Both of these will offer a bit of an uplift on CPU performance, purely for FM 16GB RAM isn't necessary so if you're happy to go with 8GB RAM, then the extra £40 is probably worthwhile.

The one I posted would be better.  This i7 is a generation older - the CPU isn't as strong and the integrated graphics capability is weaker.

Hello!

looking for a laptop for around £300 that will comfortably run fm, I do like to run the 3d engine and participate in some online games so would like the processing speed to be decent! Fm is pretty much all I will be using it for apart from streaming football games and watching YouTube! Happy to go for a little bit more if significant increase in performance and more than happy to go for a refurbished model.

thanks for your help!

Hello,

£500 budget looking for a laptop for FM23, the cheaper the better. Will literally only be used for FM.

whats the catch with this one other than being refurbished

The cheapest I can find that I'd say is worth considering is this refurb one at £350: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/deals/ideapad-3i-14-i5-8gb-256gb-fhd/

Edit: If £300 is your hard limit though, this is OK but the refurb one above is way better: https://www.box.co.uk/AVITA-LIBER-NS14A8UKV542-MB-Avita-Liber-V-14-Pro-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3355367.html

The catch is that the CPU is a 4th generation i7 which came out 9 years ago.  This is a pretty weak machine by current standards.

This one at £400 is worth a look: https://www.box.co.uk/82LM0054UK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3596990.html

Thanks still trying to get my head around all the different processors, would you say the CPU is more important than 16GB RAM then (if your trying to stick to a budget)

Thanks so much that’s super helpful!

£400 is my hard limit, but I’m looking to spend as close to £300 as possible. The above looks good unless you can recommend anything anything that is closer to £400 that offers a better value for money in terms of performance ?

That one is the one I'd go for in terms of brand new models, but seeing as your preference is spending less I'd opt for the £350 refurb I posted for overall value for money.

Info I can find does suggest this one has a very good battery life.  Very capable CPU with very good integrated graphics.

It has a decent CPU in it. Processing speeds should be good with it.

I posted in here a while ago but didn’t buy a new laptop in the end. A lot I’m finding have Intel Iris Xe, how does that compare to other graphics cards? If FM has much better graphics in the next few years how is it likely to cope? I guess the question is how does Intel Iris cope with more graphic intensive games than FM?

Yes, it will play FM.  Just don't expect it to be terribly quick.  It's quite an old CPU.

The Iris XE is fine for games which are not graphically intensive, like FM.  For more intensive titles, relying on anything other than dedicated graphics cards is not a good move.

Given we have no idea what will happen to FM's graphics over the next few years, trying to speculate is really kind of pointless.  All we can do is base it on the current game and how much the graphics have changed, and the answer to that is not much.

Hey what’s up guys, looking for a laptop to just solely run FM 23 on. Have a budget up to $1,800. Looking to run just about all the leagues with a large player database and I just watch the key highlights. Open to all suggestions and don’t mind spending money on a higher end laptop cause I plan on keeping it awhile.

Hey guys,

Been reading through the last few pages trying gather some more ideas. I'm coming from a 2012 MacBook Pro with 16gb RAM which is no longer compatible. Budget is £900, 16GB RAM, min 512GB SSD. A dedicated graphics card would be nice but from reading the thread, integrated ones seem fine to run FM 3D match engine on medium settings so I'm not overly fussed.

Weird sticking point for me is a keyboard without a numpad.

Have been looking at the below but unsure which would be best.

Hi @kevhamster Have spent a few hours looking through the last few pages of responses. From these 3 laptops you've highlighted around the £300-£500 mark, regardless of price as would be comfortable with any of the price points, which of these three would you go for in terms of overall performance in coping with purely FM with a good few leagues and medium/large database loaded / journeyman save please (and why?) ?

Two of the Laptops you have listed have a 6 core CPU and one of them has an 8 core CPU, that being the Lenovo V15 with a Ryzen 7. The increase of cores and cache memory make the Ryzen 7 a faster performing CPU than the 6 core Ryzen 5.

Anyone who can help. I bought this way back, is it still ok to Fm 23. I played FM 23 now, i think its slowly on my computer.  https://www.amazon.com/Dell-G3-3590-Laptop-Generation/dp/B07SHDFKFP

If it's the spec showing on that listing, it should be fine.

To be sure, can you provide a screenshot showing the actual specs of your machine please?

Here's some guides to show how to bring the system specs up https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/how-to-find-computer-specs-windows-10%3famp

I've currently got a Huawei Matebook 14
Processor    AMD Ryzen 5 4600H with Radeon Graphics            3.00 GHz
Installed RAM    16.0 GB (15.4 GB usable)
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Only play FM on it really but the fans kick in crazily and it does get hot quickly + no dedicated graphics card is a pain as now i want to play the likes of elden ring and control etc

Looking for something a bit better around £600/700  with a better cpu and graphics any ideas ?

I can't find any in your budget range which meet the minimum specs for Elden Ring (minimum specs include 12GB RAM, there are no gaming laptops £700 or below which have more than 8GB RAM, at least on the stores I've looked at which are Box, Currys, Argos, AO, Cyberpower and John Lewis).

The cheapest one I've found which ticks all the boxes in terms of spec is this: https://www.box.co.uk/30033307-Medion-Erazer-Deputy-P25-AMD-Ryzen-5-16G_4148700.html

Bear in mind, heat is still likely to be a factor with a gaming laptop, probably even more so than what you've currently got.

Non-specific question but is there a best time of year to get a good deal on laptops? Never sure whether Black Fridays are actually good deals or whether prices drop once the latest version of a particular chip etc come out?

Not really. There are deals to be had all year round.

Re: Black Friday. There are some great deals which pop up, but a number of them aren't any better than you get at other times.

Sorry, it seems I missed your post on Saturday.... was certainly not intentional!

image.thumb.png.8faadaa4bb23ce41cac3616d6f17269c.png

They all have 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, so it really comes down to the CPU and the i7-1280P is the winner according to https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html?

So, based on that https://www.box.co.uk/9S7-14F121-048-MSI-Summit-E14-Evo-Intel-Core-i7-16GB-RA_4110593.html would be the one to go for.

Hey All,

So the beta is out and I need a new laptop.

I want something that is super quiet as I mainly play watching tv or sat in the lounge. I play a lot of hours like this. I like the idea of a macbook pro as it has no fan and sounds like it runs it very well but I've never had a mac before so unsure on it.

What the best laptop out there that runs the quietest?

No budget for now, just whatever is the most quiet but still powerful. I know thats a bit of a unachievable dream, or is the mac the answer to my prayers.

Hi all,

Looking a new laptop to run FM23 as my laptop was painfully slow running FM22.

I have saw this laptop recommeded elsewhere but looking second opinions if possible - https://www.argos.co.uk/product/1172975

If not, what lets it down so I know what most to look for in terms of alternatives?

Thanks

Not sure about the Macbook Pro, but the Macbook Air is supposed to be quiet.

It's really hard to give guidance on this, as this isn't something the listings generally tell you.

What lets it down:

Relatively weak CPU

4GB RAM

Small SSD

This is a much better spec and is £50 cheaper: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-ideapad-3i-14-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-blue-10228900.html

Hi Guys

after a new laptop to run FM23 smoothly, budget is £600. Only other thing I will do on it is streaming.

When you mention streaming, are you streaming stuff yourself?  If so, what specifically are you streaming?

Streaming can be quite intensive to do in terms of hardware.
