We learnt lot lessons... since then... this season... We harder score against... for one thing. Today is... a chance... see how we measure up... against best team in Italia. My players should... need... no motivating for this one... if they not inspired... this challenge... they shouldn't be play for Sampdoria. Stuniverse
Sunday 25th January 2026 Post-match: Sampdoria 3-2 Inter Milan - Serie A (21) Blucerchiati Messaggero: Congratultions. I didn't see that win coming, particularly when Inter took the lead with a scrappy goal. How do you feel after that? Stuniverse: Grazie. Grazie. My players deserve... all credit... they were magnifico. I love Italia... I love Sampdoria... I love our fabulous fans... they were incredible today... so noisy... give players massive lift... This one's for all the Blucerchiati. Enjoy. Blucerchiati Messaggero: As hat-tricks go, that was something very special. Just how good was Shankland? Stuniverse: Lawrence Shankland was... outstanding today... but for the post, he could've scored four. I know some... eyebrows were raised... when I signed him from Celtic... but I knew what I was getting with Lawrence... he's the most gifted, natural finisher... I've worked with. But today's not... about... singling out individuals... Lawrence's hat-trick... grab headlines... rightly so... but the win was... a... a... collective team effort. The starting-11... the three subs... all gave everything today. They deserved this victory... and I hope the fans enjoyed it. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Gallo went off injured, how is he? Stuniverse: Antonini fell on his... wrist. We get it checked tomorrow... hopeful something he can play through... with Jairo Riedewald... also unavailable with hernia... we need Antonini. "Buzzing" is exactly the right word, @Tajerio... and yes, I am! Made even more special because Lawrence Shankland - a player I took with me from Hibs to Celtic, and then again from Celtic to Sampdoria - scored a hat-trick! Not only were Inter Milan top of Serie A they had won their last 17 games in Serie A. I think it's the hardest I've worked in the dugout during a game on this save. Not only did I make the four changes to formation / system in the Highlights (above), I also made seven or eight more subtle changes as well as three substitutions during the game. 90+3 minutes, we were defending a free-kick, headed it clear from inside our own penalty area, played the ball wide, a great run down the left-wing by Gianluca Caprari, Lawrence Shankland, breaking forward and wide open, receives the pass and scores the winner. YES! GET-IN! Edited July 21, 2020 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
SAVE UPDATE Apologies that this save has't progressed much since the weekend, and probably won't do much this next week either, although I should be able to keep it ticking over a bit more over the next few days. As most of you know, I'm the FM researcher for Derby County and the end of a season (the Championship season has just ended, with the mighty Rams finishing 10th) is always the busiest time of the annual FM research cycle. Stuniverse
Wednesday 18th February 2026 Post-match: Napoli 3-0 Sampdoria - Serie A (25) Blucerchiati Messaggero: A heavy 3-0 defeat. That's not good, is it? Stuniverse: No. I know it look bad... but I thought we play well... we had more possession... more attempts on goal... against a very strong Napoli team... but the breaks all went their way. We're annoyed... we gave them good game... for first goal... ref needs stop game... surely he see genuine injury... then Matteo Soncin make great save... but ball go back straight... their man... he score. Same again... later... Gonzalo Santapaolo make great block... go back their man... score. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Real Sociedad manager Robert Moreno was here scouting Zivkovic. Is his injury bad? Stuniverse: Well Moreno won't... seen much of him. Andrija pulled groin. Maybe a week... or two... out. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Should you have had a penalty? Stuniverse: Si. I thought so. Right before halftime... the referee... actually... awarded it... then VAR change mind. It was inside... penalty area... ridiculous decision. Unbelievable. Stuniverse
