(As a preliminary piece of advice, if you're going to start outside the Big European 5, choose a nation with 2 domestic cups, since people usually fall behind on the cups). However, there are 2 usual / easiest ways to start this challenge. A) start in China / S Africa and finish in Europe B) Start in English lower leagues (or i guess any of the Big 5 lower leagues you can get a job in, but for some reason the other 4 tend to be quite tough), shoot up the english league as soon as poss, (probably changing jobs a couple of times), do Europe then the rest of the world. Which is the best approach kind of depends how good you are. JamLUFC Posted April 30 Share Posted April 30 Season 2032/33 - Liverpool / Mexico Been a while since I played this save for a while but I haven't been able to get into anything else so thought I'd give this a go, and after winning the league with Liverpool I decided to stay for another year with the bonus of getting the Mexico job at the start of the season ahead of the 2033 Gold Cup. I had three goals at the start of this season - a) a domestic cup, b) the Club World Cup and c) the Gold Cup. Winning 2/3 would be ideal but all three would get me to 10/32 for the Challenge. The season didn't start well as I lost in the League Cup 3rd round to Man United, but we did go on to win the FA Cup getting revenge on Man United in the final 3-1. We did also reach the semi finals of the Champions League which would have been a nice bonus at this stage but fell short thanks to a defeat against PSG. In the Club World Cup it was a similar story as we got a semi final against old rivals Man United but came up short in a 2-1 defeat. The final leg of my trophy target was the Gold Cup with Mexico, which we predictably coasted to the final of and met a USA side who we had already beaten twice within the past 12 months. In typical FM fashion though in the game which mattered the most we went to a 2-2 draw and ended up losing on penalties. Only one target ticked off but it did allow me to get out of England and look for other jobs. I loaded some new leagues up as there was nothing available in the English, Spanish or German leagues, and got lucky with the Juventus job coming up and managed to make the jump to Turin for the next club for me in the attempt to reach 10 trophies 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

PukkiParty Posted May 22 Share Posted May 22 Fukushima United - 2023 So, I start my Ultimate Challenge journey in the third tier of Japan, at Fukushima United FC. Straight away there are a few very positive and notable things with this particular move. They are doing well in the league and could be promoted if we have a great second half of the season. The squad isn't amazing, but there is a bit of depth, which I think is pretty key at this level, as you can get by with a few average players. They're also pretty well off with a £1 million in the bank so hoping I can get a few coaching badges courses out of them from the very off. PukkiParty Posted May 24 Share Posted May 24 (edited) 2023 Season - Fukushima United FC - J3 League - 2nd (Promoted) I'm chuffed to say that I've got Fukushima United promoted in the first season. As I mentioned in my previous post, they were not in bad shape when I took over so knew it was possible and a storming second half of the season sealed promotion. The best players this season were Kota Mori and Yuta Nobe. Yuta Nobe was the top scorer from the right wing with 16 goals and Mori had the highest average rating this season at 7.27. Unfortunately, they're both not interested in signing new deals so it may be the last that we see of them with the Fukushima Dream Junkers. Also been given a transfer budget of £2 million + for J2 league so hoping with some good signings and the momentum of promotion we can have a strong campaign and perhaps make the play-offs! I think the furthest I ever got was winning the CL-equivalent in two different countries so here goes another attempt... Making my manager Greek was probably not the best idea, seeing as he now speaks nothing other than Greek. With the game starting in mid-2023, I applied for a few jobs in South Africa's 2nd tier as well as in the J3 league. Two clubs approached me for interviews and then both of them offered me the job - Black Leopards and Fukushima United. Darius1998 Posted June 10 Share Posted June 10 Black Leopards South African 1st Division 2023-24 A season that promised so much only to fall marginally short at the end. The league is divided into 4 periods and we topped it at the end of the first three. Unfortunately, NB La Masia went unbeaten from the end of September and eventually overtook us in