Alright, I checked the list and everyone either has Italian players or has filled the 3 semi-finalist quota, so I can't spoil anything.

I've been sitting on this for days and I'm absolutely distraught and beyond disgusted.

You bloody people haven't picked Gisueppe Bergomi.
One of the best defenders ever, but you picked bloody Barzagli and Bonucci with semi-finalist slots, they can't get in the same sentence as him.

I couldn’t find any Italians with a surname beginning with K anywhere :D

That's an amazing coincidence tbh, the only Italian's I saw on wiki with K's as the start of either surname or first name are Moise Kean and Kevin Lasagna, neither of which were eligible :D

How can it be a them if you got a guy named Sansom on your team?

His Christian name ... there’s 2 like that, because options were at best limited :D. I wanted a different goalkeeper but that would have taken another defender out because of the nationality rules and I was scraping the barrel for defenders as it was, so I had to use a little artistic licence ffs, it was hard enough as it was :D

That's the one I was thinking of then. He was a right back mainly though wasn't he? I picked Zambrotta purely because I'm more familiar with him.

Central defender who could also play on the left.

I'd say Ramos and his transition would be a good comparison.

At first he was the right defender in 3 man defenses, as back fours were rare in those days. And there were no fullbacks as we know them today.

Later on he was the "counterweight" to Brehme, like Zanetti or Chivu were for Maicon.

When he got older, he switched to CB.

For example Zanetti was the right-midfielder when he joined, when back fours became a thing, he moved to right back.

Was that the case?

All those old games I've seen he was always on the right.

You're right, don't know why I said left. Was discussing about how Inter needed a player on the left with my work mate, and then it got stuck in my head.

That's been the case since Roberto Carlos was sold.

Btw, I'm indisposed for the rest of the day, so don't send me messages or questions, I probably won't reply until tomorrow.
Hopefully you can keep it going without massive shambles before tomorrow morning.
Then we can decide on the knockout format and start with that on Monday.

There were full-backs in the more modern sense around in the olden days, or at least players who performed a similar role (there is an Italian LB I could name but won't for player naming reasons whose role would be pretty similar to modern audiences).

But catenaccio, and the variants there of, was a slightly odd system which operated asymetrically. The LB would operate similar to a modern full-back or a LWB while the RB would tuck inside to become a third CB most of the time, with sides playing the system often having a RW to provide width on the right while often not playing anyone in front of the LB on the left, instead using the role either to add in an extra striker or an additional midfielder. So, under traditional catenaccio, full-backs were a thing... but only one flank (usually on the left whenever I've seen a side playing catenaccio or a variant of it).

Everyone has Italian players, you can name Facchetti.

Haha, fair enough. I didn't want to annoy Gunman and have one of my players replaced with a Sergio Garcia clone or something so I have to find somewhere to put two of them. :brock:
