Hey,

was looking for thoughts on this:

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-15s-fq4553sa-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10229358-pdt.html#

seems really cheap but states up to 4.5ghz which from my limited understanding should give decent FM performance?

Had been looking around 500-600ish mark when I came across this, so would welcome alternatives. Laptop is for FM mainly, preferably able to play around 5 leagues or so without too much pain. Not too bothered on 3D or graphics side.

Thanks.

That's a cracking deal for £400.  You won't find better for the price and yeah, it'll be decent for FM.  The 4GB RAM isn't ideal, but will be ok for FM as long as you don't have loads of stuff open in the background.

Hi guys

I'm looking to buy a new laptop which will be used pretty much exclusively for FM. I've been trying to do some research and having now found this thread (which I think is great), I've just seen too many options and cannot decide what is best. (I'm not really into tech stuff so trying to analyse the spec on each laptop is baffling to me!)

My budget is around £500

Any solid recommendations?

(UK based)

Cheers

I'd go for this: https://www.box.co.uk/M513UA-BQ003T-ASUS-VivoBook-15-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-512_3602781.html

Hello guys, last time I was here to get a recommendation to buy a PC but could not purchase it because it went out of stock. Now, I am moving up my budget to $1000. All I want from this PC is to play FM without worrying about whether my PC can handle it or not. I want as big of data as possible and load as many players. I want it to be as authentic so, need a good PC to meet my requirements.

As you're working in dollars, not sure whether you're in the US, Canada, Australia or somewhere else.  Can you provide links to the main electronics stores in your region please and I'll take a look.

US user. The following are usually a good cross section over here:

I am from the US. I need a PC with good specs that meets the requirements. If I can get a PC between 600-700 that has good specs then it is good enough for me too.

If you're wanting to play other games as well though, I'd stick with the original $1k budget and go for this: https://www.newegg.com/hp-pavilion-tg01-gaming-entertainment/p/1VK-001E-4DPT7?quicklink=true

I want it to have no issues with FM. I want to play FM without worrying about if it is good enough to handle it or not. As far as I understand, you need something with 16GB RAM, 6 core but 12 thread processor and for CPU something like AMD Ryzen 4600H or i7-9750H.

Hi,

Sorry I am not great with Laptop specs. I look around, find something that seems ok but then get told there are better options etc.

I'm looking to play fm mainly on it's own (may have a website or two open but not always and not more than that)

I like to use player face packs, kit packs and I'm looking to run a large number of leagues. I only play matches on 2D

I would prefer to spend 350 - 500. Could spend a bit more, but for the extra outlay I'd prefer only to spend it if my requirements would need it.

Thanks in advance!

Is this good for FM and other things

HP OMEN 16-c0500na 16.1" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7, RX 6600M, 512 GB SSD (https://business.currys.co.uk/catalogue/computing/laptops/windows-laptop/hp-omen-16-c0500na-16-1-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-rx-6600m-512-gb-ssd/N621814W?from=category)

It's fine for FM.

It will also run pretty much any game you can think of, although with it being a 1440p display if you were thinking of some of the most demanding titles out there (such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Microsoft Flight Simulator) you'd probably need to turn the graphical settings down  from the maximum to max out the frame rates.

Very good for the price point though.

Hi,

First of all thanks for all the valuable answers here. This is a great community!

I decided to buy a MacBook and would like to know if you would recommend me to wait for the 2022 Macbook Air with ‘M2 chip’ or to get a M1 pro chip? I know Macbook is the expensive, but I’d have two questions basically:

1) Pro 2021 or Air 2022? (considering they will launch a new Air this year)

2) how much CPU/GPU and memory would you recommend? I’m buying one to only play FM and watch videos, play music, browse internet etc no heavy work on editing videos and all that stuff. Just for private usage, but would like a powerful Macbook to run smoothly as many leagues as possible (our course, without the need to pay for the highest configurations)

Thanks!

1) Hard to say until they launch the new models, as we don't know what the performance will be or the price at this point.

2) To my knowledge, the only things you can really alter on these are the SSD capacity and the amount of RAM.  Go for as much as you can afford, as you can't upgrade.  But 16GB will be plenty for the RAM (and with your usage to be honest, 8GB is probably enough).

What I will say though, is you will be able to get an equivalently performing Windows machine for a much lower price than you'll pay for a Macbook so do take that into consideration.

Building a new PC guys. Intel 12700k, 32 GB ram 3600mhz cl14, assuming I'd be able to run over 300k players? Assuming FM is ram intensive? Thanks in advance. ❤️

Nope, RAM isn't king here, the CPU is far more important but you've picked very well in that regard.

Purely for FM, 8GB is enough and 16GB is plenty.

In terms of the size of the game, any CPU can run any size game.  It's just the larger database you load, the slower the game will process.

New laptop delivered - FM21 loaded - and everything works as expected. But I do have a question now:

- what is a good 24" monitor for FM? I've been using one I brought home from the office 2 yrs ago, it is not the best so I have been watching FM on my laptop, but I'll need to give it back when/if I change jobs in the next while, so will be in the market for a new one. Thanks!

Oops yes of course, sorry about that, you cannot see into my mind :-)

~$250 USD and HD (1920x1080) - I took a quick look and saw these 2. I see there are 'gaming' monitors with a better refresh, but besides FM and streaming tele I wouldn't use it for anything else graphically inclined:

I'd go for the second one as it has a much better contrast ratio, so you should get a better picture on it.

I wouldn't recommend that. The CPU is terrible with a base speed below what SI recommend.

ASUS VivoBook 14,  AMD Ryzen 5 4500U, 8GB RAM, 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD

How many leagues could this one run to work on reasonable game speed? Could it work with 10 leagues on huge database and not get bogged down during processing?

As per the opening post, which the title says to read before posting:

"There is no way to know for certain how many Leagues/Divisions/Database size or how fast the game will progress. One user may be happy with the game progressing a week in 20 minutes, for others that may be too slow, so It's all subjective."

The first one is the same spec as the one I posted, and the other two have weaker CPU's.

Whilst having 4GB RAM isn't ideal, it's still meeting the requirements for FM.  You'll just need to ensure you don't have too many things running at once.

Hi Everyone,

I have been thinking of buying a laptop to play football manager and found this thread.

After reading up it seems like it's been very helpful, so I am hoping I could get some help before I buy anything.

Looking to spend up to £550 and have found the below so far:

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9533183

Preferably would like one I can pick up quickly or get delivered in a couple of days.

Would the above laptop work and does anyone know of any better options for a similar price?

Cheers!

You can definitely get better for a similar price.

I'd go for this: https://www.box.co.uk/82LN00DJUK-Lenovo-ideaPad-5-AMD-Ryzen-5-8GB-RAM-256_3746804.html

Or, if you want something you can go into a store to collect:

or

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/hp-15seq2504sa-15.6-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10226900.html

These are all mostly the same spec, although the one from Argos has a much larger SSD capacity.

It seems to fit the bill but I just learned that it comes with some limitations. RTX 3050 is limited to 35 W , also it comes with only 4 cores and 60 MHz .

Would that prevent me from fully enjoying 3D on high settings ? I don't want to compromise anything.

It seems to fit the bill but I just learned that it comes with some limitations. RTX 3050 is limited to 35 W , also it comes with only 4 cores and 60 MHz .

Would that prevent me from fully enjoying 3D on high settings ? I don't want to compromise anything.

Nope, the RTX 3050 is more than good enough to max out FM's graphics settings.