the fourth and final period, taking 19 points from their last 7 games, compared to our 14. In the playoff mini-league, we easily beat Premiership side Royal AM twice but lost at Maritzburg. We still had a chance till the very end as we played Martizburg at home but put in our worst display of the season to lose 5-1 instead. In the Nedbank cup, we won at home against Hungry Lions (Preliminary round) and Orbit College (1st round) before being drawn away to Orlando Pirates. We put up a good show but ultimately fell short, losing out 3-2 on the night. I did manage to complete my National C license but with the worsening financial situation at the club, I doubt the board will send me on another course. We are also losing some of our best players as we can't afford to give them improved deals so next season might be a slog. Darius1998 Posted June 13 Share Posted June 13 (edited) Black Leopards South African 1st Division 2024-25 Perfect response to last season's disappointment. I did say we were losing some of our best players at the end of the season last time out but that didn't happen and we were able to renew a few contracts when the sponsorship money came in. With a few youngsters stepping up, we were more competitive than I expected us to be initially. For half a season, it was a tight race with Royal AM and JDR Stars before the top 2 pulled away after the mid-season break. The former went on a 7 game winning streak which was a little concerning but we stayed in touch and eventually passed them, going on to win the title with 2 games to spare. We also had a great run in the cup, winning away to Orbit College (on pens), Hungry Lions and NB La Masia before beating Limpopo rivals Polokwane City in the quarters. Maritzburg United ended that run at our place in the semis. Annoyingly, I couldn't get another coaching license in as the board were either too broke (twice) or too selfish to let me go on one (also twice) but at least it's a nice little reputation boost. PukkiParty Posted June 16 Share Posted June 16 2024 Season - Fukushima United FC - J2 League - 1st (Promoted) A superb 2024 season with Fukushima United ended in back-to-back promotions as we won the J2 League. An interesting season which required a lot of transfers in the July/August window to get over the line. We were performing under our Xg and Xp, so it was less comfortable than it should have been. However, some great signings in July really made us more clinical and able to win more consistently. This included some Indonesian players such as Marc Klok and Egy Maulana Vikri who handily didn't qualify as foreign players due to the registration rules and stepped straight into the first team. Our best player over the course of the season was Andiswa Ndawonde who scored 14 goals and got 10 assists in 36 games. I've been given a decent budget of nearly £3 million for the upcoming season, but we will be a very low-reputation team in the division. I'm hopeful that with some good signings, we can stay up comfortably. However, the Ultimate Challenge is about silverware, so I'm hoping that I can get a big job in Japan next season, which will give me a chance to win the J1 League, domestic cups and possibly the Asian Champions League. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Darius1998 Posted June 18 Share Posted June 18 Black Leopards DSTV Premiership 2025-26 After earning promotion to the top flight, my aim was to simply make the team competitive in the top flight and then look for jobs elsewhere. Turns out we managed to do way more than compete. After a slow start that even saw us go 4 games without scoring briefly, we were like a house on fire. Two late goals in our 9th game saw us stun Kaizer Chiefs 4-3 at their place and we went on to top the table in the 2nd as well as the 4th periods. The best result of the season came in early April as we travelled to Pretoria and lamped defending (and would-be) champions Mamelodi Sundowns 4-1. A stellar run of form at the end of the season almost put us in top 2 contention but those ahead of us had enough of a headstart. All in all, 4th place right after promotion still makes for an incredible season. The cups weren't our thing this season as we lost in the first rounds of both the Telkom Knockout (at Chippa United) as well as the Nedbank Cup (away to Richards Bay). More frustration on the coaching badges front as the board kept refusing despite our improving financial state, simply because they didn't want me moving on. At the third time of asking, I did get the option to threaten to quit if they didn't let me go on a course and they finally budged! Anyway, with most of the big clubs doing well, job vacancies