ajw10
Yeah, not looking forward to an international tournament is a sign of misery It's got nothing to do with Arsenal. I've enjoyed plenty of tournaments in the past irrespective of what Arsenal were doing. I just think I'm burnt out with football due to it being on for pretty much an entire year non stop and I think the quality will be the lowest it's been for ages, which in some ways is good preparation for the next World Cup which is going to be a disaster Edited May 13, 2021 by ajw10
Bootador
I couldn't care less about international football, it's nice to have more football but we have had football non stop for 10 months already so I've already done my summer football stint

Other than that, we also had Forlan looking like the only one who knew where that ball was going to go and Germany went a great run with a number of young players who would go on to become mainstays for years (although I understand people in England didn't necessarily like that ). It was my first World Cup too so I'll always have a soft spot for that. Edited May 13, 2021 by Darius1998

Capello making them all stay in the desert miles from anywhere. Rob Green letting that goal slip through him in the opener. Rooney mouthing off down the camera against Algeria. Scraping through against Slovenia but holding the ball in the corner at 1-0 just as USA were scoring in the other game so that we threw away top spot. I think that Slovenia game was also the one where John Terry tried to head the ball away while he was lying face down on the pitch. Marius_R
2006 and were 2014 the best for me. 2010 probably the worst, I'd rate 2002 and 1998 equally good, with 2018 slightly above the two. Darius1998
I think the only reason I liked 2010 that much was because that was the first tournament me and my classmates actually followed. It was fun discussing something other than Cricket for once. Then again, 2014 was even better because by that point all of us were interested. We even made small flags of countries that we wanted to see win and would make fun of each other when the team they were supporting lost. That was especially hilarious as more than half the students were supporting Brazil.

martinji
Italia 90 my all time favourite. As well as us doing well you had Gazzas tears, Roger Milla goals and celebrations, Lothar Mattheus dominating, Beckenbauer on the sidelines, Nessun Dorma, Toto Scillachi coming from nowhere for the Italians, Rijkaard/Voller spat with Rijkaard spitting on him twice, the infamous Cameroon group hit job on Caniggia on their way to a shock win, Ireland reaching the quarter finals after drawing lots to finish ahead of the Netherlands in the groups. Plus a ton of stuff I've forgotten. Just a shame the final was *****.

Administrators Neil Brock Posted May 14, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted May 14, 2021 For me the Euros rank like this: 92 -> 96 -> 04 -> 00 -> 12 -> 16 -> 08 Euro 92 was great with Denmark, Thomas Hassler, Pearce v Boli and England being crap. Euro 96 was obviously one of the greats for England specifically, but a lot of the games were a bit 'meh', Poborsky though Euro 04 was enjoying watching Greece scumming their way to win it, Gerrard's backpass, the Ronaldo wink etc. Euro 00 I remember England v Portugal being great for about 20 minutes until it all fell to pieces. So much hope dashed so quickly. Phil Neville giving away a pen against Romania and for some reason Nigel Martyn being in goal not to save it. Golden goal in the final too. Euro 12 the goalscorers from England's first two games sum it up a bit - Lescott, Carroll, Walcott and Welbeck Euro 16 too many teams and even the delight of Wales and N.Ireland just couldn't keep me that interested, even as England faltered. Ostensibly should be much higher, just showed I'd largely lost interest in international football at the time. Euro 08 no home nations qualified and Spain were just a bit too good for everyone else.
