Sadly my PC is going to the repair shop today because it won'tĀ  boot up.Ā  I had it made for me a few years ago for budgetary reasons so IĀ  could upgrade in bit by bit rather thanĀ having a big outlay all at once.Ā  Assuming it can be fixed it makes senseĀ to get an upgrade at the same time.

My current set up is

Processor - Intel Core i3-2130 CPU 3.4 GHz

Installed RALM 8GB

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 1060 3GB version 442.50

Earlier in this thread it was suggested my priority could be updating the CPU, possibly to an Intel Core i7-3770.Ā  Now a fewĀ  months have passed isĀ that still suggested, or is there something else I could go for?Ā  I don't have a set budget as it depends on the cost of repairs, but I'd be looking atĀ the lower hundreds of pounds.

FM runs just about okay on my current setup but can be frustratinglyĀ slow in processing with anything but a handful of leagues so speeding that is my priority.

The only other games I play are Paradox's EU and Crusader Kings (which loads so slowlyĀ I assume I'm near minimum specs), other than that the PC is only used for Word, Excel, email etc.

Thanks.

Your graphics card is still absolutely fine, assuming it isn't faulty in any way.

So, the CPU will be the main thing to upgrade - this is realistically going to mean a motherboard and RAM upgrade alongside it.

The following is a good combination, but it does really depend on your budget:

Motherboard:Ā https://www.ebuyer.com/1139022-msi-b450-tomahawk-max-ii-atx-motherboard-b450-tomahawk-max-ii?_sgm_campaign=scn_8714e1eb7e000&_sgm_source=1139022&_sgm_action=click

CPU:Ā https://www.ebuyer.com/883794-amd-ryzen-5-3600-am4-cpu-processor-with-wraith-stealth-cooler-100-100000031box

RAM:Ā https://www.ebuyer.com/1139772-klevv-bolt-x-16gb-8gb-x-2-3200mhz-powerful-enhanced-desktop-kd48gu880-32a160u

Ā

If that is too much, then this bundle deal would still be quite an upgrade on what you already have but isn't as capable as the CPU above:

It largely depends exactly which games you want to play.

For FM it'll certainly be fine.Ā  It may not be quite up to the task if you wanting to play the most demanding recent games.

That said, it is a very good price for that system.

Ā

Should be absolutely fine, seems a good price too.... if you get it, it would be good to hear what graphics preset it can handle for the 3D match graphics.Ā  Based on what I've read for those 11th gen Intel chips, should be able to handle medium at least.

I'm looking to get myself a laptop, primarily for Football Manager, but would also like some potential to play other AAA games adequately (I don't need super incredible graphics etc), and some browsing and streaming.

I'd love to be able to run a large number of leagues at a reasonable speedĀ (the dream has been able to load every available league without each day taking a painfullyĀ long time to process, but I know this may not be feasible) and have matches run on high graphical settings.Ā

I also like to download facepacks and logo's etc, not sure if this needs to be taken into account.

My budget would between Ā£1000 - Ā£1200

Hi, apologies to @kevhamsterĀ he gave me a really good suggestion for a custom built laptop that fits the above description a couple of weeks ago, but the quote has now expired and I wasn't quick enough to make my order. Could you possibly give me another suggestion that fits the bill?Ā I promise this time I won't let things expire!

Thanks, was between this and the one at ao mentioned on earlier page, about Ā£30 Difference in price between two.Ā

Hi,Ā

Ā

I'm looking at upgrading my 5 year old HP laptop but lack any real knowledge about PCs/laptop hardware.

Ā

I currently use a laptop but no longer really need the mobility element of a laptop so if it is cheaper to get a PC I will do that. I currently play FM on a monitor attached to the laptop anyway because I prefer the bigger screen for the game. I often use the laptop screen to watch Netflix or YouTube while I'm playing as well. I'm looking for a computer that is able to play FM with multiple leagues loaded at a reasonable pace, whilst simultaneously being able to watch videos/TV on the computer. Currently the game runs really slowly and occasionally freezes when I'm doing other things on the computer.Ā

My only uses for the computer will be:

  • Football Manager (with 3D matches)
  • Netflix / YouTube / Twitch etc.
  • Work on MS Office

I don't have a budget as such, I just want to pay the lowest price possible to run the game at a good speed with a good number of leagues, whilst simultaneously watching videos/streams etc. I don't know how much this sort of machine would cost, and I don't want to buy something that isn't capable of doing what I want, and I don't want to overspend on something with specs far above what I will need.

I'm open to refurbished or new, and any make, and not bothered whether it's laptop or PC, just whatever will be best value for money.

