Firstly - as per opening post - we cannot tell you if it will be fast enough for you. It's subjective.

I can't believe people do not read the opening post - it's in the thread title.

Secondly - if you're on that low of a budget you might want to reduce your expectations for how many leagues you want to load - as per the opening post.

Thridly - as per the opening post

What's the actual budget?

I'd avoid that - this works out as a similar price and has a much better CPU.

Hi, after some advice please.

I have a budget of about £1500 for my first gaming laptop.

I want it to run FM22 quick with a lot of leagues loaded (for a journeyman save). I also will be using it for work (citrix connection) and I use photoshop quite a bit.

I am tempted to get the Lenovo Legion Pro (https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/lenovo-legion-5-pro-16-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-rtx-3070-1-tb-ssd-10220354-pdt.html) as I have heard good things about this laptop.

Is there better out there for similar money?

For those in the UK I think this laptop is a bargain at £675 (it even has OLED!!):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Vivobook-OLED-Screen-400nits/dp/B097THBBNJ/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1POOXEHRTHAYK&keywords=5700u&qid=1640161964&sprefix=5700u%2Caps%2C108&sr=8-4

I have another laptop with Ryzen 7 5700U (8 cores 16 threads) and similar specs. It offers amazing performance at only 25W TDP, integrated Radeon Vega graphics. CPU performance in Cinebench R20 multicore: 3690, single core: 492. Can max out 3D graphics settings in FM.

Because of the CPU's energy effieciency I'm able to play FM for many hours on battery only, still with amazing performance, I only lower screen brightness.

Hope this helps someone in their search for an FM laptop :)

Hi all, festive greetings. It's a long time since I got I last bought any kit to play football manager (I think it was possibly the FM 01 days!)  but really missing it!  I was playing on my work laptop via Stadia but wasn't really working for me.

So Budget wise
Circa £300-£500 - I know the budget isn't astounding but it's a toss up between this and a PS5 and I'm realistic - will happily push the budget if it's the right thing to do.

Tasks
I won't really be using this for anything but Football Manager and perhaps basic word processing when the ipad doesn't suit. I have an ipad Pro (but don't enjoy mobile) for other tasks and a work laptop (the latter is locked down and I can't run anything on it)

Expectations
I very rarely play with more than 2 leagues but enjoy a large-ish databse. 3D match engine isn't really my thing - I'm very much old school text and stats and moving map-style - ideally I'd like to future proof it for next year.

Slight request
I don't have the best eyesight so I prefer a larger screen (though I do cope with my 11 inch iPad I might struggle for long periods of FM reading

Many thanks in advance

I can't see any 16" or 17" laptops in that budget I can recommend.

The best thing nearest to the lower end of the budget I could see is this one: https://www.box.co.uk/30031065-Medion-Akoya-E15303-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-_3552568.html

Hi looking for advice on a laptop to get. Want it to run quite a few leagues at least 8-10, and ideally I would like it to run fm smooth for a good few years. Don’t mind it being on medium graphics setting. Ideally would like to spend between 600-700 but would maybe push to 800 if it was for something that would run it much better. seen these 3 or is there anything better for the money?

Good Afternoon everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a new laptop purely for FM22, my old one would take forever to load FM21 (sometimes 30min just to load up).

I usually play with 6-7 leagues across 3 nations, medium or large database and always done 2D match engine however I would be keen to try the 3D engine. Would I need a laptop with dedicated graphics card for this?

My ideal budget would be under £550, be interested to hear best recommendations so I can play and enjoy the game instead of spending all evening waiting for things to load! At the moment best I have found is the below but ideally I do want to be nearer the £550 not £650 mark.

So I take it the 16BG ram one isn’t worth the extra money?

what about these 2 would they be better as one is an i5? Or would you still recommend the first one?

Hi. I'd be happy to spend up to £600 on a new laptop however if there is a big difference in quality I could push it to £650.

I'll be using the laptop for FM, emails and watching netflix, skygo, nowtv and prime video.

My FM setup is usually English leagues down to league 2 and then the top division loaded in France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Holland, Portugal and Scotland. I also use a custom large DB retaining top South American players.

I have looked at posts from the last week and have seen the following laptops suggested to people so could someone reccomend me the best one for my budget and requirements or an alternative option please.

Or would these be worth going slightly above my £600 budget for?

The Ryzen 5900HX CPU is faster than the Ryzen 7 5800H, it is not an insane speed boost if I recall correctly, but it still faster. The GPU is slightly worse, but since FM barely uses it then it doesn't matter and it is still a top of the line card.

