Our next game was one we should win easily, against Luxembourg at Wembley

228632927_EngvLux2041.thumb.PNG.ec6c5d3d2a0eb0776a2ce49caea044e6.PNG

and an easy win was what we got. Two players got hat-tricks, and six players scored in a rout

1915743046_EngvLux2041res.thumb.PNG.117213f7a52fdf8a9a1d11d85209eb33.PNG

but despite that win, we're still second, behind Wales, but the gap is only 1 point, and we still have a game in hand

We had a nightmare start to October, losing the first four games, before ending the month with an impressive win

1930788565_Oct2041.thumb.PNG.6675a39182914daeaa60466aadb32541.PNG

but it could have been much better as we led Swansea 2-0

217109154_Swanseaa2041.thumb.PNG.bc4e8a343650dd0da46ba29913663ece.PNG

were 2-0 up against Sunderland

115376283_Sunderlandh2041.thumb.PNG.08e42eae219f77a06a45d0507702b046.PNG

and led Sheffield United with 3 minutes left

1743848694_SheffUtdh2041.thumb.PNG.c82e058b14cf76ea9bf562fbdf746d9f.PNG

and that horrible run has left us uncomfortably close to the bottom three

Here are the teams for the decider against Wales. Jamie Lovegrove has been promoted from the U21s and wins his first cap after Stewart Kay-Vernon was ruled out by injury

We ended up winning comfortably

1908707141_EngvWal2041res.thumb.PNG.f59b3a17899a4d738cf1c83e66b83360.PNG

and that means we qualify automatically as group winners

December started with a defeat, but we ended it on a 4 match unbeaten run

1267010773_Dec2041.thumb.PNG.ec7768db84aa3f60322696a9a0fea6b9.PNG

and we really shouldn't have lost to Notts County, as we led until the 89th minute

255563917_NottsvArgyle2041.thumb.PNG.ddabe5d45ec08fa038d843cc42d36910.PNG

but the league table now looks a lot better, as we occupy what would represent our best league finish since 2008, when we finished 10th in the Championship. The last time we registered a better finish than that was 1987 (7th)

On New Year's Eve, I received (and signed) a contract extension offer from Argyle. My previous wage was £2,400 per week

1230473304_Argylecontract2041.thumb.PNG.ea8b1f7b9a81fd3e0186f9f490bd2aac.PNG

The plan now has to be to get Argyle to the Premier League before the end of my new contract.

My Argyle side went through March unbeaten, so it's now more than 2 months, and 10 games unbeaten since we last tasted defeat

747003844_Mar2042.thumb.PNG.d5de67317588a6a4a7bc8f21c108d8a2.PNG

Which leaves us in the playoffs with 6 games to go, 5 points ahead of QPR who are the other side of the dotted line, and astonishingly, just 6 points behind Fulham in 2nd. We couldn't, could we?

If we don't make the playoffs, the first two games in April will be a large part of the reason why, although I can understand losing away at Bournemouth

34846271_Apr2042.thumb.PNG.b3aac7e00a66fa4a19ff54df006b0cd0.PNG

But remarkably, despite winning only 2 of the last five games, the playoff scrap will go to the last day

808056246_Apr2042table.thumb.PNG.594942b54094db5e36f5da152daea3bf.PNG

and these are the final day fixtures. QPR entertain a Leeds side with nothing but pride to play for, and we entertain a Charlton side who secured safety with a win last time out. Hopefully they'll be on the beach already, and we get a favour from Leeds.

On to the Championship awards, beginning with Player of the Year, our own Archie Gordon

Our top scorer Warren Butler came third in the Golden Boot

and that earned him the Young Player of the Year award

Archie Gordon was our only representative in the Team of the Year

Nice progress in the league!

Thanks BillHoudini24. The season preview had us down to finish 4th from bottom, so I was certainly not expecting to come flying out of the traps, and whilst I'm optimistic of a good season, I would bite your hand off for a top 6 finish at the moment. If we're in a similar position to this after the January window, then we can start to think bigger, but not before that. I've had too many seasons on FM (and CM before it) that have gone pear shaped after a decent start.

I think that if you have the finances available to get 1-2 important players in January, maybe you can push through and get promoted. I managed to get promoted to the Prem in my second season in the Championship and I had to face Everton, Sunderland, Villa and Watford led by freaking M'bappe! A good run without crashing hard can be really beneficial after January.

An unbeaten October, including a memorable League cup win over Premier League Blackburn Rovers

520992545_Oct2042.thumb.PNG.cdc9245c33d4ab16545f715463958d77.PNG

and from clinging to top spot, we're now 7 points clear, with just 16 games played. At this rate we'll be safe by Hallowe'en

I've got a transfer budget of £2m, but I'm £3k a week over on the wage budget. I'm probably going to try and get a loan player in if I can, but not sure about the finances and whether I should push it. I'm conscious that if we go up, it'd be worth it, but the board have rejected every budget related request I've made, so if we missed out on promotion, it concerns me they might slash the budget for next year. I will probably adjust the budget to ensure I'm under on wages before January, and see what that leaves me.

December's results were pretty good, but only tell half the story

1783706322_Dec2042.thumb.PNG.0c02dc8cbb46e1d09dddbed111edc826.PNG

I was absent from the bench for the Forest Green game because of something I may have said in the press conference after the Huddersfield game

982446807_Dec2042ban.thumb.PNG.0a443dc9d63a3c72e385c20a48dd0b78.PNG

and we had to play half of the Reading game with 10 men

1304832993_ReadingvArgyle2042.thumb.PNG.c082a1b50bd114b46fcabe568b96a425.PNG

so, we go into the January transfer window top of the Championship, 4 points clear of Sheffield Wednesday, but crucially, 14 points clear of third placed Wolves
