JoseRR's FM09 Big Euro Nation Challenge!

Recommended Posts

Brilliant, after losing 3-2 at home in my first game of November (I was leading 2-1 until 70 minutes :(), I changed my tactic from

----FC--ST----

ML-MC--MC-MR

DL-DC---DC-DR

to

---ST--ST----

-----AM------

---MC--MC---

-----DM------

DL-DC--DC-DR

Next result was a 1-0 away win :) Hope this continues.

This will be my last game of the night though, training tired me out, sleepy at only 9:20. Plus I got kicked off the only computer that can run FM

Currently 8th after 11 games.

talk about a tough run of fixtures... apart from the two CL games, we've got Barcelona, At Madrid and Real Madrid to play in 5 fixtures... :( This period will decide whether we are true title challengers or not...

Just lost at Nou Camp 3-1.... first league defeat in nineteen games.....

Just made up for it by beating 2nd placed At Madrid 3-0 at home to extend our lead again. big win that.

Good job you avoided 'multiple posting'!!

On a serious note, great result in Germany . You're still going strong...rlipscombe to spectacularly win both the league and CL in one season - thus completing the challenge and achieving naming rights for next years challenge....\o/

Casale Mid Season Report

League

We haven't started the greatest this year, only picking up 18 points in 17 games. The table itself is fairly close, while i'm only 5 points from last place, i'm also only 10 away from promtion playoffs. Maybe slightly optimistic on my part there :D All in all, I need to recruit heavily. I've got some talanted young players coming in in the next transfer window, and i'm gonna try and loan some players that I loaned on my first attempt.

If worst comes to worst, and I get relegated, i'll keep going in this save, taking over a newly promoted club at the season restart. In fact, Savona haven't been promoted yet on my save...

By the way, Venezia's only game that they haven't won was against us in a 1-1 draw :D That's something good in my season I suppose.

ha ha. thought you might like that... in my defence i wanted to quickly post it before i went to bed and couldn't be bothered faffing around editing....

to complete the challenge would be amazing but still so far to go. In the CL quarter finals i think the other teams are Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Chelsea and Arsenal so no easy ties there!!

As for the league, there is still 13 games to go and a lot can happen in that time. Yes, i'm exceeding all expectations BIG TIME but it only takes a few injuries to key players and the whells can quickly come off. It's close behind me down to 5th or 6th so could fall far quickly.

Just want to get my season completed!!

Damn Iacovone seeing it first, I would've commented on that one as well.

As for the Champions League, all I really have to say is Ouch, but what do you expect, the Champions league Quarter Finals should be the best 8 teams in the world. So we have 3 Spanish teams, 3 Italians and 2 English. Only change in 20 years is that there are only 2 English teams.

Go Rlipscombe, the Completion of the challenge is on.

Hey everyone, its been a while

I'm tempted to get this challenge started again, now that I may have a bit more free time.

I lost alot of motivation to play as Castel San Pietro because of the co-ownership bug in Italy. It kind of got in the way of how I wanted to play the game:

- Gradually build up a bank balance without having to sell my stars.

- Focus on building a good young squad.

Etc..

But with all the big clubs paying stupid amounts of millions for my prospects, my board accepting the bids, or my players becoming unhappy because of me rejecting them, it became a bit of a joke.

At one point I recieved a bid of £13m, twice my balance, for 50% of a player, that would be staying at my club, it just didn't make sense.

Anyway, lets get away from the ranting :D

I think i'll holiday in Spain, and see where that takes me..

I doubt it'll be on the Oviedo bandwagon, I like to be original..

Onto catching up with the thread:

Iacovone, a good last season, some of your players look absolutely fantastic. My guess is you're not too far away from having a real good go at winning the CL and completing this.

Rlipscombe, great season so far, maybe this is the year, best of luck.

Des, did I read that Fafe may be back, or did I imagine/dream that?

Hopefully this'll re-kindle some of my love for FM.

good luck in Spain Gaz - hope you recapture your love for the game.

The draw has been made... we'll play AC MILAN. away first leg again. they have a squad full of stars and beat Monaco to face Los Carbayones. This challenge steps up a little.....

