How do you know? That's just your opinion.

Yes, yes it is. And stand by what I said, only a crazy billionaire, who wants to spend money like crazy, would buy MacBook Pro to play FM. The other, 99.99999999% of the people, buy MacBook Pro primarily for work, not as an exclusive for FM.

Do you have stats to back up your claim?

Here's the rub.

Buy any Mac - it doesn't matter they are all good FM. They are all flyers.

They are all priced from £999 and up to over £4000

They are all overpowered for FM. If you're buying one for work - then you must be doing some sort of
music, digital art, photography, graphic design, film editing etc.

So if you can do all that on a Mac - you can play FM.

It's not a very demanding game in terms of specs.

And if you use a PC and do any of the things listed above - then your PC will be fine for FM too.

I'm not in the habit of telling people the untruth.

You don't have to be a billionaire - I'm not.

I have bought for myself in the past 4 Macs at a cost of £3000 each.
£12,000 in total.

And I never did install FM on them - not sure why.

Just have a laptop that does just as good a job and only cost £764

Look, I don't impose my opinion to others, so feel free to disagree with me. But in my humble opinion, people buy Macs for works, specially for video editing, photo manipulation, graphic design and app development. They don't buy them to play video games.

Sure, PCs are less expensive and reliable machines, but people for one reason or another prefer to buy Macs for work, if it plays certain games, that is bonus.

I do graphic design, photo manipulation, video editing, animation etc...

That's my trade.

I don't use Macs all the time. I have them.

But I prefer to buy PCs - as they are cheaper, easier to upgrade, and outperform Macs -
and paying half the price of a Mac.

*bold part*

That's your opinion. It's not a truth.

It's an assumption.

But yes - generally people don't play games on Mac.
Yet - here we are talking about buying a Mac to play a game...

There's literally no point in this conversation.

Macs are expensive.

You don't need a mac do to graphic design/video/animation etc.

I know, I work in the industry.

I don't buy them anymore as they are too expensive.

Much capable PC computers out there that are cheaper and do the job just as well.

That is what makes sense to you, I respect that. Others, don't share that same opinion, we have simply to respect their decisions, even if they spent more money.

I never ever once said otherwise.

*edit* and what if they don't realise they can spend less and have the same experience?

It's great if they have more money to spend on it - but what if it helps someone realise that they don't need to spend that much...

I think the thing is, they know PCs are much less expensive, but still prefer Macs. :P

Anyway, sorry for this small interruption. Carry on.

I don't know - very general assumption.

But anyway - an interesting narrative and hopefully didn't cause too much disruption.

Hi there, my MacBook has just had a melt down and needs a replacement screen, pre-empting a massive bill so thinking of a replacement.

I do some graphics work as well as some Djing so need a machine to cover this as well as FM. Seen this online which should do the job. Wondered if it was a bit of overkill in terms of spec https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B086XXS7XW?dchild=1&keywords=razer+blade+15+studio+edition&ref_=as_li_ss_tl&language=en_US&sr=8-3&linkCode=gs4&linkId=975648e7a15d53535082f941524f056b&tag=skatesphere21-21

any advice welcome. Cheers!

I am looking to buy a new laptop to end my almost 10 year hiatus on FM. Am buying it exclusively to play FM and browse the internet, so don't want to spend more than $500 (I live in the US). Ideally I would love to run 10 countries / 20 leagues on a large database, but 3-5 countries / 6-10 leagues would be good enough.

I went to the Best Buy website and filtered on what I wanted:

  • Minimum Core i3
  • Minimum 8GB RAM
  • Screen size: 15.6"

This is what I found: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-15-3501-15-6-hd-laptop-intel-core-i5-1135g7-12gb-memory-256gb-solid-state-drive-black/6455737.p?skuId=6455737

Do you think that would do the job? Or are there better options around?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I think you'd likely need a larger SSD than that if you're looking at DJing and graphic work than that, but given graphic design is an area of expertise of @Smurf I'd ask his opinion, but I think spec wise it's probably fine aside from the small storage.

I'm guessing this (cheap) PC wouldn't be any good for FM22 , no other games will be played. Just music, pics and videos stored on it

It will run FM but it wouldn't be brilliant.

Did you specifically want an all in one or would you be interested in looking at laptops as well? All in ones tend to be overpriced for the spec.

Hopefully this is a silly question, but I would like the conformation from people that know better than me before I make such a big purchase.

This is what I am ordering and would like to know if it will be fine running FM with lots of leagues loaded.

Thanks

I would rather have a computer but I'm not opposed to having another laptop (mine is 9 years old and its full of rubbish to be honest)

Whatever i would have it would be used for football manager only and maybe storage for family pictures, music and videos

As per the OP, how acceptable the speed is with a large number of leagues is entirely subjective, so this is not something we will comment on.

However, it's a very strong spec and will run FM (and pretty much any other game you want to play) very well.

After reading this thread a lot I think I've narrowed my choice to 3 laptops but I'm open to other suggestions

This is reduced to £649 from £849 which looks like a good deal, although not sure about the 16.1 inch screen. Prefer up to 15.6 but would need to look at them side by side to be sure. Also if it's "just fine" for FM plus some older games like Commandos, Shadow Tactics etc then I guess it would be better to look at a higher spec like these two below in case I want to do something more demanding on it in the future or generally to last longer.

