long ball problem

I want to play short passes, but my players are constantly throwing long balls. It's very frustrating even though I have full tactical ability, how can I solve this?

A few things to check

- who does this the most often?

- what role do they play?

- are they 100% familiar with the role they play too? 

I've had issues with this myself but found the better quality players ie elite level won't do this so often

This. Also, players who are bad at handling pressure and have low composure/decision making could also be susceptible to this.

Low composure, decision, concentration, teamwork.

I played a lot with lower league teams, the first few games, I'll have my CBs going long lot of time, but after that, they're able to play short passes.

You can test it with a different save to see if they improve by time.
