I wouldn't recommend it as the base clock speed is below what SI suggest.  What's your budget?

Looking at anything around £400 which is not much to play with I assume. Appreciate your help though :)

found these two, I'm able to do the AO due to discounts etc on HP. However still not sure if it matches the idea of football manager.

Both are basically the same spec, so I'd go for the one at Argos.

You'll need to switch Windows out of S mode using the steps here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/switching-out-of-s-mode-in-windows-4f56d9be-99ec-6983-119f-031bfb28a307

You'll likely need to use lower 3D graphics settings with this, but the CPU itself is fine.

Hi - recently returned to FM but having issues with the game on my 2016 vintage Dell laptop.  Anything other than a single league & small database gives a performance indication of half a star.

Is the CPU likely to be the problem :

Intel Core i5-7200U 2.5 GHz

RAM 8 Mb

Intel HD graphics 620

I don’t want to spend on a better laptop if another issue might be the problem.

If it is the hardware could you recommend a Dell laptop up to £500 ish? Playing FM will be the only real activity apart from general surfing, Excel etc.

Thanks

Yep, your current CPU is fairly weak by current standards, however rather than relying purely on the star rating which is flawed, I'd suggest running the game with the setup you want and see how you actually find it.  I am going to assume you meant 8GB RAM rather than 8MB!

In terms of your requirements, if you only want to look at Dell laptops, then the best you're going to find under £500 looks like this: https://www.box.co.uk/2V448-Dell-Vostro-15-3515-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256G_4103172.html

If you're happy to look at things other than a Dell, you can something like this which offers better performance for the money than anything Dell is currently offering: https://www.box.co.uk/82LN00DJUK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3746804.html

Which will run the game better M2 air (8 - 10 core) with 24gb ram or MacBook m1 pro (8 - 14 core) 16gb ram? I need to buy a new laptop, needs to be a Mac. What setup will run the game best? £2,000ish budget, play strategy games like Civ but no AAA games. Multitasking stuff like zoom calls, films and music a bonus but not essential.

As per benchmarks on: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?

This scores the M1 Pro higher overall, although this does show the M2 offers superior performance per core.  I'd say it's going to be a fairly close thing between the two based on these scores.

As Kev says it will be close.

I would suspect that the M2 will be quicker but, and its a big but, the Pro has fans so can sustain performance for longer which is important for FM.

Interesting. What would have the better performance if I went with the pro; Apple M1 Pro with 8-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine with 32gb RAM or Apple M1 Pro with 10-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine with 16gb RAM

Thanks

For FM?  It would no doubt be marginal

Extra RAM would make zero difference and i'm betting unless you manually added detail to leagues you aren't playing in then the extra cores would make zero difference either.

I'm betting both would benchmark the same

Again though this is for FM.  Your milage with other workloads may well be different

These are the Apple Silicon we have tested on FM so far -

Test A Test B Test C Test D Type CPU CPU Model Base Turbo/OC Cores Threads Cache Year RAM

Hi.  I’m looking for a laptop mainly to play FM, but also some other games too…will also be watching Netflix etc.

Budget is around £600-650.  I’ve seen the below laptop for £629, but if I can get better bang for my buck that would be good!

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/4374749?clickSR=slp:term:acer nitro 5:1:38:1

If you've seen that same spec for £629 and it's brand new, my advice is to snap it up.

My current laptop can do up to fm19, but it's quite slow (1-2 mins to progress) I feel like fm20 was the start of the new era so in dire need of an upgrade.. I've budgeted 3-500 (prefer not to be too close to the top end as it'll be used exclusively for fm but I also want it to last a while) I've looked through the recommendations already on here but with prime day starting today I was hoping I might be able to pick up a bargain. I only ever run maybe max 4/5 leagues as I normally try focusing on developing my own players rather than signing all the wonder kids.

These 2 are what I'm looking at atm

ASUS VivoBook 15 X515EA 15.6" 16gb ram https://amzn.eu/d/ftxGNpu

https://www.box.co.uk/82KD0008UK-Lenovo-V15-G2-Ryzen-7-8GB-RAM-256GB-SSD-_3614140.html

Any suggestions would be appreciated, many thanks

Either is fine.  The Ryzen 7 scores more highly overall in terms of CPU, but the i5 does have twice the RAM and twice the storage.

Both are very well priced, so I don't think you'd go wrong choosing either of these.  The i5 is probably a bit more future proof due to the larger RAM, even if the CPU scores a bit lower.

Thanks, just as an aside I picked up fm20 (21?) for free in the Epic games store weekend however many moons ago, thinks its worth sticking with that until fm23 in a few months or buy fm22 to play?

