Stuniverse
Staveley Miners Welfare Player outgoings Despite my concerns that our players could be poached by other football clubs, and I believe that's a very real fear, so far no Staveley Miners Welfare players have been lured away. That said, Jordan Claxton and Michael Davies have both received offers from other clubs but turned them down to stay at Inkersall Road. Three players had left the club before my appointment. I released six players. I felt a bit guilty about releasing Josh Burniston, because he came in early as a trialist, impressed us in central defence, and we signed him... but as pre-season progressed we were able to sign better players and Josh became surplus to requirements. Stuniverse
Staveley Miners Welfare Salary dilemma - what to do? So here's the thing, virtually all of my players are not being paid. They are on this contract: -- But, I have two players who are in line to be paid. Both are players I inherited... Max Rhodes is my best striker... -- And Pat Lindley is my Player / Assistant Manager, although he is unlikely to play that many games, -- Should I be worried about this? Stuniverse
Friday 12th August 2022 Captain, my captain! I've named my captains for the coming season, although it's a bit frustrating that my leaders, including my captain Brian McKean and my vice-captain McKlane Bendon aren't my best players and are unlikely to play much. As things stand right now, I doubt either will make my matchday-16 for the opening game of the season at Home against Selby Town. In pre-season, Ryan scored three goals for me from one start and three substitute appearances. Max Rhodes was out top goal scorer in pre-season with five goals from nine starts and one substitute appearances. We signed Waide Fairhurst late in pre-season and he made two starts without scoring. Stuniverse
Saturday 13th August 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Selby Town Northern Counties East League Division 1 (1) I wanted to play David Richardson alongside Charlie Rutt in central defence, but David was looking tired so I opted for Josh Bowkett. Max Rhodes and Ryan Charnley proved they could score goals in pre-season so they both start and Waide Fairhurst will have to be patient. Inkersall Road, Staveley Miners Welfare. I'm delighted to have won our opening game of the season. We had to be patient, but it was worth it for our late winner from Max Rhodes. We did think we'd taken the lead after half-an-hour but Ryan Charnley's fine strike was ruled out for offside. We defended well, throughout, although Lewis Cox wasn't overly exerted in our goal. I am thinking of going with Central Defender - Defend next time, rather than No-nonsense Centre-back though as we gave away too many yellow cards for my liking. We went Positive when Waide Fairhurst came on after 70 minutes and then reverted back to Balanced after Max scored. Terry [Damms - Owner] tells me we had an attendance of 189 today. I hope the 182 Trojans in the crowd enjoyed it. Edited December 27, 2022 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Wednesday 17th August 2022 I knew I could rely on Pat I'm delighted that my Player / Assistant Manager, Pat Lindley, has signed a new contract, removing his £15.00 appearance fee. Stuniverse
Wednesday 17th August 2022 Parkgate v Staveley Miners Welfare I did consider bringing David Richardson in at centre-back, but Josh Bowkett played that well against Selby Town last time out that he deserved to keep his place. I made one change bringing Jordan Claxton in at right-back for Ben Roberts. Jordan turned down a number of contract offers from other clubs in pre-season, and is currently considering a contract offer from Lutterworth Town. Jordan also has Ashton Athletic, Beverley Town and Newcastle University showing an interest in him. Roundwood Pavillion, Parkgate FC. We're happy with the draw, given the way the game went, but we felt we could have won it. We took the lead early in the second-half through a superb finish from Ryan Charnley. Parkgate didn't really threaten us in open play but they equalised with a superbly taken free-kick. We brought on Waide Fairhurst then and went more Positive. Unfortunately, with all our substitutes on the pitch, we lost Mason Wilson-Rhiney with what looks like ankle ligament damage, and we had to play out added on time with only ten-men. Stuniverse
Saturday 20th August 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Harrogate Railway Athletic Northern Counties East League Division 1 (3) We're at Home to a Harrogate Railway Athletic side who have one point from two games so far this season. We'll be without Mason Wilson-Rhiney for a while after he picked up an ankle injury against Parkgate last time out. I've recalled Ben Roberts at right-back in place of Jordan Claxton. I'm also giving David Richardson his first start of the season. Josh Bowkett has done well at centre-back in both games so far, but he didn't react well to me praising his performance after the Parkgate game so I'm bringing David back earlier than I planned, as I think he's the better centre-back. Stuniverse
Saturday 20th August 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Harrogate Railway Athletic Northern Counties East League Division 1 (3) Inkersall Road, Staveley Miners Welfare We're delighted with the victory over Harrogate Railway Athletic today. We didn't get off to the best of starts, conceding a headed goal in the 21st minute. We really should have defended the ball into our penalty area better. We changed to Positive after that and, within a minute, we were level when Max Rhodes set-up Ryan Charnley to equalise. I thought we were on top after that and deserved our winner on 69 minutes when Max Rhodes forced an error in Harrogate's penalty area and scored. We reverted back to Balanced and managed the game out for the three points. Hopefully we gave the 177 Trojans, in a crowd of 179, something to smile about. Stuniverse
Wednesday 24th August 2022 Horbury Town v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (4) Slazenger Sports Club, Horbury We are absolutely delighted to have come to Horbury Town, won the game, and jumped above them in the league table. Horbury started brightly and it was clear to see why they had won three on the spin to go second in the league. Our goalkeeper, Lewis Cox, had to be at his best to keep them out. We settled into the game after about 20 minutes and I thought we had the better of things after the break. Max Rhodes rattled the bar from long range. We brought Waide Fairhurst on after 62 minutes, changed to a Positive mentality, and 11 minutes later Waide gave us the lead with a sensational free-kick. We reverted back to Balanced, but still looked the most likely to score. After Max Rhodes was pushed in the area trying to get on the end of Ernest Ofusu's corner, Waide Fairhurst stepped up and bagged his second goal from the penalty spot.

