danmcconnell1
I recently bought FM 05 on a disc. Rather stupidly, I forgot my current laptop doesn't have a CD drive, therefore is there a way of getting the game onto my PC without using the disc? Cheers and I'll happily take any heckling for such a schoolboy error!
Peter Morgan
You can buy external cd drives that plug into a usb port. Just search on google. I've got one and it works fine.
FrazT
External drive is your best shot- I am sure that someone in your family and friends will have one to borrow for an hour as they have become more common since modern machine stopped including them. MShing
External CD drive is the way to go. They're not expensive I bought one yesterday from Amazon for £19.
danmcconnell1
@Peter Morgan @FrazT @MShing thanks for this guys, I'm not exactly the most tech savvy guy in the world and wasn't even aware an external CD drive was a thing, so thanks once again! danmcconnell1
Right, so external CD drive is with me, I've installed FM 05, I think, yet every time I go to play the game a box appears saying the following; 'Do you wish to allow this app from an unknown publisher make changes to your device?' I'm clicking yes then nothing happens. Does anybody have any ideas?
danmcconnell1
Looks like my laptop due to being Windows 10 is not compatible with the game. Is there any way at all of still playing FM 05 disc version on Windows 10?
moriartytricks
Yeah, if you Google for a guide relating to "running as administrator" or something like "running older games on windows 10" you will find a plethora of help somewhere!
FrazT
Start by right clicking on the FM desktop icon and select run as administrator
Tikka Mezzala
Let us know how you get on with this. I haven't had any success trying to get FM05 to run.
danmcconnell1
I found a Microsoft forum page regarding this, to run in compatibility mode, when choosing the correct OS I was not given the option for Windows 10 despite my laptop being Windows 10, any other ideas? FrazT
Compatibility mode means that you try an earlier ( or even much earlier) version of the OS, so for FM 05, I would try W7 or Vista first
danmcconnell1
None of them worked for me last night, I was given options from Windows 95 up to Windows 8, tried them all and no luck. The editor works fine, this was run through Windows XP (service pack 3) but again no luck for the game file.