Could someone give me some advice please?

Will this laptop run FM to a fairly decent speed. I'm not a heavy user, just 5 leagues.

Hi,

I currently have a Dell XPS 13 and looking for a new laptop to run a fair few leagues (more than 10 ideally) and also view matches in 3d on high settings. Currently my Dell runs hot if viewing 3d on low settings.

Would this laptop be a good buy? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

If your computer is running hot it's likely it has some dust build up in the fans.

You can buy a can of compressed air and blow it through the vents on the computer to clear them - or open up the computer (there would be online video somewhere for your model) and you can clear the vents and fans.

Always keep your laptop off fabrics like carpets, couches, beds etc - a cheap laptop stand is a good investment (they cost about £20).

As for the linked laptop - it looks good to me.

I can't better it for the type of graphics card.

Next best I can find is a bit higher on the budget
https://www.box.co.uk/GV301QEZ-K6082T-ASUS-ROG-Flow-AMD-Ryzen-9-16GB-RAM-1TB-S_3617149.html

Which I think would be a big step up.

I've got an XPS13 and XPS15 and they are really easy to open so you can clean the fans. Dell also have very good on line manuals which will show you how to do it.

Looking for a laptop which would be used solely for playing FM. I have a desktop for my main playing and video recording but would like something portable to be able to get through the in between bits without being stuck upstairs.

Graphics don't matter as I'd only be playing on 2D on it. I have 8 countries loaded. I don't care about crazy loading speeds but obviously don't want each continue to take 10 minutes.

I don't want to spend loads but recognise that I'll need to spend a fair amount. I am happy investing in something which will be able to run the games reasonably for many years to come. I'm a tightwad so don't want to spend more than £300 but I am assuming that won't cut it, so am 'happy' to go to £500-£600 and perhaps beyond.

Any advice would be appreciated

I tend to run with all the major European top flights, Norway, Denmark, Brazil and Argentina (roughly 10-12 leagues) with a large database. 2D match graphics.

Having looked through the posts from the past month the following seem to be recommended most frequently. Which would be best for me?

Hi all,

After several years of FM gaming on my Macbook(s) the era has come to an end. I simply need to have a separate gaming laptop. The classic overheating issue is taking the life away from both my Macbook and myself.

  • I usually play with 20-25 leagues across nations
  • Big database of players (+100.000 players)
  • I do never use 3D match engine

I am looking for a laptop to run FM22 and coming versions very smoothly within the above mentioned targets - and not at least avoiding the overheating and noise! No plans of other games to be played on this new laptop. The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 seems to be a good option - but as tech newbie I question myself which of these two models I should choose and why? Hope you'll find time to give some feedback!

Forgive my ignorance gentlemen but after a few years away it's time to get a gaming laptop.

Got probably £800 to £1200 but aiming to try and buy for the future as well.

Gaming mainly but outside of FM is mainly strategy (processor heavy?) Like Hearts of Iron, Victoria with the exception of train sim..

Been rooting around on box.co.uk but am a bit spoilt for choice.

Should I be trying to max on everything 16GB RAM, 1tb ssd and processor or are some more important than others for my needs.

Thanks in advance and my apologies for my ignorance. You are doing fine work on here!

I'm looking at getting a custom made laptop but would like some advice.

Its got integrated graphics but I only play 2d matches.

Intel i7

16gb ram

1tb intel m.2 ssd drive. (3500mb/sr,2500mb/sw)

My budget allows me to eith upgrade to 32gb ram or I can get a 1tb PCs 2.5 ssd (520mb/r, 470mb/w)

Which is better for ensuring the game runs better with plenty of leagues loaded.

Or anything that someone can suggest that may help instead.

1st batch is best processor
2nd batch is 2nd best processor, and
3rd batch is 3rd best processor
ordered by performance - then by price

Batch 1

This is the best performance but it's only a 13 inch laptop (priced highest to lowest)

https://www.box.co.uk/GV301QEZ-K6082T-ASUS-ROG-Flow-AMD-Ryzen-9-16GB-RAM-1TB-S_3617149.html

Batch 2 (priced highest to lowest) all same performance

https://www.box.co.uk/NH.QC2EK.003-Acer-Predator-Helios-300-Intel-Core-i7-1_3746140.html

https://www.box.co.uk/FX506HM-HN014T-ASUS-TUF-GAMING-F15-Intel-Core-i7-16GB-R_3627481.html

This one is cheapest - smaller SSD drive - but should be plenty
https://www.box.co.uk/9S7-158112-081-MSI-Katana-GF66-Intel-Core-i7-16GB-RAM-5_3632305.html