were low until I finally saw one in April... And then in June: Sure, I could have tried building on that 4th place at Black Leopards but here, I get 3.5x the wage budget that I had over there and the squad is way better overall. Also, a few weeks after taking over at Cape Town City, the World Cup ended and a few jobs became available. I had been rejected for the Morocco and Algeria jobs right after the African Cup of Nations ended, but this time, someone was finally interested in returning my calls. Hopefully, I can start ticking off some achievements soon. Despite losing at SuperSport United on the first day of the season, we had lots of encouraging signs and eventually, ended up embroiled in a three-way title race. We went into the winter break in 1st place after 21 games but promptly lost to both the Sundowns and the Chiefs after play resumed. Kaizer Chiefs eventually fell back a little and although we still led on points, Sundowns consistently had 3-4 games in hand due to their Champions League participation. They ended up winning the continent's biggest prize and reeled off a series of wins to lead by 2 points going into the final day. We won 2-0 at NB La Masia but AmaZulu scored an 83rd minute penalty to beat our rivals 2-1 and hand us the title. The cups also provided great entertainment. We reached the semis of the Telkom Knockout but lost to Kaizer Chiefs on pens after a 2-2 draw. In the Nedbank Cup, we thumped Mamelodi Sundowns 4-1 in the semis before twice coming from behind against SuperSport United in the final. In the end, we held our nerves in the shootout to secure a domestic double. The board was nice enough to let me get two more licenses and start a course for the third one. AFCON qualifying saw us in a group with Guinea-Bissau, Liberia and Lesotho and it wasn't exactly the most convincing performance. Lesotho were easy enough but we went 2-0 down at Guinea-Bissau before winning 6-3, held off a Liberia fightback at their place to win 4-3 after being 4-0 up before a scratchy 3-1 win at home against them in our final game. Ivory Coast have won the last two tournaments and will obviously be tough opponents while South Africa could easily be a banana skin. Just the one big casualty on the eve of the tournament - our best player, Nice's Badredine Bouanani got injured and could not be called up. Brahimi and Belloumi would therefore rotate as the right-sided forward. Being in Group A, we would be kicking off earlier than most nations at least which was nice in terms of maintaining player fitness. Group stage Spoiler Tanzania 0-5 Algeria: We opened against one of the co-hosts (albeit in Uganda) and easily swept aside the worst side in the group. Boudaoui scored 2 and we were 4-0 up by half-time Algeria 2-0 South Africa: Next up was a game against the country that I'm managing in at club level. Thankfully, they didn't cause us many issues and we eased through to the Second Round. Ivory Coast 2-1 Algeria: We rotated a little against the holders with Ait-Nouri, Bennacer and Amoura all left out of the starting XI. It didn't quite pay off as despite matching them for most of the game, the Ivorians proved to be just a little too strong. Group C runners-up Cameroon await in Mombasa. Second Round (if applicable) Spoiler Algeria 3-0 Cameroon: A brilliant display against a decent team. Amoura's 15th minute strike had us in the lead but the longer it stayed 1-0, they would have fancied getting something back. Eventually, Amoura scored again before Belloumi came off the bench to add a late third. Next up - A trip to Kampala to face our neighbours Tunisia. Quarter Final (if applicable) Spoiler Algeria 3-0 Tunisia: Tunisia had won every game so far, including beating Egypt 5-3 and Guinea 3-0. We had to rotate a little due to tiredness but had enough for them on the night. Monsef Bakrar scored two, either side of an Amine Gouiri effort. Nigeria await in the semis after winning a heavyweight clash 2-0 against Senegal. Semi final (if applicable) Spoiler Algeria 3-1 Nigeria: A brilliant display of character as we put Victor Boniface's first minute strike behind us to strike thrice in the first half itself. Billal Brahimi the hero with two. In the other semi-final, Guinea came from 3-1 down to knock out holders Ivory Coast on penalties. A big night in Nairobi awaits. Third place play-off (if applicable) Spoiler Ivory Coast beat Nigeria on penalties after a 2-2 draw in Kampala. Final (if applicable) Spoiler Guinea 1-3 Algeria: Champions of Africa! Gouiri's early goal was cancelled out by Ilaix Moriba in first half stoppage time. The team reacted brilliantly as Amoura struck seconds into the second half and Ramiz