Struggling with Rochdale

Recommended Posts

I'll give a few pointers to try and get you out of this spiral :p

  • Change the fullbacks to Fullback(S), just to give some life to your back 4
  • Drop the short passing and WBIB, you're using a Target Forward so encourage the longer passes a touch more
  • You could even have the Pressing Forward on Attack too, TF's are a bit static so get his partner a bit more involved offensively
  • I'd probably drop the Counter Press, unless you're a top team, I think it does more harm than good

I don't ever really touch general training so I can't offer any advice there but with regards to your tactic the most obvious thing to me is that your Ti's/ Control Possession preset is the complete opposite to the roles and duties you've assigned your players. I'm not surprised you've been struggling.

Your roles and duties, to me at least, scream Pulis/ Dyche-esque direct balls, wing play and crosses. I think you need to just decide which way you want your team to play and go from there.

If it's a possession based approach then perhaps just take the roles and duties the preset offers you and watch to see what is working and what isn't. But if it's more direct football your after then again go with the wing-play preset, take the roles and duties it gives and watch and adjust.

I think if you do want to go the direct route then still think about changing up the roles and duties you've got, as Johnny already mentioned your team looks extremely static. Think about who's meant to be scoring and who's going to be supplying them with the ball, I'd also just recommend reading through the stickied posts on this forum. The stuff by Herne79 and Cleon in particular are always a massive help for me.
