Of course! Windows would help wouldn't it..?! lol

Thanks fella, I was looking at Surface Pro 3 for just over 300 on Amazon but as I'm pretty much just looking at something to edit with, I'm trying to find a tablet or 2 in 1 maybe for under 200 quid if it's actually possible. :)

Just to add, I've also noticed you asked about 2-in-ones.

There is literally nothing I can see I'd happily recommend at under £200.  The cheapest one I can see which meets the specs required to run the game is this one at £350: https://www.box.co.uk/GE199-Geo-GeoFlex-340-Intel-Core-i3-4GB-RAM-12_4141190.html

It's not fantastic, and I'm not sure what the graphics performance will be (I suspect you'd need to choose lower pre-sets for 3D match graphics) and given it's a 14" screen it's not much more portable than a standard laptop!

Hello all,

I am thinking of getting back into this game after buying a new laptop. It would be a return to FM since the last one I played, FM 2008.

I know little about computers so I would appreciate if someone could advise if the spec is good enough.

This is the machine & thanks for your help:

Yes, that laptop will run the game.  You'll probably need to fiddle with the graphics settings to get a smooth frame rate but I reckon it'll probably be ok for medium settings.

Hi all.

How does this look?

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/acer-aspire-3-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-black-10224403.html

I would be looking to run the game in 2D mode only, with a pretty large database of players (I tend to use most/all players loaded but only a few countries/leagues).

My budget would be around £400 and to purchase from Currys is ideal as I have some vouchers to spend there :p

Aside from FM it would be used for general university work/Excel/Youtube/Netflix. Nothing overly taxing.

Thanks!

I'd avoid that one.

Thanks mate. I'd prefer the 15.6" screen, but if the performance would be insufficient, no point going for it.

Can I ask, going forward, how I would go about assessing the performance differences? (I know absolute basics). I see the one you linked has the i5-1135G7 processor which I'm assuming is preferable - how would I go about comparing processors in the future?

Thanks a million.

Would I have to limit how many leagues I run etc?

As per the OP, we can't comment on how many leagues to run, as how acceptable the speed is to someone is entirely subjective.  I'd say run the game and see how you find it (download the demo if you want to be sure).

I personally wouldn't go crazy with how many divisions you load though, the CPU is certainly good enough to play FM but it isn't particularly powerful so you may well find very large databases process quite slowly.

I use these sites to compare benchmark scores:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/

image.thumb.png.e84d05465e40c3ebc80e4faa6a5a0b3d.png

Above is a screenshot from the first site I mentioned.  The numbers after the cores/threads rating are the scores in various benchmarks, the higher number the better.

TDP stands for thermal design power or, depending who you ask, thermal design profile. The TDP number tells you the maximum heat a computer chip, such as a CPU or GPU, can use in watts. It also is often used as a basic indicator of power consumption.  Basically, the higher this is, the more load it will be able to withstand before it restricts the speed to stop the CPU from overheating.

Also, this isn't necessarily essential (as clock speed by itself doesn't necessarily mean a huge amount in the grand scheme of CPU performance, it is just one of many things), but FM22's specs suggest a minimum clock speed of 1.8GHz as a base - where the base clock speed is below this, like it is on the i5-1035G7, I will steer clear of recommending these.  Whilst I don't doubt it will run FM22, as the base clock speed is that much lower, you may possibly see processing becoming very slow under load, hence my caution with these.

In terms of wanting a 15.6" screen, here's one with the same CPU for £449.00: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/huawei-matebook-d-15.6-laptop-intel-core-i5-512-gb-ssd-grey-10230118.html

Just bought some old PC parts quite cheap that includes an i5 4670k processor.

How well will this run FM22 and will it work with the integrated graphics?

Considering it's a 9 year old CPU, it's actually still OK.  It won't be blazingly quick, but it won't be terrible either in terms of processing speed.

The integrated graphics will work, but I would imagine you'll need to use lower graphics presets.  As I often say with things like this, my suggestion would be to download the demo and see how you find it.

Hi,

first of all, the creator of this thread and those helping are all hero's! I have long wanted a decent laptop to play FM on but had no idea how to compare various processors and was worried about overspending on a mediocre laptop. My current laptop is getting on a bit and ranked 905 on the processor list which would explain why it takes about a day to progress a day in FM!

Looking for an upgrade with a budget of £600 or less. Preferably from Amazon as I have some vouchers / credit to put towards it. I like to watch my matches in 3D and usually have all the English leagues down to the conference and then the top European leagues as well (La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Bundesliga) with a medium database (although If I could run more quickly I probably would).

