qualified for the CL. They finished 5th but are playing in the CL final - if they win it do they qualify? Or not? I can't recall the rules since Liverpool made it through years ago from being the holders. Anyway you'll all find out later this evening

Casa Pia takes on Mafra

Game 13 for the season saw Casa Pia travelling to Mafra, the relegation candidates didn't stand a chance as Casa Pia walked all over them, with 2nd and 3rd in the league both only managing a draw it saw Casa Pia move out to a 5 point lead over 2nd and showing themselves to be true title contenders. 22 goals scored, 6 conceded and not having lost in 12 games now.

Ok so Roma won the CL (again ) on penalties over my Uefa Cup final opponents of last year, Chelsea. I guess I have to play the waiting game to find out if Roma make it back into the CL...

In other news a rich foreign tycoon is looking at taking over AC Milan this summer. Just what we need, lets get the league a little more competitive

congrats on your CL qualification iacovone... can't keep pesky Roma down though. Talking of Roma, i played the first leg last night... was an interesting game!!

rancer - congrats on great season. Getting close to breaking the Real-Barca dominance. good luck!

Hi Guys.

So, I have never actually taken part in any of the challenges on here, and so I thought its about time to give it a shot. I have actually already done ok in this challenge without even knowing (taken Clube Oriental de Lisboa to the top pretty much in Portugal :D), but I want to start it for real.

So, i've decided to take myself to Spain.

2009/10 Season - C.D. Mirandes (Start of Season 1)

Initial Profile

Media Prediction: 18th

So here goes. Wish me luck!

(Just for future reference - My actual managers name is 'Tom S!m!i!t!h'. Thats just in case I get a son, so its easier to identify. I've nicknamed my manager to appear as 'Tom Smith'.)

Tom - love the naming technique :) Hopefully it works and good luck to you.

Rancer - You need to break the title domination, or you will never complete the challenge :p

Iacovone - Damn Roma are just never going to give up...I would think they will be in under the new rulings. (Assuming it is in FM)

I haven't played any games today, so still at 5pts up, and no the top 6 go into the Promotion Playoffs (10 rounds), then the top team from 2DA, 2DB, 2DC & 2DD Promotion stages go into Semi-finals and the winners of those two games go up...

Yeah its a pain in the butt.

The Portugese promotion system at lower levels is a very frustrating one.

The Portugese promotion system at lower levels is a very frustrating one.

It just seems completely too hard to get out of the bottom, it took me 4 seasons with AD Fafe in my first FM09 game, and yet it only took 2 seasons to escape Liga Vitalis and then 4 seasons to get a top 4 finish in Liga Sagres.

Thats quite similar to how I did during my time at Clube Oriental de Lisboa. It took me four attempts to get out of the bottom league. I won the first part of the league twice, but failed to go up both of those times, and then I was straight up from Liga Vitalis. Got lucky though I think :D. I did struggle in Liga Sagres for a while though. Always somewhere near the bottom (never relegated though). I have enjoyed it in Portugal though. Good fun.

I have enjoyed it in Portugal though. Good fun.

I must say last year I did enjoy Italy, but I have had a lot more fun in the Portuguese leagues, it seems to be more competitive, which is something I like, it is always interesting to play teams from all over a different nation, and the Portuguese leagues have a great set-up too :) I actually like the idea of a separate promotion stage, but I think the winner of each promotion stage should go up, so 4 teams get promoted.

Portugal is my home away from home :)

And Real replaced Casillas with 36 year old Akinfeev. Was thinking Real would try one of their own goalkeepers but I guess not. :(

Hope Casillas can bring his winning formula with Real Madrid to Real Oviedo. :D

Thanks Des, iacovone, and rlipscombe. Think it'll take a few years to even challenge for top spot...

And I just signed Iker Casillas as a goalkeeper coach. :D

i've just signed Raul as a coach!! hoping he'll rub off on Gorro, Dixon et al...

Oriental invasion stopped at Border

Casa Pia faced off against Oriental this weekend, the only team in the division to have previously beaten us. Prior to the match their manager was out in force telling us "I will delight in destroying your title chances", Tiny responded by telling him it would be great to beat Oriental. The game came and went with Casa Pia holding out the opposition to take a 1-0 victory. This takes the team to a 13 game unbeaten streak, keeps the 5 point lead, and extends it out to 10 points over 7th with 8 games remaining.

