You beat Genoa 1-0 at home earlier in the season, can you win again away at home? Stuniverse: [laughs] 'Away at home' is... good way put it... Si, we won 1-0... at Stadio Luigi Ferraris with... majority of supporters in Stadio... our own Blucerchiati. We're on a good run... we train well... and we're confident of getting a result at Stadio Luigi Ferraris... even if our own supporters... be minority this time. Blucerchiati Messaggero: What do you think it'll be like playing an away match in your home Stadio Luigi Ferraris? Stuniverse: I... I not know. I never managed a team... before... who... who... who share Stadio. I guess... it'll be familiar... but different... I no doubt be... be... be... oh, what's the word... disorientate... I no doubt be disorientate... go into wrong dressing room... sit wrong dugout [laughs]. That sort of thing. Stuniverse
Sunday 15th March 2026 Post-match: Genoa 0-2 Sampdoria - Serie A (29) Blucerchiati Messaggero: Congratulations on beating Genoa. Again. And impressively too. Stuniverse: Grazie. I think we deserved it... the players... magnifico... and 7,000 odd Blucerchiati in a sell-out crowd... were louder than the... so-called... home fans. It was a fantastic game... and we won it. Sampdoria supporters have the bragging rights... once again... in Genoa. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Forgotten man Jakub Jankto has come from nowhere and is now running the show - that's what?... four goals in two matches plus about half an hour in the third. Stuniverse: Si. Jakub has been an exemplorary professional... since we been here... never moans... trains hard... has been patient... and now his patience be rewarded. We've struggled... I'll admit... to fit him into our usual 4-2-3-1 system... with Karol Linetty and Alessandro Murgia forming... excellent central midfield pairing there... and when we suggested selling Jakub in January... he say... he not want leave... even though I said... at the time... I could't see him playing much. Funny how things work out though... we changed to 4-3-3 second-half against Lecce... played Jakub on left of midfield three... and he's been outstanding... that position... ever since. Stuniverse
15 March 2026 CATCHING UP WITH STAN (MY AGENT) Stanley Baryla (agent): Thanks for getting me tickets for the derby della lanterna... is it called that? Stuniverse: You're welcome, Stan. Nice to see you again. Si, it's called the derby della lanterna and it's quite an occasion, isn't it? Stanley Baryla (agent): It sure is. Congratulations on how well things seem to be going and you can speak Italian too. Stuniverse: Si, a bit... but yes, after a somewhat shaky start, things are going very well, thank you... or I should say, grazie. Stanley Baryla (agent): Even though you've still got nine Serie A games left, I have to ask this, you understand, as your agent, I need to be prepared. What are your career thoughts for the summer? Stuniverse: I want to stay here. I'm enjoying it. I'm settled. My back-room team are all settled. The club feels like a good club, the Board are supportive, the supporters have made me feel very welcome, and things are going well on the pitch too. Stanley Baryla (agent): Even with the Board reducing the percentage of transfer revenue you can retain to 30%? Stuniverse: Yes. Stanley Baryla (agent): Stuniverse, are you sure? Stuniverse: Yes. Look, I'll never say never, especially as it was primarily Board decisions that made me leave Falkirk, but I feel we've got a very good squad here at Sampdoria which, even if it's pretty much the same squad next year, I think we can do even better and qualify for Europe next season. We could yet qualify this season, but it's a big ask and we'll be relying on two or three other teams slipping up. The older players in the squad aren't too old, I think they'll be able to do the same again next season, and we have some good, up-and-coming young players who will only get better and benefit from this season's experience. It does depend on budgets but, as long as the wage budget for next season allows me to keep the players that I want to keep, then I'd like to carry on working with this squad and see what we can achieve next season. Stanley Baryla (agent): OK. When will you know about budgets? Stuniverse: Assuming the Sampdoria Board do things the same way they did in Scotland, it'll be a few days after the last game of the season. Stanley Baryla (agent): I was half-expecting you to contact me to make enquiries abut the Roma