EDIT: For those interested in the Real Madrid result... Real Oviedo 4 - 1 Real Madrid. :D

C.D. Mirandes Christmas Update - 2010/11 - Season 2

9th|Graph

The first game of the competitive season was against fellow Second Division 2B outfit Palencia at home. We were promptly dispatched in a 2-1 defeat which is flattering for us. A terrible performance.

The league season, on the other hand, started off brilliantly. After going 4-0-0 (and most notably a vitory against both Huesca and Lanzarote) in the first four games, we were the last team to lose the '100 % start'. Two games, and two defeats, later we had slumped from 1st to 5th in the space of 4 days. We never found form for the next 6 games and we were winning comfortably and then losing the next week.

Mid-Novemeber saw the start of the Federation Cup, and we were drawn against non-league team Pena Sport away. I was happy with that tie. However, we only just scraped a draw meaning there was to be a replay in a week. The replay saw my team put in a solid performance and come away 2-0 victors.

The draw against Pena Sport led to a 5 game unbeaten run, and I thought we had finally found some good, consistent form. Alcoron promptly ended our unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over us. Another away defeat felt far too familiar, and I feared the worst.

Our next fixture was the next round (1st round) of the Federation Cup. We had been handed a very tough tie against recently relegated Eibar at home. We managed to hold them to a 0-0 draw, and won ourselves a replay in a weeks time. This wasn't a game I was looking forward to, and I didn't expect to come away with anything. We didn't. Another 2-0 away loss saw us dumped out of the Federation cup.

Four league games without a win saw us reach our lowest position since I took charge at the cup. We sat in 10th and it was a long way to the top. A great 4-2 win against Portugalete saw us move up to 9th, and that is where we find ourselves at the end of the year.

I really do feel as if any promotion (be it through the playoffs or, ahem, champions) hope is gone, and i'm more focusing on staying up. It might sound a little dramatic but we're a lot closer to drop than the top. My team really does need working on for next season now, and my thoughts are now focused on gaining promotion over a longer period of time than I initially thought.

Competition Status:

League: Currently 9th

Federation Cup: Lost in 1st Round (v Eibar)

Spanish Cup: Lost in 1st Round (v Palencia)

Rlipscombe, brilliant stuff in the CL, and also in the league. 3-0 victory over At. Madrid, and then a huge 4-1 win over Real Madrid. Fantastic.

d-machine, the table is really close. Its nowhere near over yet, and i'm sure you'll climb the table once you get those players in.

I am really enjoying this challenge, and this thread is great. :D I feel full of praise.

EDIT: My English regen striker, Dave Watts, has just been called up to the England u19 squad.

Welcome back and good luck, yes you did see that for real. I am currently playing as the Softies in Wallace vs Roberts, but once I finish that I am doing a season of Fafe, then finishing my Old world then completing this challenge. Fafe are coming back.

d-machine, the table is really close. Its nowhere near over yet, and i'm sure you'll climb the table once you get those players in.

Well, we've picked up 10 points in our last 5 games, including a 2-0 thrashing over top placed Venezia, who are tearing up the league with 61 points in 23 games, 2nd place only has 45 points

Our players are starting to hit form at the right time, and with 11 games to go, and only 9 points off promotion playoff spots, promotion might still be on the cards ;)

Also, I forgot to say this last time, but that is a wonderful season your having rlipscombe

-----------------------------------------

Won my next game 4-3 against Bassano, currently 11th with 10 games left.

I've really lacked a quality striker this season, my top goalscorer is my striker Mariano Cordaro with 5 goals in 21 games. That is just not acceptable for a striker. Not even my loanee strikers are performing! Cisse from Sampdoria has 3, and Koutanon from Atalanta has 2! Definellty gonna be the first place I strengthen next season.

-----------------------------------------

And as had been the regular way of our season, our good form has turned to bad form in a couple of matches. We won a game 4-0, our next 2 games we lost 1-0 then 4-0 :(

-----------------------------------------

We've got 3 matches to go, and we won't be going anywhere this season, currently locked into a mid table finish. 9 points ahead of relegation playoffs, not sure how many behind promotion playoffs, just know I can't make it.

Preparations for next season are already underway; i've brought in a 19 year old german striker who seems to have good potential, and a dutch midfielder who is even better then Dani Rado.