Happy with the progress and now selling players all off to try and get on top of the wage budget and to be able to make some new purchases.

Oh lol, didn't know you were first. :o

The Promotion Phase in Portugal in the lower leagues sounds more confusing than the Spanish Second Division playoffs. =S

And people say MLS Playoffs are hard to understand. :p:D

Round 15

Casa Pia 2:1 Odivelas
       Farense 5:0 Electrico P.Sor
  O. Bairro 2:1 Fut. Benfica
OD Acores 0:1 Louletano
Pinhalnovense 6:1 Oriental
U.Serra 1:1 Mafra

With those being the results for the week, Odivelas who were third were disappointed to go down against Casa Pia, who now have 14 games unbeaten in a row, 4 wins in a row, though they became the first team in 360 mins to beat Frietas. So after a huge round from some teams it has left the table looking as follows.

Pos Team W D L GF GA Pts
1st Casa Pia 10 4 1 25 7 34
2nd Pinhalnovense 8 5 2 27 8 29
3rd Farense 7 5 3 17 13 26
4th Odivelas 7 4 4 27 17 25
5th Louletano 7 4 4 19 16 25
6th Fut. Benfica 7 2 6 19 15 23
7th OD Acores 7 2 6 27 15 23
8th O. Bairro 7 2 6 22 24 23
9th Electrico PS 3 5 7 6 21 14
10th Oriental 3 2 10 15 27 11
11th Mafra 2 4 9 9 25 10
12th U. Serra 1 3 11 7 32 6

And that means that at the end of 2009 Casa Pia will go into the new year as league leaders. an 5 point gap with only 7 games to go is a great chance to win, and to be 11 points clear of the relegation playoffs is good as well.

Real Oviedo - Liga BBVA - Pre-Season 2015-16

Just a brief summary of pre-season. Major tranfer news was the boards decision to sell Ramiro Palacios to Sevilla for £10.25m. Disappointed with the fee but it's an improvement on the £550k it cost to buy him. And it meant i had the money to buy this guy - Eugeny Serov. The other first-team signing was Bassirou Dembele who will battle for a first team place. the other signings were players for the future.

Transfers

And so to the Champions League 3rd Qualifying Round:

Real Oviedo 3 - 0 Roma

Roma 3 - 1 Real Oviedo

And so we scraped though to the group stage!! :D it was looking tight for a while but Gorrotxategi's second half header ensured our progress. So whose our group??

FC Bayern

Rangers

Real Oviedo

CSKA Sofia

Honestly, i feel we can make at least the Europa League, and if we can get a win against Rangers, we might make the knockout rounds.....

EDIT: - First two league games...

Zaragoza 1 - 4 Real Oviedo (Dixon 3, Gorrotxategi)

Getafe 0 - 2 Real Oviedo (Dixon 2)

Top of the league.....

international news - 29 players have been called up for internationals :D Including 6 Spanish U19s, 11 Spanish U21s and a first call-up to the full squad for Joaquin....

now i'm sure some of you are the same, but this is a massive jump for me from the fifteen or so i normally get.....

Ivan Agustin (62)
Pablo Infante (89)

Not a terrible pre-season. Would have been happier with a result against Plasencia, and should've maybe won against Huarte. But, not too bad.

Transfers

In/Out Overview

In

Raul - GK

The weakest area of my squad when I took over was GK, and so I immediately looked for a new first-choice keeper. Raul fit the bill, and was available on a free. Perfect.

Nono - AML

The AML position had was another area which was weak, and I had little cover. Another free purchase.

Hector - DM,MC

Hector was a player whom I scouted at a trial day. My scouts believe him to have bags of potential, and at 17 he is already playing at a similar level to my more senior CMs.

Out

Diego - GK

He was surplus to my requirements, and a couple of teams showed some interest. He wasn't ever going to get a game, and so I took the opportunity to lighten the wage load.

Future Prospects

Borja Alonso - DRL

Alonso was sat in my u19s when I took over. He looks really promoising, and is going to be a key member of my team over the next season. At just 16, I believe he will have a great future ahead of him.

Fernando - AMLC

Fernando doesn't have the raw talent of Alonso, but he will feature in my squad as he plays at AML and cover for that position is hardly existent.

