Note: These base skins are for the full game, not Touch.

As with most recent Football Managers for you to make certain changes in Football Manager 2020 you need to create a new skin. Thankfully over the last few years some more stuff has been moved out of the skins folder so you only really need the Base skin if you are wanting to edit the skin graphics, fonts or colors. If you want to edit the match graphics or the most of the panel xml files you no longer need really need the base skins.

So to make things easier for people I've put up some base skins that are identical to the default skins that come with the game, so you can add new files/graphics to these without messing up the original skins, and anything that isn't located in these new skin folders will be taken from the default locations within the game.

For Football Manager 2020 you have three skins to choose from the Default skin, the Light skin and the Dark skin.

Base2020 Skin - This is the Default skin and is based on the Default Football Manager Skin.

Base2020 Dark Skin - This is the Dark Base Skin and is based on the Football Manager Dark Skin.

Base2020 Light Skin - This is the Light Base Skin and is based on the Football Manager Light Skin.

Editing Fonts
FM 2020 has seen more changes to skinning than usual, the biggest being a new format for fonts, changing from *.xml to *.fontxml, Luckily old files work and just need renaming. You can do this by opening a Command Prompt in this folder and running the command.

ren *.xml *.fontxml

.fontxml files can be edited in any text editor, and we've included all the relevant files for ease of use. To change the actual font, just copy your font of choice to the folder, and edit the fontxml files to match your new font.

Editing Font and Skin Colours
Font colors and skin graphic colors are generally controlled by the settings.xml file in the settings folder. Colors use the following format value="rgb(75,180,240) ", with 75 representing red, 180 representing green and 240 representing blue. You can use any image editor like Paint.Net to Photoshop to get the correct RGB codes then add them to your setting file. It's worth noting that the settings file priorities code in a descending order, meaning if you have two entries for one variable in the same settings file, the one that is higher up will be used. Generally to avoid any potential conflicts though it is worth commenting out any unused code (This can be done by surrounding the unused code with <!-- (CODE) -->

Its also worth remembering some items are hard-coded meaning they can't be changed, others are in individual panels, and some are set in the fonts folder. Colours in the fonts and panels folder are prioritized over the settings file.

For your changes to take affect
Once you've finished making your changes to your skin, you’ll need to go into the Preferences -> Advanced --> Interface Menu and untick ‘Use caching to decrease page loading times’ if it is ticked and then tick ‘Reload skin when confirming changes in Preferences’ then click confirm and your changes should be applied, if you have previousily ticked and unticked the required boxes a 'Reload Skin' button should appear in the bottom left corner, if this button appears you can click that if the Confirm Button is grayed out.

Installation Instructions:

For convenience sake, this year we've packed all three skins together, just extract the skin of your choice to your Skins folder and select it in game

Great job @bluestillidie00  Just wondering, how do you add a full-screen opacity panel overlay to these files to enable background pictures to show through whilst making type still readable? As currently, if you add a background pack, the picture shows through the skin 100%.

Basically this;

Just wanted to say thank you. I use the dark base skin every year to use old attribute colours from about 10 years ago, just copied the text refering to the colours from last years to this and it works perfectly. Also the match day panel from last year works perfectly (with backgrounds off). Top work!

you have to edit player overview panel.xml.

There are two 4 small panels containers so delete one of them, save the file, clear cache and reload skin.

Thanks. Worked great. Is there a way to make the bottom row a little taller?

Ok, but there are LOTS of fontxml files...

can you point us which one should we change to see the changes?

PS: There are some way to make the mouse pointer smaller?

text.xml is the biggest one, but even then files are referenced elsewhere.

This might just be me but the file we extract using the archiver tool and place into the base skins dont actually contain any form of player profile panel/folder... how are we supposed to create out own panel without the default ones to start with!!