Zerrouki added a late third to put the icing on the cake. Before the tournament, I really wasn't sure how we would do as we had put in some very iffy performances at times but here, we just got better and better as the competition progressed and absolutely deserved the title. A near-perfect season at club level led to the completion of a first continent. Another three way title race at the top was slimmed down to 2 late on and when Kaizer Chiefs beat us 2-0 in the penultimate game of the season, we were only top by 3 points and a 4 goal swing. A 7-0 rout of my former side Black Leopards made us champions of South Africa 2 seasons running. We won the MTN 8 on penalties against Kaizer Chiefs and beat the Sundowns 2-0 in the Nedbank Cup final. The other cup was a missed opportunity though as we lost 2-1 at CT Spurs in the quarter finals. The big prize was obviously the Champions League. We topped a group with ES Tunis, Algeria's CR Belouizdad and Nigeria's Remo Stars with 16/18 points and beat Wydad Casablanca 4-1 in the quarters after a 0-0 away draw. A 1-0 loss at Kaizer Chiefs was followed by a 4-1 home win in the next round. Coming up against the Sundowns, we went 2-0 down at home despite being the better team, then scored 3 after the 80th minute before finally giving up an even later goal. The away game was the reverse as we were under siege for most of it but held on till penalties where they finally missed after 27 spot kicks were successfully converted. Two more World Cup qualifiers in June saw us win 5-2 at Rwanda and thump Mauritius 8-0 in Algiers. Darius1998 Posted July 1 Share Posted July 1 Kashima Antlers J1 League 2028 A long trip east for my third club job. I wanted to do Asia next and as far as I remember, I have never played long enough to win a continental trophy here. Squad Can't complain about squad quality here, this should be a top 4 squad in Japan. Nice mix of experienced players and some very talented youngsters. Diarra was our best player but he wanted to leave so I'm letting him go to Mainz for €16m + 30% profit from his next sale. Lynden Edhart comes in from Bastia for €3.5m to replace him. League table (current) Kashima actually won the league last season but are down in 8th this time around with 12 to play. The top 2/3 teams are too far ahead for us to catch but we should make the CL if we can stitch together a good run of form in our last 12 games. The current CL groups have also been drawn and we will be up against Johor, Melbourne City and Thailand's Port FC. The team is also in the Emperor's Cup with a trip to Vissel Kobe to come in the 4th round and that offers us a chance to tick off another trophy. Darius1998 Posted July 7 Share Posted July 7 (edited) Kashima Antlers J1 League 2028 League table We won 5 in a row straight away to go 3rd at one point but a draw at Sagan Tosu was then followed by 3 straight defeats, dropping us to 7th with 3 to play. Fortunately, we won all 3 and had enough favourable results to sneak into 4th, guaranteeing an ACL playoff spot. The cup was what kickstarted my tenure as we won 5-2 at Vissel Kobe in the 4th round. Two more wins later, we were in the final with an ACL group stage spot on the line. Two goals before half time were enough and gives me a chance to tick off another trophy. The CL group was a breeze. We put 9 and 7 past Johor (16-2 on aggregate) and got another 6 in Melbourne. Port FC were our strongest opponents and were still in contention going into the final matchday. We went to Bangkok and won 4-0. Well, that was fast! Is the Mexican Champions Trophy the cup i need to win as well as the league and final of the Apertura or Clausura to pass Mexico? My success so far has been - Sporting - The quad. League, domestic cups and the CL (After 8 seasons). Internacional - League, Supercopa and Copa Bridgestone Libertadores Kashima Antlers - League, Fuji Xerox Super Cup and the ACL Also won the ACON with Ivory Coast. There isn't a domestic cup in Mexico. We try our luck in Italy, at Bologna, but the season, after a good start, declines into a bad path in the league and in the Champions League. Winning the Super Cup, nor qualifying for the Italian Cup semifinal, is not enough: in February we are sadly exonerated and thus no new additions to our palmares. AndreV1313 Posted August 23 Share Posted August 23 SEASON 2041/42 The 2041/42 is basically an in-between season: we don't coach any club teams due to lack of attractive offers. The only noteworthy fact is that we close after four years with the Ivory Coast, winning the African Cup of Nations in Algeria. The victory in the final against Egypt was decisive, after eliminating Burkina Faso in the