Sunday 22nd February 2026 Post-match: Sampdoria - Atalanta - Serie A (26) Blucerchiati Messaggero: You came from behind twice to draw. Was this a point won or two points dropped? Stuniverse: It feel like two points dropped... we believed we could win today... we were confident... so... that respect... it's a missed opportunity. We disappointed... but we could've won it... Massimo Bottaro hit crossbar... late on. Blucerchiati Messaggero: It's now three matches since your last win. Stuniverse: Si. Stuniverse
Sunday 1st March 2026 Pre-match v Lecce (a) - Serie A (27) Match Preview Blucerchiati Messaggero: With Torino, immediately below you in Serie A, drawing 1-1 with Fiorentina, and Atalanta, a place below Torino, losing 4-0 to Lazio, a win at Lecce would really consolidate your position in the top-half and increase the pressure on Roma just above you? Stuniverse: Si. It would. A win would put us five points clear of both Torino and Atalanta. But we go to Via del Mare under no illusions... Lecce... it will be a difficult game for us. Earlier in the season Lecce left our Stadio Luigi Ferraris with... a hard-fought point... in a nil-nil draw... where we couldn't break them down. I'm expecting more of the same... to be honest... and it will be up to us to find... a way to score goals. I also hope for a bit more good fortune than we've had of late. Roberto Baronio (Lecce manager): Stuniverse (Sampdoria manager): Unavailable: Julian Chabot (lower back stress fracture), Giovanni Pagano (groin strain). Stuniverse
Sunday 1st March 2026 Lecce (14th) v Sampdoria (9th) - Serie A (27) Team Selection Sampdoria made THREE changes. IN: Andrija Zivkovic (AMR), Stefano Sana (AMC), Lawrence Shankland (SC). OUT: Giovanni Pagano (AMR-groin strain), Massimo Bottaro (AMC), Bruno Santos (SC). Highlights 23 minutes. Sampdoria changed to a shorter passing style of play. A very even, tight half, with a few chances, ended without a goal. HT: Lecce 0-0 Sampdoria 56 minutes. Sampdoria made two substitutions - Andrea Cistana (DC) and Jakub Jankto (MC) for Chancel Mbemba (DC) and Stefano Sana (AMC) - and changed to a 4-3-3 BALANCED system. 74 minutes. Substitute Bruno Santos gave Sampdoria the lead after great work down the left-wing by former Lecce player Antonini Gallo and Alessandro Cortinovis. 77 minutes. Another substitute, Jakub Jankto, doubled Sampdoria's lead with a thunderbolt from just outside the penalty area. After being set-up by Alessandro Murgia, Sampdoria's forgotten man this season, Jakub Jankto reminded everybody of exactly how good he is with a fabulous strike. 90 minutes. Stuniverse
Sunday 1st March 2026 Post-match: Lecce 1-2 Sampdoria - Serie A (27) Blucerchiati Messaggero: What a turnaround that was. Congratulations. Stuniverse: Si. Grazie. We have a saying back home... "Game of two halves" and... whilst this wasn't exactly that... in the truest sense... we did have two very different 45 minutes... and we're delighted to have come out on top... with the three points. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Talk us through it per favore? Stuniverse: First-half we play as we normally do and... as expected... Lecce play very defensive 4-1-4-1... we struggle break them down... struggle create chances... not look like scoring. After break we make changes... drop our attacking midfielder... back into central midfield... and we take control of game... find more space... create more chances... score two fine goals. Shame we concede near end... but we thoroughly deserve win... I think. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Si, you did, Sampdoria were much the better side second-half. Another tactical masterclass with you changing the system and two substitutes scoring. You must be delighted? Stuniverse: Si. Grazie. Of course. But it the players that do the hard work over 90 minutes... not me... the players deserve the credit. All of them. I delighted for the two goalscorers. It's taken Bruno Santos time to settle but with two goals... in two games... he starting to show why we signed him in January. Jakub Jankto is very good player... but we have found it difficult o accommodate him in central midfield... with Karol Linetty and Alessandro Murgia forming... an... an... an excellent partnership there. Jakub reminded me... today... that he is a very good player. Stuniverse