Batch 3 (priced highest to lowest) all same performance

https://www.box.co.uk/82JY0018UK-Lenovo-Legion-5-17-(2021)-AMD-Ryzen-7-16_3557958.html

https://www.box.co.uk/30031897-Medion-Erazer-Defender-P15-AMD-Ryzen-7-1_3820499.html

https://www.box.co.uk/NH.QBCEK.007-Acer-Nitro-5-AMD-Ryzen-7-16GB-RAM-512GB-_3746136.html

https://www.box.co.uk/30031893-Medion-Erazer-P25-AMD-Ryzen-7-16GB-RAM-5_3820600.html

https://www.box.co.uk/4H2B4EAABU-Victus-by-HP-16-AMD-Ryzen-7-16GB-RAM-512_3821919.html

---------------------------

You're main focus here now is - if 13 inch would be ok for you - if it is it's a no-brainer.

If not then you can check out the other ones - and decide if you want a

  1. Larger SSD drive
  2. Screen size
  3. Price

That's about all that's left to decide.

All should be very very good for Fm.

No - that's the wrong thing to look for.

Put the money into the processor - not RAM.

That processor wouldn't be the best for FM.

What's your actual budget?

Do you need a thin and light laptop?

PS you can do a screenshot by pressing Window Shift S - draw a marquee on the screen - which will copy it to the clipboard.
You can then paste it directly.

Summary

Window Shift S
Select your area for a screenshot
CTRL V to paste it to the forum.

Im wondering if this laptop would be able to play FM 22 comfortably? - (I'm not very tech savvy)Or would I need something better. I don't play any other games.

ASUS VivoBook X705 17.3in Celeron 8GB 1TB

Thanks

J

We would need the computer specs.

But it does say Celeron - so I wouldn't say it would be good enough.

Do you have a link so we can check it out?

Hi - posted a few weeks back as I was on the hunt for a sort of budget machine to run FM on. Never got around to buying at the time, but have started to look again in earnest and came across this one - https://www.box.co.uk/X415JA-EB022T-B-ASUS-VivoBook-14-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-2_4101728.html.

I can’t really afford to spend more than £450 unfortunately.

I'd go for this within that budget: https://www.box.co.uk/X515EA-BQ170T-ASUS-VivoBook-15-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-2_3813204.html

Fan noise is reported as non-existant to very low.

It's a decent computer - but you can probably get a better PC laptop for a lot less.

If you're not interested, then get the Mac at the highest price you can afford - as there are zero upgrade options.
Get the most you can now.

*edit it can be played with the retina screen.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm buying the macbook m1 2nd hand for £650, fm is the only pc game I play so after shopping around and seeing various hp omen/ asus rog/ acer nitro laptops with gtx gpu's for the same price they would be overkill for my usage wouldn't they ? I only play 2d with 3d for goal replays

At that price it's pretty decent.

If that's what you want it will be fine for fm.

Thanks for all the advice so far - really liking the Asus one.

An ex colleague has this Lenovo available for £290 (refurbed) I can only find the Currys listing of it here

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-3i-14-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-blue-10228900-pdt.html

If you're sure it's exactly the same spec as the Currys listing, and you're happy with the warranty (or lack thereof) then £290 is a very good price.

Cheers Kev, it is the same one. Just wasn't sure if it was any good. It has a few scuffs but  doesn't bother me - it's literally to get the game played for me!

Yep - good spec to be fair.  11th gen i5 chips are very good.

Hi All,

Looking for advice please. I have looked at some great laptop suggestions on this thread but I'm struggling to find these in Ireland. I also have a few quid credit for this store so would like to buy here if I could find the right device

What would the feeling be on the links below?  I do want to us 3d match engine but with only English leagues running

https://www.harveynorman.ie/computing/laptops/asus-vivobook-14-m413-14-amd-ryzen-5-8gb-256gb-transparent-silver.html

https://www.harveynorman.ie/computing/laptops/samsung-galaxy-book-15.6-core-i5-8gb-256gb-mystic-silver.html

Budget of €650, laptop will only be used for FM22

Sorry to jump back in - but is there any major difference in performance on these two machines?

1) https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/lenovo-ideapad-3i-14-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-blue-10228900-pdt.html

2) https://www.box.co.uk/X515EA-BQ170T-ASUS-VivoBook-15-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-2_3813204.html

I am torn on the two at the moment. If the bonus of the ASUS is a larger screen then I’m more than happy with 14 inches. Just wondering if I could get more bang for my buck with a 14 ASUS?
