You've got the same players, minus 1 or 2 academy graduates so building that cohesiveness always pays off massively. Good luck for the season ahead! That's where I struggle. Tactically I'm very poor on FM. However, this year I'd really thought I'd found a tactic to work how I like the game to be played. It worked a treat early doors with Basford and it worked with another side. I'm just not sure at this level a passing based fluid system works. Well it felt fluid to me. With the 4-3-3(DM) I'm using now it's the same setup as this but it focuses on having an anchor at the spine as I don't believe a regista is needed at this level. So we now focus on getting the ball forward. Using the pace on the wings and feeding Towle. I'm toying with the idea of turning Towle into a pressing forward. Just to see if he'll hassle defenders more. I also need to learn to get better at rotation.

Nottingham Forest
Basford United 2024-25 Season Youth Intake The intake did not disappoint! Yes there aren't any absolute world class youngsters but do I really want them yet? Gradual progress is the aim of the game. We have that here. Two will immediately go into the first team squad. Nottingham Forest
Basford United Jan-May 2025 Results League Table Finances Some concern here. No new improvements yet. Need a cup run. Or a big player sale. Thoughts 7th is a cracking achievement and hopefully isn't a one off. We started the new year well and aside from the odd loss here and there we were well and truly in the mix. Floating around 4th/5th. I won my first manager of the month award for March but the dreaded curse kicked in for April as we limped over the line to finish 7th(granted we secured our spot a few games prior). Having been drawn against Southport I wasn't confident. 2-0 up though and I thought we were on our way through. Southport had other ideas though and three a goals in 21 minutes knocked us out. A shame, but in truth we're not ready to make that step up yet.
Nottingham Forest
Basford United 2024-25 Season Review A solid start was again the story of our season. At least we're consistent eh! November and December we crumbled before rallying in January, February and March. A little hickup in April but we still managed to finish 7th and qualify for the play-offs. Unfortunately Southport was a step too far and our season was ended. The FA Cup dream tie still eludes us. This season it was Dagenham & Redbridge. However, we're getting by alright. Key Players Niall Towle - He's here again! Slightly down on last season's figures but thirty-eight goals in fifty-one appearances in all comps is still not to be sniffed at. We'd be lost without him. Ryan Ashman YP0d - Has made the left wing spot his own despite not being suited to the role. Eighteen goals and nine assists in forty-seven games is a cracking return. Stefan Galinski - The experience to Morrison YP2b's youth. They formed an excellent partnership as he played fifty-two games in all comps at an average of 7.04. Paul Cooper YP1d - The original intake superstar. Has come on leaps and bounds. Had an ok season playing fifty-four games with seventeen assists Best Youth Ryan Morrison YP2b - The breakout season! Played fifty-four games in all comps with an average rating of 7.23. Was one of the reasons alongside the experienced Galinski as to why we were solid at the back for most of the season. Youth Breakout 2025-26 Season Ismael YP4a - Come through in this season's intake so hoping he'll kick on and provide us with a quality attacking outlet. Other News Now I know it's been in the game for a few seasons and it's not a massive thing. However, it's the first time I've seen it. Literally after the final league game before the play-offs we had the news article that Ryan Morrison YP2b had come out as gay. Now I'm wondering did he decide to come out after having a storming season. I'll guess we'll never know but it'd be interesting to find out if that plays a part Next Seasons Expectations Nothing has changed. Avoid the drop. Try and get to the third round proper FA Cup. Improve facilities. Simples! Again a carbon copy of last season's expectations. Despite our success this season, the board have provisionally said avoiding relegation is still the aim. I'll take it.

