So I have started to go away more with work so need to pull the trigger on a laptop as the one I have barely starts.

£600 budget ideally with finance options, longevity for the laptop for me would be the top priority and it would be used for just casual streaming and FM.

I was tempted by the MacBook air m1 but can't see the benefit in paying 300 quid extra for that just because it's apple - I would be interested to hear the opinion on this laptop because I can get it interest free for £36 a month

At under £600 I'd go for this: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/hp-15seq2510sa-15.6-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-512-gb-ssd-silver-10225070.html

With the Macbook Air M1, it's known to be a very good performer and plays FM very well.  It seems to be the best 13" laptop you can get at the price.

I'd still personally go for a Windows based laptop when taking into account value for money.  But the M1 based Apple laptops do perform well based on the feedback we've had here.

Went for the MacBook in the end the reviews I read were second to none on it and seems it wasn't a case of paying more just because it's apple but paying more because it's a very good laptop!

Thank you for the reply though

For the budget and specifications, have you considered a Dell G15?

In the Dell Outlet, currently has a 12% off code available, meets all your specifications and with the code comes in at £718.08 - cheaper than your other options. Matches the specs of the Dell Inspiron but is a dedicated gaming laptop and cheaper.

Thanks both. After looking further into it the Inspirons seem to have issues with overheating, is that something you were aware of?

Not personally, but I don't look into things in that level of detail otherwise this would take up too much time!  We just look at the best specs available for the money.

Out of the three, I'd go for the middle one purely for FM.  The third one does have a dedicated graphics card, but that isn't needed for FM and so I'd suggest sticking within your budget.

Thank you.

Have you happened to come across any other Amazon laptops in your time in the same price bracket, or do you think the specs are decent for the price? Thanks

This one would be within the budget and seems to be the same spec as the third one in your post, so that being the case I'd go for this.

Good afternoon folks, I am looking to buy a new laptop (or desktop depending on a number of factors) and I was wondering if the following would run FM22 reasonably well?

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-5-a51454-14-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-silver-10212836.html

I susp[ect the answer is probably no but thanks in advance for taking a look.

Yes - that's an absolutely cracking deal.

Good processor and the integrated graphics will handle the 3D graphics at medium settings or more.

Wondering if anybody help could assist in choosing my next laptop.

I'm pretty much solely going to use this for FM22 and some browsing.  I have an old tank of a laptop which processes FM awfully so I'm just looking for smooth gameplay and I play with 2D.

I've narrowed it down to these 2 (although I'm open to other suggestions). My budget is £400

https://www.costco.co.uk/Computers/Laptops-MacBooks/Lenovo-IdeaPad-S500-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-256GB-SSD-156-inch-Laptop-82FG00X3UK/p/363916

https://www.box.co.uk/82LN00DJUK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3746804.html

Having compared the 2 on benchmarks the Ryzen comes out ahead with a higher CPU mark. Although the Intel has a higher single thread rating.

Also, both have solded RAM so this couldn't be upgraded at a later date. How much of a cause for concern is this?

You won't get better than these for the price.  I'd personally go with the i5 based on the fact the Lenovo seems to be operating with single channel RAM which Ryzen CPU's don't like very much.

You'll need to take the laptop out of S mode in order to install Steam or Epic and so enable you to install FM.

Hi,

I am in desperate need of a new laptop as I'm currently using a second hand laptop that is quite old, can't handle FM (the way I want to play it) too well and it tends to get way too hot after minimal playing which makes me stress about it.

I have had a look at a few articles and topics about getting a laptop but don't know where to start on comparing them/picking the best one. I ideally would like to play a game with a majority of the European leagues loaded and a large database to keep the realism up and I do tend to play with the 3D match engine more than 2D. If this can be done on a laptop with minimum hassle and without the laptop getting too loud or hot then that would be perfect. I know "minimum hassle" is subjective but as long as the game runs relatively smooth when playing games and isn't too long on loading times between days as I've built up a patience playing on this current laptop!

In terms of budget I have set a maximum of £1,200 but would always like to save a few quid where I can, the below keeps getting recommended on these articles but as it's a large investment and is at the higher end of the budget I've set I was wondering what takes you had on it and if there were any better options out there at a lower cost that can run to my standard?

Thanks

First thing I'd ask is whether you want to play other games as well, or just FM as that will have some bearing on what I recommend. :)

Think for the foreseeable I’d only be looking at FM and it’s future iterations as well as  giving that new F1 manager a try when it comes out.

This is basically the same spec as the one you posted and over £300 cheaper.  It'll do the job for you very nicely.

Having waited to long to go for the last laptop I looked at (price went back up to £599) I'm on the hunt again and wondered if refurbished would work, I've been looking at this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-EliteBook-840-Laptop-Refurbished/dp/B07Q45YH2F any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

What was your budget?

