Racking up the miles

Another obstacle we face this season is that now we are in the National League, we are no longer travel protected by being in Southern Leagues.

Travelcomparison.png.1a69ce3889dfed966cd2ff23f4e0e7a7.png

Remembering that it is 336 klm / 209 miles just to get from the from the island of Guernsey to the Portsmouth Ferry Terminal.

We are going to rack up some serious travel miles in our away games this season, not to mention we still need to add in any away Cup games.

Not sure the game calculates the amount of travel into fatigue, but this would create another serious issue to be managed this season.

In the database both Jersey and Guernsey are considered to be in England and in the South East I think if I recall correctly. I may be wrong but it often means you don't travel for as long as you should - in reality you'd be traveling for a day or two for most trips wouldn't you and therefore have little to no training.

A tale of two halves as the Stags dominated the first half, but we managed to limit the damage to a single goal by the break.

In the second half, we turned the tide, and played the much better football, managing to level the score, and probably unlucky not to take the lead.

The hosts had a few late chances, but we managed to hang on to secure another point.

A massive challenge as we host the 5th place Magpies.

While this is our first League meeting, we have met twice before in the FA Trophy, with a win on penalties each.

I guess it would depend on how the team traveled.

If you went by ferry to the mainland, it takes between 3 and 12 hours, and you would then have to do that again on the way back. Then you would still need to switch to coach/train/plane, or which ever transport method to get to the mainland destination.

There are regular flights from Guernsey, mostly to London, at which point you'd still need to change planes, or transport methods to the required destination.

We could always find a sponsorship option to charter flights to a more direct location.

Both of these last two options would rattle up the transport costs pretty quickly.

While in game, it doesn't affect training, it no doubt would in reality.

AUGSchedulecomplete.png.7f3c6ef30dffa35487952675d6b3bd9e.png

We started the month with a win in our final friendly, before a tough month to start the season in the higher League.

To be fair though, if we had been offered two points at the start of the month, I would probably have jumped at it.

AUGAnalyst.png.bb1ccd0a7388a16ab263535689caf257.png

We conceded too many goals, but otherwise we are currently holding our own.

AUGTable.thumb.png.ed027bb3ca6dc89f9d317abb8e90cd11.png

Two points has us in the relegation zone, but we are still there and abouts, and not far from the play off zone either.

That was an amazing end to last season, finishing with 100 points, a league title and promotion :applause:

Dover showed that they drew too much in the run in but unlucky to come up against yourself and D&G.

Reasonable start to this season too

Thank you!

That was one of our biggest improvements, finding a way to turn the draws from previous seasons, into wins last season.

We are up against some very tough clubs this season, and it showed early that you can be very quickly punished for mistakes. This will be a season of point accumulation, learning, and hoping we do enough to stay up.

Defensive lapses lead to us being punished early, and often.

We barely seen any of the ball in the first half, and found ourselves down 0-3 late in the second.

We came to life in the final 10 minutes, and/or The Wanderers switched off a little, as two late goals made the final few minutes a bit tense, but we were unable to rescue a point.

These kids still have so much to learn.

Wycombe were in the Championship in 2020-2021, and have now been relegated three times in 8 years.

In this save, Scunthorpe were in League Two in 2021-2022, but suffered back to back relegations to the National North, spent three years there, before being promoted twice in three years, finding themselves back in League Two.

Good win and needed!

Tough league, with no team but last placed Stevenage in a GD of double figures (negative in their case).

D&G are doing ok too since also being promoted.

Fix that GA and you’d have a great crack at playoffs (being conservative), with having the best attack in the league.

As long as you have as many points as matches played or more you should be ok.

I am in a relegation fight with Preston NE in the Premier League after getting promoted too early in my save.

You definitely have a chance if you can tighten up the defense a bit.

They say 50 points is enough to survive, so just need to stay a bit over the point per game.

We are quickly learning that defensive lapses get punished pretty harshly, and our defence won us the title last season, which is strange to say when we scored 103 goals

But these are only kids, and they are still learning every day, so hopefully we can scrape together enough to survive this season, because we have some exciting kids coming up that could keeps us improving in the next few seasons.

A match that won't live long in the memory banks in terms of an attacking masterclass from either team.

But there was an important milestone reached in this match, as we kept our first ever clean sheet in the National League.

Securing an important point was a nice result as well.

I found the same in the IoM save. When we got promoted, it was a big step defensively, but we were always dangerous in attack. Once we got the defence sorted, it was a pretty quick path to promotion.

It's taken a bit longer in this save though.

In what can probably be considered an upset, we grabbed an important three points away from home against the Minstermen.

We held off their early pressure to grow into the game either side of half time, taking a 1-0 lead to the break.

The hosts piled on the pressure late in the second half, where we managed to catch them on the counter, scoring a second goal.

That became important as we gave away a clumsy penalty in injury time which was converted, but we hung on for the win.

A dominant performance, but only a narrow win, as we book our place in the next round.

An early goal gave us the lead, that we kept to the end, as both sides struggled to make an impact.

Not a great performance, but enough to send us through.

A solid performance to spring a surprise against the Dale, who were massive favourites.

We scored first, but then conceded two quick goals to be behind at the break.

A late equaliser, and to be fair, we probably were unlucky to not get a winner, but we will take the point against a play off bound team.