Sunday 8th March 2026 Pre-match v Udinese (H) - Serie A (28) Match Preview Blucerchiati Messaggero: Udinese are 6th, three places and eight points ahead of you. If you're to have any chance of catching Udinese you have to beat them today, don't you? Stuniverse: It's a big game for us... that's for sure. I wouldn't say it's a 'must win'... lot of game still to play... but... but... but, clearly our chances of catching Udinese... this season... will be much harder if we don't win. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Udinese are unbeaten in their last five Serie A matches and beat you 1-0 at their Dacia Arena earlier in the season. How do you rate your chances? Stuniverse: Udinese are a very good team. They battered us... at the Dacia Arena... and the scoreline flattered us. That said... we are playing much better now... we're harder to beat... and Udinese have drawn four of those five unbeaten games. We are confident and... with the Blucerchiati cheering us on in the Stadio Luigi Ferraris... we fancy our chances. Unavailable: Julian Chabot (lower back stress fracture), Giovanni Pagano (groin strain), Lorenzo Innocenti (virus). Doubtful: Andrija Zivkovic (pulled groin-90), Lawrence Shankland (bruised ankle-90). IN: Jakub Jankto (MC), Bruno Santos (SC). OUT: Stefano Sana (AMC), Lawrence Shankland (SC). Highlights 20 minutes. Against the run-of-play, Bruno Santos gave Sampdoria the lead, heading home Alessandro Cortinovis's cross. HT: Sampdoria 1-0 Udinese 48 minutes. Sampdoria's two goal hero Bruno Santos went off injured and Massimo Bottaro replaced him. 79 minutes. OFF! Udinese's Guglielmi received a straight red for an appalling challenge on Andrija Zivkovic that could have caused serious injury. 89 minutes. Jakub Jankto wrapped up the points against his former team, arriving late in the penalty area, to collect Alessandro Murgia's low cross and score with a fierce shot. 90+2 minutes. Alessandro Cortinovis made it four, finishing off a superb Sampdoria move involving Chancel Mbemba, Jakub Jankto, Alessandro Murgia and Massimo Bottaro. Stuniverse
Sunday 8th March 2026 Post-match: Sampdoria 4-0 Udinese - Serie A (28) Blucerchiati Messaggero: Well I certainly enjoyed that one. Congratulations. Stuniverse: Grazie. The players were magnificient... I'm so proud of them. It was a funny game... odd... strange... Udinese started well and... for 20 minutes... we couldn't get close to them. We had a couple of break-aways... scored from the second one... then the game changed... we grew in confidence... they seemed to lose confidence... and by half-time I thought we had control of the game. After the break... we dominated the game. Scored four good goals... three points... we're delighted. Blucerchiati Messaggero: You didn't look happy during the second-half, what was going on there? Stuniverse: I was furious with my... my... my counterpart... Lorenzo D'Anna... the way he had his Udinese side playing. The foul that injured Bruno Santos bad enough... the challenge on Andrija Zivkovic was criminal. Fair play... referee... produce red card... instantly... but Andrija... very fortunate... his leg not broken. Blucerchiati Messaggero: You started 4-3-3 as you finished against Lecce, not your usual 4-2-3-1, and your team played the system very well to great success. Are we likely to see it next weekend in the derby della Lanterna against Genoa? Stuniverse: Si. 4-3-3 suited us... for half-an-hour or so... against Lecce and... again today... after sticky 20 minutes... or so. We haven't decided yet how we'll set-up against Genoa. Stuniverse
14 March 2026 WHAT'S HAPPENING IN SCOTLAND? I decided to take a quick look at how my former club's are getting on... Celtic doing what they always do... now under my successor Gaeton Bong. Hibernian right up there in third place under Ralph Hassenhuttl. Good to see both clubs made it through to the Betfred Cup Final. After flirting with relegation back to League One for a couple of seasons, it's good to see Falkirk back in the playoff hunt again under their current manager Owen Coyle.