Nottingham Forest
Basford United Aug-Dec 2025 Results League Table Finances Thoughts A decent half of the season. Although slightly frustrating. If we were a little more consistent we'd be top. We started off with a win before failing to win any of the next five. A great run of form followed where we were playing some quality football. Chester up in the FAC4QR and I genuinely thought we'd beat them even though they were the league above. 1 up and cruising at half-time before crumbling to a 2-1 defeat. Our form from then onwards seemed to be a little hit and miss which was evident in the final game of the year. 1 up and cruising before conceding two late goals. Hootieleece
Who needs wingers? Just retrain a central midfielder or a Striker who can't shoot....seems to be an epidemic in the new FM. Along with the old problems Fullbacks and Wingbacks that can't cross, less than 6'0" Ft. Tall CB's that actually head the ball, and over 6'0" ft. Tall CB's that can't head a ball. Nottingham Forest
Basford United Jan-May 2026 Results League Table Finances Thoughts A heartbreaking way to end the season. We started off the new year with a lucky win against Buxton and we had a few fortunate wins in a largely dominating spell that saw us go ten games unbeaten before losing 3-1 at home to Spennymoor. A poor month(for a title chasing side) in March before bouncing back in April just wasn't enough as we finished three points behind Spennymoor to finish second. We comfortably dispatched Gateshead before just not showing up in the final against Guiseley.
Nottingham Forest
Basford United 2025-26 Season Review An poor start to the season saw us turn it round before turning average again at Christmas. The new year kicked off with a bang as we went on a ten game unbeaten run before losing to Spennymoor at the end of February. A poor March followed before we rallied again in April to narrowly miss out on the title. A comfortable play-off semi-final win meant a game against Guiseley which we just never properly showed up and lost 2-1. Which meant a second successive play-off exit. Key Players Niall Towle - Perfect again. Finished with 40 in 43(1). However, he got injured for 6 weeks in March when he was running at better than a goal a game. A different story if he wasn't injured. Who knows. Ryan Morrison YP2b - After his breakout season last year where he dominated. He got better this year and provides confidence at the back as he played 53 games. Garry Midgley YP3h - A name you probably wasn't expecting to see here. Neither was I. Not quite good enough to be a left winger(or fit in). He spent the season before retraining on the right. Excelled massively as he smashed 16 goals and assisted 16 times in 50 games. Best Youth Brad Howe YP3b - I am excited for where this lad can go. It's whether we can keep hold of him. Youth Breakout 2026-27 Season None Other News Ismael YP4a has been called up to the Spain u20s squad for the French Youth. He's not done anything for me yet. Next Seasons Expectations The board have changed nothing. Although they don't expect us to do anything in the FA Trophy. I'd like us to push for the play-offs again but won't be disappointed if we don't.

Nottingham Forest
Basford United Aug-Dec 2026 Results League Table Finances Financially crippled. No upgrades yet. Thoughts What a frustrating start to the season. One win in seven. I wouldn't say we played badly and we've had a little bad luck in these games. We turned it round in September with a steady October and November. December was also a good month as we sit just outside the play-offs going into the second half of the season. Based on last season you'd argue we're underperforming but I'd say we're at our level. Hopefully we can kick on in the second half and gatecrash the play-offs. Haven't got a asset to sell for big money. Thoughts A decent second half to the season but we're nowhere near where we were last season. I genuinely have no idea why we're so inconsistent. We started off the new year failing to win any of the first four games. As it happens, that's how our second half of the season went. Just picking up enough points to stay up. Three wins to end the season somewhat masks over the inconsistent and worrying form.
Nottingham Forest
Basford United 2026-27 Season Review A good season on paper but worrying signs as we're nowhere near last season or the season before. Just as I think we're getting somewhere we then decide to decide to forget how to play. Genuinely don't know where we go. Key Players Niall Towle - Not as good this season but 40 in 50 is a great return. Also bagged his 200th league goal for the club. We'd be lost without him. Ryan Morrison YP2b - 48 games at 7.21. Such a good player. Garry Midgley YP3h - An injury hit season but he still managed to chip in with nine goals and fifteen assists from 37 games. Nottingham Forest
Basford United Aug-Dec 2027 Results League Table Finances Things will get better right... Thoughts The new tactic started off a treat as we won four out of six. Then things got bad. We couldn't buy a win from the end of August until mid November which included reverting back to the 4-3-3 (DM) and being knocked out of the FA Cup. I decided for the Gloucester game to change tactic again as I went all attacking 4-3-3 with three central midfielders and three strikers. We were very open but we took our chances. Normality resumed for the end of the year as we lost the next three to end in 19th. We're 5 clear of the drop and not far off the play-offs if we can string a run together. As of yet though, that doesn't look like happening and we'll be fighting to stay in the league.

