Thanks for this Kev, been looking around and saw this one for a little higher than my initial budget, do we think this is a decent deal?

Hi guys. Looking to move from my macbook air to a better performing PC, so I can run a few more leagues and also enjoy better graphics - as currently I can only view on the lowest settings. It's likely i'll only use the laptop for FM, but potentially it might be used by my partner for work now and then. I'd say my max budget is about £700, so looking for some advice.

I'd prefer a sleek look rather than anything too colourful or bulky. So far I like the look of the following:

Buy HUAWEI MateBook D 15.6" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i5, 512 GB SSD, Grey | Free Delivery | Currys

82K200C2UK, Lenovo ideaPad Gaming 3 AMD Ryzen 5 8GB | Box.co.uk

Buy HP Victus 16-e0514na 16.1" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 5, RX 5500M, 512 GB SSD | Free Delivery | Currys

30029417, Medion Erazer E10 Intel Core i5 8GB RAM | Box.co.uk

Taking into account the price, are there any you think would be best? Or are there similar alternatives within budget you'd suggest instead?

In FM terms, i'm looking for something that could run enough leagues for an interesting journeyman! Thanks in advance!

I'd still go with the one I linked to you as it has the better CPU.  The graphics card isn't quite as strong, but for what you wanted the one in it is more than enough.  The extra cash here really isn't worthwhile for what you'd be using it for.

I currently have this gaming laptop: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/156-msi-gl62m-7rdx-1693-fhd-i7-7700hq-8gb-ddr4-128gb-m2-sata-ssdplus1tb-hdd-4gb-gtx-1050-usb-30-type

I use it only for work (Microsoft Office) to play and store music (Itunes) and for FM. I know for FM is overkill but ive been able to run 60+  leagues on a medium sized database with half a star estimated game speed and its run very smoothly.

unfortunately there's a massive crack in the middle of it and now half the keyboard doesn't work.

I want to continue the current heavy save game I have on my new laptop but I don't want a gaming laptop anymore

Do you think this laptop will be able to do the job. It has more RAM but less cores (8 as opposed to 4): https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9500185?istCompanyId=a74d8886-5df9-4baa-b776-166b3bf9111c&istFeedId=c290d9a9-b5d6-423c-841d-2a559621874c&istItemId=ppriqqxim&istBid=t&&cmpid=GS001&_$ja=tsid:59130|acid:289-152-2757|cid:15282679567|agid:133711655470|tid:pla-1464900537520|crid:562178177462|nw:g|rnd:7503125657393838073|dvc:c|adp:|mt:|loc:9044966&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=15282679567&utm_term=&utm_content=shopping&utm_custom1=133711655470&utm_custom2=289-152-2757&gclid=Cj0KCQiAhf2MBhDNARIsAKXU5GR-xOXNs0in_lvWRFwTAbhucM3WSY23KWFSt_AJD1B6I_DIXq80w7IaAus3EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Yes - the CPU in that new one gets higher benchmark scores than your existing one.

Hello! So, are there any good Black Friday deals for a new laptop?

I need to buy one but not in a rush, so if there's not a great deal to be found, could hold on a few more months to potentially get a better/newer device for my money then. Is it fair to assume that the laptop marked indeed moves on quickly?

I'm looking for at least 15.6'' mainly used for standard everyday tasks (browsing, music, video watching, some very light photo/video editing) + FM. Would appreciate allowing some multitasking. In regards to FM - would like to play with 3D but if there is a considerably cheaper option that only allows low res 3D or 2D only (but is still perfectly suitable for other required use) then I would consider this. Would play with 3/5 leagues, medium/large database. Most important a reliable machine, not overheating. Budget +-£600.

If possible, would appreciate some recommendations regardless of whether there's a deal to be had today, so I could potentially monitor the prices throughout the upcoming sales period.

Thank you!

Looking for a laptop bargain , ideally don’t want to pay more than 400 could stretch to 500 at a push. Just wanting a laptop to play fm22 and do a little web browsing , nothing else . I have to admit I’m out of my depth when it comes to knowing what is good , I looked at some laptops on Amazon  and some of the reviews in terms of product quality made me quite worried. If anyone can recommend a bargain I would be really grateful , I don’t want to get ripped off . Anything for around 400 . Cheers in advance for any help

They'll all do the job.  The best one overall is the most expensive one in this case, but all are quite capable.