I've done a bit of research and found the following so far:

1) ASUS Vivobook 15 X515EA 15.6" Full HD Laptop (Intel i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11) : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

2) Lenovo V15 Gen 2 15.6-inch Laptop, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 11 Home : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

3) KUU G5 Laptop, 15.6 inch HD IPS Screen AMD Ryzen 7 5800U Processor up to 4.4 GHz CPU Window 11 OS 16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB SSD Full-Size Backlit Keyboard Portable Computer Notebook : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

The KUU G5 laptop ranks the highest on the CPU list, but I've never heard of that brand so I'm a little sceptical. The Lenovo one ranks the lowest but comes at a lower cost, are the others worth the extra price?

Would appreciate any advice and also any recommendations on any other laptops for similar or less price that may be better.

You won't go wrong with any of those to be honest purely in terms of specs - all of them have very capable CPUs.

I've also never heard of Kuu so I can't blame you for being sceptical.  Looking around though, it does have good reviews though so perhaps it's ok.

Reviews: https://www.geekbuying.com/item/KUU-G5-Laptop-AMD-R7-5800U-Processor-16GB-RAM-512GB-PCIE-500030.html#jbReviewsArea

As you say it does have the best spec of the three.  But if you remain unconvinced due to not knowing the brand (and with how big a purchase it is, I totally get that), I'd opt for the Asus with the i7.  It has the better CPU and twice the SSD capacity of the Lenovo.

Actually quite difficult to say, as there doesn't seem to be many benchmarks done for that i5.  There are no scores for it at all on the notebook check site.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-12500H&id=4750

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Ryzen+7+5800H&id=3907

Passmark only has a very small number of samples for that, and a fairly small sample size for the Ryzen 7 as well.

In terms of CPU, the scores we do have do seem to slightly favour the i5, although both are excellent.

Although, taking the whole thing into account, I'd probably go for the Lenovo based on the much stronger graphics card, especially if you're thinking of also playing games other than FM.

Another option is here: https://www.box.co.uk/30033308-Medion-Erazer-Deputy-P25-AMD-Ryzen-7-16G_4148627.html

£100 less, 1TB SSD and a RTX 3060 graphics card - somewhere in between the 3050 and 3070, but still extremely capable.

Hi

I will be getting a new lap top soon

Its used for work like basic excel, word and Outlook

The only game I play is FM. Is it worth paying extra for the NvIDIA graphics card? I usually buy Lenovo as I know the lay out etc and the lap top has to fold to almost flat as I use a large monitor via HDMI.

Any help or suggestions appreciated

Edit . I do like the Asus mentioned above .........but it is just an integrated Graphics card , so wondering if this is such a big deal

Based on FM22's specs, a dedicated graphics card isn't required and a lot of current iGPU's are fine for FM for medium settings or higher.  I would suggest posting any you're looking at as there is quite a wide variance between integrated graphics and some are not so good.

If the ASUS you're referring to is this one, it'll be absolutely fine: https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-Vivobook-X515EA-i7-1165G7-Windows/dp/B09TFCDCVF/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=laptop&qid=1658930249&refinements=p_n_style_browse-bin%3A182753031%2Cp_36%3A9708208031&rnid=9708204031&s=computers&sr=1-1-spons&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyVUtEVVhOVExJS0xIJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzY0NDI4TlNBTzFKQllRSkExJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAzNzE2NTc4WFRSM1lQR08yQzImd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl&th=1

Hi everyone, as many here, I am also looking for a new laptop (I am located in the European union).

The laptop will be used for daily stuff, like movies and TV shows, but also to play Football Manager and League of Legends with friends. Any recommendations around 500-600 euros? Thanks in advance, as my hardware knowledge is really limited.

I was looking at this one for 600euros: ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX506LH-HN042 - Laptop Gaming 15.6" Full HD 144Hz (Intel Core i5-10300H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GeForce GTX 1650-4GB)

As above I am looking to get a better faster lap top as mine is approaching 4 years old.......however the specs on my lap top dont look too bad ( although if I am honest I dont know a lot about processors etc) . I have attached a photo below

I am trying to compile a small shortlist but having difficulty finding out if they fold flat. Has anyone purchased any of the laptops recommended in these pages and if so do they fold flat?

I am tempted to stick with Lenovo as I know they fold flat

Hi,

currently looking into buying a new computer to run this game. Won't be used for much else, except some browsing. Currently looking at this one; https://www.asus.com/Laptops/For-Home/Vivobook/Vivobook-14-X413/techspec/

I have found a decent deal for the one with the Intel® Core™ i5-1035G1 Processor, 8GB RAM, and the graphics card is just specified as "Intel UHD Graphics".