Any advice appreciated :)Ā

Hi, looking at a new laptop around the Ā£650-Ā£750 mark.Ā  Ā  Ā Only gaming will be FM (3D if poss), other uses would beĀ streaming (Netflix etc), MS Office, web.

I'm looking at these two:-

1Ā https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/acer-aspire-7-g-core-i5-9300h-8gb-512gb-ssd-15.6-inch-fhd-geforce-gtx-1650t-nh.q88ek.006/version.asp

2Ā https://ao.com/product/81lk01pruk-lenovo-ideapad-l34015irh-laptop-black-81658-251.aspx

Questions are

a) are they decent enough and if so which is best for my usage?

b) can I do better with that price range, or slightly higher?

Ā

Thank you

Both are fine - the difference is the one at Laptops Direct has more storage and a slightly stronger graphics card.Ā  However, the standard GTX 1650 in the one at AO is ample for FM,

That said, out of what is currently in stock in the major retailers, I would call this one the best deal I can find currently:Ā https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/msi-bravo-15-15-6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-rx-5500m-256-gb-ssd-10206090-pdt.html

Better CPU than the others and the graphics card is in the same ballpark as the 1650.

Has anyone tried to run FM2021 on a Surface Go?Ā

IntelĀ 4415Y, 8gb RAM, 128gb ssd.

Just trying to find a small device I could use on the train or something for a bit of FM. I have an iPad but don't want to use FM Touch or anything.

Not expecting amazing performance and I always play with 3d mode etc disabled.

It's below the base clock speed recommended by SI and the benchmarks suggest it's a very weak processor.Ā  The game will in all likelihood run, but very slowly and it's not something I'd recommend.

Well the Surface Go was a from a friend for about Ā£200, I already have my desktop at home which is perfect. I am about to move house so my commute will be a bit longer and I thought about getting something I could grab for a bit of FM on the train journey.Ā

I may play with using VNC or something from my iPad to go back to my desktop and then when I get off the train I will just shutdown my PC remotely.Ā

That may be better then just getting another device

In fairness if you're using Steam Remote Play, as long as you have a good connection both ends it works pretty well.

There won't be a huge amount out there for Ā£200 though.Ā  The cheaper portable devices just aren't really suited for gaming of any kind sadly!

I didn't even consider Steam Remote Play, that is probably a lot easier than actually using RDP to connect to my PC. Will give it a try.Ā

I do have a VPN setup to my home network, I would be using hotspot on my phone so connection may be flaky but probably worth a go. If no good then I can look at another solution. Thanks for the Steam suggestion!

PC SPECIALISTĀ Tornado R5 Gaming PC - AMD Ryzen 5, RX 5500 XT, 2 TB HDD & 256 GB SSD

If so, it does largely depend on whether you're planning on playing other games as well as FM.

For FM it's absolutely fine.Ā  If you're also planning on playing other current AAA games, the graphics card may not be quite strong enough, unless you're happy compromising on some graphics settings.

If you're looking to play Microsoft Flight Simulator, you definitely want to consider a stronger graphics card.Ā  You'll also want 16GB RAM or more.

This is effectively the same build I have on my PC, and I get around 30-40FPS (depending on the area) in MicrosoftĀ Flight Sim at 1080p with the mostly very high preset (one step below Ultra).

https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/eeWVepCG7X/

For Euro/American Truck Sim it gets a constant 60FPS pretty much everywhere with the highest settings.

Assuming you still want to do the likes of Flight Simulator, I'd look at something like this:Ā https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/msi-gf65-thin-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-rtx-3060-512-gb-ssd-10219733-pdt.html

I'd also recommend considering a cooling pad as I imagine it'd get quite warm.

Edit: If you're not interested in that, then you can look at something a fair bit cheaper.

Hi,

Current laptop is on its last legs after years of service. Want something that will last and is going to run fm with no problems. I also intend on using it for SkyGo/Netflix/Spotify but no other immediate gaming requirements. Willing to spend up to 900-1000. Are these good options? Struggling to separate them.

Also, are these a bit overkill, given I don't intend on gaming much beyond FM?

Ā

Thanks

All basically the same. Go with the cheapest.

I have a medion Erazer as one of my main laptops... it's brilliant, had no issue with it at all.. can't recommend them enough.

It was basically a case of it having a decent CPU and a good enough graphics card to play FM at max settings.

https://ao.com/product/3xs109839-3xs-desktop-black-78421-253.aspxĀ is the best overall deal I can find at the lower end of the gaming PC spectrum.Ā  Excellent CPU, again graphics card is absolutely fine for FM as well.Ā

Nice one, I've ordered this as it looks good.Ā

Out of interest how many leagues will I be able to run with this PC at a reasonable processing speed? My current laptop can now only handle 1 nation reallyĀ
