NickmarJr
Kev, probably a ridiculous question but been over thinking it so just want to make sure. having already bought and downloaded FM21 beta on my current laptop. When I purchase a new one, will I just be able to install steam then install the game and copy my save files over yeah?

Yes, the purchase is linked to your Steam account, so as long as you log into the same Steam account you'll be fine. If one is already up and running with a game and you try to load a game from your account on another computer, it'll kick you off of the other one before it loads up the new game. Just that I have a desktop, 2 laptops (one of which I don't really use any more, just kept it as a spare in case the newer one died on me) and the other one is the laptop my son uses as he plays a couple of the games on my account. However, factoring in $ to £ conversion, that's a decent price for that spec. Based on my own experience with the previous gen version of that APU (I have a laptop with the Ryzen 5 2500U), it should be good for medium settings with some tweaks. In terms of laptops around £300, there's very little to recommend in the new bracket. This refurb would be OK, but still not great. All of the ones I can see advertised on the Lenovo site are models with the ultra-low power 10th gen Intel processors. This means they have a base clock speed below the SI stated requirements for FM. Because of this, I'm not going to recommend them. It's not to say they won't work, but these CPUs will get throttled under load and so it is possible that their performance won't be ideal for FM. I would be interested to hear if anyone has experience of running FM on a laptop with one of these chips to see how they perform.... But until I hear anything to say otherwise, my advice would be to steer clear.

Out of all these 2-in-1's, this is the one I'd go for (at least from the Currys range): https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-x360-15-6-amd-ryzen-5-2-in-1-laptop-512-gb-ssd-black-10206956-pdt.html The Ryzen 5 4500U is a very good laptop processor, with decent integrated graphics capability - should play FM21 in medium 3D settings (possibly higher). Or, this one is effectively the same, but 256GB storage as opposted to 512GB on the other: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-envy-x360-13-3-2-in-1-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-black-10206938-pdt.html EDIT: Not quite the same, the first one has a larger screen... But, CPU and RAM are the same. Edited November 16, 2020 by kevhamster

DeepThought
Hi, I'm looking at a new laptop and I'm currently interested in there HP Omen. There's a Ryzen 7 4800H version and a 10750H version. From what I can tell the AMD has superior multi-core by some way (16 threads/8 cores if I'm right) whereas the Intel has better single core performance (and is only 6 cores). But I haven't kept up with hardware in recent years to really know enough about what I'm on about. Does anyone have enough knowledge to tell me which would be the superior (if any) option for FM ? The computer meets my needs from every other perspective and either would suit my needs outside of FM. The only benefit of the Intel is a larger SSD, but I could forgo that if the AMD was actually a much better processor (I have minimal storage needs for a laptop). Thanks in advance. Truth be told, there is very little in it and either will do a fine job. if they are close in price, I'd probably be inclined to go for the Ryzen, purely because it does have more cores and it does score a bit higher in the multi-core tests which will be the bigger difference maker for overall computer performance. Purely in FM terms, there is very little performance gain from having an SSD over a HDD. Yes, the system as a whole will boot up quicker and things will load quicker, but for FM itself the difference is minimal. But, for the budget you've stated, you have to manage your expectations as to what sort of system you're going to be able to get.

Junkhead
Hi all Hope I'm ok posting here as my question in desktop upgrade related rather than laptop. I either self build or get custom built every five years or so, and my last one was end of 2015 so I've started looking. However I'm starting to think that there is little point, was just after some opinions to see if I am right. I only really play FM (and civ now and again) and in my current set up I can run all leagues and am happy with the speed. On FM20 I ran leagues from 75 countries. My current set up is; AMD FX 8350 Black edition (8 cores, 8 threads, 4.0ghz), 16gb 1600mhz ram Nvidia Gtx 740 120gb SSD which only contains windows 10, fm21 and graphics as well as a couple of basic apps (chrome, Spotify, etc). Everything else is stored on a 500gb HDD. My gut says upgrading at this point would only give me slight returns and not be cheap. Thoughts?

Thoughts? Well the processor is eight years old probably (EOL) end of life. Unless you can upgrade the motherboard so you can get a new processor. RAM is quite slow - would need more details from you in regards to RAM type and motherboard. I think it would be best to buy a new one from scratch as you'll be replacing all parts, and likely the case anyway. What's the budget?

I'm running a 1660 Super and it plays smoothly at max settings at 1080p. I'd honestly say the 2060 is overkill if you're not playing other games, unless you're getting a really good deal on it. Will it be good enough or better than getting RTX2060..? 🤔

It's not better than the 2060, but if FM is all you're playing then it'll be ample. FM isn't graphically demanding by current game terms. The CPU is far more important to FM than the graphics card. sseharai
Hi @Kevhamster & @Smurf thank you for doing this What is your budget? - £600 or below Any other info - FM21 wise I would like to be able to load all leagues, use the biggest databases, use the 3D match engine, no lag, face and logo packs Would like a laptop. Would like it be lightweight (if possible). Last me around 5 year at least Netflix - Yes Other games - No Edit videos - Yes Music/Spotify - No (YouTube more likely) Edit photos - No Etc - N/A From my limited research (I am no tech buff so don't know much) this what I have found, would really appreciate your opinions on them. Also some recommendations of alternatives both on spec and price. Thank you very much! https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B086TC8GN7/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A2OAJ7377F756P&psc=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0845V656Z/ref=ewc_pr_img_2?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08HR3W84V/ref=ewc_pr_img_3?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1 Edited November 17, 2020 by sseharai Missing word 'know'

Processor only been in use for five years at this point, although old. RAM is Corsair vengeance, which remains on the market at a similar price I paid for it 5 years ago. Motherboard is Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3. Budget not really a factor, but this one was custom built at about £550 so I would expect to get an updated one for similar, although that did include the ssd which I wouldn't be replacing this time. I have been looking at 6 core Ryzen 5s or 7s, but am really not convinced on the performance uplift vs price. Actually wondering if it's worth waiting until EOL and seeing what is available then.