semifinals, South Africa in the quarterfinals, and Senegal in the round of 16 on penalties. Darius1998 Posted August 31 Share Posted August 31 Kashima Antlers J1 League 2029 League table Been a while since an update as I have been busy and Japan has been a bit of a slog for some reason. Anyway, we were imperious in the league and never really looked like missing out. After losing at the end of April to Vissel Kobe, we didn't even lose in the league till the penultimate game against Shimizu. After getting battered at Vegalta Sendai in the League Cup (lost 4-2 away, 5-4 overall), we retained the Emperor's Cup. Edhart scored twice to take his tally to 32 goals and 12 assists in 34(21) appearances. Quite extraordinary that no European teams have offered the €8m he agreed to be sold for. The Champions League was the big story though and unfortunately, it just didn't happen for us. We comfortably blew away Shanghai Port, Ulsan Hyundai and Vissel Kobe to establish ourselves as the best team in East Asia but Al-Nassr were just a little too strong. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ruined us at home as we lost 3-1 and we didn't manage an away turnaround. At least both games were close so maybe we are not too far off. No issues so far in the 2029-30 campaign. I thought Ulsan might be a banana peel as our squad had seen a lot of turnover but we beat them 4-1 away and 4-0 at home. Champions of Asia! We easily went past Buriram Utd before beating fellow J-League side Albirex in the quarters. A nervy semi against Jeonbuk followed and we won 3-1 at home after a 1-1 away draw to set up a rematch of last year's final. In the first leg, Al-Nassr went ahead but then had their goalscorer sent off. We dominated proceedings but trailed going into injury time, only for new signing Rijkhoff to strike twice! In the second leg, we were cheered on by 40,000 at our brand new stadium. They went down to 10 early on but then took the lead against the run of play. Things again became a bit nervy but a second half penalty gave us what we deserved. And I'm off a day later. People can still do the challenge with any previous version, and obviously, not as many people doing the challenge these days. I was expecting to have to change the challenge a bit for FM25 anyway. But I guess the challenge is going to completely die for a year, and then hopefully come back refreshed for FM26 with improved international management. (People can still post on the thread and I'll still update the leaderboard / Hall of Fame as needed. Hopefully there'll be a new journeyman challenge to replace it. Maybe something based around the Pentagon, but with some new element, to reflect my personal hobbyhorse that the Pentagon is not actually difficult. I mean, most of these top challenges carry the risk of failure. Not everybody succeeds at this challenge. I've failed the Youth challenge far more times than I've succeeded. (It's possible I've only completed it once). This year I've been doing the Level 10 challenge, but the finances and a bug made the challenge itself impossible, so had to tycoon myself up in the editor, because other than the finances i was enjoying it. (Obviously at that point, I stopped posting about it). I have an idea for a new challenge, or rather an old challenge of TheEarl's. Now that this challenge will be largely dormant, it might be the time to retry it, and brand it as the replacement. Maybe the Original Football Manager Challenge. Anyway, let's hope the new game inspires new challenges. But if you've always meant to complete this challenge, now would be the time to start; on FM24. Last chance maybe. Mexico lost on penalties in the 2nd round and looked like the most appealing one, especially since neither Japan nor South Korea became available. The squad looks decent on first view with only Liverpool midfielder Emilio Orvananos missing out on the World Cup through injury. The Gold Cup takes place every two years which is nice. Squad: Spoiler League table After passing up on a bunch of jobs in Brazil, an MLS one finally became available in mid-September. Time to swap Ibaraki for Ohio. The squad does need a bit of work here and although they finished top of the Supporters' Shield in 2026 and 2027, those days seem to have long gone. I did enjoy managing in the MLS previously so hopefully, this will be similar. Despite having a bad season, we aren't that far off making the playoffs and if we get there, who knows what might happen? We're very unlikely to make the CL though so it will probably need a couple of seasons of rebuilding before we can challenge at North America's top table. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
