I was wondering why the laptop with their own chip was that much cheaper, but you have a point. Still need more evidence of its performance and graphics. And it would be interesting to see how it could perform without running through emulation. Well the games would have to be optimised for the chip - so at the moment it runs through Rosetta 2 to emulate the x86 architecture of the intel chips. Until FM is optimised for the chip it can only be emulated. But mostly people are having a positive experience with this. The benchmark thread is pretty solid - and the Mac with the M1 chip was tested there. And we're waiting for others to join in and find out more about it, but until people benchmark it there's not much we can say other than - maybe! But I am coloured IMPRESSED by the performance in the benchmark thread! Maybe @craiigman can fill us in on how he's getting on with the new Mac? And it's scary - but the list of processors in the top to bottom of the benchmark almost identically match the list on https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmark-List.2436.0.html in order. It's uncanny! So you can take both lists as a correlation of correct information, at least I do.

However, if the 256GB storage is too stingy, then this one with 512GB would be my next suggestion: https://www.box.co.uk/1L6E9EAABU-HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-dk1005na_2958256.html. Again, better CPU than the one you linked - not quite as strong as the one above, but still an excellent choice. Hey man, Thanks for the feedback, I hugely appreciate it. I had looked at the Lenovo L340 that you've been recommending a lot, but one thing I should have mentioned is I need something I can take from meeting to meeting to meeting without anyone noticing I'm stealthily playing FM21 instead of making notes or concentrating on a tedious PowerPoint presentation. Sadly, this kind of rules out most Gaming Laptops as they tend to look like a Spaceship / Lovecraftian Horror Creature / Rave - all shiny green lights and aerodynamic laser fins without any real portability. Would the Zenbook 14 still suffice? I mean, if it's a no then that's absolutely fine. I'll 100% sacrifice my actual career for my virtual career; Dover Athletic won't get themselves promoted. Trust me.
Junaid1999
Hi all, Which laptop would you recommend for Football Manager? The Lenovo one has a better CPU, however the Acer Nitro 5 has better graphics. They are both a similar price, so I’d just like to know which one would be best for playing FM at the max settings (10 leagues, large player database and 3D). https://www.box.co.uk/81LK0039UK-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Gaming-L340-15_2934443.html https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/acer-nitro-5-an515-54-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-256-gb-ssd-10205925-pdt.html Many thanks. Trust me. I'd avoid that one specifically to be on the safe side because of the base clock speed being 1.6GHZ, which is below the recommended 1.8Ghz for FM21. Looking at the pictures of the Lenovo though, I don't see that it looks like your normal gaming laptop though - it doesn't seem to have all the usual bells and whistles like the bright lights and stuff, at least that I can tell from the images! They both have the same CPU, so they're identical in that regard. Both will play FM pretty much identically, as the GTX 1050 is ample for FM. However, an extra £30 for the more recent graphics card isn't a bad idea so out of the two I'd probably go for the one at Currys.

But the initial post is worked on with the Moderators in the background. Ive gone to Neil Brock, Edl, FrazT for their input. It is pretty much built with FM users in mind. FM is not like any other game, it is processor intensive. So we focus on the high end processors for value for money. GPU and Ram are next in no particular order. We are doing our best to serve those who dont know what to buy, and those who get caught up in the marketing side of buying, and those lost in the jargon of it all. I have this set up: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.41 GHz Installed RAM: 16,0 GB (15,9 GB usable) 2400MHz DDR4 GPU: SAPPHIRE AMD RADEON R7 370 VAPOR-X OC 4GB GDDR5 PCI-E Motherboard: Z170A TOMAHAWK (MS-7970) Recently (about 2-3 months) my PC had a meltdown. The technician said I need both a motherboard and a GPU. Fact is that it works fine with the onboard graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 530) but the quality of gaming is poor. Even FM21 says that graphic quality is low. I also play League Of Legends and some more demanding games like NBA2k series. I have a budget of around 300 euros. Any ideas for both motherboard and GPU. Do not want to change CPU as I think it is still fine. Happily waiting to hear your thoughts!

Neither Smurf or I would have recommended that one with the CPU it's got. Either of the ones Smurf listed would be miles ahead of this one.

BukyOHare
Kevhamster / Smurf, I am looking for a laptop around the £500 - £700 range, that will handle FM easily enough (obviously) but also be suitable for the kids' homework / general browsing and perhaps Franchise Hockey Manager or Out of the Park Baseball in the short term. Ideally from Currys, AO or similar as I can get some decent cashback offers from them. But generally whatever you think's best. I had thought of the following as a token offering to the conversation with my limited knowledge of these things. https://ao.com/product/x512daej911t-asus-laptop-grey-73656-251.aspx You guys do a fantastic job, thank you so much in advance. There may be others which are cheaper, but I'm on my mobile and the AO site isn't great on mobile. I looked at Currys but they seem to be struggling for stock at the moment. Better CPU and a stronger graphics card as well. The graphics card in the Acer is absolutely fine for FM that said, and the CPU is decent too. craigdrfc
Help pls tech folk... Looking to pick up a new laptop (obviously) for FM21 ... this would be main usage. Also maybe a bit of lightweight photo editing, and the standard netflix/spotify/MS Office interaction. FM tends to be 7/8 nations open with a large database and would like reasonable graphics if possible for my budget. Budget would be £650/750max if I can get away with it. Fire away with recommendations pls folks. Cheers.

joshpmilton
Hey guys, Firstly, thanks for all the hard work so far. This thread has really helped me in my search for a new laptop. I think I've narrowed it down to this HP one on Box, but but I have a slight hesitation as to whether I'd want a bit more punch on the GPU. I've also found this Lenovo (price is £100 lower on Overclockers), which whilst more than I'd originally intended does appear to hit each of the desired components. Basically, is the extra GPU worth the extra cash, or is the HP perfectly up to scratch and is the switch from the AMD to Intel worth it to achieve it. For what it's worth I mainly also play Civ XI and racing sims, which is the main factor the GPU.

For example, Project Cars 3 requires a much meatier graphics card than Assetto Corsa.

There is an element of trying to future proof myself too, but it might be the HP does that sufficiently.

It'd be £500 at the price I could get it, so I guess it's a question of longevity really. Is the extra spec going to future proof enough that I'm not needing to upgrade as soon, thus eliminating the need for an earlier upgrade later. Automobilista is very demanding looking at the system requirements, so if you're looking at a laptop it's probably going to be a sizeable chunk of cash to get ideal performance.