Price is £999.
For some reason the spec doesn't mention graphics card. And not sure if 14" screen is comfy enough to play FM (mostly at home, only sometimes on train/plane)

Or this config from PC Specialist for around £1000-1050 (below is £982 but I might need to add/change something here or there):
Elimina Pro Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD 144Hz 72% NTSC LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Intel® Core™ i7 Eight Core Processor 11800H (2.3GHz, 4.6GHz Turbo)
RAM 16GB Corsair 2400MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 - 4.0GB GDDR6 Video RAM - DirectX® 12.1
1st M.2 SSD Drive 256GB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (1900 MB/R, 1100 MB/W)
Integrated 3 in 1 Card Reader (Full Size SD / SDHC / SDXC)
1 x 120W AC Adaptor
1 x 1 Metre Cloverleaf UK Power Cable
Elimina Pro Series Integrated 46Wh Lithium Ion Battery
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
2 Channel High Definition Audio + MIC/Headphone Jack
GIGABIT LAN & WIRELESS INTEL® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (2.4 Gbps) + BT 5.0
1 x USB 3.1 PORT (Type C) + 2 x USB 3.1 PORTS + 1 x USB 2.0 PORT
ELIMINA PRO SERIES RGB BACKLIT UK KEYBOARD
Windows 11 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence [KUK-00003]
NO ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE
INTEGRATED 1MP HD WEBCAM
3 Year Standard Warranty (1 Month Collect & Return, 1 Year Parts, 3 Year Labour)
STANDARD INSURED DELIVERY TO UK MAINLAND (MON-FRI)
Standard Build - Approximately 10 to 12 working days

I assume the PCS one beats the Currys one in the same price bracket but I might be missing something less obvious but important in the specs and this is where I would like to ask @Smurf and @kevhamster to have a look and advise accordingly.

Budget is in 700-800 area for a vfm deal which means it could be worth to wait for Black Friday deals if I zero in a specific machine.
Or around £1000 for something significantly better than that if payment can be split monthly (they can in most places these days).
Not interested in a laptop screaming GAMING in terms of the looks.

The PC Specialist build is definitely the best one by some distance.  Neither of the other two have a dedicated graphics card, which you will want if you're looking at other games.

That's not true. Some M1 Macs are - in the 13/14 inch range the price seems fair enough compared to the market of PCs.
And only the 14 inch basic entry level. After that the price is up past the £2k mark.

In the 13/14 inch models the price is reflective of the current market - and the best processors available.

After that it's the 16 inch models of Mac M1 - and they are extremely price.
Starting at £2.4k

This is availbable to buy now and would be on par - if not moderatly better

I don't play any other games that are remotely graphic intensive... However, for FM - and general use, I'm enjoying the Honor Magicbook Pro. The screen looks bizarre at first, but after a few hours I actually really like it. Feels spacious without ending up with a ludicrously big/heavy laptop.

Battery life seems bloody good too, if that's a concern!

Bagged it for £599 via Box's ebay once it went back to full price/out of stock on the website.

Hi all,

I’m looking at a new laptop and saw @Smurf‘s list (thank you!) so on a slightly different note, can anyone recommend a monitor?

I have half an eye on the MSI lappy, so I don’t really want to spend more than £200 on a screen if I can avoid it.

Can you help?

PSA: Some of you may already be aware, but for those who cannot wait to buy an Intel Alder Lake CPU to play Football Manager 2019, 2020 or 2021 especially with Windows 10, you may want to wait a bit longer. Intel confirmed that those versions, along with several other games, have issue on their newest platform. They're working on updates, but the ETA is a fairly vague "mid-November"; whenever the new Windows 11 update releases. FM21 may not be affected if you're playing on Windows 11, but you may want to tread carefully.

As an older FM fan I still play on my Old Macbook Pro 10.13.6

That is about as technical as I get. Last year I could not access the Beta after pre paying but when the full game was activated it worked fine. I have looked at the systems requirement page and the limited bits I know all apear fine. My question is if I managed to play the game last year would I be able to play the game this season, obviously I will now wait for the full game on nov 9th?

They could well get quite warm.  It's a lot of powerful components in a relatively small chassis.  But, with any of these things, read up on the reviews and make sure you're happy.

All we can really do is comment on the spec.  The thread gets busy and reading reviews on everything alongside looking at suggestions would make it pretty much unmanageable.

The best within your budget seems to be this.

Although i'd consider upgrading the RAM to 32gb for photoshop work.

I'm getting mixed reviews if the 3060 is compatible with the latest version of Photoshop - but that would only affect 3D work.
Do you do 3D work in Photoshop?

If not then this is good.

If so - let me dig around, my laptop is about to lose battery after been on for over 11 hours.

Yeh - there's great things coming - which means 2 things.

The new computers will be pricier.

But the older ones with already good processors we are already recommending should become cheaper.

Hi, out of the two following links which would you decide on? Both have almost identical specs and was pretty set on the Dell but have now seen the HP Omen within my budget and could do with some advice. I want to play with a high 3d level if possible. Thanks

Thanks mate, I don’t do 3D work so this looks a good one to consider. Thanks for your time 👍
