Northernpilgrim
Unbeaten in February, but it should have been even better, as we missed not one, but two penalties, in the draw with Sheff Utd which means we're now second, in the promotion places only on goal difference
kevhamster
Good stuff so far. Sounds like you have a similar record with penalties as my Middlesbrough team!
Northernpilgrim
Just now, kevhamster said: Good stuff so far. Sounds like you have a similar record with penalties as my Middlesbrough team! Up to this month it's not been too bad, but we've missed three in a row now, and it's getting costly
Northernpilgrim
We were unbeaten, and one match from perfection in March. We played the last half hour against Bristol City with 10 men ending the month 4 points clear, but having played 2 games more and speculation that my time in Lancashire might be nearly up
Northernpilgrim
In early April, Burnley have finally decided to offer a contract. I've said no, but this might change if no suitable jobs come up
Northernpilgrim
I think this qualifies as suitable
Northernpilgrim
But they said no
Northernpilgrim
12 points from a possible 15 in April and that was enough to go up as Champions with a game to spare
Northernpilgrim
The last day should have been so much more comfortable, as we contrived to nearly throw away a game we were winning 5-1 with 10 minutes left but we held on, and win the league by 9 points

Northernpilgrim
I don't expect to get the job, but this came up before the end of May, and I have got an interview

Northernpilgrim
And in early June, they got back to me. I'm off to Tyneside
Northernpilgrim
So, I'm the new boss of Newcastle. Massive club, passionate fanbase, ambitious new owner, terrible season this year, but the potential to build something over several seasons. This will not be a short term project, unless I get sacked. I intend to get them into at least the Europa League before my next move, and ideally win a trophy and I've got a decent enough (but not by any means massive) transfer budget for my first transfer window
Pattric_b
Really enjoying this career. I was in he same boat as you. Not really passionate about any of my saves so started my final save about a month ago and started very similar to how you did. Hopefully i get interviews like you soon enough! I'm enjoying this one myself, it's been good to have some successes after my last couple of careers bombed. Here's hoping for a few seasons of steady improvement at Newcastle, hopefully leading to a job at a European superpower.
Northernpilgrim
I arranged an epic preseason schedule as I was planning several signings, and the squad certainly responded

Northernpilgrim
A reasonable start to the season, which would have been a very good one if we hadn't been hammered by my old club and we end the first month in the top half, which is where we want to be this season
Northernpilgrim
We didn't win a league game in September, but didn't lose one either. There was also a cup win and we remain in mid table
Northernpilgrim
Three games in October, three wins and we're on the fringes of the European places
Northernpilgrim
There were only three league games in November, and only one win. 20 days without a competitive game meant I took the team on tour to Argentina and we're eighth in the table, not far off the Europa League places
Northernpilgrim
December was definitely not good enough but we remain inside the top half heading into the new year (just)
Northernpilgrim
January, on paper, looks just as bad, but we had a horrendously tough run of games, and we have knocked a couple of the big clubs out of the FA Cup. It would have looked much better if we had held on to the 2-1 lead against Burnley and 2-0 lead against Watford. and we have dropped into the bottom half as a result It's not set to get any easier though, as a staggering 6 of our next 7 matches are away from home
Northernpilgrim
One in, one out in the January window and I'm hoping to sign Tiago permanently in the summer
Northernpilgrim
February was not too bad, although we threw away the lead against Leicester and ended up losing but a top half finish is still very much a possibility
Northernpilgrim
March was my first perfect month as Newcastle manager and we now sit comfortably top half, and with an FA Cup Semi Final up next

Northernpilgrim
Not a great April but we're 1 point away from guaranteeing 8th place. The bad news is our last game is Arsenal
Pattric_b
Good first season either way. If you can find a way to sort out the consistency issues you will definitely qualify for Europe next season. Northernpilgrim
And I have been busy in the transfer market too, signing six players Which leaves my squad looking like this
Northernpilgrim
The season starts early this time, kicking off in July. Ahead of kickoff, if you'd offered me 7 points out of 9, I'd have taken it, but after the first game of the season, it feels like an anticlimax Can we end the season right there? If we could, we'd be headed to the Champions League
Northernpilgrim
August would have looked alright if we had beaten Burnley as those three dropped points see us fall out of the Champions League places
Northernpilgrim
Not a great September, but there were only three games and the defeat to Liverpool drops us out of the European places
Northernpilgrim
We had a good start to a crazy October, had a nightmare run of results, and finished the month with a win. Due to the mid season break for the World Cup, we don't have another league match until New Year's Eve and we go into the break in a Europa League spot, and hoping that any of our players picked for the World Cup come back fit. Northernpilgrim
I've arranged a bunch of friendlies to keep the players not at the World Cup in shape and interested. Here are the November results
Northernpilgrim
The friendlies continued in December, and the New Year's Eve Premier League game was postponed because of the FA Cup
Northernpilgrim
One game from perfection in January and the race for a European place is hotting up. We just have to hope that defeat at West Ham isn't costly