The cheapest one doesn't have a dedicated graphics card but should still manage the 3D graphics at medium or higher.

When it says hard drive not included, this means it's running of an SSD rather than a hard drive.  SSD's are a lot quicker than hard drives, but also more expensive so you'll generally find they have smaller capacities than a hard drive would.

I'd avoid that.

https://www.box.co.uk/9S7-14D314-430-MSI-Modern-14-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-256G_3814440.html is £100 cheaper and a better option as it has a better CPU and better integrated graphics capability.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-VivoBook-i5-1135G7-Graphics-Trackpad/dp/B096MT8N2Q/

Trying to decide between these two Laptops, they're basically exactly the same  but one has a Ryzen 7 5700 CPU with integrated graphics, whereas the other has an Intel i5-1135G7 with an MX350 graphics card.

The Ryzen has 16,530 on https://www.cpubenchmark.net/laptop.html ,whereas the Intel has 10,181. But would the dedicated graphics card make up for that in terms of processing speed? Would it run quicker than the Ryzen alone? I'm not fussed about graphics particually, as I play in 2d anyway. The most graphical intensive game I probably play is CK3 but that runs on my old 3500u anyway.

 Thanks!

If the graphics side of it doesn't bother you, go with the Ryzen 7.  All the better graphics card will do is improve your chances of max 3D graphics settings, it won't have any bearing on the game's processing speed.

Hi guys,

looking for a pc. I already have monitor and peripherals so budget is purely for the pc.
looking at the following https://www.box.co.uk/Cube-Sparrow-v2_3634792.html?config=2335908,2472017,3617799,3917462,3934089

could go up to £1500 if there is anything worth the step up? Or is there any better deals you are aware of? Wanting to play fm with good graphic settings and speed etc.

Hi

Any suggestions for a laptop in the 250 price range. I would only use it for Internet access and playing FM. Typically I only play with the 4 big leagues. Any ideas?

This is the best I can find: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/product/laptops/820-g1-2/

It's a refurb with 12 month's warranty.

Hi Guys,

for private reason I would like to buy a new Apple Laptop' an Im looking for a new Mac Book Air. I know from you that the M1 chip is perfect to run FM. Can I play with full details? What about heating? I read there is no fan in the new MacBooks. Does this mean it get's very hot when I'm using it on my knees sitting on the couch? How long would you estimate can I run FM on this device in high details? Next 2-3 years? Cheers

1 Mac Book Air. I know from you that the M1 chip is perfect to run FM.

2 Can I play with full details?

3. What about heating?

4. I read there is no fan in the new MacBooks. Does this mean it get's very hot when I'm using it on my knees sitting on the couch?

5. How long would you estimate can I run FM on this device in high details? Next 2-3 years?

1. - As perfect as most computers from £999 and up

2. Yes - you can play full details with almost any computer that meets at least minimum specs - how fast it runs is a different story - and it's subjective - 10 minutes might be fast for you and slow for me.

3. Depends what you're running on the computer besides FM - as some Apps are simulated on the M1 through Rosetta and reports of these causing heating issues. - so yes, it can get very hot, but it depends on what you're using.

4. There are fans - and there are steps on Apple site https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202179

5. It's impossible to tell you how long your computer will last, the M1 chip is relatively new, and longevity hasn't been proven with them (how can it it's only a year or two old) - best guess is that like most computers valued £999 and up - there's no reason it won't last 5 or 6 or 7 or 10 years for FM. But again it's subjective - nobody but SI and their staff know the longterm roadmap for FM and there's no guarantees.

If you're buying a computer for FM over £999 and it doesn't last 2-3 years then I'd be extremely worried - in short, it shouldn't be a problem.

@sgevolker sorry - you might mean full detail graphics.

Yes - you can on most modern cpus with integrated graphics - very good quality in a lot of modern processors.
M1 chip is no different - good graphics quality for FM.

You'd either need to up the budget a fair bit or consider a smaller screen.

That's the options really

Unless you want to buy second hand - you could try eBay

If you find any - post the link here and we can take a look if it's ok or not.

Or try your local Stores like CEX (if you have them there in your country?)

Post a pic of the specs from the shop.