job. Were you tempted? Stuniverse: Tempted, yes. And in the summer, when I was looking for a new challenge, and it was looking more and more likely it was going to be Italy and Serie A, I would've jumped at the chance to manage Roma but, now, I don't think their finances are any better than Sampdoria's, in fact they may even be worse, and the expectation and pressure to succeed would be a lot greater at Roma as Antonio Conte discovered to his cost. I'm really enjoying life in Italy and I can see myself spending the rest of my career out here. An opportunity at one of the Italian big boys, at some point, would be tempting but I repeat, I'm very happy here at Sampdoria, I'm settled, I'm comfortable, I'm happy... and I'm not looking to get out as I was at Falkirk and Celtic. Stanley Baryla (agent): OK. I get where you're coming from. If i hear anything that I think you might be interested in, I'll be in touch. Otherwise, you know how to reach me if anything changes. Stuniverse: I do indeed. Thank you, Stan. Edited August 9, 2020 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 22nd March 2026 Pre-match v Roma (H) - Serie A (30) Match Preview Blucerchiati Messaggero: You're a point behind Roma and have an opportunity at home today to go above them and put pressure on Fiorentina and Udinese in pursuit of European qualification. After beating them 1-0 at Olimpico earlier in the season, you must be confident of completing the double over Roma. Stuniverse: We play very well... that Monday night at Olimpico so... si... it gives us belief... and we've seen this season... how a full crowd in Stadio Luigi Ferraris... help lift the team. It won't be easy though... Roma still above us in Serie A... and have a new manager... Cristian Stellini in charge now. Blucerchiati Messaggero: This is Stellini, the new Roma manager's second match in charge, what did you learn from their 3-0 victory over Brescia in his first match? Stuniverse: Not a lot... be honest. Roma expected beat Brescia... and they did... comprehensive. Cristian was only appointed... barely 24 hours before Brescia game... so this first Serie A game... where he's had full week with team training... and they did look very good... in 3-0 Euro Cup victory over Fenerbahce in week. Stuniverse
Sunday 22nd March 2026 Post-match: Sampdoria 1-3 Roma - Serie A (30) Blucerchiati Messaggero: After grabbing the initiative early you must be disappointed by what happened after you took the lead. Stuniverse: Si. Very. Blucerchiati Messaggero: What happened? Stuniverse: We start well... Massimo Bottaro score good early goal... but we not hold onto it long... within five minutes Roma level... and I think we find hard... after that... as Roma grow confidence. They better than us off ball... they work hard... won ball back... Kurt Zouma brilliant for them... at that. Master class. The penalty kill us... at 2-1 down... we felt very much in it...pushing for equaliser... and then... then... then... words fail me... Giovanni Troupee not touch Origi... Origi not stumble... not go down... how is that penalty? Blucerchiati Messaggero: Can you still qualify for Europe? Stuniverse: Doubtful. We seven points off with eight games left play... mathematical we can... qualify... but realistic... we had win today... I think. We keep playing... keep looking earn as many points we can... but Europe is big, big, big ask of us now. Did your team selection cost you in a disappointing defeat to rock-bottom ChievoVerona? Stuniverse: No. I don't think so. The team selected today... should've been more than capable... of getting a result. We had the lion's share of possession... had more attempts than them... but we not get enough on target. We very disappointed... we let players know... that... after the match. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Recently you've been playing a relatively settled side so why did you make five changes today? Stuniverse: All five players... we took out and put on bench... were one yellow card away... from suspension. With an important game... against Fiorentina... up next... I didn't want risk... five players being suspended. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Instead, you lost and Fiorentina are now 10 points ahead of you with only five matches left. Stuniverse: Si. Stuniverse