What do you think? :) I watch games in the 3D engine but won't need it a full settings ofc.

I steer clear of recommending any with that CPU due to the low base clock speed.

What's your budget?

Alright, thank you for the quick answer.

My budget is somewhere between 4-550 pounds, that is if I can find anything useable in the range.

I have emailed them asking if it folds flat

box.co.uk is a good site.  One of my favourites to refer to due to the sheer volume of sorting options.

There will be better options than all of those.  Just a couple of questions

- what is the budget you're looking to spend as a maximum?

- Are you looking at Argos for a specific reason (ie, you have vouchers, ease of pickup etc)?

- Are you wanting to play modern games other than FM?

I do get some money off, from Argos, but not significantly so. The same with Currys (about 5% off at both). I do like the ease of pickup, but am not completely wed to the idea.

The budget is somewhere between £500 and £800ish.

FM is pretty much the only modern game I will be playing,  beyond that it will be general Internet, office admin stuff.

Quick question

would I be better off if I placed more emphasis on a Geoforce graphics card rather than  16Gb ram?

in relation to FM

In terms of purely FM and based on the specs of FM22, neither are essential.

8GB is enough and most integrated graphics of any current CPU at i5 or Ryzen 5 and above will be good enough for medium to high settings.

Very helpful thank you......I just need to get some sort of response from them about the lap top folding flat and then I can make my purchase. I may have to ring tomorrow as the email process is slow :)

Actually, I take back my earlier statement.

Looking at what is currently around at Currys and Argos, I would probably go for one of the ones you linked: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9599646?clickSR=slp:term:laptops:13:62:1

With the price it is and the spec you're getting for that price, it's a really good deal.

Hi

I have got a new lap top and I have transferred all of my Graphics packs etc to a new Sports Interactive folder on the new lap top.

I have downloaded Steam and FM22 and when I load the game it does not find my existing save or any of my graphics packs. This is despite me taking over 4 hours to copy the folder across :)

I am sure it is something simple that I have missed ...can anyone help with this please

My apologies if this is posted in wrong forum......

Did you copy them all into the correct folder?

Should be something like:

Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2022

For save games, make sure you've got the correct option for either cloud or local save selected.

For the graphics packs I think you also need to use the reload cache button or something like that.

I think this is where I went wrong . I copied all of the folders onto my desktop …….they should have been copied to my documents I assume

Now trying to transfer the files from my USB MY Passport and I am encountering issues. It estimates 9 hours but it stops after about an hour .

I have managed to get the saved game into the correct folder so I can now play , but it’s with no graphics etc

Yeah, they need to be in your Documents folder.

Yes I decided to start the process again and do completely new downloads …….it seemed easier to do this.

it all appears to be working fine now , thanks for your input.

it was a frustrating day as the lap top I purchased did not fold fiat despite being told by Lenovo that all of their laptops folded flat when in use. Anyway I have just had to adapt my set up a little :idiot:

Hi there,

I found this thread thanks to someone else linking it. I'm looking for a laptop to play FM22 on when I'm travelling (or too lazy to get out of bed) and don't really know specs that well when it comes to laptops.

I'm not looking to spend anymore than £700, I want to do light gaming (can use NVIDIA Shield or whatever It's called for anything heavier), watch some Netflix etc. It's all light stuff really.

I've come across this one on Amazon so far..

If you're looking at gaming other than FM, I'd recommend a dedicated graphics card.  This one is an excellent deal: https://www.box.co.uk/FA506IC-HN011W-ASUS-TUF-Gaming-A15-AMD-Ryzen-7-8GB-RAM-_3952772.html

Hi there - I have the new MacBook Pro 2022 M2. I'm surprised to find the 'this pc's graphics capability' is rated one star on FM22. Yet when I change the settings to 'high' the match-play/graphics seems to play perfectly fine. Can someone explain this please? I've spent ages trying to figure this out myself and can't seem to find a straight answer. Thanks.

I'd love to see how your M2 benchmarks if you have the time

I'm not really looking to play much more than FM on the laptop to be honest, I'll mostly be gaming on my PC and just using this for travelling assuming it can actually play FM without a problem.

Yep, it'll be very good for FM.

Hi all,

I’m in the market for a new laptop, solely to play FM on but wanting something that can run a lot of leagues and run the 3d engine in full detail on the highest levels.

My price limit is somewhat skewed because, whatever I buy, will be paid monthly but happy to pay up to around £30/40 a month - not sure what that would work out to overall though. I think it does limit the places I can buy from: PC world, Curry’s, Argos are probably best bets.

Thanks in advance.

There are credit options on this site - it is Klarna though and they can be a bit funny.