Nottingham Forest
Basford United Jan-May 2028 Results League Table Finances Thoughts Survival! But only just. We started off the new year in dreadful form and only managed to secure three wins from nineteen games. Going into the Ashton United game were 3 places ahead with four games remaining. We lost! That meant we dropped into the relegation zone for the first time ever that I recall on this save. Next up was Warrington. Not quite sure what happened but we smashed them 5-1 to drag them and Ashton back in. We nicked a late goal against Boston which meant we snuck out of the relegation zone. Going into the final game we played title chasing Halifax whilst Ashton hosted Boston with Warrington away against Nuneaton. We were out of it at half-time being 3-0 down. I thought we had a glimmer after 56 but that was ended as they scored again and again. We grabbed a second but it meant nothing. We were down. However, Boston had other ideas. They grabbed a late goal against Ashton as they could only draw 2-2 and we survived.
Nottingham Forest
Basford United 2027-28 Season Review On paper it's not a good season but we're not going anywhere fast due to our board's inability to back us and our failure to get to the FA Cup 3rd Round. We stayed up, only just but it's all that matters Key Players Niall Towle - Without him we'd be lost. 42 in 51 with 9 assists is another good return. He's not as consistent as he once was which is a concern. Ryan Morrison YP2b - 44 games this season at 7.06. Not as good as previous seasons. But without him and Towle we'd be lost. Best Youth None! Youth Breakout 2028-29 Season Kwame Nichols YP7a - The new recruit has some decent ability already. Want to chuck him in at the deep end and hope he progresses. Other News None! Hopefully we'll see a change in fortunes. Transfers We saw a number of players depart with the main two being Stefan Galinski and Wesley Wakefield YP1a. Wakefield, despite being a decent player just didn't have the right attributes to be a winger or a striker. Nottingham Forest
Basford United Jul-Dec 2028 Results League Table Finances Thoughts We started the season off with a heavy 5-1 defeat against Chorley using our new passing 4-2-1-3 formation. However, we were the better side and had the better chances. Unfortunately 3 long range efforts and some slack defending cost us. I wasn't worried though and we recorded a 6 game unbeaten run including four straight wins. That was as good as it got for the next 13 games as we failed to win any as we tried and failed to do everything. Including some late losses and draws. We reverted back to our 4-3-3 DM and soon after started to look solid and more attacking. Unfortunately we could only beat Tamworth. That leaves us sat in 20th going into the new year despite being sat 8th after 8 games.

I hope you can get that freak newgen to get the money or the goals to move you on! Whilst the frustration is real, I really don’t want any assistance from an owner. This has been my favourite save on FM ever as I’m doing incredibly well with the lack of quality. I’ve still not had any coaching badges or upgrades. I’ve not made it to the dream FAC3R tie either. Nottingham Forest
Basford United Jan-May 2029 Results League Table Finances Still no upgrades on the cards. Very concerned that we'll go into admin sooner rather than later as the current owner hasn't put a penny in. Thoughts We started a packed January with an extra time win over Darlington in the FA Trophy before losing to Gloucester. A narrow 3-2 win against relegation rivals Halesowen was followed by a loss to Guiseley. January ended on a high as we managed to pick two wins and a draw. Although it should have been three wins. Going into February I was hopeful we could build on January and get ourselves away from the drop. That never happened as we only managed to pick up four points from fifteen in the league and even went out to Chester on penalties after a replay in the FA Trophy. March was alot better as whilst we were inconsistent we managed to steal points off our relegation rivals which set us up nicely for April and May where we managed two pick up two further wins and three draws including a comfortable win against top of the table Telford. The final game of the season saw us lose to FC United of Manchester.