Sunday 3rd May 2026 Post-match: Parma 1-3 Sampdoria - Serie A (35) Blucerchiati Messaggero: Were you worried at all when Parma took the lead? That it could be another result like ChievoVerona? Stuniverse: Si, of course... you never like to go behind... in games... and gainst ChievoVerona... we were unable to pull it back. I have confidence in this squad of players... I believe in them... and they show character... spirit... determination... turn round a 0-1 deficit... into a 3-1 win. Blucerchiati Messaggero: You still have a shout at European Qualification. Fiorentina may have a seven point lead over you, with three to play, but two of those matches are against Inter and Juventus so it's not an easy run-in for them. Stuniverse: It's a long shot... of course it is... and Fiorentina only need one win... and they finish the season... at Bologna. We can't influence... what Fiorentina do... or what Roma do... we can only influence what we do. We have SPAL at home... Brescia away... and finish against Napoli at home... we need win all three... I'd say... then hope. Nobody thought in the summer that... with three games left... we'd still have chance... qualify Europe. Stuniverse
5 May 2026 LOAN REPORT Blucerchiati Messaggero: All of Sampdoria's out-on-loan players are getting plenty of playing time which bodes well for next season given the growing concerns about the state of Sampdoria's finances. Stuniverse
Friday 8th May 2026 Pre-match v SPAL (H) - Serie A (36) Match Preview Blucerchiati Messaggero: Playing first in the Friday night game gives you a great opportunity to put the pressure on Fiorentina and Roma above you, doesn't it? Stuniverse: Si... I guess... but only if we win. Our situation is simple... we have to win our three... remaining games... and hope Fiorentina and Roma slip-up... which... to be perfectly honest... with you... I don't expect them to do. But we have to do our bit... we have to win. Look... remember nobody expected us to still... be in... with chance Europe qualify... with three games left... we've had a very good season... whatever happens in run-in. Blucerchiati Messaggero: At home, against SPAL who are 19th, and have lost their last three Serie A matches, and lost six out of their last eight, you should be able to get three points. Stuniverse: On paper, si... but we saw... against ChievoVerona... football is played on grass... not paper. We need to professional... apply ourselves properly... and if we do that... with our supporters in Stadio Luigi Ferraris cheering us on... we confident of getting win. Stuniverse (Sampdoria manager): Unavailable: Gonzalo Santapaolo (suspended). Doubtful: Matteo Frau (bruised ankle-90), Andrea Cistana (tight calf-90), Jairo Riedewald (tight hamstring-90), Andrea Chiodo (hernia-45). Stuniverse
Friday 8th May 2026 Post-match: Sampdoria 2-0 SPAL - Serie A (36) Blucerchiati Messaggero: The win moves you above Roma into 7th and you're now only four points behind Fiorentina. Stuniverse: Si... but both of them have a game-in-hand... now... which they'll play on Sunday... Roma at Cagliari... and a difficult one... Fiorentina... at Juventus. Blucerchiati Messaggero: Are finances as bad as is being reported and will your summer budgets be affected? Stuniverse: We've lost money this season... si... but I have... I have... I have no idea what budgets will be... we talk about that... season end... all I know... I given transfer budget... and wage budget... by the Board... and we've underspent on both. I'm within budget. Like I say... let's focus last two games this season... then we worry... about next season. Stuniverse
16 May 2026 ROMA SLIP-UP Blucerchiati Messaggero: As Sampdoria prepare to play Brescia away in the Stadio Mario Rigamonti tomorrow, their hopes of qualifying for the EURO Cup II playoff have been given a huge boost with the news that Roma have lost 3-1 at home to Atalanta in the Stadio Olimpico. A win against Brescia tomorrow will secure Sampdoria's place in the EURO Cup II Playoff but they will be hoping Inter can do them a favour against Fiorentina to keep Sampdoria's hopes of qualifying for the Euro Cup alive going into the last match of the season. This means that the you spend most of your earnings on Wages comparing to other clubs. Lets say you get £1M profit in the season, you spend £750K of that on wages. Is it good or bad? I think it depends? If you improving in league position earn more money therefore you can afford better players, this would be good. But if you are underachieving and making less turnover and then spending 75% of that on wages it's not too good. I thing better scale in terms of if you are doing good or bad is Salary Per Annum in Stats Detailed.