As I said earlier,i'm very happy with the start i've made. My current tactic is seeing a lot of goals come from my midfield. Of the 13 league goals we have scored, 9 of them have come from midfield. I'm not complaining though :D

Savona End of Season 17 Update (2025/26)

Serie A:

Predicted Finish: 2nd

Actual Finish: 4th|Graph

Italian Cup: Quarters (Lost to Juve)

Champions League: Quarters (Lost to Milan)

End of Season Notes:

A hard season to summarize really. We ended well which gives me plenty of hope for next season, this in spite of a rough patch around the middle of the season. The good news? We finished 4th again, CL again . The bad news? As Roma won the CL but came 5th they get the 4th Italian spot in the CL. That means its Uefa Cup again for us . At least it gives us another chance to really focus on a league challenge next season.

This CL campaign just gone showed promise but ultimately ended in the hands of the domestically dominant AC Milan 6-3 on aggregate. We deserved more in the away leg and the final scoreline is definitely flattering for them.

Eventual league winners Milan always looked strong and despite Napoli pushing them all the way, the Scudetto's destination was never in doubt this year. At the other end of the table we say farewell to a number of well known sides - Udinese, Sampdoria and Bari who end a 14 year stay in the top flight. Fiorentina immediately bounced back to Serie A, bringing Perugia and Atalanta with them. The story of the season was little Mantova finishing 7th and proving very stubborn opponents all season long.

Our top goalscorer was Ricki Kumar who appears to have finally found his feet in Italy. He formed a good partnership with Riccardo Rotunno who set a new assists record for the club. He also finished off 2nd in CL Top Goalscorer.

Notable Players:

Roberto Pecoraro - The best RB in the world currently. Had a monumentally good year, almost ever-present. He was also our sole representative in the CL Dream Team this year. He was nominated 3rd in Serie A Defender of the Yearand to top it all off the fans rewarded him with the Fans Player of the Year award.

Tommaso Cilona - First half of the season was hampered by injury but came through it eventually and was (as always) key for us. Hoping he stays fit all year next season because he will push us up the table.

Davide Maggio - Forgotten man of the RM position came back into the side this year due to a whole host of injury problems in the squad. Came back with a bang, very impressive and will now start over Blixt, until he recovers his form.

Giuseppe Quinto - Electric, Messi-like LM who will now get maximum number of games he can since the departure of Riccardo Raffa to Roma. Creates and scores goals - often crucial ones too.

Serie A Team of the Year - Places for Pecoraro, Emmanuele Moroni and Quinto.

Next Season:

My target for this year is to mount a serious title challenge. We don't want 4th again, lets get in the top 2/3 at the minimum. The Uefa Cup will be secondary on our priorities but as we've won it before, not essential. I'll use the early stages to give some fringe players games and as/if/when we progress to the latter stages start to take it even more seriously.

Just a quick further update of pre season - I didn't sign a single player all summer, choosing to stick with this bunch, confident that following a year of gelling and maturing they can get even better :D.

A lot of young reserves and U19s were released as were a couple of fringe players out of contract. No-one sold for any money.

We qualified for the Uefa Cup group stages by beating Anorthosis over 2 legs. Our group is Heerenveen, Marseille and Brondby. Not too bad and should see us progress to the knockouts :).

We won it 5 years ago IIRC! Followed it up with the worst defence of a league title EVER by coming 8th/9th though

Last 3 years we've come 4th - its getting a little boring now :D

Cilona is the club captain by the way, a real legend, signed at 17 for just 200k!!

Was your job under threat at that point then? Cilona was a definite bargain. Great spot iacovone. Was he a scout recommendation? If he was then I suggest you give that scout a raise.

Sergio Gamiz (67)

Fuenlabrada 1 - 0 Mirandes

Jose Luis Prieto (44)

Two wins, and two losses. A decent month. The match away at Huesca was always going to be difficult, and a 2-1 defeat is a good showing by my team.

So a fall from second to fifth this month, but a solid win against Universidad was the highlight. A win in my next game will keepthe gap at just 2 points from the top, although a loss and that gap is set to widen. This could possibly be a crucial month.

still a decent month there Tom - if you can just tighten up at the back a little you may well have a good season...

Yeah, i've been tinkering with my defensive tactics, but I keep conceeding one or two sloppy goals per game. Haven't kept a clean sheet for the last 6 games which is a little frustrating, but i'm sure that winning combination will come in time.