Can't really comment on that one as it doesn't specify which i5 processor it has in the listing, but looking it up I'd assume it's the i5-7200u which is a dual-core CPU and quite slow by current standards.

They both seem to be the same thing and I'd avoid these as the processor isn't great.

For £400 you can have this, which is much better: https://www.box.co.uk/82LN00DJUK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3746804.html

You'll just need to switch Windows out of S mode to install Steam or Epic and by extension FM: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/switching-out-of-s-mode-in-windows-4f56d9be-99ec-6983-119f-031bfb28a307

I'm really just looking around at the moment, it's not an essential purchase but if I can find something reasonable that will run FM22 and maybe Civ 6 to a respectable level and is around the £500 or less mark I would jjump on it. OPrepared to wait if there's nothing out there at the moment though.

My main driver is that I am using an old PC in my office (spare bedroom) and would prefer to have something I could plug into my TV so either  a laptop or desktop would do.

I've seen some really good help from the community on here so, I would like to pluck some knowledge myself.

I would love a laptop for FM ( my current one is about as quick as a snail ) I have a very limited budget of £400-£600 but the lowe the better. I have a couple of laptops I like the look of, but would love your help.

Ideally I'd like 3-D graphics in game, and to be able to have 3-5 leagues playable. And for it not to take a century to simulate a day 😅.

https://www.box.co.uk/82FE00A2UK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5i-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-_3596980.html

Or

https://www.box.co.uk/4P3C7ESABU-HP-240-G8-Intel-Core-i5-8GB-RAM-256GB-SS_4087891.html

My knowledge is limited. I know an i5 would roughly run what I want but any help would be so so great.

Thank you in advance

This seems to be the same as the first of the two you posted, but is cheaper for no apparent reason.

Like the one you posted, you'll need to switch it out of S mode: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/switching-out-of-s-mode-in-windows-4f56d9be-99ec-6983-119f-031bfb28a307

I'd avoid the second one you posted - the 10th gen Intel laptop CPUs have very low base clock speeds.

Would it decent enough for 3-5 leagues and the 3_d pitch in-game?

Although we can't comment on how you'll find the speed (as per the original post), it's a very capable CPU.  The integrated graphics will be able to manage the 3D match settings - possibly not at the highest preset, but should manage medium at the very least (I suspect it would be higher than medium based on the feedback I've seen, but if you assume medium, which to be fair still looks good, you won't be disappointed).

Hi guys

Just purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 (3511), Intel i5-1035G1, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD. Before I open it and can no longer return it if need be, could someone advise if it will be sufficient to play FM22 to a decent standard?

I usually watch in 2D so really just looking for something which will run multiple leagues well if I install various face and badge packs.

Thanks

How much did you pay for it?

It's not one I'd have recommended due to the base clock speed on that CPU being lower than SI recommend, but I don't doubt that it'd run the game.

£449 from Currys. Wasn’t aware about that regarding the CPU, worth going back and getting something like:

You can, but it won't be ideal given the 4GB RAM.  Is this a machine you already own, or are you looking at a new one?  If you're looking at a new laptop, let me know your budget and I'll see what I can find.

How do people rate Macbook pros & Macbook airs for FM? Ive read about how quiet the fans are and how smooth it runs FM. Does anyone know if they get really hot? I am tempted to get a MBP or wait till new one gets announced with M2 this year

RAM can be upgraded sometimes, but it depends on the model of the laptop.

If you can give me some examples of sites you're looking at, I'll have a look and see what I can find for you.

Hi all,

I am looking to spend £500-700 on a new laptop that will run Football Manager comfortably - ideally with 8GB of RAM and as good a processor as possible and a graphics card that enables me to play on 3D.

I'm open to any suggestions and brands - many thanks for your help!

I am looking to spend £500-700 on a new laptop that will run Football Manager comfortably - ideally with 8GB of RAM and as good a processor as possible and a graphics card that enables me to play on 3D.

I'm open to any suggestions and brands - many thanks for your help!

RAM can be upgraded sometimes, but it depends on the model of the laptop.

If you can give me some examples of sites you're looking at, I'll have a look and see what I can find for you.

My targets this :

1.IdeaPad 3 14ADA05

2.ACER Aspire 5 Slim (A514-54-313V)

I'm looking for a desktop base unit (remember them?) With plenty of RAM, a nice quick clockspeed, a half decent graphics card and a little bit of future proofing.  Recommendations please?  I want to run plenty of leagues and can probably stretch to around £1000.....although less would be nice.

Can you provide actual links to the ones you're looking at please?  Model numbers can be a bit hit and miss with laptops so I want to make sure I'm looking at the correct ones.