We didn't have a game at the weekend so everybody is well rested. We're hoping Mason Wilson-Rhiney will be back in training within the next couple of weeks. Stuniverse
Wednesday 31st August 2022 Staveley Miners Welfare v Athersley Recreation Northern Counties East League Division 1 (5) Inkersall Road, Staveley Miners Welfare It feels like we've lost in that dressing room, not drawn. We took the lead through a superb team goal. Ben Roberts took a throw-in, Alex Wood knocked it back to him, for Ben to send the ball down the line, Alex beat a man, crossed the ball in low from the left wing where Ryan Charnley, showing great awareness, back-heeled the ball into the path of Max Rhodes, who scored hard and low into the bottom corner of the net. I thought we controlled the game after that, we created plenty of chances, but we didn't work their goalkeeper enough and didn't get enough on target. And we paid the price with four minutes left when Athersley caught us cold on the counter-attack and equalised.

In the Northern Counties East League Division 1 this season, they have won two and lost three. Mason Wilson-Rhiney is recovering well from his ankle ligament injury but he's not ready for a fitness test yet. Stuniverse
Saturday 3rd September 2022 Worsbrough Bridge Athletic v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (6) Pinto Property Stadium, Worsbrough I've got to give credit to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and their manager Luke Forgione because they gave us a very difficult game today. They were just very clinical in front of goal and we could learn a lot from that. Overall, I thought we had more possession, and created a lot more chances than Worsbrough did, but we also wasted a lot of chances. It was harsh, I thought, when we conceded just before half-time to go in a goal down at the break. During the interval, we changed to Positive, from Balanced, and told our wingers to attack more. That made a difference, but we couldn't find an equaliser so we made a couple of substitutions, went Attacking, and pushed our wingers further forward. We still couldn't score, despite creating chances, so we made another substitution and asked our central midfielders to get forward more. That made a difference and Waide Fairhurst equalised on 74 minutes and gave us the lead on 82 minutes. We then went to Cautious and made some changes to see the game out. On a counter-attack, Max Rhodes extended our lead to 3-1. And we needed that third goal because Worsbrough pulled it back to 3-2 with two minutes plus added-on time left. It was a very nervous last seven or eight minutes but we held out for the win and three very valuable points.

They did win 2-1 at Athersley Recreation at the weekend so we won't be taking them lightly. Mason Wilson-Rhiney's return to training has been pushed back a few days as we don't want to rush him back. Three changes today. Charlie Rutt returns at DC instead of Jamie Swinburn. Sam Hughes comes back into MC in place of Dan Tuck. Max Rhodes and Waide Fairhurst are our top goal scorers with four each, whereas Ryan Charnley has scored two. Waide hasn't started a game yet this season which makes his four goals even more impressive, given that Max and Ryan have started every game. I know I made a promise to Ryan about playing time, but I think it's time I gave Waide a start - he's proved he deserves it. Hopefully, if I can keep Ryan involved off the bench he won't be too unhappy. Edited December 28, 2022 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Wednesday 7th September 2022 Swallownest FC v Staveley Miners Welfare Northern Counties East League Division 1 (7) Swallownest Miners Welfare, Swallownest. Waide Fairhurst was good value for his first start of the season and gave us the lead after 26 minutes. Unfortunately, Waide then picked up an ankle injury and had to be replaced three minutes before the break. Ernest Ofusu and Max Rhodes both scored within two minutes of each other to give us a comfortable 3-0 lead by the 54th minute. Swallownest scored, what proved to be nothing more than a consolation goal, on 66 minutes. Overall, this was a very pleasing away win, marred by the injury to Waide Fairhurst. Stuniverse
Saturday 10th September 2022 Preview: Shirebrook Town (Home) Northern Counties East League Division 1 (8) Today we host our local rivals Shirebrook Town. Shirebrook are 16th in the Northern Counties East League Division 1, having drawn three and lost four so far this season. They are still looking for their first win. We've trained well and are looking forward to this local rivalry. Mason Wilson-Rhiney is back in training, and could probably give us an hour if pushed, but we won't be risking him today. Waide Fairhurst is our best striker based on goals per minutes played this season, so it's a blow to be without him with pulled knee ligaments. Ryan Charnley returns to the starting line-up in place of injured striker Waide Fairhurst. David Richardson comes in at centre-back for Josh Bowkett. 16 year-old striker Jacek Kosowski will be on the bench. I'm thrilled that we were able to deliver a comfortable 5-1 victory over our local rivals Shirebrook Town for our supporters, in front of a crowd of 176 (169 Trojans). Ryan Charnley was on fire, scoring four goals. Max Rhodes added our fifth from the penalty spot. Although we always looked comfortable, Shirebrook were level at 1-1 for 47 minutes after Edwards curled in a superb strike for them on 13 minutes. Even at 2-1, it was nervy, until we scored three goals in the last five minutes. I've just seen the Trojans supporter spokesperson, Jessica Honeyman, with a great big Cheshire cat grin on her face. I hope all the other Staveley Miners Welfare supporters are as happy. Edited December 28, 2022 by Stuniverse

I thought we were comfortable from first whistle to last. That said, being greedy, I'd have preferred more than the one goal - Sam Hughes's header from Sam Sharrock-Peplow's cross to the far post. 1-0 is a very precarious lead but, fortunately, we defended very well and kept Ollerton at bay.