I guess one of the good things about this challenge is that in most nations (not sure about all) you can scout multiple nations from the start. Belgium so proving to be a gold mine. Each time my scout brings back 2 or 3 six star players.

\o/ the threat of me completing is it???

thanks tom & d-machine. i still can't believe how well season is going. 10 games left in league. the wins over the Madrid teams were massive for us. good to hear you're enjoying the thread tom - for me it's got the best atmosphere of the main challenges... d-machine, unlucky on the promotion push but your form bodes well for next season....

But no, in all seriousness, though I am enjoying my Harlow save, I really am just addicted to Savona. I miss them when I play another file :o

Sort of like me. I love my save here with Casale so much, but when I play it I'm always thinking "I really should finish another season with Niki Volou"

At the moment, I resisting the temptation (probably because whenever I load it up, I see Real Madrid staring at me in my CL group)

That isn't a bad group. How doe you think you will fair against Real Madrid? Best of luck iacovone.

Its gone from bad to worse in my game. Its mid-february and we've plummeted to 15th. Lost all the last 4 games, and now just been told my first choice keeper is out for 3 months (rest of the season) with a hip injury and has to go see a specialist. Relegation is staring me in the face now. Its going to be a tense finish to the season. 12 games to go to stop the rot.

Erm hard to say tom. They're strong but I think we're better, I'll be looking to top the group with the players I have. Feel like we've underachieved a little these last few years. But hopefully with my new tactic in place, we'll go in all guns blazing!!

Good luck avoiding relegation!! I got relegated from my first season in the top flight - really hurt!!

I have to say, my first season in the top league was tough, but I managed to get myself up above relegation early on and then it was just a matter of beating each of the 4 or so teams below me. And then I have since moved up about one or two positions a season. Its about slow and steady I believe.

Spot on Des, marathon not a sprint - here's looking at you rlipscombe :p

In Savona news - we had a disappointing draw at home to Real Madrid 1-1 in our first CL game. Followed it up with a 2-1 away win at Roda though so we're in a good position. In the league we are 3rd currently with just 1 loss so far (down entirely to me and a tactical blunder!). We smashed last years champs AC Milan 4-1 at home for the result of the season though :D

Juve leading the way with 7 wins from 7 - anyone recall me claiming what a job their manager was doing. I've watched them build a great side for the last 3 years, now its peaking

Is it just me that has those games where it seems as if your starting 11 have just walked off the pitch!? 4-0 down to Napoli after 20 mins . Needless to say we lost - 5-2. But it really winds me up, there is never that much of a gulf in class to warrant a 4 goal deficit after just a quarter of the game .

Good result away at Milan - the away goal will be crucial ;)

Qualified from our CL group after 4 games. 3 wins and that draw against R.Madrid. Now just a case of securing top spot.

In the league we're the highest scorers in the league but also conceding a lot too. New Albanian 20 year old GK might have something to do with that but he has great potential and there's only one way to realise that - games!!

EDIT: Won 2-0 at the Bernabeu to secure top spot :)

EDIT 2: Jan window rolling round and the media circus is back in town. This time we have Secco, Maggio, Kumar and Quinto being targeted by the big names :(. Looks like 1 of them will be leaving (prob Maggio) but the others I just can't sell. Kumar's been looking for a new challenge for about a year and a half now :thdn:

cheers guys. i was so gutted last night. no real controversy other than Pepe was sent off for Milan on 69 mins. threw everything at it but there keeper was immense. Was gutted as Dixon got injured for 2 weeks weekend before which ruled him out of clubs biggest ever game to date. I think in all honesty that made the difference. :)

C.D. Mirandes End of Season 2 Update (2010/11)

Spanish Second Division B2:

Predicted Finish: 15th

Actual Finish: 15th|Graph

A good start to the season followed up by some poor form leading up to Christmas saw us in mid-table 9th.

January didn't start off well. We managed to lose two on the trot, and on the 16th we were set for a visit from Huesca. I was just looking for a draw from my team, but we ended up thrashing them 5-1. This wasn;t the start of anything as we lost the next five games on the bounce. This saw us drop to 16th in the league after 25 games, and we occupied the relegation playoff spot. This was a dire situation, and it needed to be fixed.