Personally, I do think FM22 is a decent improvement over FM20 for the most part,  Whether it's worth it for you I can't really comment on.  If you're still enjoying your FM20 save then perhaps think about waiting for FM23 as that's only gonna be around 3 months away, based on past version release dates.

Hi, I am looking for a PC to run FM 2022, and this is what I am looking at right now.

https://www.microcenter.com/product/641228/dell-optiplex-7050-micro-tower-desktop-computer-(refurbished)

I only plan on using this PC to play FM and do some schoolwork. I am not very good with PCs, and this would be my first time ever having one. Does this look good for the price? This would be about the max of my budget. Thanks.

Hi there - I have the new MacBook Pro 2022 M2. I'm surprised to find the 'this pc's graphics capability' is rated one star on FM22. Yet when I change the settings to 'high' the match-play/graphics seems to play perfectly fine. Can someone explain this please? I've spent ages trying to figure this out myself and can't seem to find a straight answer. Thanks.

The star ratings are known to be flawed.  If you're happy with how the game runs and the frame rate of the 3D match graphics then don't spend time worrying about it.

Hi guys, don't know alot about laptops or technology. Looking to buy a laptop that i can use solely for football manager, max budget would be 400-500 pound but would prefer a little less. I get it might be hard with such a low price but can't bring myself to spend a full month's wage just for fm haha. Thank you

Looked at these from argos because I can get good discounts, wonder if they would be capable

Fair point, as I am happy with how it appears. But out of interest would a laptop with a higher end spec (for graphics) make the gameplay during matches look any different considering that the Mac lets me play with all settings as high/very high? I assume the answer is no.

Looking to upgrade my laptop from a MacBook back to Windows Laptop. Would this laptop be good enough for FM? Is there processor recommend for FM/Gaming end in a H?

https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-5-series/legion-5-17-amd/82jy009fus

Yes, that's more than good enough but you can get better value for money.

This one above has a stronger CPU paired with the same graphics card for considerably less than the one you were looking at.  The main difference is it's a 15.6" screen rather than a 17".

So my laptop literally shut down trying to load up a new game of FM22 :( Strange as i paid like €800 and only got it 4 years ago.

So I'm looking for a laptop to play FM22 and general browsing, able to flick between FM22 and chrome/youtube preferably. Maybe one or two other random games but not too fussed. Would probably only look at loading the main leagues so game can run as fast as possible.

I was looking myself but kinda overwhelmed by everything so was looking for recommendations around the €1,000 to €1,300 mark based in Ireland :)

Any advice is greatly appreciated keep up the good work :D

needing a new laptop as me old one is knackered, i’ve got a budget around £550, it would only really be used for FM but possibly Discord and the odd bit of browsing. i’m less bothered about graphics and more about loading a bigger database, any help would be much appreciated :)) Cheers

I'd appreciate suggestions for a new gamer laptop - using Intel and GeForce (by popular builts such as ASUS, Alienware or RoG) that I can excellently play FM23 onwards.

I'm in the US. Amazon, Best Buy and CostCo are popular online stores but am open to other ones.  My budget is flexible (between 1k and 2k dollars).

Thanks for your advice.

This is an excellent deal: https://www.costco.com/acer-nitro-5-15.6"-gaming-laptop---12th-gen-intel-core-i7-12700h---geforce-rtx-3060---144hz-1080p---windows-11.product.100941298.html

The equivalent Alienware, which has a 14" screen goes for $1,899 which is a huge increase in price for the same spec: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/alienware-x14-gaming-laptop/spd/alienware-x14-r1-laptop/wnr1x14cto10s

I can't find any RoG laptops with Intel CPU's within your budget, although this one with a Ryzen 9 CPU is an outstanding deal: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-strix-g15-advantage-edition-15-6-fhd-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-9-5900hx-16gb-memory-radeonrx-6800m-512gb-ssd/6466550.p?skuId=6466550

Thank you so much. I forgot to mention: I like 17 inch screens (my bad, sorry). Also, you recommended a Geforce rtx 3060, whereas there is 3070 ti and even 3080 out in the market. Should I go for these new graphic cards, thinking about future FM editions?

Any better recommendations on 17 inch screen, even if the price is closer to 2,000 US dollars. Thanks.

Assuming FM stays on anything like the same trajectory it has, I can't see the 3070ti or above being necessary - even the 3060 is complete overkill in FM terms at this point.  I have the 1660 Super in my PC and it doesn't even break a sweat with FM at the highest graphics settings.

Here's a 17.3" option: https://www.costco.com/msi-ge76-raider-gaming-laptop---12th-gen-intel-core-i7-12700h---geforce-rtx-3060---144hz-1080p.product.100849691.html