Our next fixture was luckily against a poor Real Sociedad "B" side who were in 19th at home. Despite our porr form running into the match, we came away with Mirandes' biggest ever win of 6-0. Yet again a big win didn't get us on a roll, and we only managed to claim two of the twelve points available against teams in a similar situation to us. The last 6 games had arrived and we along with 4 or 5 other teams were scrapping to stay up. Of the six remaining fixtures, three of them were against teams around us and they were games we had to get something from.

The run in began against bottom of the league side Zalla. I would not accept anything less than three points from this game and the team delivered in a 3-1 win. We lost the next game, and up next was playoff hopefuls Alcoron at home. This wasn't a game I expected anything from, but my team showed some real spirit and we managed to win 4-2. This eased the pressure a little for the next game, and meant that a draw would pretty much guarantee us not going down. We travelled to 17th Vecindario looking for a draw. We failed. A miserable loss of 3-0 was all we could muster. This meant Vecindario leap-frogged over us and we were once again staring at a possible relegation playoff. Two draws in the last two games (and a couple of helpful results regarding the other teams) saw us finish just two points above the relegation playoff spot, and we ended the season in 15th.

Ultimately what had started out as a possibly great season ended with a real scrap for survival, and to have any chance of not repeating this again, the squad must be strengthened somewhat. My tactic which was successful last season seemed to get ripped to shreads by the opposition teams. That too needs a re-think.

Next Seasons Aims:

- The squad needs to be strengthened. I've already planned the signings of a couple of players on frees which look as though they will bring some depth to the squad. I think i'll be looking towards a senior DC to command the defence. Whomever it is will only be brought in on a short-term contract.

- A safe mid-table finish this season, with the plan to make the playoffs the season after.

- To create a platform to build upon for the season after next.

This Seasons Key Players:

Xabier Eizagirre - Yet again the left winger has been our star man. He consitently puts in class performances for the team and he can always be relied upon.

Borja Alonso - Another who featured in this section last season. He, like Eizagirre, is always consitent. He is showing real promise at this level and has been attracting the attention of clubs in the league above.

Dave Watts - Debut season for the young Englishman. Despite his not so great average rating, he has been my best striker this season. He has been scoring a goal every two games which is impressive when goals have been quite hard to come by.

Youth Products:

Borja Alonso - DRL

Left Foot: Weak

Right Foot: Very Strong

Good job staying up Tom . Lets hope you progress next year. Nice update too

Thanks. I've made some major changes this year to the squad. I feel i've brought in some quality players, and got rid of the riff-raff. Although my only concern is them gelling. I've got a busy pre-season set up to try and prepare them as much as I can for the season.

I plan on putting screenshots of the 5 World Team of the Year reps in my next end of season report. If I remember that is ;)

Please do. I have a real interest in regens, and I love following those who I 'deal' with (hence the tables in the update showing some season stats). I also enjoy seeing the best in the world, and looking at how good they can get, although it often fills me with a sense of jealousy.

Oh no :(. How's the league table looking?

3 points ahead of Barcelona with a slight goal difference advantage. Goals have dried up for Gorrotxategi so it's all on Dixons shoulders at the moment... Just had back to back draws.

Ok so the World Team of the Year reps:

Maurizio Secco - Bought from Lazio at 17 for £3m. Described as a world class CB and had been the perfect pro until this year when he was unsettled by transfer speculation. Contributes a decent number of goals too.

Roberto Pecoraro - Signed for a whopping £24m from Siena at 22. Now a world class full back and seen as the best defender in world football at the moment. Never complained or looked for a move in his 5 years here.

Tommaso Cilona - Signed for just £200k in 2017 from Cagliari. My favourite player of all time in FM. Anchors the midfield brilliantly and weighs in with his fair share of goals. Past winner of World Footballer of the Year. Surprisingly has just 11 caps for Italy but suits me fine if it prolongs his club career. This is his 10th year at the club.

Alexandru Ceausu - Signed this summer for £29m after making his name at the great Inter side of 2023. Has been in great form since signing but does have a lot of competition in CM so won't play every game.

Fabio Bertolucci - Signed from Inter for £31m. Huge fee but has justified that in his variety of roles at us. First season was disappointing but since then has flourished and looks our most creative player. Has just declared that he wants a new challenge :(

So anyway that's the group of current Savona stars :)
